"Opening May 16 as a stylish sibling and intimate prelude to Joon (a last-minute rename from Delbar — “May” is the poetic Farsi term for wine), May Bar sits front and center upon entry with a 2,000-square-foot lounge and a 1,500-square-foot leafy patio outfitted with backgammon tables and soft couches that feel more like a living room than fine dining. I see it as a more approachable, casual counterpart where cocktails and small plates riff on Persian flavors: tuna tartare with saffron-cured egg yolk and fried lavash, fried calamari with a torshi remoulade, May Bar–only dishes alongside early Joon favorites (including Joon’s burger with crispy onions and torshi remoulade), and cocktails such as an Old Fashioned with fig cordial, an espresso martini with cardamom-agave syrup, and a pomegranate-lime margarita; hours are Tue–Thu 11:30 a.m.–10 p.m., Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–11 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.–9:30 p.m." - Lulu Chang
