Winemaker Spotlight: Philip Togni

"Philip was answered by Jack and Mary Taylor, who had purchased the Mayacamas winery. He traveled to California. 'I was making pink wine out of three varieties: Gamay, Zinfandel and Cabernet,' he says about those early days at Mayacamas." - Erin Brooks

We had the best time at Mayacamas with Anthony who led us through an incredible tasting! It was our first time having their wines and we cannot wait to come back for more. Everything we tried was incredible, with flavors that gave us a really well-rounded Napa Valley experience. Thank you Anthony for your recommendations, stories, and laughs!

We came in around 4:30 to the tasting room in downtown Napa and happened to be the only ones there. Travis who is an amazing human being, told us the coolest stories and served us some amazing wines. We felt so lucky to have him host us and he showed great hospitality to fellow industry people like us. Beautiful place with chic decor and very old wine bottles. Thank you for a memorable experience! Finally got my birth year wine 😁🍷

Google
I had the library tasting and all the wines were great. The 2013 Chardonnay blew me away and all the Cabs were great. It was really special to taste the same wine from different years. I think I'm developing a dangerous taste for aged wines. Aside from the wines, the atmosphere was so so: dust on the hanging fixtures, not enough shady areas, and it could be bigger. The host was knowledgable to a point. His spiel seemed really rehearsed and he hesitated on answering some of my questions. I definitely overheard the same speech at other guests tables. I think the tasting room could use a bar, it might help the host not say the same things at different tables or perhaps they can use more staff to entertain the guests.

This place is amazing The service is great, angel was so accommodating, we had a large party, gave us great suggestions and history on the wines I'd recommend getting a glass of the "sunset" 201& Cabernet Amazing tasting room

Our family was warmly welcomed by the host, David Tijero, who guided us to the tasting room. We decided to go with the library vintage tasting, during which David demonstrated exceptional professionalism and expertise as he meticulously explained each wine selection. His knowledge and sense of humor made us impressed with the wines but the experience shined with his hospitality. It was a truly wonderful experience. We are looking forward to visiting the estate near future!

Great place to visit in the downtown Napa area right next to Lululemon pet friendly one of the most sought after wineries with a portfolio of wines that are dating back to 25+ years highly suggested to make reservations. Please bring a go container with you so you can fill up on all the amazing lines to take home.

If you're a wine enthusiast looking for an outstanding tasting room in downtown Napa, Mayacamas Downtown is definitely worth a visit. As the tasting room for Mayacamas winery, it offers an exceptional experience for wine lovers. The decor of the tasting room is magnificent, and there is indoor and outdoor seating available, making for a beautiful atmosphere in which to enjoy their exceptional wines. I appreciated that they offer a variety of kosher wines, including two cabernets, a chardonnay, and a rose option, all of which are not mevushal. For this reason I chose to purchase some of their kosher wines to enjoy later. The staff at Mayacamas Downtown were knowledgeable and helpful, providing valuable insights and information about the wines they offer. I was impressed with the high-quality and beautiful bag that they provided for wine purchases, adding to the overall experience. In summary, if you're looking for an exceptional tasting room in downtown Napa, Mayacamas Downtown is a must-visit. With their outstanding wines, beautiful atmosphere, and knowledgeable staff, it's an experience that's not to be missed.

One of my favourite locations in downtown Napa for some great wine and friendly hosts - Nathan was amazing. The mountain vineyard is also great depending on your mood.

Yelp
Beautiful winery with amazing service. Highly recommend to not Uber here because of how remote it is. You basically drive up a mountain for it. We got lucky and it was a private tour for two as we did a ATV around the premise which had breathtaking views. There were 6 wines in the tasting. Explanations on the wine making and the winery were well done and you could tell the employee enjoyed being there

Yelp
The atmosphere was very simple, clean, and modern. Wine was very good depending on what your palate prefers. Service was ok the guy did a bit too much talking and I couldn't enjoy my tasting.

Yelp
After checking in at the Andaz Napa, we decided to kill some time and hit up Mayacamas before our dinner reservation. I came upon Mayacamas during my planning and I was glad they had seating available for 4 since we didn't have a reservation. Ambiance was ok, can't beat the convenience though! Our host was friendly and answered all of our questions. The wines were pretty good, reds better than the white. The only thing I didn't like was the harsh lighting, I felt that the spot lighting was too bright.

