Chef’s Table, Season 6 Episode 1: ‘Mashama Bailey’ Recap | Eater

"A local Savannah restaurant where a plate of deviled crabs dressed in a familiar sauce triggered a revelation for the chef, transporting her back to her grandmother’s kitchen and convincing her that the regional foods she grew up with could form the foundation of a restaurant menu." - Greg Morabito

A Mayflower tractor-trailer. Jack knifed in the road on I 95. North between exit Thirty 7 and I believe it was 42 period if not, it was directly after 42 period the Jack knife thing was probably caused by a tire throwing its complete tread period I was driving 95 North and came upon this accident right after it happened apparently because I did not see that tread called a road alligator and the middle of the Right hand laying in traffic period and I hit it with my front bumper period I didn't realize that there was any damage done until I got home that night when I realized I it had just about knocked my bumper off and it was tracking the ground as well as knocking out my fog lights period when I called Mayflower about it the next day. They claim that there was no vehicle of mayflowers Delivering that day. Even though I saw a mayflower on the container trailer of that tracker. They said that they use g p s to track all of their vehicles and they apparently missed this one. When I called the South carolina highway patrol they said that Yema sue police department had handled the reporting of the incident, We're leaving the highway patrol of reporting it. After two days of calling yemassee, The Sheriff said that they did not take a report on the incident. Because the driver, with a CD l license, did not wish to file an accident report Because apparently There was no damage period well. They did not file anything on the incident. They did not get the driver's name or anything else of that nature and I was told that I was gonna have to cut my losses. Because I only have liability insurance. So now currently, my front fender on my car is being held up by a piece of rope. It's really beautiful. When I called mayflower the operations manager, whoever he was, was very smug and very condescending with me acting like there was no one there. The Reason, they didn't get A report of an incident was because the driver told the sheriff's department not to follow a report if this is actually correct. And I find it hard to believe that there was not an incident report at all reported because of the commercial vehicle involved in the jack knife in the road. I understand that individual private owners of vehicles such as cars, trucks, motorcycles, and such can choose or elect not to follow report, especially if there's only a single car involved. But anyone driving commercially and an incident like this happens, there should be no expectation of not filing any reports simply because these are commercial vehicles. The driver is responsible for the safety of their vehicle. The driver is responsible for the safety of their vehicle. But in some cases such as throwing a tread on a tire, They are unable to see any warning signs of that happen all the time. Treads blow for various reasons.. Of course, I understand that the driver would not want to have that report made. Because he could possibly lose his CDA license because of previous violations.. So to me, it was just a cover up. And they swept it under the rod and did not accept responsibility for their actions. In the small town sheriff's department of yemassee Should understand that they need to file reports on all commercial. Ve hickles, just like any other city does. The good old boy system does not work whenever it comes down to the highway patrol, as well as incidents and involving commercial vehicles.

Hardly any staff available to help with directions. A lot of room to use if needed and there is an air conditioned office during business hours.

Yelp
I too, agree that if I could give them a zero I would. I have had many corporate moves using large national van lines, so when I needed two moves, both locally and at my vacation property in NC as well as longterm storage during a re-build--I sought out a nationally recognized name. Unfortunately, Mayflower locally led me to Nilson Van Lines. While the load and NC move were bad, we had no idea what was in store for us 18 months later when our belongings were finally delivered to our new home in Bluffton. Although we paid for climate controlled storage a significant portion of our belongings, both in boxes, and furniture were covered in mold. A move is stressful enough, and unpacking is hard work. Add to that the need to wash and/or wipe down EVERYTHING! I had to throw away numerous items of clothing, shoes, purse, etc. that were just too far gone. We managed this and didn't complain, however we did have a few large pieces of furniture that were damaged, including a large custom leather sofa that was significantly damaged. We purchased the full value replacement insurance and filed a claim within a week. Now, two months later we still can't get them to respond with a straight answer on when and how the claim will be handled. The owner, when she does respond, is now providing misleading information. We are getting the run around and are not being paid even though we purchased the insurance.

Yelp
Worst moving company so far. The experience was stressful from start to finish. Zero respect to house owners by not following COVID guidelines or Heath protocols. Crew members DID NOT adhere to the CDC guidelines for COVID-19. From introducing themselves without mask to taking their masks off during the whole process (while we had our masks on the whole time). A crew member left for a doctor's appointment during the move and we had to wait for him. I had to ask the household goods packer for an inventory since it wasn't provided and property was already packed. Also, a high value sheet had to be requested since high value items were packed and did not appear on the inventory. Crew members left personal trash and materials on the property. Do not recommend this company.

Yelp
BE AWARE! If you are in the military and ended up with them, PLEASE REQUEST SOMEBODY ELSE OR DO IT YOURSELF. By far the worst in every segment. If they agree to certain numbers of packing days, there would be a lie. If they said, they sent requests for framing, there would be another lie. If they say, your property is NOT going to be in a storage, there would be lie. They do NOT want to help and they will NOT listen to your issues either. Avoid them as much as possible.

Yelp
We have moved across the country a couple of times and we have never had a better experience. Estimate was timely and fair. Crews loading and unloading did excellent jobs. Driver was caring and understanding and coordinated delivery with us. The driver for our vehicle transport communicated well, and we knew exactly where are vehicle was at all time. Most importantly Mayflower had a person that also kept us updated on the progress. Great work.

