Mayawell Bar

We went to Mayawell a couple of weekends ago after eating an early dinner at Blueprint on 3rd, which is right down the street. This place has a great, laid-back vibe with a good selection of drinks. You can sit inside at/near the bar, out on the patio, or on their rooftop. We tried: We'll Never Be Royals, the Spicy! Margarita, and El Caballero. The bartenders are great and well-informed, so ask them for recommendations. We did and weren't disappointed! We'll be back soon!

A little pricey, but the drinks are worth it. There is a cute loft out back where you can watch the BHM sunset and most times there's a food truck next door that serves Latin fusion food. They let me bring the food into the bar when I went last time. I totally recommend for a cute evening out with friends.

Mayawell is a gem in Birmingham. The bar staff is attentive and the drinks are good! There's even a taco truck 🚚

The cocktails are heavy on Mexican spirits (Mayan, duh), well made, and quite tasty. Water stations are placed in strategic places throughout the outdoor spaces and the entire place feels safe and inviting. The crowd is dominated by suburban youngsters. I like the roof that allows for normal voice conversations and offers views of the nightly city. The downside of the roof is that there is no service and walking down to the bar to get a drink still comes with a tip of 20, 30, or 50%.

What a cool and quaint little spot! My wife and I stopped in on a Saturday just as they opened and before the crowds. We tried a round of mixed drinks and chased them with a couple of shots. The drinks were TOP-NOTCH and the selection of high-quality tequila is fantastic. This place is on my "return-list"!

I went to celebrate a coworker’s college graduation. I loved the cozy atmosphere. I had one mock beverage, and shared a drink with a friend that had Cucumber, Tequila, Lime, Lavender and maybe more. It was just right. It’s a quaint place where you can really make yourself comfortable. They have a rooftop patio that would be fantastic on warm nights. The food truck had great food and was really accommodating. We had a big order and the bartenders never made us feel rushed and came at all the right times. They paid special attention to details and could make drinks that you wanted by describing the taste that you were going for. I love the location and convenience to 280 and 20/59. Easy entry and exit. Right at Pepper Place so great options around.

Mayawell was an amazing experience! The decor is cool, the bartenders are friendly and efficient and the cocktails are absolutely amazing! My first drink was good, then I ordered a We'll Never Be Royal. It's gorgeous - deep purple garnished with a purple daisy - and it's smokey, slightly spicy and all around sweet. Seriously one of my top three favorite cocktails of all time. Cannot wait to return!

Mayawell has such a great atmosphere with some of the best service. Places being queer friendly and welcoming are two things I look for most often, and this place had both. I was able to enjoy myself and feel safe while doing so. Perfect way to end my birthday

Loved it here! The space and atmosphere was everything! I really enjoyed the Tequila flight. But the star of the show was the taco truck outside. 10 out of 10!!

If you're not already a Fan of mezcals or tequilas then you'll probably change your mind after a visit. Wide range of beverages and specialty cocktails available to please everyone. Intimate indoor seating with a cozy, warm interior or a spacious outdoor patio.

I wanted to love Mayawell, I've heard so many things about it. The ambiance was cool, albeit loud. We were shown where to sit by a member of the staff at the bar, but then we were studiously ignored until we gave up and left. It was a Saturday night, but only 7pm. Not so busy we could understand getting no service at all. Do better, guys.

LETS MAKE POUR DECISIONS! Mayawell had been on my list for quite some time. I haven't had the chance to check it out until now since I do have a friend in town. We came in for the sole purposes of getting a few margs and some laughs of course. Located on the outskirts of Pepper Place, this cocktail lounge packs a powerful punch. The inside is beautiful with brick walls which give it a rustic, yet relaxing vibe inside. When we came in there was a crowd of older folks, but given it was a Thursday night it is understandable. We decided to sit on the bench area. It did take a little while before a hostess was able to come over, but when they did come over the checked out Ids then we didn't see them for quite a few minutes after that. I treated my friend to Margaritas, but they said they needed to have a card on file. Usually that is no problem, but when I checked my bank statement later I noticed that in order to have the card on file for a tab its a $10 fee. I wish I had know this prior. Both of us ordered a different flavored marg. Maya got the strawberry and I got the watermelon. Both of them were delicious. You could taste the tequila, but it wasn't too bad of a drink. I definitely prefer the margaritas where you cannot taste the alcohol. Loved coming here and I will continue to support this business.

