McCray's Tavern

Me & my fiance decided to eat here last week since we were in the area. I ordered the Chicken Philly Cheesesteak with fries. The philly was very dry and not much flavor. I felt full after eating just almost half of it. I didn't even want to get dessert. My Amaretto Sour was very good. I didn't want to take my leftovers home. (I usually do.) My fiance ordered a chicken panini and fries. He thought his food was just ok, it wasn't flavorful. He did enjoy his Old Fashioned. The restroom was through a doorway that read "Restrooms" and it was all the way at the end of the hallway. I passed a couple of doors I thought was the bathroom on the way to it. They have two unisex bathrooms.

Very cool pub and restaurant. The prices are definitely on the high side for the serving sizes. Portions are small to medium so if your super hungry start with an appetizer. The tadte id spot on. The food i ate was delicious. The service is mid at best. Our drinks were empty a lot. Sadly it wasn't very busy so I can't say it is because she was busy. With a this said I would probably try it again.

Great food. Awesome drinks and the best views from the roof top seating in Lawrenceville. Great place to go on a nice day.

We had an enjoyable meal with some friends. The atmosphere is relaxing although a little loud. My only real complaint was the service. From when we sat down to when we ordered our meal 40 mins. From getting meal to getting check was an additional 90 mins. Fortunately we were catching up with ol friends, but the reality is most people will find that unacceptable. Just plan accordingly if your on a time crunch.

Very good service. Like that their “burgers” can be with angus beef, chicken or impossible burger. Toppings on matador made a delicious bite. But the chicken was dry and overcooked. The burger came out well and not medium. Just a few details for the kitchen.

Went here for Burger Week and I was pretty optimistic since the burger they offered was right up my alley. The Grizzly Smash!! A Double Patty with cheese, BBQ sauce and an Onion Ring. The Onion ring was HUGE!!! No way I could eat that with my burger. So I took it off. But seemed like the actual patty didn't have any flavor and it was kinda greasy. Even with the BBQ sauce, I didn't get much flavor. The side of Onion rings seemed nice, but they were super salty. I do love BIG Onion Rings, but these seemed to miss the mark unfortunately. Also my server didn't seem to grasp the aspect of SERVICE. I had to go find her to get a refill on my tea, which the first one she brought me was unsweet, when I asked for Sweet.

Visited on 9/14/24 around 1 pm. Our server was Hanna she was really sweet, and provided great customer service. Myself and my husband went on a double date with another couple. I had the omelette with fries. The omelette was small, but tasty. I asked for no cheese, and cheese was added even thought I asked for none. It took us a while to get the food so I just kept it. I was glad that there was a non pork option as far as meat goes. I wasn’t super impressed with the omelette overall because of the size, and the price of the different additional ingredients. The fries were good. There is free parking in a parking lot behind the restaurant. There is also free parking in front. The restrooms weren’t clean, but there was a staff working to correct that.

I forgot to make reservations on Friday the day after Thanksgiving and they were super busy but we waited no more than 10 mins and were sat. Our server Crystal came over immediately and greeted us. I've been to the Smyrna and Midtown locations so I knew what I wanted. I ordered the buffalo chicken egg rolls with ranch. My friend and I enjoyed them. They were hot and fresh and the perfect balance of spicy and savory. For our entrees my friend ordered a patty melt and I ordered the chicken nachos. His patty melt honestly didn't look that appealing to me. He ate it but it didn't give patty melt vibes. The burger looked dry and the toast wasn't buttery at all. My nachos however were Delicious! I could honestly say the grilled chicken nachos were the best I've had this year. The flavors were all there. Even a few hours later when I reheated my leftovers the nachos were still good. For dessert I ordered the brownie sundae. I normally order brownies wherever I go if they serve them. This was one of my least favorite. Our server said it's served warm but I couldn't tell. The top layer is very hard and crunchy but under is gooey and smooth. I barely got a full scoop of ice cream. More like a sliver of ice cream. Whoever they get the brownies from they should prob find a new vendor. Overall we had a good visit and I would def return for some of my favs.

