McDougal’s Saucy Fried Chicken Tenders are Coming to Edgehill - Eater Nashville

"McDougal’s Chicken Fingers and Wings is expanding to Edgehill in 2020. The new location will span 2,800-square-feet at the southwest corner of 12th and South streets. The restaurant, known for its sauce-drenched fried fowl, wings, and sandwiches, has been based in Hillsboro Village since 2004 and added a West Nashville location on White Bridge in 2015. It offers counter-service with grilled options, salads, and a variety of dipping sauces." - Delia Jo Ramsey

Google
Nice atmosphere and good customer service. The food was good and fresh. The French fries reminded me of “Five Guys” style, so a little spice but not overwhelming. The tenders (fingers) were good quality. Got them tossed in original buffalo, gold, and honeybee. Definitely recommend the honeybee! Will visit again.

Walking around, I notice a line of people standing outside. This place must have just opened. My curiosity got the best of me. The menu is un full display in the line and also behind the cashier. This is a card only. Don't rely on cash transactions. My food was ordered and was given a number. The food didn't take long to make. I saw nothing but smiles and everyone getting along. I can see the summer being a hut place. If you want to eat outside, they'll have that option as well. I did enjoy the food and would recommend coming back here.

Was in Nashville for a girls weekend trip. We came here for some hot chicken and it was absolutely delicious! Couldn't get over how delicious the chicken was. The vibes of the place were awesome too. If I ever end up back in Nashville I would 100% go back!!

I don't know why I did it to myself. Tear jerker brought all the tears. The sause was hot. But what made it difficult was the quantity of sause to finger. It was swimming.

Google
Hours incorrect online: I went to McDougal’s looking for the best chicken fingers in Nashville. The hours posted on google are 9PM close and 10PM for takeout on Saturday. I arrived at 7:45PM and was told the restaurant was closed in a rather rude and demeaning way by the individual at the register. Disappointing experience to say the least.

Google
What an enjoyable place for a late night snack! The honey bee sauce is to die for! The atmosphere is quite nostalgic and a bit eclectic. Service was great and it took a good amount of time to get our wings which says to me that they’re fresh and cooked to order! I love it!! Will definitely be back!

Google
I recommend getting tenders with sauce on the side. The fries are the BEST. The chicken was great but WOW amazing fries. Really cool atmosphere with unique artwork and relaxed vibe.

Google
This place never disappoints! Some of the best chicken in Nashville for sure! A variety of sauces to choose from, you can go fried or grilled, dipped or plain, and their hand cut style french fries are on point!

Yelp
McDougal's has been my go-to chicken since my Vanderbilt days. I remember us walking to the old McDougal's location in HIllsboro Village more often than I can count. Since then, it has been a request of everyone's return visit to Nashville - while also loved by the new people we bring too! The new location on 12th Ave S does have a little less charm than the OG, I won't lie, but it makes up for it in more abundant seating. I love the new large patio! You can always find a great table - even for bigger groups. The service is always speedy! It probably helps that I always go in knowing what I already want - a small finger basket with Ole Smoky and McDougal's sauce! That's the best combo in my opinion! You may be hearing all the hype about hot chicken but don't sleep on this Nashville staple.

Yelp
Gotta get chicken when in Nashville! McDougal's is a local favorite- chicken can be grilled or fried! Lots of dips available as well so take your pick! My fried chicken sandwich on Tennessee toast was perfect esp loved the pickles and fries in my meal. Don't forget the sweet tea as well! Service was friendly & good and restaurant was clean - loved the patio with red umbrellas as well!

Yelp
I'm so happy I made a stop this way. McDougal's seems like a local favorite. Their 'mild' has a certain kick, so if you're new to spicy like me, stick with that. And if you're fond of the taste of mustard, people rave about their "gold sauce" in other reviews online. I was a little disappointed that my plate did not include the celery & carrots as advertised. I kind of need raw vegetables to wash down all of that savory goodness.

Yelp
Last time I went to McDougals was at their OG location years ago. This location makes it just as good as I remember. Gold sauce is still 100% my fav dipping sauce, and the chicken tenders are as juicy and crispy as always. I love that there's an outdoor seating area in addition to the spacious indoor seats. Food came out fast and fresh.

Yelp
Great take out option! No photos because I was that hungry. The honey bee option is just enough sweet with a slight touch of heat. I had a large plate with grilled tenders, bread and fries. I did not eat the bread as I am allergic to dairy and eggs! I highly recommend the plate based upon the portion size, taste and great fresh cut fries!