There are so many things to love about Mayawell! The bar is located on one of the main corners in the Avondale area, right near Pepper Place. The inside has lots of nice decor and lighting. They also have an outdoor patio and rooftop searing area, which is my fav. I love to watch the sunset with a cocktail in the evening. They do a good job of incorporating seasonal flavors and have good happy hour specials! The Mezon Catering food truck is also on the property and it is DELICIOUS! The street burrito is my favorite but don't sleep on the quesadillas or chips n queso They even serve bruch, which I highly recommend. The staff inside the bar and food truck are super helpful if you need recommendations and service is pretty quick even when it's busy. Mayawell is a sure fire late night or daytime (Saturday) fun!

Good drinks, great atmosphere. My two gripes here are the size of your mixed drinks and prices. I don't mind paying for a good drink. And the drinks at Mayawell are delicious. But could you possibly make them any smaller? Come on now. Love your place, but these may quite possibly be the smallest mixed drinks I have ever seen in my life. It is for this reason that I minimize my trips to Mayawell. It is just not good value for the money.

The service was excellent and I loved the spicy margarita. I love the ambience and the vibe there.

I had passed Mayawell several times on my way to other places and finally decided to stop by last night. This is considered an agave tequila bar. They advertise a selection of 85 + agave spirits. They don't serve food, but the night we went the Mezcal food truck was there. I highly recommend their chicken burrito. Mayawell has an extensive cocktail menu with 11 signature cocktails and 11 classic cocktails. They also serve wine and cans or bottles of beer. From the outside, it looks like a small place, but there is plenty of seating inside and in the back. I loved the intimate nooks and crannies that were all around. There is even a small rooftop seating area. The only drawback is that they need a bigger bar. When we visited there were lots of people working behind the bar, but it still took a long time to get drinks. They offer table service, which is great, but the time between ordering and receiving your drink is a lot. Hopefully, they can work this out. Overall this is a good place. The vibe is great, and the drinks are good. They just need a bigger bar area.

Excellent place to come to for a cocktail. Nice interior, feels welcoming and comfortable inside. I tried the Figgly Wiggly cocktail. It's a tequila drink with ginger, fig, lemon and clove. It was herbal and refreshing. My boyfriend got the Adventures in Wonderland which was also a really nice earthy cocktail. Both weren't too sweet and were well-balanced.

The vibe is a 10/10! I went on a Friday night, amazing drinks, the vibe was on point! Great variety of music. The drinks are intricate and special! Every time I visit, I'll be back! Oh and the food truck was soooo good! Love love love!!!!!

The service was fantastic and the ambiance was a chill place. They had a very large tequila selection as well as mixed drinks. The staff was helpful with suggestions/recommendations. Only took off one star because space/seating we saw inside was a bit limited for our group of 6-had it of been a busy evening we likely wouldn't have been able to stay long and be seated. They did appear to have an upstairs, so this may not be the case for busier nights. Otherwise this is a great cozy place to have some fun with fantastic staff.

The bar is definitely a vibe, the owner or manager was working by himself( sorry Mr buff bartender my memory is bad)and was on top of everything. My husband is as picky of a drinker as there is but the guy made him a tequila drink that he LOVED! I had a spicy margarita and then he made me a custom tequila drink with butterfly pea syrup. I wish I had taken pictures of them but was too excited to try them. My husband got a drink with artichoke and tequila, he was suspect about it at first but had 2 of em. The music was sooo good then found out the bartender was also the DJ it's literally a place to go. We will be back and taking a cocktail class there as well!

