Mazál Bagels & Cafe - Review - Chamberí - Madrid - The Infatuation

"Getting a bagel in Madrid wasn’t really a thing until Mazál arrived a few years back, opened by an American determined to bring the Jewish staple to the city. Mazál’s New York-style bagels are textbook perfection (close your eyes, and you’ll be in Brooklyn), hand-rolled, cold-fermented, boiled, and baked daily. You can get them on their own, with spreads, or as sandwiches stuffed full of pastrami, eggs, or spicy buffalo chicken. The restaurant has evolved to also include sides like fresh fries or coleslaw, and other “breakfast” items all day long (think French toast or pancakes), even for an early dinner (they close 8:30pm or 10pm, depending on the day). And if you’re spending Shabbat in Madrid, you can also pick up rich, pillowy challah. There’s a new location in Opera, but the Chamberí one is less hectic and not mobbed by study abroad students using their outdoor voices indoors." - Lori Zaino

Google
After moving to Madrid I wanted to find a good bagel as it's one of my favourite meals. Mazál Bagels is around the corner from me and is absolutely amazing. Their coffee is delicious and are a great size. The bagels were absolutely delicious, I tried the a special chicken bagel offer which was so good and my parents had the scrambled egg bagels which were also divine. This has become my new favourite spot in Chamberi and I now regularly grab a coffee and bagel on the weekends. Would highly recommend as a must try in Madrid and the atmosphere is energetic and gives an old school vibe inside!

If you’re craving authentic, fresh, perfectly chewy bagels in Madrid, Mazal Bagels is the place. The bagels are simply the best in town golden on the outside, soft inside, and packed with flavor. Every bite tastes like it was made with care and passion. The attention from the staff is top-notch too warm, attentive, and genuinely happy to make your experience great. Whether you go for a classic lox bagel, a creative special, or just a coffee and plain bagel, you’ll leave smiling. 100 % recommend

Amazing bagels! We ate here 2 days in a row. Great service. Had a proper iced latte! Everything was great. Only downside is service can be a bit slow. Food takes time to come out. Plan accordingly. Otherwise everything was great!!

Google
We had a wonderful breakfast as a family of 5. The dishes were beautifully presented and truly gourmet — you could taste the care and quality in every bite. The coffee was fantastic, perfectly brewed and rich. The store was also very clean, which made the whole experience even better. We all enjoyed the warm, welcoming atmosphere, and the staff made us feel right at home. We’d love to come back and explore more of the delicious menu

We were so happy to find a bagel spot during our holiday in Madrid! Came to Mazal Bagels after seeing all the great reviews and it totally lived up to the hype. 😍 Ever since our New York trip, we’ve been missing proper bagels, and these were amazing. We had the cream cheese & jelly and the avocado & egg, both were fresh, delicious, and hit the spot. Highly recommended if you’re craving a real bagel in Madrid!

If you love bagels, love good breakfast/brunch, or just want a café that treats its food with care, Mazál Bagels & Café is a gem in Chamberí. It delivers on taste, creativity, and warmth, with only a few hiccups when it’s crowded. Highly recommended for locals and visitors alike who want more than just “coffee & toast.

Yelp
A great little bagel place in a diner-like atmosphere. Perfect for a midafternoon snack or breakfast. Accommodating for English speakers and great service. Bagels sell out early, so luckily we were able to snag the last jalapeno cheese bagel.

Yelp
Ordered 5 bagel sandwiches for pickup. Apparently they use whatever bagels they want. I got stuck with a lox on a plain bagel which was tasteless. Beware place order with desired bagel type. Who ever had a lox on a plain bagel. Common sense should prevail.

Yelp
Food was absolutely amazing! Best bagels in Madrid! Tried a bit of everything! I had a Garden Bagel with salmon, a pickle, loaded fries and a cinnamon latte. Fair prices, but a little bit of a wait for food on a Sunday afternoon. They did mix up our bagels, but we didn't mind. We will be back very soon!

Yelp
Best toasted bagels! I had the queso and my kid had the garlic and herb, had both toasted with cream cheese. Paired with a latte, delicious start to a touristy day!

Yelp
Great bagels, friendly service, great place to eat and hang out. One of the only places in Madrid with New York/East Coast USA Style bagels. They are delicious, unique, and attract all of the expats in Madrid. I believe they changed locations and expanded their property, but at the times I went a couple years ago, it was just a small location with little seating. More often than not we had to take it to-go. Again, because it was decently popular but because of size there was only one person taking orders, so they could really benefit from expanding their operations if they haven't already. The competition for these bagels in Madrid is zero to none. As more expats are moving to Madrid I wouldn't be surprised if other restaurants that cater to niche American style foods started to pop up, if they haven't already.

Yelp
I visited the first time a few weeks ago when they had first opened; the line wasn't super long, but after 30 minutes waiting, we decided to try somewhere else and check back once things got more streamlined. Today, we arrived, ordered a quickly, and had our food within 10 minutes. Definitely an improvement! We both tried an everything bagel with cream cheese (and red onion on mine); we also got a mimosa and a cortado. The bagels were delicious-- recently warmed, and the everything seasoning was the perfect mix of salty and garlicky and crunchy. I love that the cream cheese they give you is super generous; I'm always that person in the US that has to go back and ask for more cream cheese. They're definitely still working out the kinks of taking orders, getting them ready, and getting people in and out, but considering the popularity of the restaurant within just a month of opening, they're managing the chaos pretty well. For now, my best advice is to arrive early to avoid long waits or sold out bagels!

Yelp
Best bagels anywhere. Innovative menu with tasty food beautifully presented by an attentive and friendly staff in a bright, clean setting with a youthful vibe. Terrific, decadent desserts and really good coffee. The savory pancakes and the pastrami are both remarkable and prices are reasonable. I will definitely return.

Yelp
Delicious bagels and excellent customer service! There does tend to be a line so it's best to come early or plan extra time.

Yelp
This hidden gem in Chamberi district is super cozy and their bagels are extremely tasty. They hand roll them, leave them ferment for a while, then boil them and lastly they bake them. I ordered an everything spice bagel (garlic + onion + several seeds) with cheese cream, orange juice (comes with bites) and a coffee and everything was superb! Unfortunately, the first time we went to Mazal we spent about 30 minutes in the line and had to leave because it was not moving at all, but I think it was because they're getting use to it as they just opened the place. The second time I went there, about a week after, we only had one person ahead of us and we could even seat at the bar. Bear in mind that there's little space to seat, so be prepared to order for take away if it's too cramped. Overall, it's a great experience and I'll be back for sure. They speak Spanish and English too!