We come to McCray's Tavern in Lawrenceville about once or twice a month and usually have a great experience, so tonight was really disappointing. We went with our kids to celebrate the kickoff of flag football and our daughter's win at Central Gwinnett High School. The school's only six minutes away, so we love keeping it local -- and we even chose McCray's over other restaurants on the square to support them. We were seated and ordered drinks and food at 9:26 pm. Our server, Tiffany, was amazing -- super friendly, quick with our drinks, and stayed on top of everything. The issue was the bar. It took 20 minutes to get our beer because the bartender, Chelsea, was busy hanging out with her friends at the corner of the bar instead of working. We actually got our food before the beer came out. When the beers finally arrived, they were rushed and had way too much foam. I politely asked Tiffany if she could have them repoured, which she did, but we could hear Chelsea complaining loudly about it from across the restaurant. Her friends at the bar were rowdy, making comments, and at one point a male friend of hers made a loud remark about how "perfect" his beer looked -- clearly directed at us. We asked to speak with the manager, Justin, who was understanding and apologized. We told him we didn't want anything comped -- we just wanted to let him know because it made our family's night uncomfortable. He comped the beers anyway, which was kind of him, but the bartender continued to glare at us and was passive-aggressive as we left, even telling us "have a good night" in a tone that didn't feel genuine. The food was great, and Tiffany truly went above and beyond despite being caught in the middle. But the bartender's behavior really hurt the experience -- not just for us, but likely for other customers too since drinks were delayed. My daughter also noticed some of the bartender's friends vaping at the bar, and one even had a dog there. We love McCray's and hope management addresses this. We'd like to keep coming back, but the bar service tonight was unacceptable and took away from what should've been a fun family celebration.

1 star. TL;DR - Food is mid. Ambiance on the roof is decent, but service and restrooms are not readily available. We dropped in to enjoy a birthday lunch with my aunt. Party of 4. We had to wait forever for a table, then the table was outside on the sidewalk with bees flying everywhere. We asked to move and had to wait again for a table on the roof. Ordered a spinach dip for appetizers... it was liquid with whole spinach leaves. No cap! It was awful. Even the server said he'd never seen it looking like that. Our food took a really long time to come. When it finally arrived, it was cold. Dessert was decent. We shared a brownie sundae. I'd come back to sit on the roof and enjoy a brownie sundae or a beer, but nothing more.

Nice bar atmosphere in Downtown Lawrenceville. Friendly service albeit slowish. Hamburger n Fries were delicious and I am not a French -fry guy.

I've been here few times before but this time I came for 2025 burger week. The burger was good but fell apart soon as I picked it up. I had to eat it with a fork and knife. Not judging based off one burger because this place has a lot of great options on the menu. Service at the bar was excellent! The bartender kept my glass of water full and she made one heck of a margarita (I ordered it bartender's choice). Overall, it was a good experience!

The food is OK , I had the patty melt and the service is pleasant. I would've given it another Star, but they charge for using a credit card .in this day and age no one carries cash. I hate being nickeled and dimed. It just makes me feel like they really don't want my business.

This is our go to place after corn hole on Mondays. They have half off wings on Mondays. The size of the wings have shrunk over time on those half off nights. This week I ordered the special which was a chorizo burger. It was really good, messy, but good. Have they a monthly beer special $7 for a 20oz. Service is always great. Have an awesome upstairs patio when the weathers nice.

Good food, but very poor service. Our server spent a lot of time hanging out with another table. Our water glasses were empty and never refilled. We placed our empty water glasses at the end of the table, so it was obvious. We had to go to the table, where our server was hanging out, and ask for our check.

The roof top is a vibe! The food is nothing too crazy just the basics! I got the smoked turkey club, I didn't really like the bread maybe in a wrap it would be better! My friend got the salmon BLT which was also pretty mid The sweet potato fries were my fav!!!! I wouldn't come back! Only because it doesn't feel worth it to me The view is super cute though and service is always good! I feel for the servers having to walk all those stairs ): talk about leg day everyday Also my cup was dirty which isn't completely their fault! I know how dishwashers run the cups

Oof! The food was meh. The service was the WORST! She checked on us once and spent the majority of the time talking at the computer right behind the glass that we were right next to or in the back. She took my drink and never brought one back, then she short changed us. We paid cash and they didn't mention that they don't give change. When we brought it up she said that they just round up, but in that case we were shorted that whole dollar. It wasn't that good, and that whole situation will be keeping me away. Moral of the story: If you go, don't pay cash.

Great little spot in downtown Lawrenceville. We attended the ugly sweater party and I must say, we had a great time. The DJ/hostess was everything her energy was perfect. And what can I say about the food? It was very good.. I'm pretty glad my girlfriend dragged me out the house for this. lol.

Food average. Service incredibly poor. Our server was nice but the hostess seemed like she hated her job. We finished our food before we even received the drinks. Christmas decoration nice .... But not over the top as described. Would not recommend.

Impressed with food and service. Located in historic district of town. Good bar food and drinks. Warm inviting atmosphere. Enjoyed my be in cheeseburger in pretzel bread. Soup was hot and good.