Yelp
Chose Nilson for move estimate. The estimate was very high so contacted company rep and asked him why a simple queen bed shows a weight of 499 lbs.(as well as listing items that were not being moved by them.). Rep indicated he would lower it (which he did to 481 lbs) but commented to me that it didn't matter what the weight showed that we should pay the full amount estimated (which was based on weight) and that IF it is less weight they will refund the difference. Why even do an inventoried estimate? They might as well given me a price to pay over the phone and IF it ends up different, they would pay us back. They must think we are very stupid as that is not how I do business.

Yelp
We hired Nilson upon the recommendation of Gulfstream's relocation company to pack and move our belongings (4400 square foot house) from Southern Woods to a new home at the Landings. We had to reschedule several times due to delays on our closing and they accommodated us perfectly! Our move out and move back in was accomplished in a blazing 10 hours. Not all of the boxes are unpacked, but so far, not one single bit of damage has been found. Nilson is not the cheapest mover in town, but they were very reasonable when we questioned a bill. I would definitely trust them with a move again.

Yelp
Worst experience we have had as a family who has relocated on several occasions. Company paid for move so we didn't have a tight budget. Quote was high but our focus was on an assurance that our items would arrive with care. Our moving coordinator was Bethany Martin. She didn't coordinate a third party company to pack up the refrigerator and didn't coordinate appropriate mattress or tv boxes. She essentially did little to nothing but did create immense frustration in this move. The movers wound up disassembling the fridge and trying to make boxes for the needed items. Bethany was rude, sarcastic, confrontational and completely denied any responsibility for these items not being planned for a cross country move. Very dismissive. She didn't even know my name and called me by the wrong name. Zero customer care. On arrival the $3000 fridge is completely damaged, the mattress traveled exposed and the damage to our items is in the $thousands. Dents. Nicks. Pieces broken off. Missing legs. Bethany has claimed we refused third party service for our refrigerator....um why would we do that when we're not paying for it and first and foremost we emphasized importance of items arriving in good condition? She also allegedly chastised the driver for telling us upfront about some broken items and rather we should have just discovered it ourselves. We are in the process of starting a claim but in having worked with so many companies over the years we cannot believe this company is allowed to work under the respected Mayflower/United umbrella. That is why we chose them. Completely disgusted. Please look for a more responsible company to handle your items.

Yelp
Nilson moved our 3 bedroom 2 bath large attic and garage with lots of tools during August of this year. We moved from GA to MN and were apprehensive on how our belongings would arrive after seeing the bad review on Yelp. But it was old and newer ones were good. Just want to say I would have given them 5 stars if the packers Joyce and Dimitria would have been a little better. Discovered after they left not all was completed. Thank goodness for our caring compassion driver Tom D who took care of every last minute problem. He protected not only our items but neighbors' property, our road and upon leaving swerved to avoid our island's low hanging live oak branches. The salesman, Rob H; the coordinator, Bethany; and delivery team all deserve kudos. I won't say there weren't a few scuffs on furniture and one tear in a shade, but all in all I would definitely use them again. Top notch company!

Yelp
Used Mayflower to move from Savannah to Tacoma WA. Rob, Bethany and the driver Larry were wonderful. This was my first cross country move, so needless to say I was very anxious. Everybody that I talked with was reassuring and just wonderful. ALL of my stuff arrived on time with NO damage!

Yelp
DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! Hired Nilson to move from Savannah to Metro Detroit. Half of my furniture was damaged - beyond repair, my packed boxes - that did arrive - looked as though they had been run over, and over 50 of my items didn't even make it. According to the driver upon arrival "what did it matter..... I took out insurance...I would get money." I've moved a number of times and never had such a bad experience.

Yelp
WORST moving company I have ever dealt with. I spent 12 years in the Army and eight different duty stations. So I did a lot of moving. The only two bad experiences I ever had was with this company. On my move to Savannah two crates of my household goods just vanished to never be found again. I stayed in Savannah my last two years and when I was medically discharged the Army chose this company again. I said to myself that it will be okay it had to just be the last crew that messed something up. A year later when I want my household goods shipped back to me it has mold on it and can't be shipped. So the Army has paid this company for a year $185.00 a month and I paid for three months myself which totaled $555.00 and my goods have mold growing in it. On the day of the move they didn't even call to let me know. They told me they would be here at 7am. I waited until after lunch to call just to find out (oh yeah we can't ship your stuff because it has mold on it and we don't have any other information other than that). She even finished the conversation with a "have a great day". REALLY!!!!! I STRONGLY ADVISE you to choose another company if you don't want your things lost or damaged.

Yelp
I moved from SC to TN, and this was the first time I used a moving service. I had three companies provide me with estimates. The estimator sat down and explained everything to me, answered questions, and made me feel at ease. These guys were hands-down the best company I had come provide me with an estimate, so it was a no-brainer to go with Mayflower/Nilson Van & Storage. The estimator and the moving coordinator were quick to respond to emails and an absolute pleasure to work with. Everybody involved was very professional. The driver/mover stayed in contact with me throughout the whole process and took into consideration dates that would work best for me to pick-up and deliver. I packed and unpacked my own boxes.I felt like my belongings were handled with care. I received everything in excellent condition. Upon delivery, the guys took time to make sure I had everything and made sure I didn't need help moving things around. I would highly recommend Mayflower/Nilson Van & Storage to anybody!