Yelp
Located at the top of Mt. Veeder is Mayacamas Vineyards, home to expansive views and rich, intense mountain fruit. We had a great experience touring the facilities and ATV-ing around the property with Kris & her fun-loving Golden, Cash (full name Johnny Cash). These wines are powerful but full of finesse. We can't wait to cellar a few of these beauties and see how they show!

Yelp
This spot was really cute && my favorite. It's a small intimate spot we're I would def plan a date night. I stumbled on this spot on my way to the Archer. I had a glass and the cheese board that's not pictured. The cheese on that board was infused with lavender and espresso. I'm still thinking about that cheese and it's the next day. Wine was very good. My server I wish I got his name is was AMAZING I believe he's African American. He was very knowledgeable and just so kind and friendly. I'll def be back 5 stars!

Yelp
We went in an hour before closing and chose to do the all reds tasting. Worst $50 you can spend. The server poured the wines and left, no explanation about the wines, nothing to say about the winery. There was a guy stacking chairs and tables getting ready to close shop. The wine was awful, had no flavor, not well integrated, no finish. Expected more from Mount Veeder. We typically like wine from all the mountain appellations and the Beckstoffer vineyards. Heard good things about this winery, but definitely didn't see why from this tasting room experience.

Yelp
A very nice tasting room for the famed Mayacams Winery in Downtown Napa, part of the Hotel Archer building a little ways off First Street. The original winery is up a long and winding road on Mt Veeder. The tasting room is beautifully decorated and inviting. However, there's a small outdoor area that had an open table so we chose that. There are several tastings to choose from and having just visited a couple primarily cab sauv tasting rooms, we chose the Chardonnay Library flight. There is also a selection of cheeses to choose from. Being a little hungry we also chose a cheese and they serve it with marcona almonds, fig jam and crackers. Our server was prompt, friendly and attentive. At one point, out pleasant outdoor table became a bit chilly as the sun dropped in the late afternoon. We ask to move indoors but our server suggested that she fire up one of the heaters and that made us comfortable again. At the end of our Chardonnay flight she brought us a glass of a 2003 cabernet sauvignon from the library that was much appreciated and delicious. Personally, I'm a big fan of Mayacama wines but of course that's a matter of taste and the particular style of the winery. That said, this tasting experience deserves 5 stars.

Yelp
This is a fantastic tasting room. The wine is great and the service is impeccable! The staff was so attenative and helpful, taking customer service as their highest priorty. Very impressed about their care and diligence and wine knowledge. The location is great too because there's lots of great food places close by as well. The decor was very modern. I highly recommend trying some Mayacamas wines here. Bring yiur friends, wine tasting is akways better with friends.

Yelp
Stopped here for a wine tasting for a girls trip with my sister and I and staff were extremely attentive and friendly! Would recommend

Yelp
First of all you can enjoy your wine flight indoors or outdoors. Shaun was our server and was very descriptive when talking about the wines. He explained the process of making each wine... So refreshing to hear about the wines instead of just being poured the wine with no details about it. Shaun, we owe you Lodi and Carmel wine maps with our recommendations!

Yelp
I and two friends on a wine tasting tour of Napa went for the Library Vintage tasting menu. Priced a $85 pr. person. Having really looked forward to this tasting our expectations were high. We tasted: 2010 Chardonnay 2012 Merlot 2018 Cab 2012 Cab 2008 Cab The setting was very nice. An open room with some merchandise on sale. Including - oddly - chess sets! The staff were nice, friendly and attentive. Overall the wine was a disappointment. The Chardonnay was the best of the lot, but even that was no where near what you would expect of a high end California Chardonnay. Nice nose, but without any real notes or undertones. Both the Merlot and the Cabs left us scratching our heads. No body, almost complete lack of notes. Basically, just the canvas of a Cab, but with no paint. We had a new bottle opened of the Chardonnay, which was great service. That did help, and the second glass had more body, but still not what we were expecting. We felt the tasting menu was a selection of weaker vintages aimed at drawing in a crowd, but as pretty experienced wine drinkers, that did not work on us at all. We left without buying any bottles, unlike at the other events we have attended. We will try their wines again to make sure we were not just unlucky on the day. As Mayacama generally has a good name. But on the day we left unfulfilled.

