Returned to Cape May after several years and made it a point to eat lunch at McGlade's on the Pier. Everything was as good as I remembered: cheerful staff, delicious food (I had a tuna melt with fries and carrot cake), and lovely view of the beach from a screen-covered porch allowing the refreshing sea air to add to the refreshing effect. Server was very pleasant and efficient, juggling several tables with ease. I will definitely return on my next trip to Cape May.

Google
The food was great, Our server Zach recommended the Apple walnut bread French toast and it was one of the best French toast I have ever had. My husband had an omelet that made to ordered and he also loved it, probably because it had pork roll in it. Next time we are back in Cape May we will be back

Google
Love! Love! Love! This place. Not only is the view spectacular but the food and service match. High quality ingredients every meal. Everyone working provides great service! Thank you Maddie!

Google
McGlades was great. We had a big family get-together and celebrated my Moms 90th birthday. The food was great, and the location on the beach made it all the more better. We will definitely be going back. 👍 We had another family get-together at McGlades 8/8/2024. Sadly, Mom is now in Heaven ❤️🙏. We sat at the same table we did with Mom, and everything was great.

Google
Seafood breakfast was exactly what the doctor ordered. Lump crab meat omelets-delish. Pretty simple menu. Great breakfast options. Fresh fruit and toast were also great. Can't beat the view.. a must visit breakfast apot when in Cape May!

Google
We loved the food and the atmosphere. I would recommend getting here when they open. Saturday morning was already a bit of a wait to get in. Great staff and service!

Google
Great brunch with beautiful views of the beach. Server and host were kind and incredibly accommodating for our group of 6!

Google
Wow is this place great! The prices average around the $30 mark, but they give you bread, large portions, and mashed potatoes w/veggies (unless otherwise specified like for the pastas). Service is top notch, the view is the beautiful ocean, they have space for large parties of 10, and just in general the meal was flawless. Best grilled salmon I’ve also had which is saying a lot. Pro tip - the entrance is on the side between two buildings so as you walk back towards the beach/water look for the entrance at the end of the building on your left hand side. This means when you eat you can basically be feet away from the beach if you’d like.

Yelp
Great view. Comfortable seating. Nice prices for a resort. In my mind I don't need anything else. We had lunch one day and breakast another day. The coffee and iced tea were good. Breakfast items were varied. Lunchtime was relaxing with our 2 seafood entrees. Can't go wrong here.

Yelp
Maybe it's my lifelong aversion to breakfast. Maybe it's the cloudy, rainy weather. Or maybe It's McGlades. What I do know is, it's an hour I won't get back. We came here at 10 AM for breakfast. There was a wait but it was not terrible. Once seated, it took a long time to be even acknowledged, let alone given water. Waiter said he would be with us in a minute, so at least we knew we had one. At long last we ordered--eggs over easy and bacon for me, omellette for my wife. She said the omellette was good. I found the eggs and bacon very underwhelming--just meh. Seated on plastic chairs, with bent silverware, basically on the beach. Probably would make a better beach dive bar than breakfast spot. My advice is go to Mad Batter, George's or Uncle Bill's (in that order) before you stoop to the level of McGlade's. Would be a 2 for me; wife says three--overall a solid 2.5.

Yelp
McGlades is the BEST place to get omelettes in Cape May in my opinion!!!! Getting breakfast and seeing the beach is the best way to start the day. The omelettes and clear glass cups of coffee are my favorite on an early morning.
google avatar

Heather S.

Yelp
Stopped by this hidden restaurant while visiting Cape May. The views here are great- prime view of the beach. Our server was nice and attentive. I got a tomato, egg and cheese on a croissant which was pretty good. Sandwiches come with fruit instead of potatoes or fries which was different. Overall I'd come back if I was in the area!

Yelp
Ok, have decided I love this place and it's a classic and great breakfast spot. Smack on the beach. Simple American breakfast; omelettes, waffles, French toast, eggs any way, sides of bacon and scrapple. Service was good and wasn't busy early. Unlimited coffee refills. Classic US diner feel. Parking out front is free before 10am.

