"At Fillmore Street’s highest peak one can find Mayflower Market, which has a solid selection of fresh produce, meats, and deli foods. Its website promises online ordering but the system was down at publication time, so call 415-346-1700 if you’d prefer to arrange your shopping in advance." - Eve Batey

SerpAPI
Always stopped by to get a couple things, but finally decided to try their deli. Got the sandwich super quickly. Wasn’t expensive for SF standards. Looking at it I was a bit underwhelmed, but after that first bite I changed my mind. It is a cold turkey sandwich. The turkey was not dry, plus had a good amount. There was thin crispy bacon that added a nice crunch and didn’t take away from the essence of the sandwich. Nice fresh slices of tomato, and minimal lettuce. Overall great sandwich that will leave you satisfied.

I've been going here for over 20 years, they make amazing sandwiches and are a great spot to go for quick takeaway lunch in PAC heights. They've got sidewalk seating area which is s somewhat shaded. Great drink selection too

Amer Abunie

SerpAPI
Great store and the family running the place is awesome. Their deli is top notch and they have all the groceries you need including a great ice cream selection.

Mak Klein

SerpAPI
Sandwiches are decent, but the guy at the deli is extremely unprofessional. I called in a sandwich order and arrived 5 minutes after. He was visibly upset I was there “early” saying I need to wait 15 minutes. I’ve ordered while at the store before and it took 5 minutes, this was at 10am so no line of orders either. They also refuse to toast sandwiches (?)

Matthew B

SerpAPI
Great Haribo selection and a good mix of other stuff. Kinda pricey

Conor Mack Alderete

SerpAPI
Beautiful store, amazing sandwiches. Family owned, awesome staff. I wish I could rate Mayflower 10/5 stars! Highly recommend

Mary Ann Warrington

SerpAPI
Great little market. Deli guys are super nasty and seem generally annoyed to make your sandwich

Thomas McLellan

SerpAPI
One of my favorite corner stores to grab lunch in. Their sandwiches never disappoint, hot or cold. Support small businesses and hit up Mayflower if you're in the area.

Yelp
Not much to say except that the Reuben Sandwich I had was in the top tier of Reuben's I've had in my life!! The proportions were perfect, flavors bursting, and textures (even after being carried around for half an hour in a takeout bag) intact. Paired well with the dill pickle chips I bought on the side. It was also made quite quickly. The market itself is very well-organized, abundantly stocked, and light and airy in atmosphere. I'll be back at some point!

Yelp
I asked for Cajun roast beef sandwich as the meat was in the deli display case. The attendant said no so i asked for regular roast beef. I asked if bread could me toasted and the employee said no. I turned around and left.

Yelp
I don't get my groceries from here (too expensive) but often stop by when I want a quick and very reasonably priced sandwich for lunch. Sandwiches at other places have gotten so expensive these days, but the one I happened to get was $10.99 all in, no additional tax, SF health mandate, 20% tip or other extra fees. That is pretty hard to beat in SF. The market is located right next to Alta Plaza Park, so it is super convenient if you need to grab a sandwich before you go you hang out in the park. I usually get the chicken salad sandwich, which they make the chicken salad themselves.

Alena K.

Yelp
Came here Thursday on my lunch break. I got the chicken salad sandwich on Dutch crunch with everything. It came out to $11.49. The sandwich was huge and delicious. I would come back to try the other options. Staff was friendly and helpful. You order at the deli and can shop around until it's ready. Then you pay at the front. The store has lots of drinks and chips options.

Christine V.

Yelp
Please don't make the same mistake that I did and order sandwiches from here. The bread was stale, the sandwich itself was flavorless and dry even though it did have mayo, and they were way overpriced for what they were. I had read the descriptions and they sounded good in writing, but I ended up deeply regretting choosing to go here and trying it out for the first time rather than going to one of the other sandwich offerings within a few blocks radius of here. Service was slow and gruff; the person taking the order is the same person that makes the sandwich, and they ended up getting my partner's sandwich wrong, but we took it and paid for it anyway since we were in a rush. In terms of the market/store itself, they do offer a variety of convenient groceries, but these too were priced way too high.

Jordan G.

Yelp
I used to live right next door. People at the market treat customers like a burden. They are flippant and disrespectful. They seem to have a specific way that you are supposed to order a sandwich and they get angry when someone hesitates. I also feel like their sandwiches are overrated. They are a joke to the community and everyone knows they are mean.

