I played here on June 29th. I got a red flag from someone in the DJ community that they knew someone who played here, and did not get paid. I was hired by a promoter, and she assured me she was getting paid, so I played.
The arrangement was that the promoter would be paid, and she would pay me. She did several events for them before me, and they paid her partially, but never got caught up to the payment for my event. I got involved to try and get the promoter paid, since she's a friend, and got stringed along every time I contacted one of the principals. I will leave the names out of this for now. It was always "tomorrow," "a check will be ready next Monday," "this other person will pay," "this other person will Zelle you tomorrow," "take this extra step (and still not get paid)."
If these people would have been honest from the get go, I would have been more forgiving. They worked with other people I know, and paid them for work done later. Why? Educated guess: they were done working with the promoter that hired me, so she was deprioritized for payment.
Oh, by the way, MONTHS LATER, the main guy who strung me along OUT OF THE BLUE said that the promoter failed to fully perform, and was not owed the full amount due. Anyway, he continually agreed that the amount due for my night was owed, and agreed to pay me directly, but, NEVER PAID.
I spent way more time and effort trying to get them to pay what they promised than the time was worth, sadly. Now I performed free labor for them, and wasted a ton of additional time and energy.
Heed red flags, folks!
