Maxine's Cafe & Bar

Mixed thoughts on Maxine’s. Came here with a group of 5 colleagues for a team dinner. We waited quite a while for our drinks, starters and meals. The spicy margarita was tasty but seasoned rims are somewhat pointless due to the comically giant cups they serve them in. The starters were good and nice portions to share amongst a few people. I had the lobster gnocchi for my main and it was good, slightly over seasoned and a tiny portion. Probably the most pillowy gnocchi I’ve ever had. The lobster itself could have been more tender though. The atmosphere is good, cool restaurant and the staff were super nice. They gave us a free shareable dessert for the extra wait. Which was a nice unprompted gesture.

We had brunch today at Maxine’s a place I’ve been wanting to visit for a long time. The atmosphere is very French bistro with warm woods, a lovely central bar and multiple rooms and seating options. There is a bar that grounds the restaurant also provides lots of solo seating. There are high tops, standard seating and a heated patio. This place can accommodate solos, couples, foursomes and large parties. The menu is just big enough offering choices but not overwhelming. It provides options for standard breakfast and some more adventurous fare. We started with lattes which were well prepared and presented. My dining companion had the Croque Monsieur and I had the Baked eggs with meatballs. We shared a side of fries and finished with mini donuts. Everything came out hot and we both enjoyed our orders. The meatball portion size was generous to the point where I could not finish. Our server was outstanding as was the host and truly everyone we interacted with. This is a busy place and if you can I recommend a reservation. Conveniently located walking distance from English Bay. Highly recommend.

Maxine’s Cafe & Bar is such a lovely space for weddings! It’s warm, cozy, and full of character with a European-bistro vibe. The mix of quirky decor, great lighting, and of course, delicious food makes it the perfect spot for an intimate wedding. I photographed a wedding here and had such a great experience. Special shoutout to the staff, who were attentive, friendly, and made the day run smoothly. From a photography perspective, the space is a dream: tons of natural light, beautiful design, and an atmosphere that doesn’t need much decor because it’s gorgeous as is!

I was craving some fresh tuna and jammy eggs for brunch and got exactly that at Maxine’s! The albacore tuna bowl was so refreshing and perfectly portioned. The mocha was silky and made w their chocolate sauce in house wow! The French toast is my new fav dessert breakfast. They got us some mini donuts after because it was my friend’s birthday (they tasted slightly burnt but ok w the jam). The service was great, the staff were friendly, the patio was cute:)

such a cute brunch spot with solid menu items! highly rec the avocado, breakfast sandwich and the french toast. i also enjoyed their spiked slushee and maximosa. i’m excited to try their dutch baby next time however, i’d say the portions are on the smaller side compared to their prices, but still so worth it.

Such a lovely restaurant. I have been keep coming back multiple times with friends and families. The servers here are super friendly, creating a very relaxing and embracing vibe for everyone. But be mindful on how much food you order - the quantity of each course is huge! For both brunch and dinner.

Me and husband just had an amazing breakfast to celebrate our anniversary. Service was very friendly, professional and attentive. I had a His Dudeness cocktail that was insanely delicious. The food was to die for, I had the smoked salmon potato rosti which had a very generous potion of smoked salmon and the dill crème fraîche was sooo good. My husband had the pork belly hash and it was rich and hearty and again, very generous portions. We’ll definitely be coming back when we want to treat ourselves.

The food is fresh and tasty, great presentation. We ordered Salmon Eggs Benedict. Wasn’t a fan of rosti style potatoes, would rather prefer traditional roasted potatoes but everything else was delicious. French toast was tasty and not heavy or overly sweet. Oat latte and cappuccino were delicious too.

It's busy for lunch. You can call and put your name down. Street parking if you can get one but it's mainly the locals that come here. This quaint little cafe is perfect for a catch up with friends. Good menu for brunch and have GF options too.