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Good corner market . Well stocked. And as far as I'm concerned they make the best club sandwich in the City. I miss living near this place.

Anna P.

Yelp
Sandwiches are good but not worth the extremely rude employees who work there. the man behind the deli and register both. theyre offensive and i seriously dont get what theyre deal is. be a nice human

Kaiulani M.

Yelp
Dang man. Every single time I come in I have some sort of rude altercation. Whether it's the older man behind the register or the dude's behind the deli counter. So unpleasant, they make me feel like an absolute dumby when I come in just to order a sandwich or just buy something from the store. Sheesh! I'd give 1 star but the sandwiches are consistent and always tasty. But man.. cheer up! Have some pride for your business.

Jack M.

Yelp
This was the best Deli I have ever been to. I came here with my homies looking for a bite to eat and was completely blown away by the atmosphere, workers, and sandwiches. THEY WERE UTTER BEASTS OF SAMMIES. Can't wait to come back!

c h.

Yelp
Now after seeing other people say the same thing about the guy taking the orders behind the deli counter, I agree. He is straight up rude. Told me to read their board next time before I order. It was busy but no one behind me in line. So why can't you just tell me what kind of bread you have and just repeat my order so I dont feel like a fool as I thought perhaps you didn't hear that I wanted to add avocado to my sandwich. My first time here and most likely will not be back. It's too bad the cashier was really nice, so plus 1 star there. Btw, I ordered a tuna melt which wasn't bad...

T. L.

Yelp
I love this store. This review is for RUDE guy working in the deli. I get coffee and groceries several times a week. This morning I I went by and I spilled a little of my coffee. The guy inside the deli counter threw paper towel at me to clean up and said the floor too. Lefty, please speak with this guy, his anger knows no bounds.

Darius S.

Yelp
A great and well stocked mkt. Groceries definitely are not cheap but that's what the neighborhood is. There is great variety for whatever groceries you may need ASAP. Deli sandwiches are great too and thankfully not overpriced. They don't mess around though. Don't come up to the counter unsure of what you want. It's quick grab and go and very well made. They're busy and don't have time for the undecided.

Ruth C.

Yelp
This review is for the deli. I order on the app when I need a quick non-fussy lunch, and it's always ready quickly. Literally grab and go since you pay on the app. It's not "fancy SF" ingredients -- just basic deli meat, tuna, bread, ... -- but it's consistently good, quick and they have a ton of choices. You can customize however you like it. I usually get tuna, sometimes salami. Sourdough roll is my favorite, and whole wheat and sliced sourdough are good too.

Fiona H.

Yelp
Best market in lower pac heights. Amazing service, everything is clean, the deli is.. chefs kiss.. and don't even get me started on the prices compared to others in the area

David K.

Yelp
The guys who make the sandwiches are complete jerks. I really just wanted a sandwich, I didn't need the two guys behind the counter to give me attitude. All I did was ask if the sandwich on the counter was mine and they yelled at me for not asking correctly. I will definitely not be going back. Go to bay subs on Sacramento. Much better sandwiches and friendly service.

gordon g.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time and ordered the Hot Pastrami on sourdough and it was an excellent sandwich, very filling.

Brian P.

Yelp
The wife and I came here for lunch today to grab a sandwich for a park picnic. The gentleman at the deli counter was perfectly nice and the sandwich was quickly made. We shared a club sandwich and it was fantastic! The store itself is small, but has everything you need for a quick dinner. The produce looked fresh and they had a good selection for a small store. We walked a block to Alta Plaza Park and had a wonderful lunch overlooking the bay. Lunch for 2, including a couple of beers, was only $23; not bad in SF. We will definitely go back to explore the deli menu.

Greg W.

Yelp
What a great neighborhood spot. Sure, there are some characters working here at times, but they are exactly what we live in our local spots. Keeps the prima Donas of SF in line.

CJ V.

Yelp
Today was my first (and last) visit to Mayflower. I politely ordered two sandwiches at the deli... and had to deal with an incredibly rude, aggressive employee behind the counter. It eventually turned into a full-blown argument. I pointed out his empty tip jar, and decided to leave the sandwiches. I didn't want any of my money going to this complete asshole. One star for the nice woman at the front counter.

Evan H.