Nice day out in Lawrenceville so we took a spot at McCray's patio for lunch. They didn't have the rooftop open at this time. The service was great. Justin, our server, took great care of us. The food was good, but the sides were over-seasoned IMHO. Other than that, we enjoyed our meal and the nice weather.

Came for brunch Sunday around 1pm. Our server Graham/Gramme? was nice enough but dismissive and seemed very busy. Food was ok. Problem came when it was time to pay. He had charged us extra for side dishes that were substituted for other sides on the original dishes. Not sure if this was intentional but I work in restaurants and know that servers will up charge and try to get away with it when people don't double check. Also, the tips were already part of the total which he did not make us aware of so we almost double tipped him. We were with a young teen girl paying cash with her younger sisters and she gave him cash expecting change and he assumed the remainder was a tip. It is not ok to assume tips. At least ask if they need change.

Our server forgot about us after she took our drink order, she was cleaning the table behind us after about 5 minutes of waiting she came over and apologized. After some time passed she finally brought out drinks, that were incorrect and in a STYROFOAM CUPS. Confused why some tables had regular glassware and why we were given the "to-go"option with no explanation. We then decide to order as we knew we might not see her again, only for her to write our order down walk away and come back after 5 minutes asking if we had an appetizer, which we did. Food was thankfully warm, pretty much the only thing that saved the experience. After a bit of eating she came back around asking if we needed refills on our drink, we went ahead and said yes, only to never get them. While waiting on the drink refills and check she was unbothered talking with other people not even thinking about her table that was still waiting on items. Safe to say will not be returning

wait was supposed to be 20 minutes but turned out to be more than an hour. maybe it was just a bad night for them but they should have known it was a bad night so we could dine elsewhere. very uncool of them to keep us waiting outside on a street for an hour.

Everytime I've been to McCrays, the atmosphere, ambiance, food and drinks have been near perfect! But the customer service has always been a 10 for 10 when I have Crystal as my waitress. She makes you feel welcome, make sure you have more than enough water and always checking to make sure food and drinks are good. She goes out of her way to make sure everything is perfect for you just so you can have a excellent continuation of you day or a wonderful end to your night! I'm always happy and satisfied whenever Crystal is on shift!

From walking in, I liked how big the inside was and how clean & decorated (for Halloween) it was. What I don't like is the amount of stairs it takes to get to the rooftop. The service was fine and welcoming. The Paloma tasted great. The Buffalo chicken rolls were just okay. It was stuffed with chicken (I know, who complains about that) but to mean this creates a more dry taste. I would've like the filling to have more cheese. Additionally, I hated the ranch. I was expecting housemade ranch, which I'm sure would've made the rolls 100 times better, but the ranch tasted like cheap Kraft ranch and to me, not enjoyable.

Stopped by on Memorial Day for a quick bite to eat since we had no real big plans and ended up getting a nice view . We stoped by McCray's with the kids and tried the roof top seating which was nice not to hot or bad the weather was nice and so was the view . The restaurant was pretty chill and the service was decent. We tried a few different meal options before calling it a night. We had the chicken pasta i can't remember the actual name but it was chicken pasta that i give a 5/10. Then we Moved onto the buffalo chicken bites which was a 7-10 . The drinks were pretty cool as well

Solid spot in Lawrenceville square for good food but can be wildly inconsistent. Rooftop dining is brilliant - nice view of the square but can get crowded so I recommend stopping by on a weekday evening. If the weather is nice and it looks empty up there, you will hate yourself for not going. Service is slow no matter how busy it is and they will forget to bring you silverware, water, etc. They will forget completely forget you are at the table but that seems normal around here. Seriously. Drinks are ok - nothing spectacular. I can't recommend the old fashioned, it was no bueno. Perry Street Paloma is great, refreshing nice for summer time when the weather reminds you that you live in Georgia. Pineapple Jalepeno Margarita is good - not too spicy or sweet, very well balanced. Does not taste like a margarita and that is a complement - it was a proper cocktail Food - the food is generally ok. nothing special and probably find the same any other place. Sometime mediocre is good. The tacos are ok - nothing special but good enough. The salmon was good as well - a little dry and not as much flavor but passable. Here is the kicker - the best dish I've had is the chili rubbed pork tenderloin with chipolte mashed potatoes. The first time, mashed potatoes were smooth creamy and slightly spicy with that chipolte heat so it was nice and mellow lingering spicy. The pork was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right, the whole plate worked with the pineapple pico. It was so good I came BACK for it and greatly disappointed the second time. Second time, it was a different dish. Mashed Potatoes (the star of the previous show) was bland and uninspiring. No heat. Chunky this time not smooth mashed potato. The pineapple pico was more like apple pico - missing something. The pork came out pre-cut this time and portion seemed smaller, and taste was bland compared to last time. There was additional garnish - definitely not cilantro - didn't do anything but make it all weird.

