The Best Restaurants in the Laurentian Mountains, Quebec | Eater Montreal

"Fondue in the country just makes good sense. Head to this Val-Morin institution for cheesy, belly-warming goodness in a Swiss-style setting that hasn’t changed since they first opened in 1963. Chocolate fondue to finish is a must." - Ashley Joseph

Authentic Swiss. My favorite onion soup ever. Amazing raclette and very good fondue. Nice authentic atmosphere and good friendly service that can be a tad slow. It can be heavy food some come hungry.

Table d’hôte was limited & wine list very underwhelming. Although, staff was friendly, cheese fondue was good, meats and sauces were tasty. (Onion soup was a hard pass for me.)

Awesome food and service. Be there early to beat the crowds.

If you want to try authentic fondue, I would highly recommend this restaurant. We were 2 couples on a Saturday night who tried the traditional and a stronger flavour of their cheese fondue, the Chinese as well as the oil with beef fondue. Their onion soup was definitely one of the best we have tasted. The owner takes great pride in their food and offered good suggestions. Their service was very attentive. I would recommend reservations to this quaint little place, tucked into the side of a mountain.

One of the best dining experiences my family has ever had. The food was amazing and service was perfect, especially compared to how fast-paced some restaurants can be today. The owners were extremely warm and friendly! We loved getting to know them and heard some hilarious stories. Definitely get the chocolate fondue for dessert - it was to die for!

Chinese Fondue was good. Wild mushrooms are not "sauvage" but rather white mushrooms but still delicious when fried. Mayonnaise sauces were great. Service friendly but slow on a Saturday night and somewhat disorganized. Not bad experience but neither was it outstanding.

One of the best fondue restaurants in Canada. Not to mention one of the first!

I decided to bring my family during March break to this iconic Fondue restaurant that my wife and I went to over 20 years ago. We had reserved the Wednesday evening as their website indicated that they had a 17$ special on the Bourguignone fondue. At our arrival we thought that the restaurant was closed since the poorly lit parking lot was empty and my wife and kids where struggling in getting the door opened. Once inside the restaurant, I quickly realized that this place had not changed a single bit in over 20 years! Same old decor, outdated decorations and the smell of a stingy old oil that filled the air. The waitress was not pleasant and somewhat rude throughout our dining experience. She quickly told us that the Wednesday night special was not valid because it was March break (What??!). I did not want to make a scene with the family so we decided to go "a la carte". My wife and I took the Filet Mignon "Table D'Hote" which included the apetizer, desert & Coffee while my 2 kids took the Beef a Filet fondue only. The place started to pack up which started to effect our service levels as our waitress was the only person on the floor. We where coldly told that we could not have a small cheeze fondue for our apetizer which was not part of the Table d'Hote? and decided to have the raclette, and yes where coldly reminded that this was available for an additional fee! Did I tell you that we where freezing in this restaurant? We had an elderly person in the group behind us that was constantly complaining on how cold it was! My wife and I finally received our bubbling hot raclette cheeze that was served in (get this) COLD plates - guess what happened? The cheeze firmed up and instead of having delicious oozing raclette cheese we where using our knives to cut through the firmed up cheese. Our fondue finally arrived and to my surprise the oil in the fondue pot was COLD! the waitress finally came back with a small hot oil pot that we had to share for all four of us - the issue we had was that the oil temp would drop once we had all our meat in the pot - beef would tend to boil in the oil instead of properly cooking. We should have been served 2 fondue pots given their sizes. On to the desert! I inquired about the chocolate fondue and was quickly told that it was not (you guessed it!) in the Table d'Hôte! (I was asking myself if this a Fondue restaurant or what?) Ordered the chocolate fondue for my 2 kids and I took the Apple pie "A la mode" which was served COLD. When we where all set & done to total bill came to a whopping 275$ which included the tip and a low priced bottle of wine for a family of 2 adilts and 2 kids. The highlight of the evening was our Beef Filet fondue which we all enjoyed. Unfortunately the service where below par and our waitress NEVER came to our table throughput the meal to check-in with us if all was fine. Anf get this - our waitress was to owner of the restaurant! Wow, what a surprise. I will certainly not set foot in this place for at least another 20 years - this restaurant needs a major makeover and must fix their service levels pr they will go out of business very soon. My suggestion - steer clear from this restaurant and find another restaurant in the sourrinding area.

Yelp
I only had fondue/"Chinese" fondue at family dinners, and I had no idea what to expect from a restaurant. We came here after a weekend of canoe camping, so we were starving for some good homemade meals. At first I was put off by the prices. I thought it was a bit expensive for a plate of meat and a few sauces. I was also sadden by the fact that they didn't have any of their mushroom plates left. We started off with the escargot and onion soup. They were probably the best I've had so far! The main course arrived, and I thought, "this is just a plate of chunks of meat". But once I cooked it and dipped it in the sauce, it was amazing! We both had the oil fondue (forgot the name of this), one with paprika pork and one with breaded beef. The breaded beef was my favourite, and the sauces complimented the meats very well. Overall an amazing place, but because it's pricey we probably won't go every time we're in the area. It's definitely a treat once in a while though.

Yelp
Start to finish we had the perfect evening at Restaurant au Mazot Suisse! Friendly service, exceptional food, and great prices. We'll be back!

Yelp
Very nice little fondue place in Val Morin. Tried their mixed mushroom fondue and it was amazingly flavourful, I so want to go back soon and eat it again...though the saffron and onion one sounds good too. My husband had the raclette and loved every bite. For sure worth a visit if you find yourself around these parts & crave cheesy things.

Yelp
Great service and fantastic food! One of the best Suisse restaurants I have ever been. Best place to have a delicious raclette! Cheese is melted in front of a fire, and then scraped onto our plates, the old-fashioned way. Suisse fondue was also great. My friends and I drove from Montreal to Val-Morin just to have dinner and it was absolutely worthy!