Great experience at our first meal in Vancouver here. Service, food and outdoor patio were excellent. We tried their cappuccino and latte and their espresso martinis! All were very good! The food! Truffle cheese omelette and the short rib hash special . And of course some carby fries ! Delicious and tasty! The short rib hash !! Wow! The cheese could have been less runny in the omelette but it was nice and indulgent! Our sever was great with suggestions and the martinis foam level was top notch! The place was hustling for Sunday brunch . Loved the outdoor patio with heaters. Really great place to kick off our Vancouver foodie weekend

Made a reservation for breakfast for 10AM. Only to find out we could sit at the table for 01.15 once we got to the restaurant. No mention of this prior to making the reservation. Very poor customer service by both the lady at the check in and the manager. Being our regular place. This was disappointing. Thanks Les and Andrew

The food was great except for my Korean fried rice, it was lowkey just rice and soy sauce that wasn't cooked with it. The lady was nice and helped recommend some of the dishes. However, as we were praying for our food she wouldn't stop talking to us, idk if she just didn't notice or sm. The place was nice and the outside had heater which was great for the cold weather.

We came here for the Visa dining experience. Service was friendly but not pretentious. All the appetizers were flavourful and beautiful (great presentation), and the desserts were delicious and not too sweet! Took one star off for a couple of dishes that were way too salty that they were hard to eat. Also, my main course had a big chunk of roasted romaine lettuce that took up a big portion of the plate so it was hard to manage, and it didn't taste great tbh. Ambiance was beautiful! I would come back.

I would definitely give 4.5 stars if 0.5 is allowed! We went to this restaurant as part of the visa infinite dining for the 5 courses prix fixe menu. Their menu also includes a martini as well! The ambiance is elegant but relaxed with an old school decor. All the staff was so attentive and we were well taken care of. Aside from the first 3 courses, there were 3 choices for the entrees and 2 choices of desserts. We chose the salmon rosti and celeriac schnitzel. It was my first time having celeriac. The schnitzel pan frying was very well done and the outside of the celeriac was very crispy. My personal favorite aas the burrata with roasted beets. the colorful presentation was very appealing and the addition of pistachio was a great contrast in texture The minor downside was a couple of sauces of the night were a bit to the salty side to my preference. This included the sauce americaine for the lobster gnocchi as well as the mustard jus which came with rhe celeriac schnitzel However, the night ended with 2 great desserts, dark chocolate torte and brown butter cake. Both were very light and fluffy and the sweetness was on point! will definitely visit again to try their regular menu items.

I made a reservation for a weekend breakfast here for our anniversary and we had a delightful time. The food was incredible and the service was so friendly. They knew it was our anniversary and they gave us a hand written card plus some adorable free hot chocolate since we weren't keen on drinking that early. The french toast was unreal and I probably could have eaten it all by myself. I'd love to go back next time I'm in Vancouver.

Absolutely fantastic brunch spot at the heart of downtown. Service is very friendly and professional, ambiance makes you feel transported into a fancy Parisian cafe. Came here spontaneously with my friend with no reservation and got a latte, a hot chocolate, a sausage roll, the smoked salmon rösti, a Benedict with house back bacon, and the banana bread pudding. One of the best brunches I've had. The star here are the potatoes -- the potato rösti and the crispy potato that came with the Benedict. Eggs on the Benny were cooked perfect, sausage roll was peppery, rösti was delish, I didn't have a single bad bite. For brunch, it's also pretty reasonably priced. 5/5, no notes. Would go again. My only regret was not coming in hungrier.

Amazing first date spot, it has the ambience and food are decently priced. Saw a guy with a bouquet of flowers it was really sweet. Loved their dutch baby, it tasted like egg pancake and so much better with the cheese sauce! The texture was thick and chewy would love to try their other menus items and drinks

Absolutely phenomenal. Maybe the best fried chicken (and waffles) I've had. Drinks were fantastic and the service was top notch. I wanted to try everything on the menu. And I will be back if I'm ever back in Vancouver. We sat outside on the terrace, which was lovely and felt secluded despite being on a main street. Inside was also really nice.

