The 12 Best Restaurants In Downtown Houston

"If you go to the tunnels for lunch, it’s best to have a specific destination in mind. We usually land at Mayuri Express, an Indian restaurant with speedy service. Meals here are packed into styrofoam trays, assembly-line style and around the cafeteria you’ll see people tearing into steaming veggie samosas and hoveling butter chicken and lamb biryani by the forkful. Swing by Mayuri express for a quick lunch downtown, and be sure to grab some extra naan bread. " - gianni greene, chelsea thomas

Excellent and tasty food, the plate filled out full rice when you ordered biryani, it's very hot and spicy

This Mayuri is located within the Tunnels and I have only went here during lunch hour and all though the line is always long, the service is quick! This may be due to their portion sizes and great lunch specials. My go-to choice is the Chicken Biryani and my wife’s is the paneer curry 🍛 both are tasty and filling. Only complaint I would have is that they’re always out of Chicken 65, but I’m also at fault for only asking during rush lunch hour. Pricing is on point and there is adequate seating to grub.

I used this restaurant for a corporate lunch on two separate occasions in February. They failed to inform me in advance that they do not deliver directly to office suites, requiring me to pick up multiple large, hot containers from the dock/street instead. If delivery is not truly available, it should not be advertised as an option. Additionally, I requested an itemized receipt multiple times via email, phone, and text for compliance purposes, but received no response. Their lack of customer service and communication is unacceptable. Given this experience, I will not be using their services again and have advised others to do the same.

This place was a very happy find in the tunnels, and definitely worth the hike from my office. I got the chicken chili dosa, having never had a dosa before. It was delicious, and I really like that it was made to order. The chicken itself wasn't amazeballs, but it was very tasty and the sauces it came with were incredibly flavorful and complemented the chicken wonderfully. I would definitely go back.

Dosas are light and crispy, with a lovely slightly sour, savory taste. The chutneys are amazing. I prefer the dhaba chicken to either the butter chicken or chicken tikka masala. The goat curry is great, too. Chicken 65 has just the right amount of spice. The biryani is excellent: many a skeptic has been won over. The place is slammed by 1130, and rightfully so. Don't give up hope, though: the line moves fast.

Good goat curry but so many bones! Also dosa had way too much onion.

I love this place and eat here almost daily during the week. As a resident of downtown Houston, I really like this place because it reminds me of those Mexican kitchens where they would make homemade tortillas, except in this case its fresh baked nan bread. They always change their daily servings and especially love their goat curry. I bet if they branded it as "Cabrito Curry," it would be a Houston hit in an instant. Please keep up the great work. I love your food!
