A little hit & miss, but we're determined to try more things here!
We have ordered twice, once just a quick bite of popcorn shrimp, and the second time a full meal: salt & pepper calamari, chicken/sausage gumbo, and mac & cheese with grilled chicken.
First the misses -- so far we've been unimpressed with the fried seafood, which is a bummer! I don't know if it's the sourcing, the storage, or the frying, but both items were not super flavorful and the seafood itself didn't really do it for us. Especially the calamari, whose tentacles were HARD. Like, almost unchewable. It's entirely possible they are still getting their sea legs (harhar) with new staff and equipment, so I'm not discounting these items forever, but might wait a bit before we re-try them.
The gumbo was quite good, the roux could maybe go up a notch with a deeper layer of flavor -- some smokiness would be very welcome -- but overall and esp with the spicy andouille, it was tasty and we'd order it again.
The standout so far is the mac/grilled chicken! The mac is fantastically old school -- unlike so many Portland spots they haven't forgotten the "n cheese" part of mac n cheese -- it tastes like CHEESE, not creamy béchamel. The grilled chicken had flavor and tenderness and was so so good with the mac. We will for sure be ordering this again (and again)!