Went for Sunday brunch to Maxine's, we walked-in and luckily got a table for two by the bar. They were pretty busy so I would recommend getting a reservation here for a bigger group. Their space is pretty big and the location is right by second beach. I got their chickpea falafel bowl which came with quinoa, falafel, pickled vegetables, tahini, and lettuce. It was not bad but it would have been better if the falafel was crispier. It was a bit dry, more sauce would have been better. My friend got their benedict and quite liked it, they were very generous with the hollandaise sauce. I will say, considering how crowded the restaurant was and that we were seated on the bar, it was not too loud. My friend and I were able to have a good conversation and the seating was not uncomfortable.

Our weekend excursion to Vancouver literally started off at Maxine's. It was about 2 blocks away from where we were staying and we needed some food before checking in. Our server was very knowledgeable and personality plus, helping to make this an enjoyable experience. It was happy hour, so ordered 3 appetizers to share, along with some needed cocktails due to our stress of the trip. Shout out to the chef for the egg plant parmigiana, so delicious. And I'm still thinking about the rosemary fig martinis I enjoyed so much. Maxine's is added to our itinerary for our summer visit later this year and we'll definitely be planning to dress a bit nicer for our next visit, as we felt a bit under dressed in our travel clothes

One of the most popular brunch spots in Vancouver. You definitely get the French inspiration in the decor and in the food. The Truffle omelette and the "his dudeness" were so good. I didn't order the croque madame but it looked amazing and I want to get it next time. The only underwhelming thing was the side of bacon we got. It was on the pricier side, a smaller portion, and tasted like it came from the microwave. Overall, a great experience and the staff is super attentive and friendly!

MAKE RESERVATIONS, EVEN FOR MORNING! Incredible ambiance and service, a delightful Parisian cafe and bar in the heart of Vancouver! Stop here first!

Here I recommend brunch! The food was delicious!l and filling. Oysters were fresh and the food came out hot! The servers were friendly and made great conversation. Also the brunch drinks and cocktails were fantastic. I ended up getting two of whatever I got. The vibe is very lively yet cozy!

In the running for best breakfast ever. My girlfriend and I came here twice on our one week stay in Vancouver and by God man if we found it on the first day we may have come here even more. Big Bacon Sandwich - delicious thick cut bacon accompanied with a potato rosti (think of a hashbrown but with all the taste and no glubs of oil). Comes with some arugula and egg done to your likening. Dungeness Crab on Eggs Benedict - I mean c'mon. Soft delicious crab meat with no shells you have to deal with underneath the most scrumptious eggs benny. This dish is topped off with potato rosti, I am glad you cannot find these in the states easily or I would be eating this fried starch often. The girlfriend went with the Salmon Rosti, and the salmon was sweet tasting and paired heavenly with the hollandaise sauce. I got one drink here and it was a layered concoction called, King Sour of New York (Luxardo Ameretto, Ardbeg Wee Beastie 5 yr, tawny port, lemon, saline, Cabernet Sauvignon float). It was spectacular and part of their line up for holiday festive drinks, I do not believe they have it year-round, but who knows if the bartender likes you, perhaps he or she will whip it up for you. The general manager also runs OEB which is rated as one of the top brunch spots in the city. As always people SYOY!!!

Maxine is a really nice brunch spot in downtown vancouver. Their service is great and has a very cute french cafe kinda ambiance. Their service banana foster french toast is really great

I stopped by for a late dinner and a cocktail. The restaurant and bar are modern and stylish with subdued lighting and had a fairly good vibe. It was surprising that their food and drinks options were so limited. The Amaretto was the inferior Luxardo rather than Di Saronna. I ordered an Espresso Martini and what was delivered was a Gimlet. Not a good start. I was fairly confident that I would find something similar to a Chicken Alfredo Pasta, but had to opt for a Shrimp Pasta, which was oddly priced per shrimp piece. It was a small dish that was average in taste. Vancouver is often expensive, but I didn't feel that the prices at Maxine's matched the average food and substandard service.