Yelp
Tasty breakfast!!! Worth a visit while on vacation in Cape May. Big portions but very tasty. Service was attentive as well.

Scott P.

Yelp
Food was great staff was awesome was off time of year but still great. We had great seafood and drinks

Yelp
Right on the beach! In $9 got two French toasts with a side of fruits - a small slice of watermelon, musk melon, orange.

Yelp
We've been going to McGlade's for over 30 years. Can't beat a front row seat to the beach! The food is consistently good. My husband loves the TJ omelette with shrimp and crab, cheddar cheese and garlic. Last time I was there I ordered the special which was french toast made with a strawberry peach bread. It was fabulous! The service is excellent!!

Pammie P.

Yelp
Yum! Arrived for breakfast on a Monday morning, just a short while after the restaurant had opened. Good thing we got there early, as the place started to pick up very soon after we'd gotten our meals. What a beautiful spot to have breakfast, with a nice view of the beach, delicious food, and friendly, attentive staff. Their omelettes are so good. I love bacon, so I ordered bacon & cheese omelette, which promised "tons of bacon." They were not kidding. And the bacon was well done, as I'd asked, and there was a lot of it. It was delish! I also appreciated the coffee refills without my having to request them. This is THE place to go for breakfast at Cape May beach.

Yelp
Not good at all, except for location. Dinner was subpar..... loaf of white bread, and entrees served with white mashed potatoes and soggy vegetable. Fish was limited and not the best quality (surprised if caught locally. If so, when ?). Much better places to dine in the area.

Yelp
Small town feel to the place which I loved. Arrived closer to 8am and was seated immediately. Rode my bike rental and didn't have to worry about metered street parking. The sausage and home fries in the Uncle Pete omelette was delicious. Good: -Uncle Pete Omelette was GREAT -Bacon & Cheese Omelette -Fruit plate was mountainous and fresh -Great location right on the beach -8am-8:30am, there is plenty of seating -Food comes out very fast -Big portions Bad: -None

Yelp
Right on the sand! Really fresh crab salad platter with lots of fresh veggies and fruit and delicious homemade potato salad on the side. Service was good and friendly. Family vibe. My husband went for the chili cheese dog and fries and said it was one of the best ever.

Karen F.

Yelp
Went for breakfast and seating and service were quick. Food came out quickly and met our expectations. Server was pleasant and attentive

Beth N.

Yelp
Beautiful combintion egg and sandwiched options for breakfast and such a fun spot right on the beach. We go everytime we're in Cape May.

Princy S.

Yelp
Very disappointed in this place, apart from the views. We came in for dinner with young children (babies who were well behaved) and were treated as an inconvenience from the beginning. The hostess/owner was not at all welcoming. The waitress was extremely rude and short with us the entire time. For how expensive the dishes were, they were completely bland. My sister, who is from out of state, thought this horrible experience was an east coast thing. We are still trying to convince her otherwise, especially in Cape May! Needless to say, we will not be back to McGlade's.

Joan C.

Yelp
Great view, pleasant service. Came for dinner. Food quality just so so and prices pretty high considering amount of food served. May give another try in future but there are better nearby choices.

M M.

Yelp
Hidden gem!! Literally on the beach! Lovely breeze!!!! Great views!!! Breakfast--so good! Had a veggie omelet-came with toast, cantaloupe, orange slices. Kids had French toast (huge!) and waffle (huge!) one down side-no pancakes on the menu. Frequent coffee and water refills!! Friendly staff!!!! Will be back!!!! 3 adults 3 kids drinks coffee --$99!! Very reasonable prices!! We will be back!

Narisa B.

Yelp
we came here twice because the breakfast waffles were just too good! staff is friendly and the best part is essentially being able to eat on the beach!

