I have been visiting McGraw’s for years. I used to go there when in was called Stiney’s. I am surprised that I don’t already have a review on here for McGraw’s. I can’t imagine that it wouldn’t have been a five star as I am giving it now. I had the ribeye steak during this visit and it was delicious. The pictures include the chocolate cheesecake that we had for dessert. I also included a picture of the Purdue Rowing Team practicing on the Wabash river.

Google
Food was really good. We found out that if you don't have a reservation, you will be seated at the bar or by the front entrance. Server was good.

Google
Excellent in every respect. Steaks were tender and prepared perfectly. Appetizers included raw Chesapeake Bay oysters on the half shell that were so good we ordered seconds. All served with a view of the banks of the Wabash River. Best restaurant in Indiana.

Google
I made a reservation and was never told we only had 2 hours to eat. It felt rushed. This was an end of the year dinner for work and we were rushed and were told the other party was about to arrive so we needed to get dessert quick. The food was great. Place is small so it gets really crowded in there. Really disappointed in the treatment as my boss spent good money that night.

Don't let the outside looks fool you. I wasn't sure what to expect as we dove up to the restaurant. When you walk in you are greeted by this rustic hardwood decor. It was just beautiful. We asked to have a view of the river. Unfortunately, due to how early in the year it is that view wasn't as beautiful as we thought it will be later in the year. Before I go further. We did call the morning of to try to reserve a river view. We left a voice message with our request. We received a return call by 4 PM and were given an option of 5 or 8 PM. We chose 8. We arrived 15 minutes early and our hostess seated us immediately. The restaurant was nearly full. Diners' attire ranged from street clothes to suits and ties. So dress how you feel comfortable. We ordered the Firecracker shrimp. It was simply perfect. The shrimp was perfectly cooked. The shrimp was lightly breaded. This allowed the shrimp to be the star. The taste was just lovely. Our soup was French onion with gruyere cheese. It was very good. Excellent flavor! We both had the Filet mignon. Cooked to perfection and so tender it melted in your mouth as you chewed. The rice pilaf was good. Not dry nor overcooked. I added a catfish filet to my meal. The catfish was breaded slightly crisp but not soggy. It flaked as you cut it. Overall it was an exceptional dining experience! The food, the presentation, and the atmosphere all worked in concert to allow us to have a memorable evening. We'll definitely return the next time we are in town! Final note. Call ahead to reserve a seat. It's not required but it does help.

Birthday dinner with one of my very best friends. Food, service and atmosphere all top notch!

Google
So nice place with a beautiful view on the river. The steaks are absolutely delicious, the ambiance was great. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner!

Google
The prime rib on Friday - Saturday is absolutely divine. Melt in your mouth tender and flavorful! The rest of the menu looked good with options for everyone. I enjoyed the French onion soup as well.

Yelp
Selected this restaurant based on Yelp ratings. This restaurant is located off the beaten path and almost seems out of the way of your not a local. Upon entering the hostess asked if we had a reservation, we did not as this was last minute find. The hostess advised there was a table available in the bar area or a large 6 top table behind the hostess stand. We selected the 6 top, while not in the main dining area it was still a good table and our server Karis was great. Complimentary Bread is served. The bread was served warm and soft. Ordered the Scallops and asked for them to be prepared in a lemon butter sauce which the kitchen was able to do a lemon beurre blanc sauce. Served with a side and soup or salad or a 2nd side if no soup or salad is selected. Requested some tartar sauce however it had a very overpowering Dill flavor. French Onion soup had the right amount of bread and more broth than cheese and onion. Had the Ribeye Cap special which needed a touch of salt and it was cooked a little more than the medium rare plus ordered. Served with a side of Burgundy Mushrooms heavy on the Burgundy flavor and Shoestring Onion Rings however not really on the true sense of Shoestring Onion ring size of things unless your into fat shoelaces but they did taste good. Overall great service and good food

Yelp
Dinner with five friends on Friday, Sophie our server was a delight. Very knowledgeable on all menu items. Very happy that Bootles gin was available. We all ordered Walleye. Very tasty and served with many side choices. We opted for the roasted Brussels, very good, not mushy. We will definitely return on our next visit to Purdue

Yelp
Came in for a date night with my girlfriend and overall had a great experience. Pros -AMAZING view of the Wabash! - Free (tough) rolls with yummy honey butter - Not a large menu, so not hard to find something for everyone's liking. Cons - Not a lot of food for the money, and not the best, but it was okay. - Staff/service were mediocre Overall a nice experience with an amazing view of the river, that as far as I know, can't be beat in the area!

