10 Dallas Bars That’ll Get You Into the St. Patrick’s Day Spirit | Eater

"The original Mayer’s Garden opened in 1881 complete with live music and the spectacle of real lions and tigers on hand to entertain guests. When a reimagined tribute to the original opened 140 years later, the jungle cats were 86’d, but its spirit lives on, especially when the dancing starts. This casual sports bar lures people in for its weekend brunch and after-work fun and cocktails like the Blackberry Basil Smash. Made with Jameson Irish Whiskey, fresh muddled blackberries, basil, and lemon, it’s a refresher ready to usher in springtime in style." - Steven Craig Lindsey

Great margaritas! Even though it was packed on Saturday afternoon, we had fantastic service. We had our drinks in less than 3 minutes. Went back again on Wednesday. We had the greatest server, Trevor. He suggested the best drinks. The happy hour menu is great, especially the hummus and veggies and taquitoes.

I've never been here, yet I live down the street. Tonight, I changed that by going to Trivia Night with several of the girls in my social circle. It had booths, bar tables, bar stools, and plenty of outdoor seating. The staff was welcoming and helpful, and the food was great. I want to thank my friendly server, Trevor. If you're in the area, this is a nice spot to try overall.

This place is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE!!!!!! 💸💸💸💸💸Coulda bought groceries for the week😭😭 Nope! Rice and beans it is! Thanks alot Mayer’s Garden of debt!💰💰💰💰💸🥺😭👋 Take out a loan if ya wanna go here. Geez Louise! Hard pass! Just go to some bougie place downtown. (Service was good considering how busy it was)

Great little neighborhood spot. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Tons of TVs. We watched a Dallas Mavericks game here and the vibe was awesome! Food came out hot and delicious. Really good service and great atmosphere, only negative is limited parking.

Google
Great place to watch college football on Saturdays ! It gets crazy packed but it’s a very fun environment! It also is a fun and chill place on Sundays to watch NFL games and to have an easy brunch! The espresso martinis are really good and they are known for their nuggets which were so good !!

Google
I really just went there to have a drink one afternoon. There was a little bit of a crowd there. But it wasn't overly busy. The atmosphere was joyful, really great help from the wait staff. Even the barback, went out of his way to take care of me that afternoon. Anthony, I believe was his name, and he answered all my questions like I said he just went out of his way to make sure I had a good time that afternoon at the at the restaurant.

Google
One of my absolute favorite neighborhood spots! Mayer’s is my go-to for casual hangs, catching a game, and especially for Trivia Tuesdays — always a fun vibe. Great selection of drinks, solid bar food, and super friendly service. Bonus: the patio is a great spot when the weather’s nice and/or you want to bring your dog. Highly recommend if you're looking for a laid-back but lively spot!

Google
Came here for some trivia with some friends. The old fashioned I got was way too sweet. The other cocktail was also too sweet for me. The chicken sandwich was fresh, but bland. The honey mustard sauce for my tots made it a little better. So, for my personal tastes (which I completely understand don't match everyone's), I wasn't a fan of the food and drinks. That being said, the trivia was fun, and the staff were attentive, so I still had a good time, so I'll give 4 stars.

Yelp
I have left a review before but wanted to reiterate my love for this bar! The entire staff is incredible and works so hard to curate a laidback but fun experience with expertly made food. LeAndra has served me several times and has been attentive, caring and engaging while handling multiple tables expertly. This is a common theme with their servers and their bartenders! If you're looking for a great time with great people, Mayer's is the place to go!

Yelp
Maddie is a great server. Took great care of us and our food and drinks came right away

Sam M.

Yelp
Loved the drinks and food and service and ambiance and atmosphere. Maddie is the best!

Sydney O.

Yelp
If you're not being served by Leandra, you're doing the night all wrong. She's the perfect mix of bartender, bestie, and lowkey therapist--and she makes every drink (and every customer) feel like a main character. Her energy? Immaculate. Her pours? Generous Her vibe? 10/10 - always!! Whether you're a regular or just popping in, Leandra makes you feel like you belong there. Pretty sure half the bar stays coming back just for her. And I fully support that. Do yourself a favor: sit at her section, tip well, and let her magic work