Yelp
Leaving 1 star because the main guy at the deli counter HAS TO GO. Incredibly rude bordering physical confrontation. They either have DEEP resentment for their occupation or the people they serve. It is unacceptable. This has been going on for well over the past 2 years judging by the reviews here and on google and something must be done. I have not spent a single dollar at this store since my confrontation a couple of months back. Previously, I was a regular customer (spending $2-3k+ per year) but now I won't go in the place. The folks at the check out counter are lovely, as is the owner. The selection of the food inside is also great. However, the harassment by the deli staff makes this place untenable. DO SOMETHING.

Doug B.

Yelp
I tried to purchase an item today for $2.49 and they wanted to charge me an extra $0.50 for using my credit card. Charging a customer 20%+ for using a credit card is not market. Particularly during Covid I do not want to be exchanging cash with other people. If anything, the use of credit cards should be encouraged and not discouraged by penalizing the customer.

Sandra G.

Yelp
I came here for a turkey sandwich and it tasted great! The market is very clean and the people working are very professional and friendly. There are a couple of tables outside where somebody can sit and enjoy a meal. It seems to be on a pretty nice corner in a good neighborhood that you don't have to worry about any of the crazy stuff that makes you feel uncomfortable when you're eating :-). I think that I would love to come back here and order another sandwich and beverage and sit at one of their tables.

TJ B.

Yelp
It's insane how rude & disrespectful the deli people are. I'm a genuinely easy going person and hesitated writing this, but then noticed other poor reviews about the deli. I've been going to this market for a few years & have picked up on the complete lack of people skills the men behind the deli have. What a bunch of A-holes... like seriously mayflower WTF. The sandwiches are actually pretty good for the price point, but I warn anyone who needs to deal with these miserable humans. #dobetter

Jami G.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite deli in SF. Prices are not bad!! Being that it's located in the nob hill area. I usually always get a sandwich, chips and bottle of parking water for a little under $10!

Shae T.

Yelp
I completely agree with the other reviewers commenting on the condescending guy behind the deli counter. He was such a jerk that I didn't end up eating the sandwich because I lost my appetite. The guy at the register was rude too. He was completely unresponsive when said hello, I asked for a bag, and said thank you. I'll never return, but no big deal - there are plenty of other wonderful places in the neighborhood that treat their customers with respect.

Ryan P.

Yelp
So incredibly convenient to have in my neighborhood! The other day I got smacked by a long day at work and didn't refrigerate any of my wine so I popped in for a few pre-chilled bottles and some ice cream. A well stocked convenience store is so great when you only need a few items and don't want to deal with the hassle of a proper grocery store. Staff is always pleasant when I stop in. Still have yet to try out the deli, so this review is based solely on the store, but one of these days I will add a sandwich to my grocery run.

Jenny C.

Yelp
My favorite neighborhood market. Huge variety of products with some very random selections mixed in, which are sure to rescue you when you're in a pinch!

Candice V.

Yelp
Owners Lefty, Peter and Angelo run the store. You will find at least one of them there everyday! This market is a great spot to get a good sandwich! Bread is fresh and they use Boar's Head meat!! Love it there! I have tried every special sandwich! For those complaining about customer service especially from the employees behind the deli counter, maybe you should treat them with respect!!! Give them a smile, be friendly, have some manners and say thank you!! Don't act so entitled!!! TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED! Anyway, love love love it there!! I don't ever have problems with them and I know I'm gonna get a bomb ass sandwich every time!!

Karla B.

Yelp
I'd give no stars if it was an option. Never have I ever been so poorly treated and disrespected while trying to make purchase from a business. Eyes rolling, huffing/ mumbling under their breath and ending with profanity/threats of aggression, after calmly bringing to their attention the lack of respect they show for their customers. Truly a horrible experience for me and I will never be coming back.

Melissa M.

Yelp
I don't understand the negative reviews. I've had a great experience across the sandwich counter and with the cash register attendees. Don't act entitled & I'm sure you won't get treated negatively :) love this place

Tony P.