Yelp
Was warned earlier in the day that there isn't a sign out by the road & so it's easy to pass by. So I made a point to do a dry run earlier in the day. Fantastic filet, and the squash soup was delish. Given it's right on the river it would be a beautiful place in the spring, summer and fall.

Yelp
Nice cozy rustic steakhouse! Love the vibes inside. The free bread and butter was really soft and warm. I got the salmon and fries, but I think my dish was too salty. The calamari was really crispy and tender. Dessert was also a plus! Overall nice experience and fun place to go out with friends and family.

Yelp
Had dinner here 7/16. The French onion soup was more cheese than onion soup. My chicken was covered in sauce and cheese. The chicken is was as thin as a quarter. Mushrooms and onion rings were great as was the service. Too expensive for the portion of meat. If the meat is done properly, it doesn't need to be covered and disquized.

Yelp
Our food was cooked perfectly. No complaints whatsoever but we witnessed a customer who obviously was looking for a free meal. She sent 3 steaks back. Her server, Karis(sic) did everything she could to appease this woman to no avail. I watched her professionalism and she is a testament to the quality of food and service McGRaws provides.

Yelp
This is a failed review as there is no pic... Is it REALLY A REVIEW without a pic?! As I've shared before, this is our local haunt and our fave go-to for drinks, food or both... Felt the need for an update with a refreshed menu (although I'm only talking about one item here). Many knew this place as Stiney's before McGraw's and as such the Catfish was the staple menu item that drew folks. A great menu item it was for YEARS into the McGraw's era - but that came to an end. We went there Friday after a visit to our local distillery and I needed a light meal. Louisiana Catfish now on the menu?!... I love my Midwest comfort foods, don't get me wrong but Cajun, Creole or Louisiana (NOLA) menu items and I'm in! This did NOT disappoint and the Creole twist on the tartar sauce was the best finishing touch! Can Stiney's fish be replaced... Yup and I'm quite happy about it. Great service as always and Todd always treats us like family when there... Until next time!

Yelp
It didn't start of well. I made the reservation months ago and was disappointed to find us at the overflow bar table. When I commented the hostess gave a snippy remark, so that set the tone. Not smart business. Drinks were light, rib steak was small, prime rib was huge, scallops weren't great. Service was also super rushed. Oh well. That's it for me.

Yelp
Splendid top tier local steak and seafood house sitting on the unsurprisingly dirty Wabash river like a jewel in a cardboard crown, my buddy and I had a great time! There's a lovely outdoor dining area and classic indoor rooms. Looks great for all sorts but quite cozy for kids or annoying types. It took me way too long to try this place out. Not sure why, had heard some years ago this wasn't quite the spot but they seem to have mended whatever issues because the entire menu from our drinks to desserts, fish and footed feast friends, and the staff put us in a warm mood and stuck the rest of our weekend. Our crab cake and firecracker shrimp appetizers showed up with all the appeal of the river out the winter to trick us with each bite, rich dreamy sauces for the crab and bright chili for the shrimps. My local Indianapolis brewery lager from Metazoa had been drained while I waited but I wished I had quickly ordered a second pint! One ideal clear headed crispy beer that's not shy on flavor or depth. We both then did cocktails with lots of complimentary bread and butter. Poor us, couldn't plan out the appetite right which later put our dessert cheesecake in the to go box. In that moment life was perfect, sipping a maple Old Fashioned and mango Tango to prove that red and blue work best on the table together. Later my friend got the lavender gin rift on a seventh five, as easy to sip as pretty. Our mains came after apologies which we never noticed the wait at all. I suppose some freshman or seniors celebrating with family would have needed to move on however this place is best without anything planned after. He got the New York Strip and I did Jack Daniels tips. The strip was topped with blue cheese butter and complimented with some of the best mushrooms either of us have taken a short cut to, places double the prices didn't do any better! My teriyaki beef trio made merry with the autumn veggies. This whole dinner ordeal has us raving back n forth for hours later, the chicken florentine soup should have its own show. But the finale of cheesecake later at home, o wow, no other meals have won so well.