Yelp
Upscale bar food. Everything was quite solid. The burger and hummus were the stars of the show. The burger had unique toppings that had great flavors but the beef patty itself was bland and lacked seasoning. The hummus was some top tier quality. The ceasar was nothing special except they opt to use stale chips instead of croutons which is an interesting choice. What was the biggest letdown was the Nuggs. I had heard such good things about them on socials but we were disappointed. We found that, in majority of our order, the batter had zero flavor and the meat was so dry and chewy. At the bottom of the bowl however we found some Nuggs that had better seasoning and texture. This seems to be a quality control issue that we felt the brunt of. Overall, I would like to come back to try the Nuggs on a better day and to explore more of the menu.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to watch sports! The patio is great & they spray mist during the summer to keep you cool. The indoor area has a giant screen the size of the wall for you and your friends to watch your favorite teams. Their chicken nuggies are a Dallas stable as well. Great brunch deals too. They recently updated their menu & added a bunch of new items. Definitely check it out!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food, atmosphere, and customer service. Maddy was very helpful in her suggestions on items to order and they did not disappoint! The owner/manager was very hospitable and made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend this restaurant ! Also very kid friendly

Yelp
We had the absolute best experience thanks to Maddie! From the moment we sat down, she made us feel completely taken care of--friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind. She struck the perfect balance between being present and giving us space to enjoy our meal, always checking in at just the right time. Not only was she knowledgeable about the menu, but her recommendations were spot-on! You can tell she truly cares about making sure her guests have a great experience. It's rare to come across someone with such a warm, positive energy--Maddie absolutely made our night. If you're lucky enough to have Maddie as your server, you're in excellent hands. We'll definitely be back and will be asking for her again!

Yelp
Mayer's just might be my favorite place in Dallas for a good time. It's a perfect mix of laid-back comfort and high-energy fun that makes it feel like the kind of place you could hang out every day if you're catching up with friends, celebrating, or enjoying a game. The staff here are warm and welcoming, whoever is in charge of hiring does a damn good job! As an avid sports fan, I also value a bar that plays tje games. When I come, TVs are tuned in to what matters, and they make sure the sound is on for the games us Dallasites care about. Moving on to the food, the head chef puts his heart and soul into the recipes and you can tell. It's the kind of food you want in front of you at any time of the on any day of the week. I've spent my birthday, Texas/ou, and had many great spur of the moment hang outs with friends and it only gets better every time I go. I love Mayer's Garden!

Yelp
It's a fun and chill vibe here. Sweet potato fries are a must order. Crispy and sweet. Happy hour is great and pet friendly on the patio

Jack F.

Yelp
The food and ambience was phenomenal. They need to keep the chili dawgs on the menu year round!LeAndra was a phenomenal server, very attentive and prompt.

Alex B.

Yelp
Had the best 4th of July at Mayer's! Maddie was our server and she was incredible! 10/10 experience!!! She was amazing and super fast! She rocks!!!

Yelp
Decided to check out the OU/TX Red River Rivalry here with some friends. Pros: -Good Service considering how busy they were -Big TV and multiple smaller ones to catch the games -Patio area for seating -Food was decent (got the buffalo and honey BBQ nuggies and sweet potato fries) both were yum and tasted like actual good chicken versus the frozen type. Cons: -Not a ton of seating considering they're a football watching bar - Small parking lot (luckily lots of street parking) -Some unnecessarily rude staff at the bar - Small ass bathrooms- there was consistently a line for the men's which is crazy because I've never seen a women's line go by faster.

John S.

Yelp
Maddie was the best server of all time. Was quick and gave us our drinks asap. Give her a promotion she's awesome. #goat

Yelp
I came here for lunch looking for a good salad. I chose their Greek salad with chicken. It was literally floating in herb vinaigrette dressing. Service was great. Next time I'll ask for the dressing on the side

Yelp
Beautiful day to sit out and eat service is quick, bar is quick, kitchen is quick. The food is always delicious and the drinks are perfectly balanced. If your looking for a chill spot to watch sports are enjoy there ALL-DAY HAPPY HOUR on Mondays I'd recommend it 10/10