Got really lucky and was able to walk in on a Sunday morning around 10:30am with no wait for a party of 2! Sat at the counter which was actually nice for people watching. I ordered the SMOKED BRISKET CROQUE MADAME: house smoked beef brisket, Gruyère cheese Mornay, sourdough, sunny side egg, cornichon, greens I'd give it a 7/10, the brisket was more like ham texture/shape which I wasn't expecting, but it was good! I would just want to keep trying things on the menu upon returning. My friend got the jalapeño chicken biscuit which was good and spicier than you'd think - but that spice paired well with the assortment of dips they provide. The inside is SO cute. Definitely a good spot for brunch or coffee if you can get a spot.

Food and drinks were yummy but the portions are a bit small for the price. We went for dinner and between 4 people shared 4-5 dishes. I would recommend more. My favourite was the Cappellacci pasta. The restaurant is cute and spacious and service was great!

Great ambience, loved the outdoor seating during the summer. Been here twice but my most recent was for dinner, it was a nice day so we sat outside on the patio. Got the muscles frites, clam pasta, fried chicken and kale caesar. The portion was not small so it was nice to be able to have little share plates to try everything. Servers were really kind and made good reccomendations, especially for drinks. For dessert we got the dulce de leche donuts and it was divine

First time in Vancouver & needed dinner. Yelp said it was close to hotel. We walked. Kale salad was very good & shareable. Got the eggplant parm, it was a let down. Sauce had no taste. I liked that it was baked though, rather than fried. It says it's shareable in menu, but in actuality a really small portion, only enough for 1. But it was not good. Got mini donuts for dessert. They were warm & cinnamon dusted. Mascarpone was nice with donut. I would not eat here again.

Who thought you could elevated Eggs Benedict? I'm impressed especially as they have a lot of competition in the West End especially with yolks which specializes in them just down the street I love coming here in the summer on a weekend. Great food great atmosphere great service.

Yum! What a cozy brunch spot in downtown Vancouver! Even though it was chilly out, the patio was super warm and toasty. I tried out the chickpea falafel bowl and it was super tasty! Lots of fresh veggies and bright flavors throughout the whole bowl. The falafels were a little toasty for my liking so some more sauce would have been better but thats just my personal preference. Service was amazing and would highly recommend

We had a friend in town & decided to take her out for breakfast. We were there early at about 9.20am. Greeted by the server & brought us to our table. Decor was nice & modern, service was good, we ordered a platter to share, most of their bacon were made by them. The platter had different kind of sausage, bacon that was explained by the service, even had baked bone marrow. We also added fried chicken. All the dishes were very good, we enjoyed the food & even had leftovers, their drip coffee is from SaltSpring which was excellent. Our first time there, thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We went to Maxine's for the first time and we were happy with our experience. The service was very good and the restaurant was nice. The restrooms were clean. The food was quite good and the portions were large. We started with coffee and they made sure that we were always topped up. My husband had the Bananas Foster French Toast with a side of breakfast sausage. They served us with sides of homemade jam (very tasty), ketchup and hot sauce. I had the Fried Chicken N Biscuits with an extra egg. The eggs were perfectly poached. The chicken was a bit overcooked and lacked seasoning. I could barely eat half of this huge portion. As it was my birthday, our sweet server surprised us with shots of their Shaft Slushee. Wow!! I will be back for this flavor delight! The only downside for this delicious cafe is the lack of street parking. On a side note, the restaurant was packed on a Wednesday morning. I recommend making a reservation and perhaps sitting inside as the patio was fairly loud and it was a bit difficult to hear our server. Overall, Maxine's is a winner!!

Nice happy hour. The dudeness was my favorite cocktail. It's like a spiked dalgona coffee. Husband got couple IPAs. Fries for 5 bucks. Oysters were market price.

What a great find in Vancouver. It was a lovely restaurant. We sat outside which had heating, which was nice as the evening got cooler. Food was excellent and service was attentive and friendly. We came for dinner and had burrata (a little unique), tuna and a salmon dish. Everything was delicious.

The vibes and the taste are immaculate! A chic place to take friends and family. Everything on the menu is good!

