Why Throwing Milkshakes and Eggs Has Become the Perfect Act of Protest | Eater

"A branch of a global fast-food chain in Edinburgh was reportedly asked by police not to sell milkshakes during a high-profile politician's visit, illustrating how the drink's recent use as a protest projectile has made such outlets inadvertent flashpoints. The request underscored growing suspicion around patrons carrying shakes and even contributed to a visiting politician's decision to remain on his bus rather than disembark after seeing people holding milkshakes. The episode shows how retailers may need to change sales practices and increase staff vigilance during politically sensitive events." - Jenny G. Zhang

Food was good except for them completely messing up the order. Male toilets were disgusting. Rubbish in both stalls, broken seats, no toilet rolls.

Young man named Tyson was on his phone every two minutes and when I say two I mean two sometimes less. I wouldn’t normally write a review like this however it was completely unnecessary. It was bloody ridiculous it wasn’t even like it was quiet. Young folk now days can’t go seconds without having there phone in there hand. Surly there is some kind of policy in place ? Older gentleman on shift was clearing all the tables and asking everyone if they were alright doing his job properly. They likely get paid the exact same too.Disgraceful.

Staff are terrible, ordered food and received different food. Ordered bottled water and given glass water and asked again bottled water, told me order from machine which I did already and didn’t see my order. Toilet is very dirty and they don’t check toilet as well. Staff are chatting inside rather than working. Sorry to say food is not cooked on good temperature and staffs need more training, they didn’t listened properly.

**McDonald's Edinburgh - Disappointing Review** **Attractive Prices** - It must be acknowledged that the prices are significantly more advantageous than in France, which represents a positive point for the wallet. **Desperately Slow Service** - Unfortunately, the wait is endless! Even with the self-service kiosks, the service drags on terribly. We really wonder where the "fast-food" concept has gone. **Concerning Hygiene** - The cleanliness standards are truly disappointing. Dirty tables, sticky floors, overflowing bins... It's frankly off-putting and unacceptable for a chain of this scale.

Rushed over early morning from Edinburgh Waverley station with luggage for a quick Toffee late with cream. Get back to station (5 mins walk) with a freezing odd tasting stale coffee, without any cream or extras. How can you mess up a Hot Drink ? Service was good and speedy, alas I think they just passed me an old random coffee which was just sitting there !

Google
In the whirlwind of this bustling fast-food spot, they've got a knack for zipping your order to you in no time. The grub? Absolutely scrumptious. And what caught my eye? Two security whizzes stationed at the entrance. When the crowd swells, these order-keeping maestros step in, choreographing a queue that flows smoother than a milkshake through a straw.

Yelp
Food came out somewhat on time. It was extremely busy. A lot of police presence. Wasn't sure what that was about. Food itself was typical for a McDonald's. Nothing spectacular.

Yelp
We stopped in close to midnight on the way back to our hotel from the pub. We ordered on the digital screens. Within a minute our order was ready. The line at the counters was several deep. Our experience went very well for a McDonalds. I would not normally rate a McDonalds but it deserved it due to the speedy delivery of our food. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could.

Yelp
This branch of McDonald's is seriously, seriously annoying. For several reasons. Whether it's the constant flow of chavvy teenagers in hoodies clogging up the place, or having to climb up several flights of stairs to get to the main seating area, or having to use an entry code to use the toilets, you'll always encounter a problem of some sorts here. This particular visit wasn't particularly great. I had to queue up for over 15 minutes among the chavs and then I went upstairs to find that all the seats were taken. After hanging around like a lemon for ages, I finally found a seat and tried to connect to the free O2 Wifi in the restaurant which didn't work. My food was okay but it was a bit cold by the time I sat down to eat and my strawberry milkshake was liquidy and strong, as if the syrup hadn't been mixed around properly. After I finished eating, I wanted to use the toilet but I had to go get the entry code from the staff as I had misplaced my receipt. Why would they even bother putting codes on the doors if the toilets are all the way at the top of the stairs? It just makes it more inconvenient for people who may not know about the system. I think I'll head over to the store in Waverley Mall or even the one up in the West End by House of Fraser from now on as this branch is just a huge pain in the arse.

Yelp
Greasy, incompetent staff? Yes. Greasy incompetent food, that is nevertheless strangely addictive? Yes Noisy, loud and full of 14 year old glue sniffers? Yes It annoys me how people lie when they say they hate McDonalds and would never eat there. They do. Everyone does, and everyone secretly loves it. They're not the biggest fast food company in the world just by chance.

Yelp
I am going to put my hand up and say I like McDonalds. As much as people claim to hate it, it gets the job done and it's made a pretty good go at doing so. Recently refurbished, this McDonalds if a-ok. But! What gets my goat about McDonalds is that at 2am on a Friday/Saturday night they entice you in by being the only food outlet open for miles. Well, what feels like miles when your drunk and feet hurt. So you go in and drunkenly order a pile of munch, then realise that when they are open late they bump the prices up by a fair whack. The cost of your post night out munch ends up costing more than your night out did in the first place! Props for being open late over the weekend though.

Yelp
It's McDonald's. In terms of the food, you know what you're going to get. This particular branch is fine. Unfortunately, it attracts a lot of loud, drunk people on Saturday nights, which I guess is to be expected, but is also typically the only time I go. Food is good. I usually ask for my burger without one ingredient, to make it more likely I'll get a fresh one. Staff are quite efficient, and I'm always in and out with little time wasted. It's greasy and unhealthy, but also cheap and cheerful. As Yelp says, this McDonald's is A-OK!

Yelp
Good mcdonalds, staff are quick, foods decent. Over all a good mcdonalds. The building is massive, the seating is mostly on the secondary story, meaning g that the bottom fits lots more people.over all it's super convienent as it's right across from a premier in.

Yelp
What can I say, I have loved McDonal's up untill now... I ordered a chicken Mayo meal which is normally lovely from McDonald's but not this time.. The bun was hard and crispy and the chicken was like a brick, wouldent even say it was edible, big let down and its fair to say that I am out off McDonal's for good now. Another thing is the hygiene is not as clean as it should be, tables rarely get cleaned.

Yelp
Had problems with this mcdonalds before, one was when my strawberry milkshake was not made properly and it was very strong, so I took it back. They tried to say it was fine when it clearly wasnt but took it back anyway. Then next time me and a couple of friends went to get a mccdonalds and my friend ordered a chicken burger. It was rock solid, clearly had been from the day before or just not cooked correctly, however she never ate it and wasted about £4 on nothing. To be honest though, most of the time the food is nice and enjoyable and would recomend going 3/5
