We went to Mazzi's in Eugene three times recently with friends, a Saturday, a Monday, and a Friday. On all occasions the food was pretty good and not overpriced. On our first visit, the service was excellent. Our server checked on us regularly, and even though somewhat busy there was no rush whatsoever. We even asked if she needed our table at one point, and she told us to stay as long as we liked. She earned and received a very nice tip. The next visit gave us a male server who seemed to have a chip on his shoulder - an air of odd snobbery. We treated him with utmost kindness in spite of the rather cold treatment, along with an average tip. Our last visit delivered the same chap again. Similar attitude. Since there were many empty tables, we did not feel as though we were imposing by staying somewhat longer than normal. Unfortunately, with no apology at all, and with rather unpolished and surprising rudeness, this chap told us that he needed our table and that we had to leave. We are polite, quiet people, so with no fuss, we paid our bill, included a tip, and departed feeling negative about Mazzi's. I'm not sure we will return, as we still carry around unhappiness about the treatment. With so much competition in the area, why would Mazzi's permit an employee to behave so? I can't tell you how many times this treatment has already come up in discussions with our circle of friends, family and co-workers. We are known to dine out often, so we are often asked, "Where did you go? How was it?"