I cannot stop thinking about this place!! First, the ambiance. Oh man. It's just so beautiful inside! I hope other yelpers' pix really do this place justice. The wait staff are high energy and positive and really make the restaurant, especially for how busy it is! I sat at the bar, and the bartenders were so fun, funny, and personable. I didn't get their names, but I'd totally shout all of them out if I could. I was there for a solo brunch date, and it was just fine. Got their version of a shakshuka, and a Caesar, all d both were fantastic. It was so hard to choose what to order, and I'm a little jealous of the dishes I didn't order also. I will totally come back if I'm back in Vancouver!

After getting their ads a bunch of times (guess IG knows I'm weak for brunch and French toast) I decided to visit Maxine with a few friends. Vibes are chic European bistro inspired, while still being cozy and casual. Compared to other brunch places, there's ample places between tables with sofa and heated patio areas. Quite attentive service as well. Most importantly, I really appreciate the fact that they allow you to make reservation. Banana Foster French Toast ($21) 8/10 Look, if there's a french toast in the menu, 9/10 I will order it. Maxine's take involves tons of caramel, whipped mascarpone, bananas, and pecans. Love how soaked the brioche was and the caramel and banana flavour combination. Everything about the dish screams decadent sweet brunch and I'm here for it. It got a bit much after a while but there's no denying it's one of the best french toast in Vancouver. Fried Chicken n Biscuits ($23) 7.5/10 The white gravy and eggs added a much needed moisture to the dish without being too heavy while jalapeno helps cut through the richness of the dish Smoked Brisket Croque Madame ($26) 5/10 Definitely the most filling out of everything we got. Sourdough was overfilling with the brisket and gruyere mornay. That said, friend wasn't a fan of how heavy the cheese is and I have to agree with him. Salmon Benedict ($23), The West End ($21) & Maxine Burger ($23) Didn't try but got good feedbacks from friends who ordered these.

We came here since it is a popular brunch place in vancouver and it was so packed when we arrived. Luckily, we got seated right away near the window with a nice view outside. I got the salmon benedict and it was actually pretty flavorful. It came with a nice salad and hash browns on the side. However, one thing that bugged me was that the server asked me if i wanted avocado and caviar with my benedict, which I assumed was optional, but did not tell me whether they were extra charge or not. I ended up getting charge for those two and my total came out to be more than $30, which I was not super happy about. But the meal was delicious, but Im not sure whether i will return.

Had drinks and snacks at the bar, bartender very friendly and atmosphere French bistro ish. Nice experience, would return for dinner

What a great breakfast spot! Nice placemusic was perfect! The food was delicious! I had the baked egg with a red sauce and the light/airy donuts...very good! The breakfast drinks were good. There are coffee selections that you can add "shots" to Service was also great!

Delicious Dutch Baby for brunch. We had excellent service on their outside patio. The restaurant is dog friendly, so we were able to sit outside with our Boston Terrier and have a great relaxing family meal.

Came here on a Saturday morning since they only do reservations until 9:45am. I noticed around 10am they started filling up and people were lining up outside the restaurant. They have an inside, an enclosed heated patio and then the front patio which is not enclosed. The food was quite good. I found the salmon eggs Benny a bit on the saltier side but it might have just been the hash browns. The salmon rosti had nice flavours and textures but I wish they offered some salad to accompany the dish.

