McDonald’s Replaced Plastic Straws With Non-Recyclable Ones in the U.K. | Eater

"In 2018 the chain phased out roughly 1.8 million single-use plastic straws used daily across its 1,361 U.K. and Ireland restaurants in favor of paper straws intended to protect the environment. An internal memo later revealed that the replacement paper straws—made thicker after customers complained the originals became soggy and made milkshakes hard to drink—cannot actually be recycled because their thickness prevents processing by waste handlers, so they should be disposed of with general trash. The company says the situation is temporary and points out that restaurant waste is used to generate energy rather than left to decompose in landfills, and that paper straws will break down more quickly if littered compared with plastic ones." - Jenny G. Zhang

Good spot to grab dinner with plenty of self-serve kiosks available, seating is plentiful too. Service was fine and the Chicken Big Mac was a tasty promo, two patties were placed unevenly though and the fires were nice while portion was small. The cooler drink was more of a highlight and returned after midnight another day for a Mozzarella Dippers sharebox, this was more of a solid experience!

I was genuinely disappointed with my recent order. When I opened the box, the McSpicy bun had a large section missing, almost as if it had already been bitten. This is unacceptable, especially given the price and the standards expected from McDonald’s. I had also requested extra lettuce, but there was no noticeable difference at all. If customers are paying for additional items or making specific requests, they should be fulfilled properly. Overall, the presentation and quality of this order were below standard. I am sharing this to highlight the need for better quality control and attention to detail.

If you can avoid this location as its not worth it. Have consideration for your gut. They are promoting flavours of the world at the moment so I ordered Polish fries and Australian spicy pineapple burger. Burger was stone cold. Whoever prepared it just put the ingredients together but its obvious the ingredients are sitting ready for god knows how long. So basically a sandwich it was. Not worth 6.50 for what it was. Polish fries 🍟 arrived as normal fries with a packed of seasoning and a bag that said polish fries. So from what I gather I was expected to transfer the fries to the bag provided and add the seasoning on from supplied packet. Unreal. Read the ingredients list on the packet-never again. All chemicals. Donegal place is a dive.

The McDonald’s in Belfast city centre is convenient, but my experience was mixed. I ordered a salad along with my burger, but unfortunately, the salad was inedible and very disappointing. The burger itself was okay, and the staff were polite, but the quality of the salad really let the meal down. Could be better.

Last morning, before an early tour, I needed a swift breakfast and McDonald's was conveniently open. I opted for an Egg McMuffin and a flat white. The service was efficient, and while the food was satisfactory, I particularly enjoyed the coffee. The restaurant was clean, and I appreciated the ample seating available downstairs as it wasn't too busy.

McDonald's in the very heart of Belfast is incredibly busy, and the crowds here are always huge. Surprisingly, despite the rush, things move quite efficiently - even faster than in some smaller McDonald's locations. The place has two floors with plenty of seating available, which is great, but unfortunately, this seems to impact cleanliness negatively. They should really put more effort into maintaining cleanliness, as it often feels quite dirty. Also, mistakes are more common here - I've experienced issues like very cold fries or extremely over-salted burger patties. There's definitely room for improvement.

Came here for an early breakfast. Great to see staff taking good care of this branch. Nice to see a lady staff carefully wiping and cleaning the screens. Food was freshly made and hot when served.

My burger bun was burnt, the chicken was super dry, and the fries were super dry and burnt. Never again at McDonald's.

Yelp
I visited this McDonalds twice during my trip in Northern Ireland, once for a late night snack and once for an early breakfast. There are kiosks to order if you do not want to wait in line to order with a cashier. I noticed there were a lot of young adults at this location, and that it was busy during both times I went. Service seems fast despite having a lot of customers inside. What I tried: -Terry's Chocolate Orange Pie is delicious. We don't have that in the United States. The pie is hot and crispy on the outside, and has a semi-sweet chocolate filling, similar to a pudding consistency, with an orange flavor. The overall taste of the pie is light, and not strong or too artificial tasting in either chocolate or orange. -Hamburger: The hamburger is very small and flat compared to the US, but tastes similar, just slightly healthier. -Cheese bites: Also a non-US item. These are tiny mozzarella and emmental balls in a smoky caramelized onion flavored breadcrumb coating. I thought the cheese would be gooey but it was somewhat solid (but warm). It's served with BBQ Dip. -Mini Hash Browns: Got this in the 15 piece instead of the 5 piece. I counted as I ate and there were 13 in there (oh well). I prefer the minis to the flat hash browns (we don't have the mini version in the US). The mini hash browns are crispy and perfect to pop in your mouth. -Sausage & Egg McMuffin: It was okay. The muffin top and bottom are very thin and the sandwich flavor isn't as salty compared to the US. -Breakfast Wrap with Brown Sauce: This is like a McMuffin but in a wrap. I prefer this since it's more filling as it comes with bacon and potato rosti (hashbrown) too. Brown sauce is hard to describe for me. It's not like a BBQ sauce, so it's not smokey or tangy, it's more spiced, sweet, tamarind-y, vinegary, like a cross of ketchup and Worchestshire sauce. The music was blasting at 8 a.m. so that's one way to wake yourself up. I went up to the second floor to eat. There's barstool seating along some windows, as well as grouped sit-down seating. Both the first and second floors were generally clean.