Yelp
(Honestly more like a 3.5-average between 3 for meal and 4 for waitstaff/location.) My mother and I had dinner at this classic BYOB Cape May restaurant. We have been here quite a few times over the years. The hostess was very welcoming and the location is great! Our waiter Zach was very friendly and attentive, despite how many tables he was waiting on. Both the view and the waitstaff were the stars of this meal! We had one order of the Key Largo Grouper and one order of the Shrimp Scampi--both came with corn, mixed veggies, and mashed potatoes. (I requested the change to mashed potatoes instead of rice or pasta.) Both were fine enough, but lacked presentation and some flavor based on the price point. By this point during our week long trip, we had eaten out at numerous restaurants, including seafood, and this was the most expensive. We also ordered dessert to go--Blueberry Pie and Carrot Cake. Again, fine enough, but nothing to rave about.

Zuska S.

Yelp
This hidden gem is wonderful! Don't miss the excellent breakfast served with care and efficiency. I had the best link sausage and a crispy waffle. My companion thoroughly enjoyed Italian bread French toast and wonderful scrapple. Our only regret was it was our last day in Cape May and we only discovered this excellent restaurant on the beachfront. We liked McGlades so much we took lunch with us for our 6 hour drive home! Gina our waitress gave us hot coffee to go and the owner an extra piece of key lime pie. The burger was fresh ground beef expertly seasoned. The tuna melt made with albacore, was luscious. Home grown tomatoes on both kicked the flavor up a notch. Visiting in late September means NcGlades serves breakfast and lunch only. We can't wait to come back during the summer season for what looks to be a most excellent dinner menu. We love you McGlades!

Yelp
I had big expectations with the reviews but was let down with our lunch. The burger was over cooked and dry. The crab cake was extremely small.

Allison D.

Yelp
Great value and the classic breakfast beach spot. Loved that it's family owned and you can feel it with our waitress being the niece of the owner. The omelet variety was unique and perfect. I loved the crepe like consistency that made sure you weren't overpowered by too many eggs. Perfect views being right on the beach too! Can't believe it too is this long in our travels to try this Cape May spot but we will be back for sure!

Yelp
We stopped here for an early morning breakfast on a Saturday at Cape May. Location, location, location...this place is right on the water! My wife and I ordered a special, the banana bread French Toast. It was fantastic! I really loved the service. Our server took the time to go over the specials and really cared how we liked the food. I definitely recommend this restaurant. It was quiet at 8am on a September Saturday, but I'm told that in season, there's a long line to get in.

Harriet J.

Yelp
Another Cape May restaurant that doesn't tell you about their credit card fee! Edited to add - By law they must post information on the menu https://www.njspotlightnews.org/2023/08/nj-tightens-rules-for-merchants-requires-transparency-for-credit-card-swipe-fees/ We had a nice lunch - the blueberry waffle was great and my omelette was very good. However, the potatoes (which were listed as home fries on the menu) were overcooked. I handed over my credit card. Then when I compared the receipt to the original bill there was a discrepancy. Turns out there is a 3% fee that is not stated until AFTER they run your card. I talked to our very nice server who refunded the credit card so I could pay cash. I don't think restaurants understand how aggravating this is. If they were open about it I would not mind paying it, but it is the secrecy that makes me angry.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in Cape May, I like to eat at McGlade's on the Pier. The food is good and the "on the beach" location and the secret-only-if-you-ask-for-it chocolate chip cookie in a skillet for dessert is what makes it special. We forgot to make a reservation so showed up and were told we had a 45 minute wait for a party of five. This was not a problem as there happened to be a pod of porpoises cavorting off the beach right in front of McGlades which helped pass the time and we also had a bench to sit on while we waited. The tables outside (we were seated along the corridor alongside the restaurant, not on their enclosed screen porch) were appropriately socially distanced and the waitstaff all wore masks and were very attentive. I ordered the Key Largo grouper with crab meat and lemon sauce (I asked for rice pilaf instead of mashed potatoes) and the vegetables of the night. I've always enjoyed this dish although this time the rice was weirdly crunchy at times. Two of my kids ordered the stir fry and also experienced weird crunchy rice (not inedible, just surprising). My husband enjoyed his broiled scallops and my daughter liked her dish as well (I can't remember what she ordered). The fried calamari starter was good but not the best we've ever had. The thing that boosts this food review to a 4* is the skillet chocolate chip cookie dessert with ice cream. It's not on the menu so you need to know to order it when you first sit down as it takes 20 minutes to prepare and you need to be flexible about the timing (our three teenage/young adult kids don't mind waiting for an excellent dessert). Overall, while it is a bit pricey, I would recommend going to McGlade's for dinner or lunch when you're in Cape May - and be sure to get the special secret dessert!

