This is my first year purchasing the Advent calendar for everyone. Who doesn't like caramels?! Love the Advent calendar! Day 1 took me by surprise 😮 It wasn't the normal caramel taste. Looking at the wrapper, "Tapped Maple". That made sense of the taste. We have been enjoying the daily sweet treats with the creativity of the variety of tastes! Thank you

Google
Not so many reviews here. Unsure about how they survive after the pandemic, but I received a Christmas gift from a family member, and okay, the candy, it’s the absolute one of the best candies I’ve ever had! Feeling blessed to have tasted such deliciousness. I am thinking about might visiting the store someday in person and say: hey! Thank you. I really love your caramels!

Julie H.

Google
I ordered a few advent calendars as gifts. I tried the 1st day and the caramel tasted like an old cigarette. Had to spit it out. Now I am embarrassed that I gave them as gifts.

Google

Google
These caramels are one of the best things I have tasted. There are so many flavors, the texture that last, and take you away . They have replaced my dark chocolate treat. I get a box and share it with others who are equally Wowed!. Thank you.

Google
Small business front that produces a lot caramel candies. They have multiple flavors, each with great taste. Dark Roasted Mocha, Tapped Maple, and Classic Vanilla are my favorites. Definitely good quality, real natural flavors, and a good snack that's not too sweet.

Google
My boyfriend was blown away with the Caramels! He especially liked the mocha and Rosemary flavors and now wants larger boxes of each! Perfect Christmas gift!

Google
Absolutely the best sweet treat ever. Flavors well balanced, some have sea salt others herbs of different varieties, all are tasty. If you can't make it to his shop in Hyde Park, no sweat. You will find Jason at local markets and his products are available at many local Boston gift and specialty stores. Living in Minnesota, my option is their easy to use website.

Yelp
The candies are very good. I ordered online and it was delivered less than 2 weeks. I have a few pieces left and had not shared with anyone. lol. Yes, they are that good.

Michelle E.

Yelp
Fun treat! Chewy and fresh flavors. I enjoyed the salted ones the most as well as the truffle one. The others were too sweet for my taste. I'm usually a fan of ginger but they were my least favorite. Great gift item or holiday treat.

Jude M.

Yelp
A total rip-off... $22 for 18 very small pieces of caramelast and if u don't want to pay another $7 for shipping u have to pick them up at their warehouse. I won't be buying any caramels from mccrea again. And they r no better then any Cadbury or Lindt produc at twice the cost.

Yelp
Just received these in the mail a couple days ago and they are amazing! They are chewy and ooey gooey!!! The flavors really pop but are not too overpowering. There are a variety of flavors such as dark chocolate, ginger, basil cayenne, vanilla and more! My favorite turned out to be the dark chocolate. These are so yummy and too convenient to eat. Warning if they are next to you, be careful because it's so easy to eat 3, 4 or 10 of these in one sitting. For someone like me who does not Pursue candy because my mom constantly tells me it's bad for my teeth, go figure, I was so happy I received these in the mail because they are just bite sized pieces of heaven!

Jenny R.

Yelp
Overall, they were soft, and melted in your mouth. Majority of the flavors were so good, even the odd ones just worked! One of my IG friends said it would be good to make a lava cake with and I definitely want to see and taste that. Order these, or stop by a retail store that sells these and try it for yourself. Remember babes, Eat Rich or Die Tryin.

Yelp
I first experienced Caramel Eyes at the Second Glass Wine Riot in October. Amidst a sea of wine vendors peddling their wares, the Albert Winestein table stood out because it had two things the others did not: Stilton cheese (to go with some kind of red wine) and caramels (to go with port). Jason McCrea, the Chief Caramel Guy, was chopping up little pieces of those handmade, tasty caramels and handing them out alongside the Albert Winestein guy and his Stilton cheese. The caramels conjured up memories of drugstore penny candy, but with soft texture, intense flavor, and the optimal amount of sweetness. I also dig the name; it reminds me of my past aspirations to own a makeup company with mascaras named Mesmereyes, Visualeyes, and Fantaseyes. Right now, they have vanilla, black lava sea salt, cognac, and fresh ginger. Friends and family, be forewarned: you may or may not be getting Caramel Eyes for Christmakwanzaakah this year (the "may not" happening if the urge to chomp all the caramels happens before I wrap them).