I actually really liked this place with one exception, which I will mention to end with. Walking distance to us....Awesome. Environment Unique to Vancouver....Awesome. Food Great.....Awesome. Service Warm & Friendly....Awesome. Enough of Awesome....here are some details: I loved the space and the environment. Why? The floor plan was great...you never felt like you were crowded and the amount of windows created a bright atmosphere even on a grey rainy day. The walls, painting, tables and chairs alongside the background music throughout blanketed this great little eatery as a classy, chic and cozy place to just chill, have drink and catch up with whoever you haven't called in a while, or that someone you just can't get enough of. The French Toast: Everything a French Toast should be, but sadly isn't in a lot of other places. Maxine's should give lessons. Just try it. Trust me. Salmon Benny: The Salmon was fresh, the english muffin beautifully toasted with a brush-butter finish and golden orange yolk perfectly poached medium as I like it. The potato rosti was seasoned and cooked with butter and finished crisp, as you bite through the crisp and into the flakey buttery grated potato melts on your tongue. The one and only reason it didn't receive a full 5 is because of the greens that accompanied my Salmon Benny. The greens were rotten (see pic.) I'm usually hard on both kitchen and service staff, and this is because I consider service to be an art form. Preparation of food, interacting with customers, presentation and delivery of the Chef's creation is an art that requires skill. In this case, due to the high skills demonstrated through the rest of our experience, I consider the rotten greens issue an honest oversight and most likely an isolated case. So yeah, I think I'd like to be back here and try their dinner service.

Came here for brunch with my close friend. I had the best breakfast sandwich in a really long time. Wasn't a big fan of there version of a mimosa though. And unfortunately my friend didn't like her food which was traditionally breakfast. The manager was super nice, helpful and checked in after our meal. I thought that was a great touch.

Just arrived in Vancouver on a red eye. Rideshare to temp home to drop the bags then it's time to eat! Excellent brunch spot. Eater Vancouver got this right. Casual, warm, European cafe ambiance that turns out large portions of delish dishes. Straight to it, the smoked salmon rossti is stunning. Fellow statesmen, think of this as a crispy hash brown topped with a generous amount of outstanding, rich Canadian cold smoked salmon, soft poached egg, rich fresh dill cream cheese, just the right amount of lemony, buttery hollandaise and sprinkled with pickled shallot and capers for zesty acidity. Rich but balanced. You can't stop eating. Equally good, the savory Dutch Baby. Airy with just the right amount of residual moisture within and light crispness from the pan. It is baked with shaved ham them topped with a fried egg. Pour on the monray sauce ( a basic béchamel with loads of cheese and white wine) and again, another hit. What to drink? Well if you are visiting the country or province, a good selection of well priced wines from BC including a light rose that paired well with the food. Not wanting to experiment? A well chosen selection of well priced old world wines are also on offer. Service is incredibly warm and friendly. A great start to what will be a short but profitable visit to the beautiful city.

Lovely place for brunch, lunch, & dinner just a few blocks up from the Burrard Bridge. I've only been here for brunch, but thoroughly enjoythe options I've tried. The restaurant itself has a great ambiance, with lots of natural lighting and a clean aesthetic. Very easy to pop into for a casual meal during the day or a slightly elevated experience in the evening.

Today we have brunch in Maxines Cafe. We want to order everything on the menu but at the end we ordered all the items on the festival brunch and dutch baby on the regular menu. We ordered foie gras scramble eggs on toast, black truffle scramble eggs on toast, spot prawn egg benny. I believed the only one we can find in Toronto is the black truffle scramble egg. All the other items are special to us! Everything tastes good, but portion is on the smaller side compare to Toronto. Definitely a lovely brunch spot, parking is not easy though.

/5 for Happy Hour - came on a Friday night for happy hour - we ordered the espresso martini, his dudeness, steak tartare, tuna crudo, fried chicken and chicken liver parfait. Both the drinks were both a major disappointment. The espresso martini was better than the dudeness. It has a lot of coffee flavour in it but lacked smoothness. The dudeness tasted like watered down Kahlua. The steak tartare had way to much parmesan cheese on it. It makes the flavour of the beef completely. The fried chicken was the highlight of the meal. It was super crispy and the honey butter flavour was a nice touch. The house pickles also went really well with everything. The tuna crudo - couldn't taste any smokiness, there was a lot of melon. Would not order this again. Chicken liver parfait - tasted over-whipped almost like the consistency of whipping cream but with the flavour of chicken liver. Very light. It went well with the sourdough. I would rank this higher than the tuna crudo and the steak tartare but not as good as the fried chicken. Overall: happy hour was pretty disappointment. Most of the flavours didn't hit the mark. I would stick to their brunch. Also if you don't like restaurants with machines that prompt you with a 18% tip as their first option, you should probably avoid this place.