Yelp
My friends and I decided to spend a weekend in Napa to celebrate my 30th birthday and Mayacamas was our first pitstop. We made reservations ahead of time but we ended up having the whole place to ourselves (because it was a torrential downpour of rain this weekend). This tasting room was beautifully decorated & very cozy. The service was amazing. I really wish I could remember his name because he was well-attentive to our needs & really knowledgeable. You could also tell that he was very passionate, which was appreciated. Because we were first-timers, it would have been nice to be given just a brief overview of how winetasting works. We ended up sipping all the wines before we got the explanation/history behind them. But otherwise, this place was amazing & we even ended up getting the opportunity to taste a few extra wines. Some of the wines were good and the others were just okay. But this place was relatively affordable & I would still highly recommend it.

Yelp
Tasting Mayacamas is easy now with their trendy downtown tasting room. Mayacamas is classic old Napa. Many will have only seen these wines on a restaurant wine list. Here you can experience their wines in a variety of recommended tasting groups, depending on your style preference, or by the glass. A must-stop for a true old-school Napa experience that has stayed true to its style despite a winemaker change. Plus they have a great group of people leading the tastings and sharing the Mayacamas story. Be sure to order some of their delicious nibbles too.

Yelp
Nice trendy tasting room in downtown Napa. We enjoyed our experience with the tasting and the cheese plater we bought. The food really does make a difference when tasting. We liked the Chardonnay and the 2014 Cabernet both were balanced and flavorful. However, our group only liked these two wines the others were way to young and not worth the price. The pricing is also very high for their bottles. Out of my price range. I guess if you buy a bottle and let it sit in your wine celler for a few years it may be worth the price. I would go back for a glass of Chardonnay and people watch downtown.

Yelp
Wine and cheese...it was amazing. Our guide knew how to pair and was knowledge about the wines. She was friendly. The wines were delicious. I don't normally drink white wine and she found one that I liked. The cheese plate was also very good. We sat outside and enjoyed the weather. I ended up buying one of the white wines and we had a great afternoon.

Yelp
We arrived tonight around 4:45pm after a reservation at a winery in Los Carneros. We asked this winery about their #1 recommendation in the Napa Area. It was Mayacamas. When they heard we were leaving tomorrow, they said check out their tasting room in downtown Napa. We cancelled our dinner plans & headed to the Mayacamas tasting room downtown. They had plenty of availability between 4:30-6pm online. We decided to walk in because of the availability listed online & how early we were arriving ahead of closing. Unfortunately when we arrived, the host or bouncer (whoever was out front) decided they were closed & wouldn't admit us or the couple behind us. Instead, he told us to come back on Wednesday (too bad we're leaving on Monday!). Always disappointed in a place that doesn't observe the hours listed online. And bummed we decided to cancel our dinner plans (which we couldn't rebook) in order to prioritize this winery. A solid winery is rooted in great hospitality & this one apparently falls short. Wish it was as great as the recommendation but wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know ... who knows if they'll be open or tasting at that time ‍ To those reading - if you happen to be in the area & it happens to be open, it seems like a spot to enjoy, but definitely don't make or reschedule plans around it. If this is how their tasting room operates, I can only imagine how their winery operates!

Yelp
Great history and good wines. I don't particularly like dry but she found one for me!!! The hill block

Yelp
Such a great little find in Downtown Napa. I am officially obsessed with their logo. Two mountain lions dancing/fights (break dance fighting?). The staff was so helpful and very informative. As you do the tasting, they tell you about each wine and its history. I also liked that they had a nice patio area where we were able to site and enjoy a bit of sun! Overall, as far as tasting rooms go, this was great! Stay Cheerful ;)

Yelp
We had walked by this location a few times within the last month but it has not been open yet. We were super excited when we decided to give it a try today and found that it was now open! A soft opening that is. Their hours are still being adjusted and will be changing slightly in the next couple months. For now though they are open until 5-6ish. The min we walked in we were greeted by Zoe and told we could sit anywhere we like. Before we get into the wine though, let's first talk about the decor of this tasting room-um amazing! Sleek and modern, yet still cozy and warm. I loved their metal accents and giant Fiddle Leaf Fern as you walk in the door. Even their tables had a fluid look that blended with the wine that was in your glass. Now for the wine-if you're familiar with the Mayacamas winery, you know that they make some phenomenal wines. The tasting menu offers a '16 Chardonnay, '17 Merlot, and a '14 Cab Sauv. Tasting fee is $35 for those three. You can also tack on two reserve wines- '03 + '04 cab sauv for $65. We loved the Chardonnay! We don't normally enjoy typical Napa chards, but this one was delicious! Very unique, and resembled a more French style chard. If you're not a chard fan like us, we encourage you to still give this one a try! We enjoyed the rest of the tasting, especially the '14 cab. We actually enjoyed it over the two reserved ones. Fun fact, Mayacamas now makes a Kosher wine. For all you kosher people out there, get your hands on a bottle of their kosher wine! All in all, we really enjoyed our time at Mayacamas Downtown. Zoe who helped us and who also happens to be a somm was great, very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. We left with 4 bottles and will def be back.

