I’ve Lived on the French Riviera for 18 Years—This Is the Most Charming Town You Should Visit

"The rooftop restaurant Mayssa Beach is a balcony over the Mediterranean. It's so beautiful that it's become a special occasion spot for many Riviera residents, who often come here to celebrate milestone birthdays and anniversaries. Fortunately, the menu matches the location; the eatery specializes in seafood, particularly local varieties such as rascasse (scorpion fish) and sea bream. Make reservations to snag a seat in the intimate dining room or an alfresco table on the rocks by the water." - Chrissie McClatchie Chrissie McClatchie Chrissie McClatchie writes about travel, wine, and yachting from her home on the Côte d’Azur, where she has lived for nearly two decades. I made a reservation for this restaurant for the first wave of dining in the evening. The rooftop views and surroundings were perfect for the backdrop of the meal. I started with a starter, and for the main dish I had some pasta. The staff were super attentive, prompt, friendly and knew their menu well. The plating was really well done and the pre drinks and wine were spot on. Observing other tables they also gave similar service and great dishes. The little details of locals eating there, the manager coming out and checking, and the table settings made the dining experience a good one. I would highly not hesitate to book again as it was an impressive meal and place to dine. Thank you!

Outstanding lunch with an incredible view! Made a reservation in advance online. When we arrived we were giving a prime oceanfront table and had great service. The calamari entree was tasty and the appetizer salad was refreshing. Would absolutely come back!

We had a delightful evening at Maya’s Beach. The service was top notch. The views were incredible over the bay. The food was some of the best we’ve had on our trip and the desserts were amazing. A great find in Villefranche-sur-Mer.

Outstanding and peaceful experience a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Nice. A great welcome from the owner Excellent table with a beautiful view of the harbour Delicious food and wines Attentive service Definitely worth a detour! Book well ahead for the secret table on the waters edge.

Wow, we enjoyed every aspect of our time at Mayssa! We reserved the private table down by the water in advance and it made for the most incredible experience. The service was AMAZING. So friendly and helpful. The Sole Meunière was one of the best meals I’ve had and my husband also loved his pasta prawn lobster bisque dish. We ended the meal with an Irish coffee and espresso martini that were both also 10/10. I wish we could have dined here every night! We would highly recommend this spot if you’re in Villefranche-Sur-Mer.

Google
Beautiful rooftop experience with excellent food. The service was pleasant, but maybe a bit overstretched as the flow of the dinner was a little inconsistent. (i.e., they wanted our order very quickly, but we ordered in a relaxed fashion, (not all the courses at once) and after the food was served it was a little difficult to have a server stop by, mainly because they were covering too many tables. Not really the server's fault so overall it was a 5 star dinner.

Yelp
Amazing location. Superb view. Menu is excellent but some wines can cost you €7800! No kidding. But the food is incredible. We love the grilled calamari. The lamb breast (poitrine) or belly - actually don't know which is which - is delicious too.

Yelp
This is a very nice restaurant by the waterfront in Nice, France. It is so beautiful to dine in the evening and see the water while looking at all the lights coming from the houses in the mountains. It's a very lovely sight! I took off one star because, just like the city's in Italy and Paris they are working with a skeletal crew who seemed a bit overwhelmed and overworked. Now my beautiful cousin's daughter is studying in Nice and we treated her to a nice meal! We started with some water when we sat down and they brought us some crackers. We ordered appetizers and then they brought some bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar which was cute. Nice has a lot of Italians living there and the influence is in the food. We started off with a salad and a pasta dish with creamy truffle sauce which was divine. For dinner my niece had a beautiful seared medium rare steak that she enjoyed. It came with mashed potatoes and a beef demi glace. I ordered the chicken with beautiful mashed potatoes and morel mushroom sauce. The foodie in me needs to expand my palate because I love mushrooms but those morels were off putting to me but the ratatouille served with it is delicious. My Mum and my sister had the salmon with rice and ratatouille. My sisters salmon was a perfect medium and my Mum's was well done. The salmon tasted very nice. For dessert they had profiteroles with ice cream and chocolate sauce. I've made so many of that corny dessert in Culinary Arts University I just let them enjoy it, lol. You couldn't pay me to eat it but they demolished thr dessert. I had a coke because I had a dry vacation. Not one drop of alcohol in any city in Europe.........in Europe!!! I'm glad I did though. My Mum and my niece had gingerale and my sister had a nice Prosecco. I would come here again and again. For sure!

