"There’s a strong thread of paying it forward in Sacramento’s dining culture: immigrants who arrived decades ago and worked in one of the few restaurants in the city that catered to the cuisine of their homeland have now opened their own restaurants. That’s preface to the story of Maydoon, whose executive chef Idean Farid, has followed in the footsteps of his parents, who’d opened a Persian restaurant of their own in Rancho Cordova, which they sold in 2020. A weekday lunch spread of kashkeh bodemjan (grilled eggplant dip dolloped with yogurt and drizzled with mint oil) and a Maydoon bowl (recommended with the sumptuous shredded lamb) make for a comforting, well-balanced treat — and a scoop of Persian ice cream, made with saffron, rosewater, and pistachios is a must, by the way." - Tamerra Griffin

Maydoon is serving up some fresh and modern Persian cuisine, and I’m not saying it’s THE best falafel in Sacramento, but... yeah, it prolly is. Let’s talk falafel, shall we? Most falafel is either as dense as a brick or as over-fried as that one person who still doesn’t know how to operate an air fryer. Or both! Maydoon’s? Crispy on the outside, soft, light, and moist (yes, I said it) on the inside. It’s the perfect combo, and it’s making all the other Sac falafel look basic AF. Now, let’s talk Persian cuisine. They’ve got so many vegetarian options that even the most carnivorous among us won’t miss the meat. And for you meat lovers, they’re all about the flex. Maydoon keeps the veggie dishes exciting and doesn’t just serve you a sad plate of bland hummus and sad lettuce (we've all been there). Start with the Combo Platter appetizer — a perfect intro to their super fresh food. The Veggie Kabob is grilled to perfection and seasoned that way too. And let me tell you, the portions? Generous. I ordered like 12 things (okay, maybe 3) and my “I’ll just have a bite” turned into a full-on food coma. My bad. But it was worth it. The staff is top-notch — friendly, attentive, and still smiling even when it’s busy. The setting is cozy, modern, and perfect for any group size. So whether you're on a date, with your family, or just looking to eat your weight in falafel (oh, is that just a me thing?), Maydoon’s got you covered. How I break down my ⭐️ reviews: 1 - No. Not if it was the last thing on DoorDash. 🗑️ 2 - Meh. Maybe if I’m desperate, close, and high. 😬 3 - Mid. Not texting the group chat about it. 🤷‍♀️ 4 - Hella solid. Planning my next visit. 😋 5 - Shut up and take my money. Om Nom Nom. 🔥

After passing by this restaurant countless times, I finally decided to stop in for some authentic Persian food — and I’m so glad I did. From the first bite of the flavorful hummus to the perfectly seasoned shish kabobs, fluffy rice, and tender grilled vegetables, everything was served piping hot and incredibly fresh. The restaurant itself has a warm, welcoming ambiance and was spotless, down to the gleaming gold chandeliers. It’s clear that the owners take great pride in both their food and their space. I’ll definitely be returning for another delicious meal!

It was one of the most delicious meals we have had in a longggg time. We went in for lunch, and we are so glad we did. When you first walk in, the decor is beautiful, quiet, and super clean. But it was packed!! Come to find out, it was the last day of Ramadan, and it was the meet-up spot for families. The food..? Amazing. The favorite was definitely the chicken kabob. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The house dressing and green sauce, perfection. The falafel was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. 10/10 would definitely recommend stopping by. The ice cream was also a fan favorite for our table. If you're in the area, you should check it out.

Easy to find, it's a little hard to find parking spots in busy downtown. Amazing menu, generous portions, reasonable prices, modern and clean facilities. We were a party of 18, our waitress did a great job, however having to ask for sugar for the hot Tea 3 times, then one of us walked up to the bar and picked up some is not acceptable. Hot Tea should be Enjoyed hot, not at room temperature 10 minutes later, lol. Otherwise, it's a great restaurant.

This was my first time dining here, and I cannot wait to go again. I sat at a high top in the bar area and the bar tender was very attentive and kind to my table; my water and soda stayed filled. Pro tip: add feta to the Shirazi salad - you won't be disappointed!

Came in with my kids at 7pm on a weekday- place had some tables eating but not many and there were many big tops available as well as smaller tables. The table in front of us was told they could sit anywhere they like and seat themselves. She told us they were full and I’m pretty sure it’s just because my four-year-old was being whiny. She said we could eat outside, but it was cold. we ended up going to Chef Burma down the street and it was fantastic. I ordered the beef, curry and potatoes with byrani rice and platha. Everyone (including my four year old) was happy.

Excellent restaurant, started with the most balanced and delicious Shirazi Salad, followed with the koobideh and the Rostam beer. The koobideh was very good quality and the service was excellent as well.