So my husband and I came here to celebrate his birthday about 4 years ago and every since this has become our to go place for a delicious burger made to perfection! Love the service, everyone there is great! Price of food is very reasonable! And last but not least the indoor and outdoor plus rooftop space is great!

The food is ok and priced ok. The view was really pretty and we went on a good day where sitting outside was really enjoyable. The staff is always really nice.

Great service! Great food! Sat at the bar, and Hannah was our bartender. Ordered the crap dip, shrimp and grits, and jambalaya.

If I could give less than one star, I would. I arrived near the end of brunch when the restaurant wasn't busy and sat on the rooftop. After 35 minutes with only one menu 6 people water, no one ever returned to take our order. I got up to leave and asked for a manager, but the service didn't improve. I'm tired of establishments that don't value paying customers

Ate there tonight for the first time in about 6 months. You can absolutely tell they are under new management and have a new "chef". Food was not even in the realm of good. Food was screwed up from the start. 1 waitress for the roof. We waited 30 minutes to order and almost an hour to get our food it is so sad because their food used to be very good. Not sure why but they changed their menu and auto add gratuity to the check for every customer. Not 6 or more. We will not be eating there again until they get a better chef and better management. The waitress did do her best though.

Great food as always. Kevin, our server, was awesome very attentive, friendly and professional Beer evaporated too quickly. Extensive beer list... awesome!!!

Unfortunately we had a terrible experience here last night after our friends wedding . About 30 of us walked over hoping to end the night on a great note. That did not happen thanks to the staff at McCray's. We were OBVIOUSLY dressed to the 9's including a bride in her gown and a groom In a tux and they treated us like major annoyances. News Flash you work in a bar... people want to Eat and Drink. I know it's hard to grasp that concept so none of us will bother you with our business again, ever!! Our group spent well upwards of $1500 - (watch your bill carefully) we also called the next day to see if any of our missing items were in the lost and found which no surprise were not. Not sure if any management was present last night as it definitely was not reflected in the service. Just thought the owner and future customers should be aware of our experience.

We had a big party, so we had to wait. But once we got in, it was okay. We actually have to wait quite some time cuz I guess there was some stuff going on in the kitchen. But the way staff was very nice to us. The manager even came over to apologize for any weight that we had to endure. The wings are half off on Mondays. Had the lemon pepper and Thai chili. Both were okay. Not great. But not bad. Lemon pepper was the best of the bunch. Fried Brussel sprouts were decent. They could have used some extra sauce or something on them to make them a little more flavorful. Also got the matador burger was pretty good. He had a light kick to it. When I go back, yes. It wasn't the greatest experience as far as the food was concerned, but the way staff is so pleasant that I had no issue with it. And I like the area. It's right in the middle of lawrenceville, there's plenty of places to go and it's very walkable. So I would go on the strength of I like where it is located.

It's been a while since we have been here. Stopped coming because of the poor service and overpriced food. Gave it a try today and nothing has changed. Food is nothing special and expensive for what you get. Had to send food back twice for being over cooked. Service was poor. No manager came by after food sent back. Drinks were empty most of the meal. For sure won't be back again.

Breanna gave us great service and the food was excellent. She was very attentive. We will come back and ask for her next time.

Don't serve pieces of smash burger on a bun and call it an impossible burger - should have been a cooked patty, not pieces, and the cook who served it ought to be ashamed. Another in my party had ordered it before and was surprised how they turned out - the service was great, but the food, not so much - no need to return here

We have been here before for brunch. This was the first time for dinner. We started with the chips with Blue cheese and bacon on them. Yum! I had the Salmon and my friend had the Chicken Picata. The Salmon was cooked perfectly and the chicken was moist and tasty as well. Zack did an awesome job as our sever. I will be back!

I booked a party of 15. The tables were evenly spaced from another party in the room, so comfortable. I was able to bring my own cake and decorations, including flowers and balloons. The tables were set beautifully and in plenty of time. Our Servers - Jordan and Dominic were amazing: on point at all times, pleasant and very professional. The food was perfectly prepared and delicious. It was my "Birthday Celebration of Life" with very special friends who all praised the servers and commented on what a great time they had. All in all, I will be back and so will my friends. Great party! Thank you so much!

