I read through all the reviews and was shocked by the fact that there were some bad reviews. I understand we all have different experiences, and for those that have not experienced anything but a nice time, I’m sorry. Hotel/rooms- all rooms are suites, and a few have a patio. We have stayed in both options, and we only prefer the patio in the spring. It’s spacious and relaxing. The rooms without a patio are just as nice, feel a bit smaller, but laid out nicely. The decor was referred by someone as “dated”. As a designer, I do not 100% agree. They are located in Payson, a lot of pines, and mountains. I feel they are going for the woodland, cabin core decor while using a hospitality furniture line. The furniture is in great shape, not worn. The cleanliness is superb. We stay in a lot of luxury hotels, and even luxury hotels have lacked in cleanliness, which is a shame. The water pressure is AMAZING!! My husband and I joke about being excited to shower when arriving, it’s that good.
Staff: Security was another issue I read in the reviews. My husband and I are 50, so we have never been carded. We have never been followed or harassed. We follow the rules. No outside beverages, and there is a reason! They have restaurants and vending machines, so you won’t die of thirst. The front desk people have always been competent and kind. They are to the point and do their jobs.
Restaurant: We have only been to the Grill, and it was OUTSTANDING!! My husband had a steak sandwich and the steak was impressive!! I had a hot ham and cheese sandwich, simple, but out of this world. The two men working were extremely friendly. I cannot speak for the other dining option or bar.
Casino: Yes, the casino is dark. A lot are. I did not find it “dingy” I found it to be the environment of that of a casino. Yes, they allow smoking. My husband and I do not smoke, but we enjoy gambling, and we don’t allow it to ruin our time, and we shower after and throw our clothes in our laundry bag. I have never seen it “dirty”. I actually have seen the staff walk around consistently collecting glasses, trash, and emptying ashtrays.
The slots have always worked when we are there, no down machines. With that said, we visit Vegas and a lot of casinos, you will never find a casino that doesn’t have slots that aren’t down! Call a slot tech or find another game. I read some reviews saying the machines are “tight” and a lot of dead spins. I’m sorry, but that made me laugh! If you think dead spins and not getting a feature every time isn’t normal, you probably shouldn’t be gambling! It’s part of the game. It’s called gambling for a reason. With that said, we’ve had good luck overall. But, if we get on a machine and we are 20 spins in with no good kick backs, we simply move on. If we get a good win, we cash out.
Mazatzal hotel and casino is one of our favorite places to stop while traveling. We will continue being customers!
