On the side of the building it says: Best Turkish Food.
If I've learned anything in all my many visits to Las Vegas, it's that Advertising Signs Never Lie.
Lying is not allowed in this city. If the sign says Best Turkish Food, it IS the best, period. There is no exaggeration in Las Vegas, no hyperbole. None. The city is built on honesty and square dealing. And the good people of Las Vegas insist on truth in advertising; the highest standards are rigorously enforced.
So when I saw this place had the best Turkish Food, I was like, dang, I rarely get the chance to eat Turkish food, and this place has the best! I need to check this joint out. Just like that, I pulled into the parking lot. And a few moments later I'm seated and checking out the menu.
It was early for dinner, like around 5 pm. and there weren't many people in the restaurant, maybe like three tables. I was seated near the bar.
I had a hunch they would have lamb on the menu, and I wasn't disappointed. There were several lamb dishes to choose from. I narrowed it down to the lamb kebabs or the lamb shank. I asked the waiter for his advice.
The waiter said, "the kebabs are just kebabs, but the shank...." he drew out that last word, "the shannnnkk is special." I nodded and said, yes, the shank please!
He wasn't lying, that shank was special. Roasted to perfection. Succulent. So moist, so tender. Served on platter with...
With what? With I don't know. I mean, it must have come with something, right? It came with bread, but that's all I remember. I don't remember if there was rice or a salad.
OK, I had been drinking since half past noon, but I wasn't drunk. I remember everything else about the visit, but I don't remember any sides. I took photos, but all I have is the shank and the bread. Plenty pictures from outside and inside, but no salad, no rice. Weird.
I just checked the menu. The lamb shank is featured on the page that says From The Grill. The description under the page heading says all kebabs come with rice and salad. All the other items on the page are kebabs. The lamb shank isn't a kebab, of course, but the photo of the dish shows it served with rice and salad.
So I don't know. Maybe there were some rice and salad, maybe there wasn't. If they weren't served, I didn't miss them at the time. Some rice would've been nice, I suppose, but I don't have much use for salad. I was all about that shank.
After the waiter dropped off my entree, he disappeared. Didn't see him again until I was finished with my meal. That kinda irritated me because I seriously needed a beer. I was so excited when I saw the lamb, I forgot to order a beer when I had the chance. I never expected that was the last time I would see the waiter until the meal was over. But it was. And that's why this place got a lowly 4 star rating from me.
But I'm all about Second Chances. And I'm all about Lamb. So I will definitely be back to get me another shank. And I'm going to get to the bottom of the mystery rice and salad.