Yelp
Immaculate views at Le Mayssa. Sea breeze whispers in your ear and rustles your hair while you enjoy a rooftop cocktail overlooking the French Riviera coastline. What else can you ask for? Watermelon, feta, mint salad was a refreshing way to open the pallet. But at the same time, anyone can assemble this dish. Salmon entree = seriously tasty. Don't waste your time on the scallops if it's paired with mashed potatoes. Asian fusion salmon is better, as is the truffle rigatoni pasta. Mayssa incorporates fresh food with unreal views. Good cocktails are rare in France, too, so take advantage! Nothing wrong with espresso martinis, and the passion fruit tequila drink slapped.

Yelp
Great views, great food! Everything was fresh and simple. We had a great time enjoying a bottle of white wine with the sea bass for 2, octopus tentacle, scallops, artichoke salad, truffle pizzet, and scallop crudo. We ended our meal with crème brûlée and profiteroles (one vanilla and one caramel). Profiteroles we're the best from the two. Stand out dishes were scallop crudo, profiteroles and the sea bass. My moms favorite was the sea bass and octopus and scallop crudo. Worth coming for the ambiance alone!

Yelp
The food was wonderful, the ambiance superb and the service was very good. I have the octopus salad for starter along with an ice cold bottle of Chatteau Rasque. This was delicious and beautifully presented on the plate. For my main I had the Iberian pork dish with truffle infused mash and vegetables. Again beautifully presented but also very delicious. For dessert I had the dame Blanche and an expresso The location was perfect a crisp sunny December day on a rooftop picturesque scene overlooking the Mediterranean The price was not cheap but was worth it for the food and the location

Yelp
I went to dinner here in this restaurant and so far the view had the sea, it was alright. We dined at the lower balcony area. The staff is really friendly. For our starters we had ordered the calamari. It was quite delicious. Loved the texture and would defiantly recommend it. Then we had some scallops. They were really good and had the perfect texture. And also we had the fish O crab and it absolutely astounding! I loved it so much. The way it was in my mouth was really smooth. The presentation was really good, over all I would give the appetizers an 8/10. We had some excellent dry white wine as well. We absolutely loved it, would give it a 8/10. For the main course, I had ordered the beef fillet. To be honest it was one of the worst steaks I've ever had! The presentation was average, There was no seasoning really although the vegetables did make the dish a bit more bright and the steak was burned so I didn't really enjoy it, i would give it a 5/10. My parents had ordered the sea brim fish for two and I had a little taste and it really good. They agreed as well that it was delicious. Really buttery, smooth and a very good clean of the bones. The presentation was really good, overall the fish would be a 9/10. For dessert, we had the " Dame blanche" and it was splendid! It was amazing! We also had the "creme brulee" and " profiteroles chocola" it was really good. Over all the desserts were a 9/10 absolutely loved it. The one thing I would improve would be the lower balcony area. The place is very crowed with too many tables. Everyone is really close to each other that people talk loudly and can't even have your own conversation. The pricing of the restaurant was kind of over reacted. I mean the bill was €300! The dinner was quiet alright.

Yelp
VERY NICE ! The cook of the restaurant has changed 1 year ago and everything has changed ! It is definitely opposite of what it used to be. Now it is really good and the area is beautiful. Card with menu at 28E, 40E and 58E (my advice is the last one which is gorgeous) and the wine card is very nice with a very good selection. The menus are innovative and the presentation of the plates is nice. There is a terrasse just up to the see, very calm. The only thing is that it is a bit hard to find as we have to leave the main road to get it. I really recommend it for a romantic dinner or just a great time with good food.

Yelp
Good fresh food, creative menu, pleasant and accommodating staff and the view overlooking the bay is a plus!
