Vegetarian Israeli restaurant with flavorful shareable plates

"Mazal flies under the radar in Lincoln Heights, which is exactly why we love it as a casual dinner hang. This vegetarian Israeli restaurant has an alleyway patio decorated with string lights, awnings, and patterned concrete walls. There’s even an old, tattered basketball hoop hanging in the back—which is, unfortunately, decorative only. But Mazal has more to offer than just a fun space. We love their smoky babaganoush and flaky bourekas, which come filled with potato, feta, or a pesto and olive mix. Everything is sharable and under $20, meaning even with a few glasses of wine, you probably won’t be stress-checking your bank account after dinner." - brant cox, sylvio martins, garrett snyder
"You know a meal is a success at Mazal when every inch of your table is filled with some sort of dip, salad, or warm pita. People will be ripping and tearing, dipping and dunking, and sharing bottles of natural wine. Feta-stuffed bourekas and smoky babaganoush fight for space amongst big bowls of couscous and cheese bourekas. Food comes out fast at this vegetarian Israeli spot in Lincoln Heights, but don’t be surprised when you look at your phone and hours have passed. Mazal’s warm, string-lit alleyway patio—and a never-ending parade of excellent mezze—has a way of extending any group hangout session." - sylvio martins, brant cox
"Mazal opened only in November 2020, but has quickly become one of our favorite casual dinner spots on the Eastside. This completely vegetarian Israeli restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, but we love their alleyway patio adorned with string lights, awnings, and patterned concrete walls. That said, Mazal is more than just a cute space - the food is excellent too. We love their smoky babaganoush and flakey bourekas, which comes filled with potato, feta, or pesto/olive mix. Everything is sharable and under $20, meaning even with a few glasses of wine, you and your friend can walk out at around $40 a head." - brant cox
"Mazal is an excellent Israeli restaurant in Lincoln Heights with a long side patio that feels like you’re eating dinner on a friend's back patio. There certainly will be other people there, but even when it’s full (which is often), the whole space has a calm serenity to it that’ll make you relaxed and ready for another bottle of wine and some more babaganoush." - brant cox
"The first time we ate at Mazal we were reminded why eating dinner with great company is so much better than just eating dinner. This was the restaurant where we came out of our pandemic shell - all while surrounded by friends, fantastic food, and a general air of camaraderie. In proceeding visits, our fondness for this entirely vegetarian Israeli restaurant in Lincoln Heights has only grown. You know a meal is a success at Mazal when, at some point, every inch of your table is filled with some sort of dip, salad, and basket of piping hot pita bread. Everyone in your party will be ripping and tearing, dipping and dunking, and ordering bottle after bottle of natural wine. And when you look around at all the other tables on the string-lit alleyway patio, you’ll notice they’re all doing the exact same thing." - brant cox, kat hong, arden shore
