Yelp
Maya on Main Street in Broken Arrow offers a lovely dining experience from an aesthetic standpoint. The restaurant is clean, well-maintained, and has a very nice interior. The staff were also excellent; the wait staff were consistently friendly and welcoming throughout my visit.
I particularly enjoyed the appetizers: the thin chips were fantastic (easily my favorite part of the meal!), and the accompanying salsa was flavorful with a slight sweet note.
However, the main dish I ordered, the Cancun Lunch, was disappointing. The menu describes this as two cheese enchiladas with two eggs on top, served with your choice of sauce, rice, and beans.
First, I was not asked for my preference on the egg style or the sauce choice. The eggs arrived over hard, which meant there was no yummy, runny yolk--a crucial element for this type of dish--to enhance the flavor and texture.
Second, the "cheese enchiladas" were not traditional. They were made with flour tortillas containing white cheese and were covered in queso blanco, rather than the corn tortillas and traditional sauce typically expected for a cheese enchilada. Finally, I found that the entire plate, including the sides, was overly salted, which detracted significantly from the overall taste.
While I was disappointed with the preparation of the Cancun Lunch, the quality of the service and the clean environment suggests great potential. I will definitely return but will choose a different entrée from the menu next time.
