McDonald’s Will Get Rid of Plastic Toys in Happy Meals by 2025 | Eater

"Long a global pioneer of the grab-and-go fast-food model, this multinational chain popularized single-use plastic in restaurants and introduced the Happy Meal with a small plastic toy in 1979; it now sells about 1 billion Happy Meals per year. Facing criticism and research linking it to a disproportionate share of coastal plastic pollution in the U.K., the company pledged in 2018 that all packaging would be recycled or otherwise sustainable by 2025 and has set targets to reduce carbon emissions by 2030. In response to rising customer demand for climate-consciousness, it plans to remove 90% of virgin fossil-fuel-based plastic from Happy Meal toys by 2025—replacing them with paper, cardboard puzzles, and figurines—and says the change is cost-neutral and equivalent to 650,000 people stopping their annual plastic use; the chain has already cut toy plastic by roughly 30% in the U.K., Ireland, and France since 2018. Critics note the company’s historical role in driving single-use consumption, question how promised emission cuts will be enforced across suppliers that lack reporting or targets, and argue that these largely reactive, incremental shifts may be insufficient given the scale and urgency of the climate crisis." - Elazar Sontag

I'm not one to leave negative reviews, but this was the most disgusting McDonald's I've ever visited. The floor was greasy and slippery as if they used the mop out of the kitchen covered in cooking grease. Toilets smelled like cat piss and didn't even want to breathe inside there. I ordered the pancakes and sausage with syrup for me partner. After hitting the road she opened the dish all there was was 3 ice cold pancakes, no syrup and no sausage. Absolutely appalling. Staff couldn't be bothered either, absolutely no customer service. Pure dirt!

Honestly, it’s the worse McDonald’s I’ve been too. Newbridge and Naas are much better compared to portlaoise. They would feel bad giving you the right amount of toppings on a McFlurry. Often got a pie from here that has been sold an hour or two past by when it should have been discarded. The chips never taste as good as other McDonald’s, like they’re not salted and stale at times even, on a good day they're still not as tasty as other McDonald’s for some odd reason. Tonight, they got our food wrong as usual and also gave us a chicken sandwich that didn’t look fully done. There’s no point in saying anything the place is completely mismanaged and no one cares.

We were the only customers in the entire place yet they can’t make a simple order correctly. Between several missing items, and not one item arriving as ordered, it is genuinely the worst McDonald’s chain we have ever had the discomfort of eating in. We also had to leave to eat in our car due to the lack of cleanliness of the tables and chairs.

I waited 25 minutes for a breakfast. Staff said they were waiting on eggs. When I got my mcmuffin it was burnt.

Mismanaged. The machine gives no receipt and leaves you wondering whether you’ll get your food. Food arrived without any paper napkins or a fork for the salad. Maybe one is supposed to eat it with one’s hands? Salad ordered with dressing. First they told me they ran out of said dressing but then it appeared out of nowhere. It took me good four times to get up from my table to sort everything out that should’ve been sorted by them. Update: got up to dump my trash only to discover that they don’t bother compacting it in the bin, it overflows. Sigh.

Disrespectful arrogant delivery driver. Stoped at my place for 3 second without getting out of the white car just pulled down the window. Accusing me of shouting on him while I called him back after his missed call while I was opening outside door as I got notification from my camera. Calling me names as “sister”. What?! WHO sister I’m am to that person to calling me names like that! Worse was, he asked me to come down to 97 number!! What!? You’re paid for the delivery not for my collection! 5-7 min driving around my state from his first stop at my place. All is recorded on outdoors cctv.

We’ve been a few times over the past few months, at different times of the morning and evening—so we’ve seen the store at various levels of busy and quiet. In the late mornings, staff have often left our coffee’s sitting for 15-20 mins until we ask about our order. They then say the kitchen is very busy and yet somehow a minute later, magically, out come our two coffees. How were the coffee’s already done if the kitchen is too busy to do them? They’ve been left to go cold and obviously ignored. That’s been pretty common, unfortunately. We’ve also had multiple instances of food being left out of a takeaway order, so make sure to check before you leave. It’s a 50/50 chance that something will be forgotten or left off what you’ve asked for. And our orders are standard things. We don’t make any big or complex changes. Also, we’ve had to sort of force the staff to talk to us when we have an issue as they tend to walk past or ignore you. Basically, we’ve found first thing in the morning for coffee or a quiet breakfast to be the best experience here. It’s a very small restaurant and once it starts to get a little busy, it’s chaos. It could really improve a lot and be so much better. At the moment, I’m really disappointed in this restaurant but it has a lot of potential. Bottom line: right now it’s not the best McDonald’s experience you’re going to find in the midlands. But it does the job as long as you keep on top of any issues.

Yelp
We really called in to use the wifi and the toilets as this type of fatty fast food is not my idea of eating out and the price of a meal is far too high for what it is. I mean a portion of fries in a medium meal wouldn't amount to a potato. There's about four ounces of relatively cheap minced beef in a Big Mac and the dehydrated onions, pickle, lettuce and bread must amount to just a few pence. Their wifi was fast and their toilets are guaranteed clean. The server was really friendly too; its one of the certainties in most of Ireland a genuine warmth and mega friendly welcomes. We had a fairly alright latte and cappuccino at €2 a piece. These are not premium coffees and this price like the food is pitched at the upper end, if they increased the price any more then it would be Costa or Starbucks.

Yelp
Tablets have no Google play store. Can't install PUBG, food is cold. 0/10 via McDonald's tablet.