Yelp
At the time of this writing, the original McDougal's on Belcourt was recovering from fire damage, the Brentwood McDougal's was still under construction, and the other stores that once extended deep into Williamson County were long closed. So this was the only extant member of the franchise at which I could get my fix of those incredible McDougal's chicken tenders! And it was not disappointing in the least! There is something this Nashville icon does perfectly that nobody else can replicate. It's the batter! Super crispy, but thin and crumbly, you'll watch flakes of beautiful batter drop onto your plate as you sink your teeth into the most tender, juicy chicken you could ever imagine. These are unequivocally the best chicken fingers in the Nashville metropolitan area! The fries are fresh cut daily and delicious, although a little soggy. The multitude of sauces are always freshly made. This is the only location that does not offer free ice cream, but that's okay. The patio they're currently renovating is going to beat all ground-level outdoor spaces in the city!

Yelp
Cool venue, although a bit pricey. Just stopped by try it so I didn't order a lot. Only a chicken sandwich which consisted of two chicken tenders, lettuce and pickles. Total cost after tax was $9.82. Served on Texas Toast and i noticed they were generous with the pickles, which were also thick. I don't think any extra charge for a side of ranch, or if there was it wasn't mentioned. Overall it was good if you're looking to try a new chicken place, just a bit steep on the pricing. If it was a few dollars less I could see myself visiting all the time. Nice outdoor area, too.

Yelp
had the chicken finger sandwich basket with gold and honeybee sauce and it was to die for! great service, 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
Vibe was fun. A good place to get a few beers with the boys. Chicken was good but felt pricey. With that consideration not sure I could recommend over nearby chicken places. Service was a non factor as you go up to the counter to order/pay.

Brad W.

Yelp
The food is good here but it is insanely over priced for fried chicken. Service is fine, nothing special. Ambiance could be better if the all the TVs worked.

Yelp
McDougal's Chicken is consistently the most delicious, juicy and mouth-watering fried chicken in Nashville. I went frequently when I was at Vanderbilt 5-6 years ago and it is still the best chicken in town, in my humble opinion. Hattie B's just has the tourist hype. The fried basket is a staple and I would recommend getting a number of different sauces as they all go well with the chicken and fries. The outside seating area is very spacious with picnic tables and buckets of paper towels to use as napkins. They have a small stage for live singing, however I wasn't there when it was in use. To the business owners - If it makes sense, it would be great to be able to request packets of sanitary hand wipes at the counter for those messy eaters (guilty)

Yelp
The best chicken and fries place that always gets the job done! What makes this fried chicken so great and special is that they fry it not once, but twice! This is what makes it so crispy every time! I usually go with a small plate since that is enough food for one. I always get the tenders fried and with sauces on the side. My favorite sauces are Gold and their BBQ. Their fries are nice and fresh, and they are perfect dipped in some ketchup or one of their other sauces. There is nothing here that you have to worry about if you have a peanut allergy, and they offer their tenders grilled if you are gluten free. This restaurant will take longer than a normal fast food restaurant because they fry everything to order, so your chicken and fries are fresh and piping hot when they come to your table. I ordered here recently to go and it was fantastic as always. You can never get enough McDougals!

Yelp
Greasy chicken full of gristle. Hours of operation are inaccurate as they close whenever they feel like it. There are numerous better chicken joints in this area.

Yelp
Standard fare southern fried chicken chain near the Gulch. We came here immediately after landing in Nashville for a late lunch and sat in the back patio. It was pretty busy even at 2 pm, but the serving time wasn't bad considering the number of people waiting in line. I got the fried chicken sandwich, which came on two slices of toast. It was pretty solid, but nothing worth writing home about. Other people got fried chicken baskets with fries or salad and Texas toast.

Yelp
This was one of the wildest takeout experiences I have had in Nashville. I ordered a platter of 25 chicken fingers and a small platter of fries to feed 6 adults and 6 kids. And it was well over $200. Service charges added on. Over $100 for the fingers, $75 for the fries and then large extra charges. It barely fed 5 adults and 6 kids at a price point of $20 a head, kids included. For chicken fingers and fries. I was stunned. I will never go back. Crazy town.

Yelp
Simple menu, exceptional staff! They accommodated our group of 12 at the last minute and every single meal was delicious and timely. I was skeptical as a vegetarian, but I had options! And my friends enjoyed the chicken. Take a moment to browse the walls and get some silly photos of all the memories that have been collected. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting Nash for the first time- really any time!

