Chaya Japanese Cuisine - Review - Squirrel Hill - Pittsburgh - The Infatuation
"If you’re going to eat sushi while you’re in Pittsburgh, you should be eating it at Chaya. This place serves beautifully assembled nigiri and rolls in a small space that feels a little bit like a bunker, but one we’d be fine getting stuck in for a few days. You’ll find other classics on the menu like udon and tempura, as well as harder-to-find specialties like tako-su (marinated octopus) and hotaruika (raw baby squid). And, if you want a casual way to try a wide range of dishes, you can also call at least two days ahead for a kaiseki reservation." - Madeline Quigley
Came here once on a trip 2 years ago and could not stop thinking about it. Finally got another chance to return, and wow was I not disappointed. Food was amazing, very good pricing, and wonderful service + a nice cosy atmosphere.

Food and service was good. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Highly recommend the takoyaki. I ended up picking the maki combo B since it had 3 rolls that I tend to order often. The prices to portions are hit and miss compared to other places in the area. Dining room is small so it can get crowded when busy. It was clean and the waitress was very nice. No parking lot but there is paid street parking.

This sushi restaurant is a must-try! The fish is incredibly fresh, and the sushi is beautifully presented and delicious. The service is efficient, and the wait times are minimal. I've had consistently great experiences here – highly recommend!

The people running the restaurant were very nice! Inside however had a fishy smell which made me nauseous the whole dinner. The sushi was decent, didn’t taste too fresh and kinda mushy. There is a child who roams the restaurant which would normally be perfectly fine, but she was approaching everyone eating and even grabbed a piece of my meal off my plate. Overall I feel bad saying I will not be coming back.

It is a successful Asian restaurant with tasty food and reasonable prices. Miso soup was good. Sushi (rolls) could have been better, I think the rice was not well prepared or cooked. Beef bowl was delicious with a big portion. Dumpling was also tasty and we liked it. The service is also fine.

This place ticks all the boxes for me. Staff was super sweet and helpful. Beautiful presentation of the dishes. Quality fish. Reasonably priced for sushi. Good variety, and not overly Americanized. We will definitely be back!