From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm smile. The food is amazing and the vibes were very chill for a Tuesday night. Perfect for a late weekday dinner on the rooftop. Downstairs there was a live dj and it looks cool, so we can't wait to come back and enjoy some drinks too!

Hannah was our server and she was super helpful and nice. Made sure we got what we needed. Food was amazing, came out super quick.

First time trying McCray since moving to the area, and it will become one of our go too! Hubby and I had lunch here Friday and it was really good. We opted to sit on the rooftop, and enjoy the view and Fall breeze! Our waitress was attentive and really nice. We tried the buffalo chicken rolls, hash brown fritters, nachos and the hamburger! All which was flavorful and very good! I had the jalapeño Margarita, which wasn't too spicy and hubby had their old fashion, was done well. Definitely recommend for any occasion, it's a vibe!

The food was not good and neither was the service. I've been here numerous times and not had much issues before tonight. I had the spinach and artichoke dip. Very greasy. Also, the restaurant was not clean. The floors were not swept. I understand being busy, but it's inexcusable for most of the tables being as messy as they were when no one was seated.

Second time visiting. Came for Gwinnett Burger Week. Burger was great. They have a full bar so can order whatever you like, but their craft cocktails are pretty decent. Last visit was during winter and they had awesome seasonal drinks. They were out of a lot of their premade cocktails on draft, which caused quite a delay in ordering drinks. Our server Charlee was upbeat and great to have. Arrive early if you want to sit upstairs, was full at around 5p on Saturday. Great place to dine in downtown Lawrenceville!

If you leave a bad review about this place you are LYING! This is one of the best spots in the Lawrenceville area and the food,vibe, and workers are absolutely amazing! From the greeter to the server to the GM making sure everyone was having a good time. Our server was KJ and me and my buddies were blessed to have him taking care of us. He was quick, friendly, careful, and there was never a dry cup at the table. He gave his opinion on what to get and he was spot on! This man is a Gem to this facility and really makes me wanna come back! Thank you KJ!

Food is nothing special, barely average , but it takes too long for lunch . I must be missing something because it's crowded

I never finish burgers, but I finished this one and yes! It was good! I have tried a few other thing here at Mccray's, like the Ruben and turkey club, all very yummy and great options while getting your drink on. This place is always clean and very friendly service! We like!!!!

Updated review: The food has been very good the past 3 times we've gone compared to the past. I can tell their cooks know what they are doing! The potato chip side is so good, topped with garnishing to add more flavor. Their wings were good, I did half lemon pepper & half hot 10 wings, paired with potato chip side. The pasta my boyfriend gets is great each time, he adds protein to it. Our server was good too & friendly.

We go here yearly for St Paddy's day events, but this was our first time doing brunch on the rooftop. All staff was extremely friendly. The drinks were good & strong. The food was good, but the biscuit and gravy were smaller than expected and dry. The biscuit could've been cut open but overall decent. The croissant on the breakfast sandwich was huge~very good. They are a relatively large restaurant with lots of seating indoors, and they have a new section on the sidewalk outside that's covered with umbrellas if you don't want to wait to sit on the rooftop. Will be back to try lunch/dinner menu! We came back on St. Patrick's day yet again. We were sad to see our favorite scotch eggs were no longer on the menu. We sat on rooftop again and Chris was our server. She was AMAZING!! I don't drink beer or wine and was sad there weren't any green cocktails on the menu. Chris said she would come up with something for me & it was so good I got one to go & others around asked what I was having. The fish & chips were HUGE, but the Shepard's pie was relatively small for the same price. My husband always has leftovers but finished it no problem so that was his only complaint. Again Chris made our day! She's excellent!!

So many great restaurants in Lawrenceville but MCray's is such a staple. Good atmosphere with rooftop dining when the weather is nice. Decent food selection but the Rueban is to die for. The beer selection and availability needs to be bigger. Service is usually good but the bar tends to get backed up.

The service when we went yesterday was completely unacceptable. The waitress barely came back. Our food was significantly late and to find assistance for service and she did not want to come back when she finally did she ended up having an attitude, we had to wait yet another 30 minutes to even pay our bill we were there for about three hours just trying to eat dinner. Hanna our waitress provided awful service!!

Besides good food, McCray's makes the best Old Fashioned drinks in town, in my opinion.

Food was good, only received 3 onion rings with my order. My main complaint is they added a 20% tip And on bill there was a place for added tip. They said on holidays they do that. Liked this place but they will see us no more