Yelp
Wins-wait staff was excellent Losses- management, food Management-we arrived 10 mins.early for our reservation..."table will be ready shortly. 35 mins. later, still not seated. Finally, a different table sticking into the aisle. Didn't see anyone working as a manager. Food. We ordered Wagyu beef and Walleye. Both Highly recommended. Walleye came from the freezer, so did Walleye. Onion strings were always a favored. Again, from the freezer and presentation was dumped on the plate. We used to like Mcgraw's...sad times. Won't be back.

Yelp
I recommend the the beef stroganoff. Small and intimate. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.

Yelp
This place is wonderful, the space is elegant and cozy! The staff were very attentive and service was great. The food was amazing! Best tomato soup I've ever had! The steak was phenomenal! You can't beat the views around the restaurant.

Yelp
We tried McGraw's on the river for the first time. The delicious food, quick service, and rustic ambiance were wonderful! I had the special, the rainbow trout, which was out of this world. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Another great meal tonight. Fork-tender Filet (I have never had to use a knife with their filets here). John tried the Chicken McGraw and it was exceptional. Their Italian Lemon Mousse Cake (a new selection) was heavenly. Their new Chef likes to rotate new things into the menu. He also added a new salad option -- completely hydroponically grown. Thoroughly enjoyed a bottle of Résonance Pinot Noir from Oregon. The Résonance Vineyard is the first Louis Jadot venture outside of France and it holds true to the elegance and exceptional quality of that Maison while at the same time reflecting the best of Oregon's Pinot grapes. Résonance did not graft in the Louis Jadot vines, they planted them in 1981. Résonance Pinot Noir is a skosh drier than its European (and California) counterparts coming in at 13.1 % ABV. The service was, as always, top notch and thoroughly added to our experience. Eagerly anticipating our next visit! ..until next time!

Yelp
We went here for son's birthday. Called ahead and when we got there were immediately seated. Service was great, ambience was that of a Wisconsin supper club (don't expect a relish tray or anything) and food was top notch. 3 different entrees, tenderloin tips, NY strip and walleye. The beef was excellent and the walleye was even a notch above that! With I'd found this place much earlier in son's Purdue experience. Oh, and the dinner rolls are amazing too. Local spot with great vibe and better food, I couldn't have asked for more

Bug 7.

Yelp
Been coming here since I was a kid in the 70's. Loved Stiney's catfish. The catfish is excellent again since the chef from Indy took over. Service has always been good. My favorite meal in Tippecanoe County again.

Terrill M.

Yelp
Excellent Relaxed comfortable atmosphere with great service and food. Enjoyed the view also

Yelp
My wife and I, along with our daughter and SIL, had a take-out dinner from McGraw's tonight to celebrate my birthday. (Being Covid cautious, we don't eat indoors and are always on the lookout for places with good takeout). We were all very pleased with our meal. My daughter and I had the filet mignon, which we both thought was excellent, and both her steak and mine were cooked to our requested medium well and medium rare, respectively. My wife really loved her salmon and my SIL was pretty happy with his crab cakes. The meal was ready when we got there and the order was completely accurate. The only less-than-stellar note was the fact that there was a five dollar "convenience fee" added on to the tab. I didn't notice this until after I had paid (my error; I should have looked at the itemized list they gave me); if I had, I probably would have given less of a tip.