Yelp
McDougal's came highly recommended from a few locals on my flight. After I landed in Nashville, set my bags at my Airbnb and went; it did not disappoint! Upon entering, we were greeted with a friendly southern salutation and given time to make a decision on our order. I went with the Medley Basket in order to get both chicken tenders and wings. The tenders were soaked in buttermilk and fried before being tossed in their signature Gold Sauce. A combination or Buffalo and honey mustard, an homage to the childhood sauce concoctions I'd make at restaurants. The wings were double fried and extra crispy. The creamy ranch enhanced the melody of flavors as my taste buds literally got lost in the sauce.

Yelp
They are super nice and food never disappoints :) service is immaculate. beautiful place to sit outside or inside.

Yelp
I was on vacation with my family. I enjoyed the food here and all of the Elvis stuff that they had. There was a lot going on with the walls inside this cool place which I found interesting.

Yelp
Chicken was great... I got the Honey Bee dip, it was sticky and delicious. The fries were delicious. The service was faster than I expected since I was at the end of the line.

Yelp
Used to LOVE this place. I used to come here weekly, but I can officially say that is not the case anymore. The quality of the food is lacking, with their once delicious fries now being served soggy and season-less. As the quality of their food has decreased over the last year, their wallet has not. This company ranks up the prices almost every other month, it's disgusting. With the small basket once sitting at $9.82 after tax, it is now over 14 and even doesn't include a drink. Now for their service, what used to once be a chill atmosphere is now rude and infuriating. The dude at the register never answers the phone for Togo orders. I've seen him repeatedly pick up the phone once it rings, mute the phone and set it back down and walk away multiple times. Not only have I seen it, but after being on the other line and being ignored consistently, I'm pretty pissed off with McDougal's customer service. I also can't forget to mention, the way the workers barely flip the checkout screen over so they have a whole view of whether you tip or not. This tip peeping is petty behavior especially for a business that can clearly afford to pay their workers a decent wage. What used to be my favorite restaurant has gone extremely downhill, and I'm super disappointed. 1/10 don't recommend giving this business any more of your money, they don't deserve it.

Sam P.

Yelp
I've been a regular here for a long time and unfortunately the quality of the food and customer service has just continually diminished. I usually order via telephone and now I (and several friends) continually get a message that the phone is unavailable or it just rings. On one occasion, I went in on a day it had been ringing for me and called while I was in the store. I watched the employee pick the phone up and silence it. My final complaint is that the cost just continually seems to go up almost every time I go in.

Yelp
They're closed through January 2nd. Update your hours so customers aren't inconvenienced. Your tenders are damn good...I'm so mad.

Sachie S.

Yelp
They have a nice outside seating area, I'm a first-time Nashville visitor, and it was a little pricey but yummy. I'll go back when I visit Nashville again.

Yelp
Amazing chicken! Bought a quick 5 piece for 3 of us as a snack but the pieces are so generous that we were full. So crispy too! Way better than Hattie b, that places is way overhyped

Monica B.

Yelp
SO GOOD!! I got the Buffalo chicken which was incredible and the perfect amount of heat! I was bummed they didn't have fried pickles but their fresh pickles were great and matched well with their iconic house sauce and chicken!! Would totally go back!

Hamza I.

Yelp
The food was fresh , and the employees were super nice, my kids even got complimentary drinks beacause we had ordered a lit extra. I would definitely eat here again. Nice place and great people.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite restaurant in Nashville...but I can't say that it is anymore. The food used to be such good quality and the customer service used to be superb. The food has only gone DOWN in quality and UP in price. And the customer service is HORRIBLE! They never answer the phone and half the time the phone is disconnected so you can't place to go orders. I really wish this place was what it used to be. Sad to see a Nashville staple go down hill like this.

Yelp
Really tasty chicken tenders. This place recently opened (I guess they have a couple other locations in Nashville) and it is really good. They have all sorts of different homemade sauces that you can get mixed in with your chicken and/or dip it in. Really cute beer garden in the back with nice lights and seating. Not too full since it just opened and seems like most people don't know about it yet. Limited parking though

Yelp
I can not recommend this place enough. Huge portions and best bang for your buck. Fried tenders are phenomenal! They usually give me 4 when I order 3 (not sure if this is standard or the cook is just feeling generous, but it keeps me coming back!). Great beer selection and they even have bushwackers. Outdoor patio is a nice touch. Great service and friendly staff.