Yelp
Heavens to Carmelitude. So today was my start of my non diary, non gluten, non fun diet and a package of these carmels is delivered to my desk. Unduanted I tried to resist to no avail. The magnetic pull was far too great for whatever willpower I could summon These arent ordinary carmels. No way. Maple, truffle and how about Black Lava sea salt from Hawaii(evidentally there is no Mass Black Lava). If you read the ingredients, cane sugar, fresh milk, fresh cream, sugar and butter, you understand the product is made with some integrity Best candy ever...seriously. About the ole diet, well tomorrow is another day

Yelp
My boyfriend came home with a little surprise for me today. After dinner he asked if I was ready for dessert. He pulled out 2 small packs of caramels and asked if I'd like to try mad vanilla or ginger infusion. I went with vanilla and wasn't expecting much from a piece of candy - but this is no run of the mill caramel. This small piece of vanilla heaven was sooo good I had a second. He tried the ginger infusion and was so pleased he told me I had to try one of those as well. Vanilla was my favorite of the two because I'm partial to the flavor but the Ginger was excellent as well. Went on the site to check out the company and they're a local business with a interesting story of how they got started. Their website boasts "Jason McCrea, Chief Caramel Scientist, has created something truly special." And they are dead on. They go on to say "An educated scientist with a background in chemistry and an abiding appreciation for natural ingredients, Jason is a man possessed by the single, simple idea to make the best tasting caramel in the world. Nothing less." I've yet to travel the world to see if his claim is true but I can attest that he's got the best tasting caramel on the East Coast. :-) Great product and a great value. I think I have a new addition to the family stockings this year.

Yelp
Went to the Holiday Market in Downtown Crossing (or whatever it's called) and saw Jason from McCrea's giving out free samples. He wasn't trying to sell them to me, just offering a sample (o.k. so maybe he was trying to sell them, but he was serious about the free, no pressure sample, and I appreciated that. Let me say this, I am not a caramel person...I like my candy with peanut butter and nuts. Now having said that, the samples were great!!! The vanilla and the ginger were both awesome. Originally when I think I preferred the vanilla, but after bring them home and sharing them, I think I prefer the ginger...but only slightly more. If you like small simple treats, this is something I highly recommend you try. Good stuff, made and sold by a very nice guy!!!

Yelp
Although I live hundreds of miles away, caramels from McCrea's Candies call to me with their siren song of impeccably fresh and high-quality ingredients and indulgent, sweet chewiness. The ginger infusion ones are my favorite, but they're all just delicious. No lie, these are caramels luscious enough to send vegan friends hurtling off the wagon. If you're fortunate enough to live near where these *are* sold in stores, get on down and get yourself some. If not, well, the post office delivers, and you can justify purchase of a value pack to save on postage.

Megan C.

Yelp
McCrea's Candies you are the devil. I can't resist you and sometimes I regret you (not natural to eat as many caramels as I can put down in one sitting). First lets talk about your sea salt caramel...perfection!!! You nailed it and I love it. Usually you tempt me into your sugary delights during the summer at the Roslindale Farmers market but tonight I tried some at the Downtown Crossing Christmas shops. As always the person working was super nice and no pressure to purchase. I declared my love of McCrea's and the woman working rewarded me with a piece of the new scotch caramel..also nailed it. I bought two bags as part of a bday present to a fellow fan but she will only be receiving one. I can't wait to see what else the team at McCrea's comes up with.

Judith K.

Yelp
It's over: my search for the perfect hostess gift. Welcome to SOWA Open Market, McCrea's - long may we chew! (Yes, it's the ones with the salt crystal in the middle that got me.)

Kristen C.

Yelp
The caramels were an enormous hit with our guests. Quite a few people asked us where they could buy them!

Alyson B.

Yelp
I was introduced to theses caramels at the Boston Wine Expo. Little did I know that picking up a small bag would change my lifetime love of them forever. I have always been a huge caramel person but these are truly spectacular. There are a variety of flavors and you can taste the difference that the time and car of making these really adds. Personally the Vanilla and the Black Lava Sea Salt are my favorites. They are individually wrapped old fashion style and come in very cute packaging. They are definitely pricey but it's worth it because they are one of a kind. You won't gorge on these but instead slowly enjoy. You can find them at SoWa too! I have to say if you enjoy caramels you're in for a treat and if not these may change your mind.

Erica M.

Yelp
I was in cape cod a few years ago at a gift shop and came across the caramels. To die for! I recently called the gift shop, got the name of the caramel and then ordered a bunch as xmas presents. Sooooo yumm!

Sacha C.

Yelp
This little shop is great! The minute you walk in its like caramel heaven! The smell of fresh rolled caramel is divine. They carry a wide variety of flavors and the prices are wonderfully reasonable. Even better than the caramels they carry is their absolutely warm attitude. I walked in with my 4 year old and we talked with Karen for a bit. She let us try different flavors until we decided what to purchase. Try the variety pack, you can get a bit of everything. The only con: the sign they have in front of their shop is easily missed. I've driven and even walked past this shop so many times, not realizing the caramel heaven that awaits within.