Yelp
Steakhouse located on shore of the Wabash river. We had a large party celebrating Purdue graduation and were located in one of the dining rooms. Friendly service. Started with a White Russian and it was delish. Had a peppermint stick and the whole drink tasted like candy. Had the bread and butter and also delish. The butter had a sweet taste. Unfortunately the drink and bread were the highlight of the meal. The salad was very ordinary, leaf lettuce and two tomato grapes. That's it. Ordered a French onion soup which per their menu is considered "as a side" and so it came as a side to the steak, not served as a normal soup course. Oh well. Soup was ok, but could have been baked more and the bread and cheese topping just didn't come together. The steak was tender but not great flavor, not seared, no sauces, very meh. Had the key lime pie which I normally love, and, this is simply not key lime pie. It was literally a cake with green frosting, without even any lime flavor. Like what? Who does that. Service was friendly, we had a nice time at dinner and it seemed like a nice place but didn't find much to recommend about the food. Overall a big swing and a miss. Too bad, but can not recommend.

Yelp
Well. I have come here for many years and it is hit or miss. Service is always good. Bar service good. Overpriced food is the issue for me. This evening they were out of the salmon dish at 530 pm. Substitute a linguine dish that was visually bad but not great tasting either. Burger good but hard to mess that up.

Yelp
This is my favorite steak place. I love the view on the river. Their filet is top notch. It is a romantic setting and perfect for a date night or business dinner.

Yelp
After dining at McGraw's a couple of times a month for the last two years, I made the mistake of reserving a window table for five people to celebrate two birthdays A MONTH IN ADVANCE. When we arrived, not only were we not seated at the window, we were seated in front of the restroom doors. When I spoke to the manager, she stated that the window seats were first come, first served. What's the purpose of making a reservation then??? She then offered us a table on the patio in front of the storage/junk room door where we had a clear "view" of the pesticides in the storage area along with the two rats running in and out, and the backs of the couple on the River side. We had a decent dinner but I then made the mistake of ordering Prosecco which was brought to my table at room temperature. When I mentioned this to the waitress, she took the glass inside where she obviously just placed the glass in a freezer for a few minutes. When she returned with it, not only was it scarcely cooler, but had gone flat. She admitted that it had not been chilled and I did not drink it. She didn't offer to take it off of my bill. I left your restaurant upset, disgusted and embarrassed that I had chosen your restaurant to bring my family and friends to celebrate two birthdays. I hope they invest the $260 I spent there wisely because I can assure you I won't be back.

LeAnne J.

Yelp
Cocktails and entrees were scrumptious, but my salad was plated haphazardly and had some rotten greens in it, and the brûlée on our crème brûlée was burnt too much to be eaten. I just wasn't expecting those easily avoided kitchen mishaps in a fine dining restaurant. However, our waitress provided top-notch service!

Pam B.

Yelp
We have been to this restaurants many times. Last time three months ago. Tonight we went. They raised their prices substantially. The service left a lot to be desired. It took forever to get our food and it was cold! Had to ask more than once for drink refills. Was never asked if we wanted refills we had to ask! Was totally not impressed. It was a HUGE disappointed!
google avatar

Sabrina C.

Yelp
Food was not worth the price or the hype. The up charged Cesar salad and rolls with the honey butter were the best part of the meal. We ordered a filet and a ribeye neither of which had any flavor. Don't even think salt or pepper was used. The crust from the grill on the outside was crunchy and Smokey but not in a good way. The ribeye was ordered medium but was overcooked. The filet was cooked well but again no flavor. The vegetables were alright and unseasoned. The baked potato was a potato with butter. The house salad looked like rabbit food with enormous pieces of lettuce that needed to be cut at least in half and three halves of baby tomatoes, nothing else. The atmosphere was nice. The tables were set up nicely and it wasn't too loud. The hostess was lovely and very welcoming and informative. Our waitress didn't check in very often with us and it took awhile to get started with drinks and order.
google avatar

Hannah C.

Yelp
Super classy & cozy vibes- the restaurant is right on the river. The steak & catfish are delicious! Service is always great as well. Definitely try a dessert when you go- they're the best!
google avatar

Mark E.

Yelp
McGraw's is a solid destination choice for visiting parents of Purdue students. It's a little too pretentious and costly to be a good date spot, and has somewhat of a down-homey vibe that does not match the imaginative and sophistication of the seafood-heavy menu. Decent seafood is an Indiana rarity, but this Marylander was not displeased. Service was extremely competent which was a decided plus. Be prepared to be separated from your money, but its easy to do worse in West Lafayette for food quality, drinks list, and atmosphere.
google avatar

Leslie A.

