A great little museum with a cool little gift shop, if you are looking for stickers, ornaments, shirts, magnets or other McAllen souvenirs this is a great place to visit. While here take a look at the museum also which is also very informative of the area.

An absolute gem in the heart of the city! This wonderful museum is impactful! It feels like a magic time machine, it is full of so much information, exhibits, and pictures! A great museum to visit and it's free! Yes, it is free for everyone to enjoy! The staff are amazing! Treat yourself and your family and make it a point to visit and learn about the city's history. Make it fun family day and create lasting memories!

As a tourist visiting from Oregon, this place was a gem; one of the museum staff, David Martinez, was really knowledgeable about McAllen and the Rio Grande Valley in general, and had a particular interest in the 1890s - 1920s time period. I spent the majority of my time there just talking story with him.

Great collections. Especially the timeline of mcallen development since the early 1900's, with lots of pictures, news articles, and objects from that time. Also the story of UTRGV is there. Great for both locals and tourists. Plus is in the middle of downtown so you can do shopping there too. Last but not least, the people working in there are extremely welcoming. There is parking on site in the back of the building. Free entrance.