A fantastic and magical place for mezcal and tequila cocktails! When you walk in, you feel you have transported to a place of so many possibilities! They have an outdoor area, great for big groups as well. There is also a food truck outside of the bar. Definitely worth checking out and staff was amazing!

Loaded Nachos w/ Chicken 8/10 Solid Nachos, it exceeded my expectations and hit the spot! Good choice!

This is such a cute place! Great happy hour special drinks and a helpful staff. I just got fries (Which were good) from the food truck but a few of the others in our group ordered some of the more popular items (tacos, nachos, loaded fries..). Everyone said the food was good! There's a rooftop seating area and covered outdoor seating area.

As soon as I walked in I was pretty impressed by the scenery. It's more spacious than I thought it would be and is nicely air conditioned (very important) lol! I asked for the sweetest drink on the menu and I forget the exact name of the drink but it's something with peach. My fiancé got the strawberry margarita which was amazing! The service was also very quick but we went at 9pm on a Saturday so it wasn't very packed. Would definitely come back!

Love this place! If not on a weekend, you can catch a drink and a taco here with ease and both will be delicious. My go to is the spicy marg with a Reposado of the bartender's choosing. The tequila + mezcal selection is one of the best in the city, and the bartenders are knowledgeable. We've been taught a thing or two from our fave bartender there, Deangelo. There's a taco truck set up on the side of the building and has always been open when I've popped in. I stick with tacos, but there are tots, a burger, etc. The inside is dark, vibey, and fun. If it's a nice night, sit on the roof.

We had such a great time at the bar. The theme was amazing and every drink I tired was true to the theme. Rachel was friendly and could mix any drink on the menu. There was a taco truck outside that provided food. I just enjoyed the ambience of this location.

This place is eye opening. It is definitely a rave about in Birmingham. They have plenty of staff to take care of their customers. The seating is great too. Mayawell has several areas that can be reserved for medium to large groups. Be sure to call ahead. There are plenty of drinking options on the menu. The bar changes the menu out seasonally, I found out from our waitress. I like a place that doesn't carry the same boring menu 12 months in a row. They are pricey so be aware. Lastly there are not a lot of food options around., however a Taco Truck is on site for your munchie needs.

Great atmosphere and selection of Mezcal. The service was kind and helpful. We will be back.

Great spot for awesome margs of most any flavor. The staff is amazing and Jay will take great care of you. My go to spot for a Mary and even has rooftop sitting outside.

Update: ordered the We'll Never be Royals and Adventures in Wonderland and they were both great!

Great bar! Great for a after hours meeting or just happy hour. The also have a food truck outside. It's in a great location if you don't want to be downtown downtown madness.. give the a try!

This was such a fun spot for a girls night. The margaritas are tasty and the atmosphere is lovely. We sat outside and enjoyed all the Hispanic flare it had to offer.

What an adorable bar!! I only wish that it had been warm enough to sit in the outdoor patio! I absolutely loved the menu. It was so unique and had amazing tequila and mezcal drinks! I decided to try the drink with espresso and mezcal since it was so unique. It was definitely fun and better than I thought it'd be but I actually liked my friends' better. We ordered chips and queso from the food truck which was great and so convenient. Definitely would love to come back on a warm sunny day!!!

One of my favorite gems downtown. Even when it's crowded there's plenty of room and gorgeous outdoor seating. I've tried a few of the menu drinks as well as a good old marg or two and their well Tequila is pretty smooth. The food at the truck outside is to DIE FOR. Service is always awesome and quick. Definitely a nice chill spot on a weeknight and a bit busier on the weekends. They also have table bar service which is super convenient! Would love to see them do something cool with the outdoor space like some music or something. Speaking of music: there playlist is . It's the first place I recommend for people looking for a nice spot for a drink. Need to bring friends soon!