Yelp
Good food. Club sandwich was made to perfection. Everything was served hot. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We came to watch a very highly anticipated Niners versus Cowboys playoff game. The place was packed. Standing room only. I was told table seating is first come first serve. According to their website, you can make a reservation for parties of 8 or more via email. Needless to say, get there early to secure a table for big events. We did not and so we wound up going elsewhere and then coming back later that evening for food once the crowd dissipated. All in all, Mayer's is a fun and lively sports bar and restaurant. I love the huge TV that everyone can watch in the main dining area. One thing to note - there were two long tables reserved for the owners during the game. Several patrons were allowed to sit there but they were told that they would have to get up at 6pm once the owners arrived. I sat at the other "owners" table and I never received service. The table was being occupied by off-duty restaurant employees. My takeaway - Nix the owners' table concept. Sets a bad precedent and more importantly patrons gain nothing from it. The other party that was allowed to sit at the owners table told me they felt like the people sharing the table with them acted snobby towards them. No bueno. Other than that, really no complaints. 4-stars and best of luck! Hope to come back again next time I'm in Dallas!

Yelp
This is my favorite game day spot! Mayer's Garden has friendly staff, strong drinks, and delicious food with a newly updated menu! I have been here for game days, trivia nights, live music shows, and personal events all with fun memories and great people. My only warning is that it is usually on the louder side so would not recommend if you are looking for a place to chit chat or have long conversation.

Yelp
Spur of the moment. Sunday night 7ish Game night Cowboys vs Colts Parking: I can't say scarce, but it was packed because of the game. We did luck up on a parking spot. Parking is right there in the same lot as the restaurant. First of all, we loved the bartenders. They all took care of us. We'd go back just for them. Surround sound was VERY good. Margarita was pre made but strong. I tasted the tequila. I feel like this would vary day to day. So don't expect the buzz I received. I had 2. My friend had the cherry limeaide (frozen cocktail). It was good. But you Don't taste the liquor. Queso- 3/5. It was expensive for the portion size. Still had chips left. A slight spice, but not seasoned. I would not have to have them again. $13 or $14. 1/2 nachos - my friend ordered. She gives it a 4/5. They have the same cheese and meat as the queso, she says. She'd reorder Cheeseburger ($14). I'm a cheeseburger snob so take this lightly. But i wouldn't have to have it again. 3/5. Season it more. The fry portion was large. I could've split these with someone else. Vive was just right for a game. I would return. Heard their happy hour was a good one

Yelp
Looked like a cool spot. Sign said seat yourself, found a great spot on the patio. Waited for a server to show up. And waited. And waited. Finally a server came by and dropped off one menu, said she'd find another one. Waited some more. Finally a girl came to take our order. We ordered mimosas and chilaquiles. The chilaquiles came fairly quickly -- and they were awful. After we were more than halfway through our food, the mimosas showed up. They were served in rocks glasses, had no bubbles whatsoever. I suspect they were poured 10 minutes before we got them. So after getting the worst chilaquiles and worst mimosas we've ever had, we left. The TV situation looked nice though.

Yelp
Went for trivia night and probably won't be back because it was so loud. It is a very busy place for trivia, we arrived 15 minutes before trivia and got the last table. More and more people came and continued to pack in, it was shoulder to shoulder. The music in the restaurant continued throughout the trivia; it was so loud we could barely think (let alone talk to our table). The service was decent for how busy they were. We ordered the chicken nugs. It comes with two sauces; I wasn't too impressed with their honey mustard and/or AC sauce. The waitress got me some ketchup so all was good! Unfortunately, we weren't looking for a club atmosphere during trivia so we probably won't be back.

Yelp
Came in for a late lunch food and our server Irma was a delight and very helpful. I got the grilled chicken sandwich which was very delicious and the pesto sauce was superb! We will be back. Try the frozen cocktails, the mango Paloma was our favorite
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
The food and mocktail options are amazing! 12/10 recommend ! Service was quick and knew answers to all the questions I had!
google avatar

Yelp
Came in for the 49ers game and got seated on the patio. Plenty TV's and service was incredible for how busy it was..our server was Irma and knew the menu very well..we ended up ordering the deviled eggs, loaded tots and the Texas cheese steak is a MUST. Burgers were 8/10 ..no soggy buns. We will certainly be back for game day
google avatar

Marica M.

Yelp
If you come in a weekend night, prepare to wait or fight for a table. This place gets packed! Food and drinks were good. The music though was fire, great playlist! Patio is cold at night during winter, even with heater lamps.
google avatar

Yelp
Featuring an expansive inside with plenty of comfortable seating and large TVs as well as a wrap around outdoor patio with umbrellas, Mayer's Garden serves as a great neighborhood hangout for good food and refreshing drinks. My spouse and I grabbed appetizers and cocktails before continuing on with our activities for the day. We appreciated the recommendations from our friendly server because everything hit the spot! I highly recommend the elote dip - excellent portion size and the perfect blend of creamy and savory with just a hint of subtle spices. I look forward to going back, especially during football season, to catch the game and eat more amazing food!
google avatar

Izzie P.