Yelp
Came here on a Tuesday night to celebrate a birthday. Luckily I made reservations because by the time we left around 7 o'clock the place was completely full Came here to celebrate a birthday and it was very pleasant and service was very friendly The fall portion size of the onion strings appetizer is rather small although we were warned it was large we finished the entire order between two people Be sure to ask your server for specials it may not be on the menu as there were some that night which was good to hear we were seated right by the window which was nice as it has a view over the river and luckily it was very sunny that day Parking is ample in their front parking lot The food quality overall was quite good the crabcakes luckily were not full of fake filler or fake crab or breadcrumbs The dessert options are plentiful and although we were full we ordered two We ate one there and took one home to go and both were delicious

Yelp
I lived in Lafayette for the first 24 of my life...how tonight was the first time I made it to McGraw's is beyond me! My family and I took my dad out for an early Father's Day/Birthday dinner and it definitely did not disappoint. Between us, we ordered calamari, Filet Mignon, prime rib, catfish, teriyaki beef tips, goat cheese mashed potatoes and Brussels sprout petals and everything was fantastic! Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They were kind enough to take a family picture as well. Large windows allowed for a really nice view of the Wabash...as nice of a view as can be ;). Overall, we had a great time and will definitely be back again!

Hank J.

Yelp
Cool old school place we took our son on his 21st birthday. Great drinks, classic steakhouse feel and great food.

Brian F.

Yelp
My salad had lettuce still attached to the roots of the lettuce in a huge clump of dirt. As it was date night with my fiancee I didn't want to make a big deal about it. I just gave it to our waiter. He returned a few minutes later apologizing for the salad. Apparently the Chef's solution was to offer us an free appetizer, another salad, or a dessert after they had literally served me dirt. I lost my appetite and didn't eat anything else they served me. After I paid I took it home and fed it to my dogs. They lick their own butts so I figured they wouldn't mind. I do not recommend.

Yelp
Still one of the best steak and chop houses in the area. Good cocktail bar service and excellent wine list. There is a separate dining room to take larger parties, but the seats along the south windows overlooking the Wabash will give you a chance to see great sunsets, blue herons, and an occasional appearance by the Purdue Crew team. A hidden gem that's a little off the beaten track.

John K.

Yelp
Disappointed with the service tonight - our party of 7 was seated quickly (at our reservation time, on a weeknight) and our waitress appeared a few minutes later with waters. She asked if we wanted to see drink menus (we said yes) - she came back a few minutes later with the cocktail/beer/wines by the glass list, but no wine by the bottle book (McGraw's has an extensive wine list). She did not return for over 10 minutes, and when she asked for our drink order, we asked for the wine list. This delayed our drink order - when we ordered our wine, she came back a few minutes later, explaining they were out of our selection. We received our drinks 30 minutes after we sat down. Food was great - 5 ribeyes, linguini and a filet, plus salads, French onion soups and 4 desserts shared amongst the table. However, for the amount of $ we paid tonight, it warrants a middle of the road review. I've given the restaurant i5 stars before, just not tonight.

Yelp
My wife and I celebrated our 32nd anniversary with a trip here and enjoyed our time and meal. We started with a shrimp cocktail and cocktails. I had the Blood and Smoke...delicious...my wife had the Mojito again delicious. Totally recommend the bar menu, don't think you can go wrong. I ordered the fillet (8 oz) med rare. It was fantastic, slightly cooked above what I prefer but the taste was great. My wife ordered the Walleye and we both enjoyed it. Service was great (Sarah). Overall experience was a good one.

Tony V.

Yelp
Excellent meal. I had the steak tips and firecracker shrimp. Steak served perfectly cooked, Soup was excellent, and drinks were very good. Staff was attentive and I thoroughly enjoyed this vist.

Steve F.

Yelp
Nice view and ambience. Food was delicious and service was good. I'd go back and I recommend.

Neal W.

Yelp
2 orders of salmon at our table were way over cooked. Like tough and dry and chewy, not words you should use to describe this wonderful fish. Someone in this kitchen failed miserably. Other dishes were decent. Service was decent, quaint atmosphere. But I'll never go back.
google avatar

Valerie S.