The vibe is so chill indoor and out. The top deck is my favorite spot. I have not had a drink that was not good. Now, the most important thing to note about Mayawell is the food truck. They have the best black bean burger in Bham. Add egg! It's great. The pepper jelly is delicious. The truffle fries are great as well. If you like tres leche cake, you have to try theirs. It's delicious!

The bar was nice inside but the roof top was very small with limited seating. We sat outside but it was literally concrete fenced in with very plain patio furniture and a few lights. Drinks were very expensive and small. Glad we tried it but won't be going back. Definitely didn't live up to all the hype.

One of my favorite bars in BHAM. Great service, great ambiance, and great drinks! I love when they ask me what my preferences are so that they can get me the right cocktail. Also, food truck !!

Love this new place! Had a great early afternoon gathering with yummy drinks. We really liked how each cocktail was expertly mixed with fresh ingredients. The beer selection included local breweries and popular ones so there was something for everyone. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere comfortable. Finally, I love a rooftop and being able to see down the street to Pepper Place was neat. The only suggestions are that shade of some type will be needed on the rooftop as it gets warmer and add information about the food truck. The nachos looked amazing but we did not know anything about the vendor. We absolutely recommend Mayawell to anyone.

When you walk in you are welcomed by walls that all have unique pieces on it. Plenty of seating inside and out. Really cool mural outside and a food truck! I have been here twice and enjoyed every drink I've ordered. The staff is very friendly and I enjoy their drinks because it has unique ingredients. They do a great job with presentation and I like their paper straws. I will definitely be back and would like to try the food truck.

I went there last night with my sisters we wanted to enjoy the 2/22/22 magic with a nice drink. The facility was very clean, and cozy. The music was great as well. I can't forget to mention how amazing the drinks were. Cosmic love with tequila is now my go to!

I'm sure glad I decided to check out this fairly new bar. We went here after dinner and drinks at East West downtown. Love the location, which is far enough away from downtown that parking wasn't too big of an issue. It tends to be crowded and quite popular as a new drinking spot in Bham, but there is seating inside and ample outside as well as the popular 2nd floor patio. The theme, music, and indoor decor is awesome (def worth snapping some shots for social media). Staff and bartenders are super friendly and accommodating. Cocktail menu is superb. Even though it is a tequila bar, I did get my modified old fashioned with mezcal in. Awesome late night ambience. And for that late night tipsy/drunk munchies, there's a food truck outback that serves the right chow for your cravings. After a couple old fashioneds, I devoured an al pastor cali burrito. Will definitely come back here again. Not to mention, a few great restaurants are only a walk away, so if there's a waitlist there, it doesn't hurt to drop by Mayawell for a cocktail or two, or three. Thanks ya'll!

Another addition to the effervescent and growing bar scene here in Bham. Mayawell brings a fresh new tequila and mezcal themed bar to the lake view area. I've had the opportunity to visit a few times and each time I came away a little more impressed with the venue. They also have a food truck in the back with food specials to assist with the accompaniment of your beverage. The spot is great for groups, date night or solo you take your pick. Staff is nice and friendly definitely take a visit.

Birmingham's tequila bar. I'm not sure if there is another in the city. If there is, Mayawell is at the top of the list. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. They have an inside and outdoor sitting area. The tequila selection i a very impressive. The menu has every drink your little tequila heart could dream of. Also, the bartenders are highly skilled and can easily make magic happen in a glass. To top it all off, the food truck parked in the back is the best pairing for this establishment. I can't wait to return.

