Yelp
I have tried a LOT of highly ranked sandwiches in SF. Deli board, Lucinda's, Molinari, you name it. So when I saw there was a sandwich place with 5 stars near me... I was dubious but excited to try it and see how it compared.
McBaker's deserves all 5 stars. I honestly rarely come on Yelp to review things unless I think it truly deserves it... this is one of those occasions.
First of all, cute bodega that is well stocked and the people were so nice. I didn't know what to get and the gentleman at the counter helped me figure it out. I ended up getting the Hella Gouda which clocked in around $13 and was HEFTY and niiiice and warm. That price point for a sandwich of this size in SF... a rare find and one of the reasons this place deserves its 5 stars.
The Hella Gouda was perfect. A perfect Turkey sandwich. I got it on Dutch crunch per the gentleman's recommendation. Nice and toasty, sauces were so good, and perfect ratio of Turkey and lettuce and everything. The bacon was also sooo nice and crispy-- I hate when bacon is flabby in a sandwich or makes it soggy. Despite the delicious sauces, this was not a soggy sandwich. Such good flavors!! It was scrumptious!
One half more than filled me up for lunch (keep in mind I'm a relatively smallish woman so maybe that's why) and I warmed up the second half for dinner. 15 minutes at 350 in the oven... somehow it came out even BETTER. The cheese was melty, the bread was even crunchier without being too dry, and despite the sandwich sitting in my fridge for a few hours, it was not soggy at all. Just absolutely delicious.
Lucinda's used to be my favorite sandwich in the area. A sandwich there is very tasty and can also serve 2 meals but very messy and easily clocks in around $20. Deli Board runs you past $22. Save your money, treat your taste buds-- go here instead. Dare I say... this might even be my new favorite sandwich shop in SF. Can't wait to go back and try more!!