Yelp
Went for Tuesday trivia night. Was sooooo fun! Vibes are 11/10. Didn't get any food but the people next to us did and it smelled amazing. Drinks were amazing and so was the server!

Yelp
*Mayers Garden Review* If you want a neighborhood sports bar that's always busy with good food and drinks, look no further than Mayers. Service : 5 of 5. For a sports bar that is always super busy, Mayers has excellent service. The servers are always on top of drinks and the food comes out quickly. It's no wonder this place is a top game day spot on Henderson! Food: 5 of 5. Everything I've ever tried at Mayer's is good. It's a great spot to grab something quick!
google avatar

Abby B.

Yelp
I went for lunch, and while I wouldn't say it's anything crazy special, I did like it. My food was good. Chill atmosphere. Service was a tad bit slow.
google avatar

Allison F.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots! I love coming for trivia, I love the shots and they have great food here! It's a crowded place on game day! I hope they continue to do the pasta specials cause they are really good! Will be back to keep trying new items!

Tim J.

Yelp
We're regulars at Mayers but Caleb took care of us so well that we had to make a post. Caleb made sure all of our needs were met, he was timely in his check-ins with us, and was also friendly and personable. Thanks Caleb for another great experience at Mayers!

Mark C.

Yelp
Food was quite good and quick - excellent service. Beer selection is only average, not enough local brews. It seems that it may be too "Callie" . Trying to watch a game and the sets are all changed over to accommodate the Callie's- they think the world revolves around them. Sadly I saw that tragedy play out in Tennessee too. I will try to find a Texas establishment to spend my time and money.
google avatar

Joanna M.

Yelp
This place is ALWAYS packed on the weekends during football season. My friends went yesterday night in the freezing cold to watch the TCU/Texas game. We managed to get the last table outside. Sadly, they don't have heaters for the outside. Nonetheless, the service was impeccable. I ordered the cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. I would say it was one of the best burgers I've had this year. My boyfriend got the healthier chicken sandwich option which had a delightful pesto. Our waiter, Jacob, was very very friendly and came by to give us a dad joke here and there. He was attentive, quick and very down to earth. I think having him as our waiter made the experience that much better.
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
Service was one of the worst i have seen. Multiple times we had to ask for straws and kept being ignored and given attitude. Food was just low grade street vender food
google avatar

Avery B.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about Mayer's. Food and service is always great but especially tonight, I want to give a huge shout-out to Madi L. behind the bar. Her enthusiasm, quick service, and attention to detail was beyond impressive. Not only did she make excellent suggestions for drinks but also ensured we had everything we needed. Her service was top-notch and greatly appreciated. Can't wait to visit again!!!

Teresa F.

Yelp
Had high hopes of going here today to watch football games. We arrived & were directed to seat ourselves, which we did.. one employee brought water immediately which I thought was a great sign that we were gonna get great service. That's not at all what happened. We were completely ignored. The same waitress that brought our waters came to the table right next to us and took their order. She looked at me twice, which I thought meant that she noticed me and was going to come to take our order. She started to walk away and I waved my hands in the air and she continued walking. The guy at the table next to us even said I'm sorry she didn't see you. The waitress came back to the table next to us and brought their drinks and closed out their ticket, and once again failed to acknowledge me, waving my hands to get her attention. We sat there for 22 minutes until we went to the bar to order our drinks and food. The bartender was amazing and she was nice enough to bring our food order to the table. We were sitting at even though we ordered it at the bar. I'm regretting that I didn't find out her name and report her directly to management. Absolutely unacceptable and unfortunately, we will probably never be back. Also, we just wanted to note that 3 different tables with a total of 8 customers came into your restaurant who waited for a server to order and ended up leaving without getting any food or drinks. 8 more customers that you guys could have tended to and made money from. Unacceptable!!!
google avatar

Josh P.

