What happened to you, McCormicks?? This was one of my favorite places in Wayzata, until recently. About 3 months ago I came with friends and ordered the special of the evening, the miso glazed sea bass. I've had the dish before and it was always delicious. This particular evening I received a very small piece of fish on a bed of soggy greens that looked like mushy celery. No other side to go with it, and the cost was over $30. I did tell the server that I thought the dish wasn't adequate, and she agreed to take some $ off the price, which I appreciated.
Two weeks ago my boyfriend and I, along with another couple, came for dinner on a Saturday night. When we arrived the restaurant was only 1/3 full, which seemed odd to us. We decided to order a bottle of wine to go with our dinner. I was very surprised at the very limited choices, but decided to ask the gentleman who was our server what the difference was between the white Bordeaux and the white burgundy. He gave us a blank look and said, "I really don't know". He answered the same way to another question about the wines. He made absolutely no attempt to find out, either. We did order a bottle of the white Bordeaux, which was good, but not great.
The men ordered the walleye sandwich, and both of them rated it as "Meh". The women ordered the fish and chips and the chicken pot pie. The fish and chips weren't nearly as good as they had been in the past. And the chicken pot pie was nearly inedible. It appeared to have been a frozen dish that was extremely overcooked. The crust was tough and chewy and only covered about 2/3 of the dish. It didn't taste like a pie crust or anything close to what a pot pie crust should. There was almost no gravy, and the pieces of chicken were tough and chewy. It was terrible.
Our server, who had no interest in us whatsoever, never came by to fill the wine glasses, ask how the meals were, or even find out if we were interested in dessert. If he had made an attempt to pay any attention to us at all we would have expressed our concerns - and perhaps ordered dessert. We left feeling very disappointed by the whole experience. We really loved McCormick's, but agreed that we wouldn't be going back.