Yelp
You can say that McDonalds are all the same. I disagree as I have been to some rough ones but this one, In Belfast, hit the top. Freshly cooked sandwiches in an extremely clean restaurant. Friendly staff. I'll put this one in my top five. Well done guys and gals.

Yelp
McDonalds has gone high tech!!!! I nipped in to see how the newly refurbished McDonalds looked like in the City Centre. Was pleasantly surprised to see how high tech it looked. There's a real nice flow and feel to it. You can order on touch screens and pick up at the counter, or can regularly order at the counter. Not long til they automate everything and get rid of humans!!

Yelp
Staff act as if they don't care about anything they got my order wrong, and forgot items as well! Which is so frustrating as they don't apologise and act like it's your fault they they have forgotten items!! How ever McDonald is always a good quick fix when your hunger- a McDonald's hack is this; buy a chicken mayo And a cheese burger, take away the bottom bun of the chicken Niger and eat it on it own, then out the rest of the chicken Burger on top of the cheeseburger and neither you have the best burger ever. Enjoy

Yelp
I think you have to be in a certain mood to have a McDonalds, personally I vary rarely get McDonalds cravings but when I do get them I just have to give in to it and get myself a Big Mac. The last time I visited this McDonalds I was in need of a Big Mac meal to cure the ever re-occurring hangover. It is almost as if the more I drink the worse my hangovers get. I thought it should have been the more I drink the better I get at drinking. The first thing I noticed was the new green look, it has moved away from the traditional red and yellow, maybe this is to reflect the new and more healthy menu. Secondly I never realised just how big this place was, although downstairs seemed very busy with parents and their screaming children in multiple pushchairs, upstairs was very quiet with loads of space and more suited to grown up people like myself and yourself. I was served extremely quickly and I must say the staff were pretty friendly. I can't really comment about the quality of the food as it is exactly the same no matter which McDonalds you go to. So if you like McDonalds then this is a great wee spot but if you're one of the few who detest the place just stay away.

Yelp
Mc Donald's is a guilty pleasure and should only be eaten when hungover- capiche? I've only been here once- yeah I am telling the truth- one college lunchtime. I was really hungover and craving a Big Mac. Nothing else would suffice. I remember being quite worried that a guy I'd started seeing might walk past on his lunch break and spot me. He thought I was classy and sophisticated- how would I explain this one? I had my Big Mac upstairs. I felt quite weird eating and reading the Guardian in a fast food restaurant surrounded by dodgy looking teens in tracksuits playing rave tunes on their mobiles. They have those fancy looking IKEA chairs, which are quite weird and a bit too bright. Anyway it's kinda cool the way it overlooks the city centre and there is a nice view from upstairs. Who knows maybe I'll get taken here on a date soon!

Yelp
What can I say??!! It's a McDonald's and that's about it - pretty economical and not the best quality food. This particular McDonald's restaurant can be extremely busy, though I don't know why, kids love it I guess. However they do sell two Vegetarian burgers, a Vegetable Deluxe and a Spiced Vegetable Deluxe (suitable for Vegetarians, not Vegans) and their hash browns are nice. I have been known to have been partial to a McFlurry in the past. But this will never be my first choice of a place to eat in.

Yelp
It's 24/7 which is amazing if you need something to eat or drink at any point of the night. You can buy your food with a credit card so you won't have to wait in line for ages. The staff are friendly and helpful in my experience.

Yelp
While I really love their breakfasts and will nip in every morning for one, the service is absolutely disgraceful. The staff are the rudest people on earth and frequently get orders wrong (I don't realise until I've gotten round to the office that they've given me the wrong thing) and their attitude towards customers absolutely stinks. I don't want to labour on this review as frankly I can't say much good about this place even though I do get my breakfast regularly out of there.