Corby H.

Yelp
My girlfriend ordered some caramels for a little bonus to include with Christmas gifts. I opened one up and popped it into my mouth... pure bliss! It was the best piece of "candy" I have ever had and I don't know if the word candy really does it justice. That one caramel was like a little bit of heaven. If you try one you will be a customer for life. I'm ordering more as soon as I finish this review.

Tom D.

Yelp
The best caramel I've ever had, pure buttery goodness. I've tried four flavors and have to go try the rest now.

Ari B.

Yelp
Tried these caramels for the first time today, and can best summarize the experience by saying...heaven exploded in my mouth. McCrea's makes delicious, corn-syrup-free candy fresh in the kind of way where you can see the caramel being rolled out from where you stand at the counter. You're welcomed to try free samples, test new flavors--I even got to try one fresh from a caramel roll that hadn't been cut and packaged yet! Flavors are varied and unique, but all well-balanced with the inherent sweetness of the candy. There's no cloying artificiality--all of the flavors are genuine, and evolve nicely on the tongue. In the ginger candies for instance, you get that initial burst of sweetness, followed by the slight spice of ginger. Lovely. I wound up getting a tube of the single malt scotch, since I love a well done liqour candy. Don't get me wrong though--the candies closer to original caramel flavor (such as the black lava sea salt) more than hold their own. I'm not even normally that much of a caramel person. But damn these blow normal caramel out of the water. Mostly the candy is sold in single flavor 5oz tubes, but apparently they also sell a gift box with an assorted couple of flavors. Would love to see other gift box options, since right now there only seems to be the one offered flavor mix. That said, I would be happy to just buy dozens of tubes and roll in the stuff.

Chuck T.

Yelp
Two words best describe this caramel and the folks who run the shop. WICKED AWESOME! You don't want to say more because you want to enjoy your candy!!

Jeremy B.

Yelp
If there was a word better than awesome, McCreas caramel would be that word. I definitely suggest it.

Deb B.

Yelp
My friend and I visited McCrea's at the SoWa Open Market today. Jason's caramels were amazing. I tried the Mad Vanilla and the Cape Cod Salt Works caramels. Both were amazing but I ultimately purchased the Black Lava Sea Salt Caramels. They are amazing. The salt is larger in this variety so it gives the caramel a nice crunch factor, but not too much of a crunch, just the right amount. My friend lived the Ginger Fusion and purchased the variety pack. Thanks Jason! I was nice meeting you, good luck with your business!!

Eileen M.

Yelp
I also visited McCrea's carmels at SoWa. I bought the Black Lava Sea Salt, had one and fell in love! They are so delicious that I ordered enough to be handed out as a 'Thank You' gifts at our wedding celebration! Matt was so very helpful with the ordering, labeling and delivery. The carmels were a HUGE hit!

Ann Marie D.

Yelp
Best. Caramels. Ever. Black Lava Sea Salt are my personal favorites. Yummy!!!

Bethany J.

Yelp
These caramels are AMAZING! I've always loved anything caramel but always found it disappointing to find the kind that stick to your teeth...I loved the flavor but hated the fact that I had them left in my teeth for hours after I enjoyed them. BUT THESE.....these caramels are melt in your mouth, not stick to your teeth goodness. If you are a caramel fan, or even if you're not - you must give these a try!

teri d.

Yelp
I ate my way through 4 canisters of caramels around Christmas - I suppose I should mark them down for making these taste SO delicious that I ate so many, but it was worth every calorie!! The rosemary flavor is the best and I suggest everyone order some and try them. Today. Right now.

Carolyn R.

Yelp
I'm completely addicted to these caramels. I bought a bunch for my kids' Sunday school teachers for holiday gifts, and because of a snowstorm Sunday school was cancelled and I was left in the house with a bunch of tubes of caramels....needless to say , once I tasted one there was no going back. Had to buy more for the teachers.

Sarah A.

Yelp
I first tried a McCrea caramel about 1 month after getting engaged, and knew immediately that we needed to work with McCrea's for our wedding favors. They were fantastic to work with and sent us samples to try so we could pick our favorite flavors. We loved them all, but narrowed it down to the Mad Vanilla and the Black Lava Sea Salt. They have a lot of more creative flavors that we also adored, but we stuck to the classics since we were serving these to a lot of people. I am obsessed with their Rosemary flavor. OMG. They worked with us to get a bulk rate and shipped the caramels the week I requested so that they would be as fresh as possible for our guests. They were a hit with EVERYONE. I could not recommend them more. They are also sold at an upscale liquor store near us, and we can't resist every time we shop there. McCrea's Candies are just something you just randomly crave and drool over after you've tried them once.
