"A highly anticipated, enormous culinary space in West Adams that houses multiple vendors and restaurants, this Los Angeles debut extends Rose Previte’s reach with a market-and-cafe energy that helped inspire the D.C. revamp." - Tim Ebner

"A new culinary compound in West Adams worth the six-year wait, D.C. restaurateur Rose Previte’s food hall and market feels like an Avengers lineup of LA talent, with stalls from Holy Basil (introducing Yhing Yhang, a Thai barbecue counter), Poncho’s Tlayudas (running Lugya’h, a crowd-drawing tlayuda joint), and Tamales Elena (whose Maléna slings tamales, weekend barbacoa, fried fish tacos, and more). There are surprises to uncover with each visit, from finds at Sook—pre-packaged Levantine dishes, spices, and home goods—to a rotating pop-up stall that regularly changes vendors. On my visit, almost every table cradled behemoth Lugya’h tlayudas piled with chorizo or moronga and tasajo, plus a long green guaje pod that imparts the flavor of tamarind, while Maléna delivered tamales, warming weekend goat barbacoa, and weekday pescadillas of sofrito-fried fish tucked into crispy blue corn tortillas; a pozole flight makes a great centerpiece too. Set menus help groups sample widely, including the $95 tawle family-style spread at Maydan and Yhing Yhang’s new $65 counter tasting menu, and the choose-your-own-adventure format practically demands two or three visits to absorb it all." - Nicole Fellah

"I found Maydan Market to be an earnest ode to LA’s diverse culinary scene: a 10,000-square-foot food hall in West Adams built around a large copper-covered fire hearth where stalls and seating radiate outward. In the market court, Rose Previte’s West Coast outpost sits alongside rotating residencies from local chefs, and I loved that Lug'yah fires up cheesy tlayudas right next to Maydan’s flaky branzinos — it’s a lively, communal spot that feels perfect for a friend group that can never decide where to go." - Astrid Kayembe

"After more than six years of development, Washington, D.C. restaurateur Rose Previte’s ambitious project debuted in a hangar-like building that houses an outpost of Compass Rose and the Michelin-recognized Maydan alongside stalls from five Los Angeles-based restaurants like Holy Basil, Poncho’s Tlayudas, and Tamales Elena. The day is staggered by design: Compass Rose serves breakfast, the stalls open for lunch, and Maydan, the full-service restaurant, is dinner-only." - Rebecca Roland

"After more than six years in the making, this 10,000-square-foot West Adams culinary compound channels the sensory buzz of global night markets while bringing the neighborhood together. Seven businesses share a single live-fire hearth, with design touches like the original blue doors from D.C.’s Maydan, an Oaxacan-inspired mural by Ernesto Yerena, blush walls, and a cathedral-like industrial ceiling beneath a copper hood. The project spotlights immigrant businesses and keeps dining accessible, letting guests spend under $20 or opt for a higher-end dinner at Maydan; hours run 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday (with Compass Rose operating 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.), expanding to 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on October 15." - Rebecca Roland
