Yelp
3 stars for me but most likely 4 or 5 stars if you like Sports Bars and live in the neighborhood.
What is not to love about Mcgillacuddys? You say you want to watch a game? Well this is the place, they have TVs for that. Lots and lots of TVs, so many TVs that each booth has its own TV in addition to the many other TVs positioned around the walls, and often located just above your heads for the other nearby tables to see the game. All sizes of TVs, so if you like to watch a big screen TV, they've got that, if you prefer a mid size, no worries, they've got that too. I did not use the bathroom on this visit, but it is probably the only place you can rest your eyes and not see a TV (unless, horror of horrors, they have TVs in the facilities too.)
Want booze, beer and food? They've got food, more than some of their competitors and maybe a little less than others, but basically a fairly fine selection for your dining, munching and drinking pleasure.
Cons for me and my friends who purely went for Wednesday night Trivia (because one of our team members is always driving far from home to play with us, so we wanted to support him by playing in his neck of the woods): It is crowded and loud, possibly a bit lean on the staffing. Oh and did I fail to convey that although fairly easy to get to from closer in, a straight shot off 84 onto Halsey, drive about 1/2 mile, and there it is in all of it's glory, it's 10 miles from my neck of the woods, and except for our team mate I do not need to drive 10 miles to play Trivia with so many TVs. They do have a parking lot but it is small, and there is street parking, but there are patrons of other businesses vying for these places too.
Speaking of Patrons, I did like the feel of the crowd, a very real feeling crowd. All ages, not a pick up joint, no one was scary, and no one was trying to impress anyone, seemed like the kind of people that would be fun to hang out with at a backyard BBQ.
A few of us ordered the "All you can eat" Fish and Chips for $9.50 which is kinda silly on my part because it was all I could possibly eat, 3 big & pretty darn good pieces of Fish and some good tasting, but a bit soggy, Chips. The tarter sauce was good, and I am not generally a fan, the lemon wedge was generous in size too. Next time I would order the regular Fish and Chips for $9 because it actually comes with a salad or soup and 4 pieces of Fish, but it is .50 cheaper and is going to be much more than I can ever eat. The "Chef" salad looked passable, although just. The soda machine must have been in need of service because we had to send the fizzy brown drinks back for tasting funny, the water, beer and ice tea were all drinkable.
So to sum this rambling review up: "A-OK" for me, and "As good as it gets" for local Sports Fans.
