McDonald’s Will Get Rid of Plastic Toys in Happy Meals by 2025 | Eater

"Long a global pioneer of the grab-and-go fast-food model, this multinational chain popularized single-use plastic in restaurants and introduced the Happy Meal with a small plastic toy in 1979; it now sells about 1 billion Happy Meals per year. Facing criticism and research linking it to a disproportionate share of coastal plastic pollution in the U.K., the company pledged in 2018 that all packaging would be recycled or otherwise sustainable by 2025 and has set targets to reduce carbon emissions by 2030. In response to rising customer demand for climate-consciousness, it plans to remove 90% of virgin fossil-fuel-based plastic from Happy Meal toys by 2025—replacing them with paper, cardboard puzzles, and figurines—and says the change is cost-neutral and equivalent to 650,000 people stopping their annual plastic use; the chain has already cut toy plastic by roughly 30% in the U.K., Ireland, and France since 2018. Critics note the company’s historical role in driving single-use consumption, question how promised emission cuts will be enforced across suppliers that lack reporting or targets, and argue that these largely reactive, incremental shifts may be insufficient given the scale and urgency of the climate crisis." - Elazar Sontag

Have been here before and enjoyed it but last Saturday was very different. The food was grand, but the atmosphere was horrible. I realise that it was extremely busy but every staff member had such a sore face on them. Sorry, one exception, there was a young lady who was helpful . A machine was not taking payments, and you had to go to the counter to pay, but you were left standing there, and the longer you were standing , the longer it took for your order to register. Customers were complaining to each other but said nothing because it wasn't worth the hassle. I said nothing as I don't upset people who prepare my food. It was a really horrible atmosphere and service. I got the impression that no one of the staff wanted to be there. I'm sure there are people who would want a job there and enjoy it. If staff don't want to be there, please don't turn up. We all work jobs that are at times challenging. I will think twice about spending my hard earned money there. The staff obviously don't want the customers there. They made that so clear.

We’ve been a few times over the past few months, at different times of the morning and evening—so we’ve seen the store at various levels of busy and quiet. In the late mornings, staff have often left our coffee’s sitting for 15-20 mins until we ask about our order. They then say the kitchen is very busy and yet somehow a minute later, magically, out come our two coffees. How were the coffee’s already done if the kitchen is too busy to do them? They’ve been left to go cold and obviously ignored. That’s been pretty common, unfortunately. We’ve also had multiple instances of food being left out of a takeaway order, so make sure to check before you leave. It’s a 50/50 chance that something will be forgotten or left off what you’ve asked for. And our orders are standard things. We don’t make any big or complex changes. Also, we’ve had to sort of force the staff to talk to us when we have an issue as they tend to walk past or ignore you. Basically, we’ve found first thing in the morning for coffee or a quiet breakfast to be the best experience here. It’s a very small restaurant and once it starts to get a little busy, it’s chaos. It could really improve a lot and be so much better. At the moment, I’m really disappointed in this restaurant but it has a lot of potential. Bottom line: right now it’s not the best McDonald’s experience you’re going to find in the midlands. But it does the job as long as you keep on top of any issues.

The food is tasty, if it actually arrives. Nearly 100% of the time we have ordered from McDonalds, multiple things have been wrong or missing. Even with as few as 2 people, they have forgotten burgers (the main component of a MEAL), chicken nuggets, everything. Literally we went through the drive through and they STILL got our order wrong! I have honestly never seen any other food place get orders wrong so constantly.

Food was ok . The toilets were absolutely disgusting. Not cleaned hand dryers not working. All the food bins were full and over flowing, it wasn't even that busy no floor safe the place was a mess. Really really poor standard.

I’ve been trying to get through to this McDonald’s phone the last 10 minutes. No one has answered. I’ve come to complain about my missing item but can’t get through to anyone?? They always miss items here even when we were the only people in the place. Completely sick and tired of losing money

Never thought I would have to ask for a refund in MCDONALDS! Me and my family went in for breakfast and ordered our food. I wouldn’t call it fast food as it took forever to come. This has to be the slowest McDonald’s ever. Bear in mind it was not busy at all. The workers were just hanging around. I ordered a coffee and it just tasted foul I didn’t say anything and just ordered a medium Diet Coke and a large Coke Zero. They took 10 MINUTES. I had to go up and ask for my drinks. I’m sorry but it doesn’t take much energy or time to push a button. Once I had received them they were wrong. I kindly went up and asked them to be fixed. The man had an attitude and gave me the new drinks. He gave me a full sugar coke and a Coke Zero in a sticky and dirty cup. Totally wrong, my father has diabetes so can’t even drink the coke, I had to go and ask for a refund because I was just done at this point.

If I had my way, I wouldn't even have given 1 star. Received our order and half the order was missing. We left a note on the order to ensure all the order was there before being delivered. Absolute joke. Spoke to a "Craig" from McDonald's and he was completely useless and unhelpful. He had an attitude on the phone and didn't even apologise for the mix-up. Kept making up excuses and blaming JustEat. Please avoid with all costs. Staff don't care and won't help. Should be retrained. Disgraceful.

Yelp
We really called in to use the wifi and the toilets as this type of fatty fast food is not my idea of eating out and the price of a meal is far too high for what it is. I mean a portion of fries in a medium meal wouldn't amount to a potato. There's about four ounces of relatively cheap minced beef in a Big Mac and the dehydrated onions, pickle, lettuce and bread must amount to just a few pence. Their wifi was fast and their toilets are guaranteed clean. The server was really friendly too; its one of the certainties in most of Ireland a genuine warmth and mega friendly welcomes. We had a fairly alright latte and cappuccino at €2 a piece. These are not premium coffees and this price like the food is pitched at the upper end, if they increased the price any more then it would be Costa or Starbucks.

Yelp
Tablets have no Google play store. Can't install PUBG, food is cold. 0/10 via McDonald's tablet.