Yelp
I support local businesses but these guys has a very unpleasant attitude towards my coworkers and I expect for the female that works there. Deli workers always seem like they have to act so macho. Maybe it's the color or my skin. Or is my money not green enough, who knows. One day getting hot tea in the morning. I came back couple hours later to refill on the hot water. Older guy (I think is the owner) helped me at the register. I told him just the hot water. He charged me for the full amount of a regular price tea. Told him just for the water. He said yes. Still regular price. Told him no I bought the tea in the morning I just wanted more hot water. He said. Ok $.50. I said jokingly while paying him. "Bout to say, I would of just gotten a new tea". He tossed the money back towards me on the counter and said "here! Take your money. I won't charge you this time but next time I will! I didn't not open this place so people can go in and out to get hot water!" And walked off. Wow. Upset and shocked I was bout the attitude. Told all my coworkers to never go there to shop. All has agreed and has bad experiences with this place. They just lost over 200 customers.

John V.

Yelp
Not Covid aware. Tall grey haired man (obviously a worker) was arranging the produce. His mask was DOWN over his chin and he was taking grapes and putting them in his mouth with his FINGERS. He would then go back to handling the produce and take more grapes, put them in his mouth again with his fingers, and immediately start arranging more produce. He was right in front of the cashier who said nothing. THIS is a FOOD store?

Tami N.

Yelp
I have been shopping at The Mayflower Market for over 20 years. Lived right around the corner on Pacific. I now live in Russian Hill but when I'm in the neighborhood I go there. The owner, tall guy is always nice. However, last night I went in and only a few people were there. There was a young man there at the register with glasses and a young woman (who said she was related to the owner). I bought flowers as a gift and asked for paper to wrap around the plastic. The young woman grabbed butcher paper which was fine and she was friendly and helpful. Meanwhile my husband who has dementia was quietly and patiently waiting. I asked the woman to tell the owner hello, gave her my name she then completely changed her tone and treated me so rudely. All I did was gave her my name and she said "I don't care what your name is"! I was dumbfounded at the rudeness and total attitude. Total disrespect. As much as I like the owner I am so disappointed and feel like never shopping there again. I only come once a month but spend over $40 or $50 on average each time or so but always enjoyed going there but last night about 7:30pm was an absolute negative experience. I left so upset! I really hope that young woman changes her tone. It was TOTALLY uncalled for. Regardless of her being related to the family, especially she should treat EVERYONE the same with respect. I also am a grand daught of a former family owned markets many years ago and I would never act that way. Sorry but I feel the need to vent. Thanks.

Maria S.

Yelp
I love May flower Market their sandwiches are ridiculously delicious not to mention all the products they have. Great smiling cashier makes the store as well

Suany W.

Yelp
This is a small, but not too small corner store that has a little bit of this, a little bit of that. It's probably not going to fulfill all of your grocery and household needs, but it does the job when you're too busy to get any Costco action. There's even a deli section! Similar to most stores that carry food in this area, Mayflower is stocked with a lot of health foods, like California Suncakes. +1 for the super nice man who rang me up last night. Oh yeah, I noticed a lot of stores only carry S. Pellegrino sparkling water. Mayflower has both S. Pellegrino and Perrier, bitches.

Cristian B.

Yelp
The store owner is a complite dissapointment as a person! Not only i been giving this store business for months. He was so rude and yelled at me with profanity telling me to get out of his store, because i was going to park in front of his store to buy at his store. The worst experience i had. He shouldnt be running a bussiness that is customer service related. Im so dissapointed.

J H.

Yelp
Good place to go for a sandwich! This place is usually busy so don't expect 5 star customer service. If those guys behind the deli counter seem really busy it's because they are. They aren't ignoring you, they have a system. Take some orders, make sandwiches, take orders, make sandwiches........ They aren't going to stop in the middle of making a sandwich to rush over an take your order so chill. I see a lot of complaints about the deli guys but I've never had a problem. Act cool and they'll treat you cool. Act like an entitled brat and get treated like a brat. Is it more expensive than a super market? No duh, its a corner store. There is no way they can compete with Safeway so why complain about prices?

Ben M.

Yelp
The main reason Mayflower market has such a great deli is that all of the ingredients are fresh and high quality. I've been coming here for almost a decade and I've never had a so much as even a questionable sandwich. The market itself has a great selection of cheese, soft drinks, beer and chips. A wonderful picnic supply deli.

Whitney H.

Yelp
I've been shopping at mayflower for over 20 years.... best product, family management AND all of the employees are the best. I hope they never close shop ... we love you Mayflower!!!

Thomas D.

Yelp
Great sandwiches. Many choices of bread. I love their Dutch Crunch. Two stars for customer service at the deli where you're ordering those great sandwiches. Why do employees have to act like this???? No eye contact. Less than thrilled to help you. etc etc.