Yelp
We are in town for a Mt. Veeder event and just strolling downtown Napa chilling after a travel day. I spotted Mayacamas and was telling my wife they produced Mt. Veeder wines. They were about to close but Sean graciously invited us in as he overheard me talking about the place. Wow! This guy provided a customer service moment. A lot of people make wine. Sean made an experience. That's differentiation. Thanks Sean. You made our evening!

Yelp
Amazing spot for top notch world class wine! The Cabernet was the #4 of Wine Spectators' Top 100 last year. Tasted the 2014 Cabernet which was showing well now. Lovely Burgundian style Chardonnay and the Merlot was delicious! Sean is very polished and knowledgeable. The tasting room is stylish and airy - very COVID approved. Come check it out when you are near downtown Napa!
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
They've opened this new space downtown, which is great and easily more accessible than up Mt. Veeder. That said, I do like the "old school-ness" of the original winery location. This room is a bit of a hodgepodge of old and new Napa chic. I am sure it'll find itself soon enough. That aside, it's a comfortable space, well appointed and the wines are always high quality and in one of my preferred styles, leaner and more finessed in an old-school Napa way. I highly recommend it.

Chris P.

Yelp
Boo! Wine wasn't great, service was surly and nonexistent. Clearly they were not interested in serving another group at the end of the day - even though we had made reservations ahead of time for that time slot. Out of 9 wineries that we hit in Napa Valley this is the only one where NO ONE in our group bought any wine. HARD PASS!
google avatar

Larry L.

Yelp
To say that this experience was a disappointment is an understatement. We really loved the wine but the service was terrible. We understood that there was a party coming in at 2pm but to be forgotten after 12:45pm is unacceptable. The wine is great if you are looking for a grab and go service but I would not recommend going for a tasting. We were rushed out and not offered anything to purchase or recommended anything in particular. The manager didn't even wait for me to sign my credit statement. Very disappointed.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
We tried the current flight along with the cheese plate. The service was amazing and very attentive. The wine was not as oak forward, but still delicious. Great spot to come hang out with friends for a nice intimate evening.
google avatar

Doug S.

Yelp
Am giving this tasting room a 2-star rating only because the Chardonnay was AMAZING. Then I literally watched the waitress pour 4 glasses from the same bottle only to have her deliver them to our table and tell us these 2 are the "2014 Merlot" and these 2 are the "2012 Cabernet Sauvignon" when they were all clearly the Merlot (and the taste was obvious). Granted we were the last reserved table at 4:30 in the afternoon and the waitress even admitted she was having a bad day ... but to tell us the wrong wines (in Napa of all places) was quite disappointing. Very clean bathrooms though.
google avatar

Jasmine P.

Yelp
So first things first, Shawn was amazing. He was knowledgeable and knew the menu and what paired well. His suggestions were beyond helpful and genuine. I will definitely have to come back to this tasting room just for the service alone. Now, to the wines and cheeses. Let's just say amazing is an understatement. The truffle goat cheese and coffee crusted cheddar WONDERFUL! The red wines, which I usually despise, all winners for me. I will be back for both the wine and cheese again!!!! I can't wait. I will request a reservation with Shawn.

Richard R.

Yelp
wine was ok. server dropped off wine then ghosted us. had to ask for bill. closest I've ever come to walking out without paying. too many other places to get that type service.

Yelp
We stopped at Mayacamas after reading that their 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon was ranked #2 on the 2019 Wine Spectator Top 100 list! Lucy is their tasting room manager. She was a phenomenal hostess. We chatted and chatted about their wines, their vineyards and winemaking in Napa. Their tasting room is in downtown Napa. We had such a delightful visit with Lucy and loved every wine we tried. We spent 2 hours there! It was a Thursday afternoon and we were lucky to have Lucy's full attention.

John B.

Yelp
Fantastic service, employees are eager to discuss more about the history and winemaking process at the legendary mayacamas. Very genuine, and fantastic wine.