I would consider Maxine one of the best French restaurant in Vancouver. The best thing about Maxine is that it's not trying to be pretentious. Just delicious food and good cocktails. Getting a table was easy as they have online reservations available. We started our meal with cocktails. I ordered the His Dudeness, a much refined version of a Brown Cow with whipped Korean coffee cream (dalgona), Absolut, Kahlua, oat milk and coffee. It was almost like a creamy dessert. As for appetizers, we shared the Tuna Crudo with grapefruit chili emulsion, jalapeno and olives; and then the Crispy Chicken that comes with tabasco honey butter and pickles. The tuna was so light and citrusy, while the chicken was crispy and sweet. For entree we shared the Moules Frites with soffritto, fennel and cider sauce. The mussels were cooked perfectly and who wouldn't like fries!

The wait staff was amazing. I order the salmon rosti which was so good and filling. I ordered a hot chocolate and the mimosa spritzer and enjoyed both. The restaurant was full of people with friends and family. It's airy and feels welcoming. Will go back to try a different dish!

Came by for brunch for four people. Got seated promptly at the booth. I ordered the French omelette this time and opted for the side salad. It was tasty and light - not too heavy.

I was in town and heard stellar reviews about this place so I wanted to check it out. First off, ambiance is very cute - there are multiple sections in the restaurant that had different vibes. It overall gave airy (because of the "patio" seating) French cafe. Now onto the food. We ordered the brisket croque madame, smoked salmon rosti, and dutch baby, with my personal taste preference tanked in that order. Brisket croque madame was really decadent, and the smokiness of the brisket paired with the cheese sauce was a good combo. Side salad was tangy and cut the heaviness of the croque madame, so I thought it was a good pairing! Smoked salmon rosti was good - airy and fresh with the crème fraiche, herbs, and green sauce. My one qualm was the hash brown-like entity it was on was not the best pairing in my opinion, especially since it went soft and was no longer crispy. Dutch baby was pretty disappointing honestly - texture was not as good as other ones I've had and the flavor was quite plain. Given that it was most reviewed on Yelp, it disappointed me, but perhaps my expectations were set too high. Service was pretty slow - think we waited 30-40 min for our food to come out, but they did all come out together.

Oh Maxines! Absolutely love this place. Fun fact -they're the sister of Tableau and one of my other faves, Homer St Cafe. This spot is right near the burrard bridge in the west-end and a beautiful little cafe. It's a must if you're visiting. I've come here twice now. The first time was last summer, around my birthday. We sat inside in the back area, it was giving me Disneyland vibes. I got the lavender fizz lemonade which was very refreshing. It was so hard to decide what dish i wanted, but i went for the dutch baby (the sweet option). It w a s so delicious!! Came with pears, syrup and some whipped chanttily. (i butchered that). My friend got the smoked salmon rosti and he let me have a bite, i knew i'd have to get it next time. I came back this weekend during the May long weekend. My friend and i decided to come early to avoid any lines as it's usually very busy (we shot for opening 9am, but got there around 9:30). I'm always a fan of sitting on the patio, so they let us sit in the front patio. Beautiful white marble tables and Parisian cafe inspired chairs. This time, i just got the dish. Ordered the Smoked Salmon Rosti and man was it delish! I couldn't even finish it, it was so filling. Ingredients included poached egg, hollandaise, capers, light greenery, smoked salmon and the best part -the whipped dill cream. SO good. My friend ordered the bacon benny and also loved it. I love their hash brown patties. Service was wonderful, they came by several times, asking how we were doing, filling up our waters and asking how the food tasted. That's what i'm talking about! We also noticed the manager/GM was chatting with people on the patio. We flagged him down just to chat him up and give compliments to both the chef and the restaurant as a whole. He was absolutely wonderful, sweet and genuine. Ambiance: 10/10 Food: 9.5/10 Service:9.5/10 Price: $$$
