Good, beautiful, breathtaking views and place. Awesome ambience honestly. Great people, relaxed vibes, plenty to entertain kids and adults. Perfect little pocket space with amazing scenery and surroundings. Attractions nearby absolutely 💯 👌. Love it. Rooms are ok. Too many things in the way tp bump into, even for a short person, worse for the tallies. Antiquated look and considerate of family set up. Staff is amazing and accommodating, the hospitality overall was pleasant. Information available at your fingertips to set up an itinerary for your stay there, in a well prepared booklet in the rooms. This was such a beautiful destination and lodge but so old and run down it looks like it hasn't been upgraded in 20 years. From the couches to the beds to the kitchen everything is falling apart and even smells old. The self-catering unit is not great at all and really not worth the trek there. We made do and absolutely loved the location and the hikes but seriously please upgrade this place so we can enjoy it more! Staff were friendly and welcoming

Our group stayed here for the third night of our four-day expedition along the Pondo Trail. The other three nights were spent in tented camps. We preferred the camps. Everything about Mboyti River Lodge is rather weird. The grounds are very nice. The place seems over-sized. Perhaps it fills up during high season, though it is hard to picture that. Our small group constituted the only ones there. Over lunch, I was the sole person there in a restaurant set for well over a hundred. As I said, weird. The rooms themselves are...meh. They are okay, just nothing special. Ours was crying out for an update. Or just some basic maintenance. As for the restaurant food, again...meh. Unappetizing and marginal, at best. The whole thing also feels like a throwback to the Afrikaner era with a strange, elderly, couple of Whites running the place and all of the work being done by Black Africans. Weird. There are not many choices for accommodations in the vicinity. But everything about this place is underwhelming.

I had a terrible experience with the manager of Mbotyi river lodge, his name is Alex he is very rude and he undermines his clients. We didn’t enjoy our stay although we paid more that 10k just for accommodation we got the the venue was dirty no security we were just on our ow, toilets had no dustbins,no toilet paper.but he had the audacity to want to chase us out because of a misunderstanding.

We visited 2-3 August 2025. We drove in with a Hyundai I20 from Durban and made it to the lodge. Take it slow on the gravel road and you will be fine when it is dry. The Lodge is safe, the drive in was safe and we never felt un safe at any point. The area is clean with a low population and un spoilt Wild Coast coastline all around. The matress and bedding were in great condition and clean. I would recommend if you want to chill in nature and wind down. Thanks Mbotyi Lodge and staff.

Best family holiday we've had on the Wold Coast! Stayed for 7 nights and wish we could have stayed another 7! Brad, Alex and their team are warm, friendly and willing to bend over backwards for their guests. Accommodation is basic but clean and comfortable. Food is great and plentiful. Every day offered something new and we cannot wait to go back. If you love adventure and the outdoors don't miss it.

Such beautiful location with stunning scenery with so many waterfalls to see . Beaches were magnificent with good swimming and walking & really great hikes. Alex and his team went out of their way to make our stay really memorable. New years bash had plenty of fireworks to spice up the evening . We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt totally safe even on remote hikes. We would totally recommend this resourt .

The cabin is seriously in need of an upgrade. Very old smell. The cooking pots and pans are rusted and burnt. The food was very oily. The road is extremely bad. The scenery and hikes are super amazing and breathtaking. I really hope you read this and take upgrading at heart.