Yelp
Thank you for a wonderful evening. We came here almost 2 years ago after getting engaged and returned this time for our rehearsal dinner with our whole bridal party and families. We were looking for a quieter place we could have our whole group and enjoy a really nice dinner together. They perfectly accommodated our group of 28, the service, drinks, and food were perfect, 10/10.

Yelp
We found this gem last night after the Purdue/IU game. Amazing location and setting, fun bar.....and some of the best food I've had in years. I was pumped to see "Whole catfish" on the menu....You can rarely find whole catfish these days. The asparagus, rice, and ribeye were all off the charts as well.......very flavorful. This will become one of our regular establishments- worth every mile of the hour drive. :)

Yelp
Call before you come if you're here for something specific. I saw a review about scallops which is why I visited. They did not have scallops on the menu tonight. I settled with the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer and crab cakes for my entree, they were good. Service was great at the bar and everything came out fast, I visited on a Thursday. Only giving this restaurant 4 stars due to a hair in my food. They were apologetic and prompt on getting my side remade. I'd come back again if they offer scallops!!

Yelp
It was my first time here recently, and I was impressed! I tried the surf and turf special and it was delicious. Our server was super friendly as well. I thought it was a nice touch that they had a hand sanitizer on every table.

Yelp
Expected more from McGraw's. We hadn't been there in a number of years, and unfortunately, it's not what it used to be. First, let me say the Campfire Old Fashioned was exceptional and our server was very nice, but those were the highlight of our visit. They have added tables in the bar and our table was not good. Right next to the hostess stand, so it was noisy and we frequently had people standing over us. Then, the owners and staff kept egging on an obnoxious table of 6-8 behind us, making it impossible to even hold our own conversation. We felt invisible and not valued. The service was extremely rushed. Our appetizers were out long before our cocktails arrived and our salads came moments later. They rushed us through a $190 meal in less than an hour, and it would have been faster had we not purposely delayed ordering our entrees because of the initial rush of appetizer and cocktails. The food was just ok. Our guests paid $37 or fillets that were thin and just alright. My prime rib was tender but didn't have much flavor. The worst was my husband's pork chop. The stuffed pork chop was the evening special and it was served with pretty ordinary stuffing and half of the chop was RAW--not just pink, RAW! We had to ask for an adjustment to our bill. After showing the raw meat to the server, a good restaurant would automatically try to make it right. We had high hopes for a nice evening. It wasn't.

Yelp
I can't believe this isn't on the top ten list. When traveling, I almost always look to avoid the chain restaurants and try to find an old-school simple, delicious restaurant. In West Lafayette, IN, the top choices included Logan's roadhouse, Outback and Mountain Jacks. McGraws sounded right in my wheelhouse but some of the reviews made me nervous. I went anyway and was extremely pleased. It has a nice ambience, the service was just right and the food was excellent.

Yelp
Awesome food and service .always a highlight when I visit Lafayette.full service bar, innovative cocktails and extensive wine list.

Marilyn F.

Yelp
My nephew took my husband and I here to celebrate my birthday! We were all disappointed in the food and the service. I had the stroganoff and it had no taste, just bland. The service was lacking! I had a salad and when I finished the server came and took my plates and the 2 forks I had. when dinner came I was without a fork. I asked for a fork, but I never got one. My nephew gave me his extra one. I am in a scooter and it was hard to entering and exiting the building. We only saw one handicapped parking space. Very disappointing evening! We will not be back!!!!!

Yelp
McGraw's has the potential to be special. But it's not. The setting, the building and the ambiance are all good. The food is just not good enough to be worthy of it becoming a favorite. Ribeyes are normally tender, mine wasn't. The add-on "mushrooms and onions" was 95% onions. Our server was very busy and I watched my beer sit at the bar for about 10 minutes...and most aggravating, I watched the bartender use a swizzle stick to stir up a head on it after it had dissipated. That's just tacky. Prices are reasonable - maybe raise your steak prices a little and buy better beef? A little effort is all it takes to go from meh to good in this case.
