Northeast Minneapolis’ Best Cheap Eats | Eater Twin Cities

"Maya doesn’t disappoint when it comes to freshly-made street tacos, tamales, burritos and tortas. Fair warning the house salsa that bares Maya’s namesake basically requires a horchata on the side to keep the heat at bay." - Eater Staff

Find the best restaurants on Central Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis | Eater Twin Cities

"With fun decor that harkens to a warm night dining outdoors – but indoors – Maya is a popular casual lunch and dinner spot where each meal is highly customizable and made-to-order. Top that with a large salsa bar, and the flavor combos may just be endless. As such, it’s the flavors at Maya that really shine, from house made corn tortillas to the chicken tinga to the well-seasoned barbacoa." - Eater Staff

I didn't expect much from a food court Mexican restaurant, but was pleasantly surprised by Maya Cuisine. I ordered a Barbacoa Burrito. One of them cooked the beef on the spot, while the other got my burrito started. There is a big selection of options! In addition to the usual Chipotle stuff, they have leaf lettuce, jalapenos, sliced radishes, and more. For $9 I got a huge burrito, and the hot sauce was tasty too. My friend got the nachos. On the down side, there is that Food Court ambiance, but that's not Maya Cuisine's fault.

The quality and flavor are so good! I hate that it’s in the mall, but definitely worth popping in just to grab food! Staff are kind and quick!

I've passed this place so many times, but today we stopped. OMG!!!! They prepared our food fresh in front of us, and it was amazing. The prices are reasonable and the food was delicious. Highly recommended, and we will be back!!

Ordered via DoorDash for lunch. Quesabirria, side of “consome”, rice and 2 sauces. Customer Service did a great job with presentation, best flavorful meal I had all week! Great spice level, good amount of food for the price (considering high food cost currently) as well. Definitely recommend.

These awesome cooks put together the most robust flavors- i savor everything they serve - and they serve it up fresh & fast with several beverage options-- on a side note- they show their values & ethics when i forgot my credit card and 5 minutes later they tracked me down - i had left( to go / in the Mall) and they returned it to me- amazing

I’ve been coming to Maya Cuisine at Maplewood Mall for a long time and always loved their food—especially the steak tacos and how they used to make the birria tacos. Since I stopped eating beef, I’ve asked a couple times if they could make the birria tacos the same way but with chicken instead. Nothing complicated—just the same ingredients (cheese, onion, cilantro) but with chicken. In the past, it’s been done without issue. However, during my recent visit on Wednesday, I had a very disappointing experience. The woman taking my order sighed, rolled her eyes, and acted visibly annoyed when I asked if they could substitute chicken. I asked if there was a problem, and she just said no, but kept making noises and giving attitude. She eventually called someone named Diego, but at that point, I had already decided I wasn’t comfortable having her prepare my food and canceled the order. It was really upsetting because I go out of my way just to come to this location. I’ve always enjoyed the food, but I won’t continue to support a business where customers are treated with disrespect. There’s no reason to make someone feel like an inconvenience for asking a simple, polite request.

We love to come here, the tamales are delicious, the huarache is amazing, the horchata is spectacular.

Google
The food was absolutely disgusting and flavorless. There was also burnt bits of steak in my tacos. I'm not sure if tamales are supposed to be soggy or not but it was absolutely disgusting like baby food. I wouldn't recommend this place. I also asked for a Coca-Cola but wasn't given one... would've helped wash down the dry hard pieces of rice.

Yelp
Love MAYA Cuisine! I am so stoked to have found this at a Food Court of all places. Authentic Mexican food, fresh and very flavorful. It's the only other location other than their home location on Central Ave in Minneapolis.

Yelp
It's a bit shocking, but this mall food court stall is currently my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Saint Paul area. Consistently great cooking, good technique, very fresh ingredients. I have observed them preparing lengua and cabeza on the chopping block from cryovac cuts instead of having a bunch of crap frozen in plastic wrap ready to warm up and go. Once I was there with my wife and they delayed making her simpler dish, and when asked about it it was to have everything ready and hot at the same time in our order. You know, like they would do at a restaurant. Great salsas. Best value: burrito (no surprise here). Have had different meat versions of the burrito, street tacos, torta, birria, quesadilla, probably some others, plus elotes and chips/guac. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the torta, but it turns out I just don't like tortas, not their fault. There's a Maya in Minneapolis and there used to be one in the Rosedale Mall that got closed when the mall decided to gut and refurbish the wing they were in. That place was pretty good as well but seemed to struggle, and I wonder if they wound up picking the best staff from that restaurant and the taqueria here. This food court has a number of surprises in it: Maya, Blueprint Burgers, Taste of Saigon, Charlie's, and Twin Cities Crepes & Waffles (not in the food court but in the mall) are all good places, but Maya is by far the best and most consistent, and I go out of my way just to eat there. I'm always a little angry when I go here and the longest line is for Panda Express.

Yelp
The guy used a spatula to mix raw chicken on the grill then directly after, use the same spatula to grab my cooked steak with it to put on my burrito. I immediately stopped him and ended up not getting anything to eat from there. This is how you get sick! Please re-train your cooks.

Yelp
My favorite quick authentic Mexican food! Service is quick and ambiance is laid back since it's in the mall. My favorites are Barbacoa gordita, and the maya plate that comes with 3 tacos, and a side of rice and beans. Delicious salsas too.
