We came here with my cousin's almost a year ago, going through some old pictures, we had a good time, it was raining like it is now - cats, dogs, and sheep! It's a beautiful place that's been around for a long long time.
I carried these wines on many wine lists going back to the late 80's - WoW! Old guy alert, they were made rich, dense, complex, with drinkability but meant to age as few wines are anymore. They got a new winemaker, I'm guessing 2013 and the wines in my honest opinion are not as beautiful as they once were. The older vintages that we were honored to experience on this visit were gorgeous classic Cabernet blends, made similar to Bordeaux with Cabernet Sauvignon, and smaller amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petite Verdot.
I found the newer vintages to have slightly more acidity (not a bad thing), and more expressive fruit, made in the style of today's wines that will please many people sooner, than later. More ripe cherry and blueberry, less cedar, cassis, plum and saddle leather. I love me some saddle leather - it's a wonderful nuance in a great Cabernet (predominant with this grape varietal). Therefore, do not hesitate to check them out, they continue to make wonderful wines - more akin to this era than last. Perhaps I'm just reminiscent of the old classics you find at the wineries that have been around for 40 to 50+ years.