Yelp
Decent place to grab a bite. Nothing fancy and not too expensive. Family friendly place
google avatar

Meg S.

Yelp
Not good for groups, not good for kids. Not allowed to bring in strollers, kids menu is $20/plate, no diaper changer in the restrooms, and when you bring in kids you are reminded to keep them quiet. Overpriced for average food, sitting on cheap plastic patio chairs.

Yelp
When we're in Cape May we stay close to Howard and that's where you'll find us on the beach. McGlades is a staple for the area and it's always good. Today I ventured off my usuals and tried Veggie 2. It was perfect beach food! Whole wheat bread, cream cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, avocado, bean sprouts, and brown mustard. Just go back and re-read that again. I'll wait. Ok, here's the rest. It was AMAZING. I have a new favorite. Plus our server Zack shifted gears for us seamlessly. We initially sat and then decided to do take out. No problem! Here's the food packed to go, to go cups for our drinks, even plastic wear to eat with. Zack, McGlades, and Veggie 2 made my day!
google avatar

Candace M.

Yelp
This is Cape May's best kept secret for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is hidden in a nook near the convention center. The food is awesome, views are great, service is always good. It's no frills with great food. Their omelets and french toast are amazing!!
google avatar

Kathy G.

Yelp
The view is amazing and food is too! It is beach pricing so expect that. The service is better than it has been in previous visits here.

Sara S.

Yelp
The outdoor seating area was nice and breezy with great views, and the service was fast. But our lunch was a solid three stars. We ordered the seafood combo platter and the grilled fish platter, and the seafood was actually two scoops of seafood salad, served on a bed of iceberg lettuce. It wasn't bad, but most people could make it better at home. The lettuce and fruit had also some brown spots. Skip this place and try the Cape May Fish Market for lunch instead.
google avatar

Thomas A.

Yelp
Being a starch fiend I judge a place by their home fries and this place nails them. Unfortunately the Mrs. wasn't impressed (with her omelet) and only wanted to give 2-stars, the kids 3 (for their choices). But I'm the Yelper here and I'm going with 4 (for the waffle and assorted fruit). A stunning view of the beach and ocean to watch the early birds (both the actual birds and the people up early to go yoga or run or just enjoy themselves with a walk) - on top of a cool staff, good coffee and big portions - all the while being protected by netting and a roof? Solid.

Anne D.

Yelp
It's never a good start to your dining experience when the hostess is bordering on militant. If you manage to be in her good graces you actually seem to get attentive service as we witnessed others receive. Our waitress was pleasant and helpful but the restaurant was not full and we still had long waits for our apps and meal. The food was fine but not spectacular for the prices we paid. We will not be returning.

Mindya B.

Yelp
Absolutely awful. Greeted by miserable old woman. Server missed an appetizer and an entree and was terribly slow. Way overpriced for bad food.

Paul C.

Yelp
Been coming here since I was a kid when the ocean was spraying beneath the floorboards prior to the beach restoration. Happy to be back. Had the crab cake of course. Still one the best, simple crab cakes around. If it's your first time and you're looking for something fantasy, don't bother, you won't get it. Great for a quick lunch as you come off the beach. Great views.
google avatar

Sunny M.