Mayawell Bar is a cute and cozy new addition to the Lakeview district. They are an Agave Spirits Bar, which may sound a little intimidating at first. However, with both classics like margaritas and house specials that are a bit more eccentric, this place has something for everyone. We tried the Berry Berry drink and the Carajillo. Both drinks were tasty, but the Carajillo was amazing! It was not warm, but tasted like a slightly spiked hot cocoa. It has kahlua whipped cream on top. The thing that stands out to me the most, however, is the atmosphere here- think comfy seating and warm, dimmer lighting that makes the space feel more like a friend's trendy apartment than a lounge. Noise level is just right so you can easily carry a conversation without shouting. They have a pretty back patio area. Unfortunately I visited on a cold and rainy day but I think it would be great to sit outside during the warmer months. Came on a Tuesday and they had a taco truck in the back - not sure if they do this every week. Knocking a star off for the food. Unfortunately the veggie quesadilla was just okay...very greasy. Other than that, the staff were very sweet and welcoming and we had an overall good experience.

My wife and I came here on a Saturday night and it was pretty crowded! Not a bad thing, but the area felt very small with so many people around, and we had a slightly long wait. But the service was good once we were helped! The inside of the bar is very nice and gives somewhat of an farmhouse-like vibe. There is a back porch area that had a food truck set up and also some small tables and a tv. My favorite part was the rooftop area of the bar on the second floor upstairs - it provided a unique point of view of downtown Birmingham! We didn't stay up there for long because it was cold and windy. However, I can see it being a cool spot in the warmer months to hangout at in this venue. I ordered the Paloma cocktail and it packed a bit of a punch to it and it had a nice taste to it. The price for their cocktails is about on par for the course with other bars. All in all, I had a great experience here - the crowd/time for service felt lengthy, and probably would give it a 4.5 if I could! Would definitely like to come back here and will do so in the future.

Ooo it's so cute. "Instagramable" as my fellow millennials would call it. Agave city in here! Don't worry, there is also a nice selection of beer and wine if you are not much of a tequila and mezcal fan. My girlfriend and a couple of our friends met here for a little social drinking. I had one of those "give me whatever you suggest" nights with the bartenders and I cannot say that I was disappointed at the slightest. "Unknown Pleasures" started me off. I adored the balance of citrus to tequila and mezcal. "Bourbanham" won me over. Unfortunately it was my girlfriend's drink and not mine. lol I adore old fashions so of course this would make sense. I don't remember what the other 2 drinks were, but they were also delicious. Stop by and enjoy this cozy bar.

Mayawell has some of the best cocktails in Birmingham! It specializes in tequila and mezcal but also has a variety of other cocktail options. Their seasonal margaritas are my favorite thing to order - when I went this past weekend, they had a watermelon margarita that was probably the best marg I've ever had! They also have great micheladas, something that I haven't been able to find elsewhere in Birmingham. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, making it great for groups. The inside decor and atmosphere is very cool and trendy, and they have a rooftop that overlooks the Birmingham skyline. If you want food, the Mezon food truck is always there, and they have tasty tacos and burritos to accompany your drink. Mayawell is also walking distance from Pepper Place and other bars/breweries such as Ghost Train and Trim Tab, making it very conveniently located. Mayawell is a must-visit if you are in town!

We walked in on Saturday night, it was crowded. But, we couldn't sit at the bar because they had the barstools reserved.. never heard of this before. There were no open tables.. we wanted to order a drink from the bar and take it outside to the outdoor patio, were told we couldn't do that. I'll never be back. This was our second try. Bye. So many other choices in the neighborhood.I was embarrassed because I was the one who suggested we try this bar again.

Love this tequila bar! Stopped by last night, margaritas are always fresh. My favorite is the spicy strawberry margarita. The inside is cozy and patio/rooftop is perfect during the spring and summer! Service is always great, servers are so friendly. Order food from the taco truck next to Mayawell, it makes a perfect pairing and they'll bring the food to your table!

So we came in here a few months ago and had great service and wonderful drinks. Stopped in just after 10pm today (Saturday), to grab a drink. Attempted to order at the bar and were told to "grab a table." There was not a place for 3 of us to sit so I told her we were headed outside and could we grab drinks there to take outside. She said it was table service outside and we would have to sit to get a drink. We sat for about 15 minutes and nobody came to ask or even check in with us so we headed out without drinks. Very disappointed.