Yelp
So far, walking in, you are great with an excellent sign of the restaurant's name. It has a very welcoming atmosphere. It is a sports place with many TVs to watch your favorite game. The first thing we ordered was the deviled eggs. They had a pleasant taste to them; I enjoyed them. I also got a cucumber mojito which was just way too sweet. It was good but too sweet for me. I then had the nuggies; they can be tossed in different flavors, but I stuck with regular with a side of honey mustard and sweet potato waffle fries. The nuggets were nice and juicy, and I did enjoy them. The fries were just your typical sweet potato fries, nothing special. The service was good. Our waitress was very tentative. Overall this location is a great place to come and watch a game. The food is nothing too special I would say your typical bar/comfort food flavor was good. Could there be things to be done to elevate, of course? So, if you're looking for someplace to watch games and have some excellent food, try them out.
google avatar

Zeinab H.

Yelp
Went here for Saturday lunch with my family and it was perfect. The music wasn't too loud but just loud enough to drown out the next table. The service was nice and quick and even tho they were packed. They allow dogs which is amazing. I brought my 9month old and he loved it there. The food was delicious too! I didn't try the drinks but it would be nice if they had house lemonades added to the drinks menu.
google avatar

Lindsay L.

Yelp
As a deviled egg aficionado and a Bloody Mary snob, I can say these two pass the muster(d). Otherwise, brunch was underwhelming as far as options (and especially anything healthy but delicious) so I ordered fish tacos. Meh. Better for dinner and drinks on the patio, highly recommend. Seating is limited for a good view of the tv so unless you get here first thing, it's a no go for football season if it's a popular game. However, if you get a seat inside by the big tv...great view! Patio: great Food: good Drinks: mostly expensive but decent Service: hit or miss during brunch, great at night Go for the deviled eggs, get a bloody, hit the patio.
google avatar

Roman G.

Yelp
Great place to watch games, have drinks and get good bar food. Good service, I've been here a few times always sat at the bar which I seem to get more attention. The place has good ambiance for a sports crowd and the nachos, deviled eggs, queso dip and taquitos are all very good. Overall 4 stars
google avatar

Alyssa J.

Yelp
For starters the food is average. It did not WOW me. The drinks were good and the service was amazing!!! Our waitress was super sweet and quick! They have sooo many TVs which is great it just a weird layout how you walk in and everyone is staring at you because the entry is right next to all the TVs. Small on inside but def a better spot when the weather is cooler because lots of outside seating.
google avatar

Caitlyn R.

Yelp
Sports bar with good vibes and great food to start your Friday off right. The restaurant is set up well to be comfortable and chill at one of the booths on the side or to turn up with friends at one of the large high top tables in the back. I ordered the chicken sandwich and my friend ordered the chicken nuggz. The chicken Sammy was grilled and was very fresh and light for a sandwich. The nuggz tasted like CFA which was also a win.
google avatar

Rachel A.

Yelp
Great food, great service! TV's everywhere and it's pretty much always open seating. Inside or outside seats. Patio vibes. Dogs allowed!! They even have dog water bowls for them.

Tanner W.

Yelp
Love coming here for trivia on Tuesdays and games! Hannah is always our server and does a great job!
google avatar

Ebonie Q.

Yelp
This place is walking distance from my house . Tonight I decided to walk over and try the Mayers Burger and Sweet potato fries. The atmosphere on a Tuesday night was very chill , not crowded at all. I really enjoyed my burger and fries. Very tasty !!! I would be back for the burger.
google avatar

Chad H.

Yelp
Great new neighborhood restaurant/ bar! Went today for happy hour to have a few appetizers and some cold adult beverages. We had the pulled pork nachos and the taquitos and they were delicious! The cocktails were great and the draft beer was ice cold! The decor is very chic and the bar is beautiful. Lots of open space and great TVs at every angle as well as a 150" TV in the main dining room. Great patio also with regular tables and also 8-person high top tables for bigger parties. Our server, Alex was awesome, and she was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. One of the owners, Austin was there and he was very hospitable and was talking to everyone that was there. This will definitely become one of my new go-to places to watch football and other sporting events and the new hotspot on Henderson! Cheers guys! Look forward to my next visit!
google avatar

Brianna B.

Yelp
I LOVE Mayer's!! We spend pretty much every weekend here and we always have the best service, food, and drinks! Definitely the best bar on Henderson. Such a great vibe especially on the weekends!

Mckay B.

Yelp
Hannah is wonderful!!!!! She is a wonderful server I highly recommend you ask for her!!!!!