Fatima H.

Yelp
Our go to corner store. Has everything you need, even if you forgot to plan dinner. The deli sandwiches are also delicious.

Andy L.

Yelp
Very average pastrami sourdough sandwich (they ran out of Dutch Crunch) at the deli. Overall seems like a solid store with some decent values for the neighborhood, but the service was lacking and not very friendly. The deli prices are good but I walked out with an unsatisfied feeling, primarily due to the lack of friendliness. I'll try again during the daytime!

Sharon B.

Yelp
This place is up a few blocks from where I work and I swear, the walk is so worth getting a nice deli sandwich there. They have all different kinds of sandwiches you can choose from or customize. They get a star knocked down because they're a bit pricey. They charge $3.49 for a medium bag of Pop Chips! Pop Chips are those rice cake look-a-like thingamajingy and they're so healthy to eat so eating a bag is guilt free! There is a bit of a thing that I fear when I do enter: How many people are waiting to order their sandwich. The funny thing is today, my husband and son met me for lunch and my husband asked how the hell is the line arranged. There is no line, the culture of ordering sandwiches is you just know who's next. People who ordered usually stand off to the side and those who are waiting to order are just there, knowing they're going to be the next one cause they arrived there first. My husband and I walked out with a bag of Pop Chips, two sandwiches, mine turkey with avocado on dutch crunch and his a roast beef sandwich with the whole nine, a big bottle of Smartwater and our total was $17 something. Pricey for a deli, but if you ask me, I'm not surprised given the neighborhood it's in. Sandwiches are yummy and delectable and always more satisfying in your mouth than in your head. One recommendation: Hot chicken cordon bleu sandwich! You won't be disappointed.

Vanessa W.

Yelp
Wow. Definitely don't try eating at the deli if you're gluten free. Or if you expect to be treated with kindness or respect. I have never written a negative review on Yelp until now, but I just had such an unpleasant interaction! No GF bread, no fresh sushi - fine, I'll make do with what they have. I figure I'll order some of the egg salad in the case - but no. "We don't do that." A sandwich without the bread? "No. We don't do that. Next!" It takes a lot to make me angry but they really managed it. So. Rude. Ugh.

Win S.

Yelp
Walked up to deli to order sandwich. 3 people behind counter completely ignored me as I stood there trying to catch their eye. They were walking sideways like snappy crabs so they didn't have to deal with the horrors of facing a customer who really just wanted to buy a sandwich. I left and went to Blue Bottle across the street.

Emily S.

Yelp
I live just down the block and I am here at least once per week to pick up produce for whatever I'm cooking that night. Their avocados are always PERFECT! I never buy them from Trader Joe's or Safeway anymore knowing I can popover to mayflower the same day I need them and they will be good to go that day. I complimented them one day telling them how impressive their produce is and I was told that the owner takes a lot of pride in it and personally picks it out at the produce market daily. It really shows. Honestly their prices are on par (if not cheaper) than Whole Foods and I'd much rather be giving my money to a local business.

Kelly T.

Yelp
Avoid!!! Not worth the horrible customer service with some many great places close by serving deli sandwiches. The guys behind the deli counter could not explain to me why they were unable to make a sandwich and then the other man was very aggressive and in my face. We live in the neighborhood and we will make sure our friends know how they treat customers here. It's really sad, the local market use to a be a place our friends and family used on a regular basis. This is the 2nd time this has happened. So we will not go back until the market decides to hire more professional staff. Went to Mollie Stones and had a wonderful sandwich....

Brian M.

Yelp
A really nice, reliable place to pick up groceries right on Fillmore St. For the convenience, you pay a little bit more for grocery type items, but drinks (alcoholic and not) are cheap and the quality of their handmade sandwiches is great for $6-8. Would definitely recommend for a quick lunch.

Jay S.

Yelp
I hate to do this to my neighborhood market, but this is the truth. I shop in this market at least 2-3 times each week, and to this day not a single employee has attempted to recognize me or acknowledge that I am a frequent customer. Not even a simple "hello" or "good to see you." I'm by no means starving for attention, but come on guys, this is simple. Oh, and don't get sandwiches from the deli. It's mandatory that all sandwiches are served with a slimy slice of attitude, topped with a heap of complacency sauce. It isn't worth it. It's a shame that we can't have a better market in our neighborhood.