Yelp
Food, super tasty. Service, super attentive and friendly. Nice view of the beach. A bit of a small space but they make it work. Give it a try...we tried all their crab dishes (yes, all) and loved them. Homemade desserts are excellent too...key lime pie, peanut butter pie....YES!

Michael S.

Yelp
Pricey for good not great. Waffle, French toast with a side of sausage, very small juice and a cup of coffee for $50 bucks is a little much if you ask me. Waffle was cooked well but french toast was heavy, soggy and dense. Definitely needed a little more time on the flattop. Server was pleasant and attentive. Overall a ho hum expensive experience and not McWorth it.
google avatar

Jilm J.

Yelp
best breakfast in cape may! beautiful view! incredible service! bacon aggie, banana nut waffle, french toast!

Grace G.

Yelp
Great food, great view, great staff! Definitely a restaurant you'll want to visit for an amazing oceanside dining experience!
google avatar

Stephanie O.

Yelp
Our server was wonderful, food came quickly and was delicious. And everything coming past me looked delicious too. I had French toast and Taylor ham, kids had chip waffle and blueberry waffle. My daughter said she never had so many chips in a waffle before and it was the best she ever hd
google avatar

Hannah M.

Yelp
My family vacations here every year, and the few people that get up early for breakfast (me and my dad) always end up here. Right on the beach and very relaxing, we love coming here very early when its super quiet still.
google avatar

Dave M.

Yelp
Still one of my favorite spots for breakfast in Cape May. Far and away the most creative omelets to choose from and the location simply can't be beat (right on the beach). Haven't ever had a problem getting a table quickly and service is solid. Coffee leaves a bit to be desired, but the Brain isn't far away for a good fix
google avatar

Benjamin K.

Yelp
Wanted to give this restaurant on the beach a five star review, really did. The service and staff were incredibly friendly, and really made my family feel welcome. Understandably, the food is expensive, because you are paying for the atmosphere directly on the beach location. That being said, the food was average at best. I definitely recommend going here on your visit to Cape May..... however, only once.

Emma L.

Yelp
Such a quaint and delicious beach front family-friendly restaurant. This place had great service and absolutely scrumptious meals! We were quickly seated and served. We ordered the banana nut waffle and eastern omelette which had bacon onion pepper and american cheese. Both came with a variety of nice and complementary sides. Food was also very affordable and I would definitely recommend it!
google avatar

J F.

Yelp
This place is known for its omelets. Try them, and you won't go wrong. Our server recommended them, and I took her up on the advice. I ordered the bacon and cheese omelette--the best I've ever had! It was also nice to eat with a cool ocean breeze blowing, making an excellent ambiance. The place serves breakfast until 2, so you can sleep a little in and still enjoy the restaurant's specialty. My wife had the crab cakes and was raving about them. To me, this was a great experience all around.
google avatar

Carley S.

Yelp
We went for breakfast. I had the omelet with crab and asparagus. For an upcharge I got goat cheese. It was good but I wasn't crazy about the potatoes. Service was good. The view is amazing. The food is a little pricey. The furniture is outdated. It's similar pricing to other amazing establishments like MadBatter, Harry's, Rio Station, etc. but without the alcohol. The view is amazing and the food is pretty good so if they made a couple of changes it would be a hot spot!
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
Yet another great meal at McGlades. We come every time we are in town and it never fails to please (except the one time we showed up and it was closed ). Go for the platters. My husband had the chicken salad platter and I had the shrimp salad platter. They were served on a bed of lettuce with tomato, cucumber, potato salad, cheese and fruit. I especially love the shrimp salad because it's light on the mayo. It's the perfect beach food. Can't beat the view from the back deck. You can listen to the waves crash as you nosh.
google avatar

Wayne S.

Yelp
Our entire family loves McGlades. We have been going for years. They have the best view in town and the food rocks. Every time we go we are welcomed with open arms! We even rented the restaurant and brought our entire family down from Massachusetts to share our Happy Place! Crab cakes and the Honey Salmon are a MUST! Five stars isn't enough to show how much we love it here!
