Which Minneapolis and St. Paul Patios Are Open Right Now, Summer 2020 | Eater Twin Cities

"I found their patio is currently open with tables sometimes placed on existing patios, in parking lots, or on sidewalks; guests are asked to wear masks and all staff will be masked, with precautions in place—check with the restaurant for individual days and hours. Studies suggest lower exposure risk when dining outdoors, but that benefit depends on restaurants following strict social distancing and other safety guidelines." - Joy Summers

We usually love going here, and will come back because the food is overall good. But don’t order takeout. I’ve eaten the black and bleu salad in store several times and always had 3 pieces of chicken. I ordered it as a takeout order and got one piece of chicken that was 2.74oz in weight. I called and was placed on hold twice to say that takeout chicken is only one piece, but it’s the same price as the in-store menu. I paid $19 and some change for less protein than what my 5-year-old niece eats for dinner. We’ll be back because we love it here but never again for takeout.

The southwest chicken salad is really good!! Quality chicken with great flavor!! They have pull tabs and coke products which is a plus!!

Wow. Everything was delicious. We came during st Patrick’s day. It was very busy and unfortunately they don’t take names for waitlist over the phone. So plan accordingly.

We went there for lunch. During lunch hours, it was very quiet. The server was great. She came to our table at the right time, and our waters were always full. She was funny too. The ordering to setve time was quick. We ordered the reuben and steak sandwich. Both were delicious. The steak sandwich was cooked perfectly and had pickled onions. It was a nice, variation for a sandwich. The fries were crispy and golden. There are tons of large tvs with all sports. We will definitely make this a regular spot to eat.

First time visiting. I ordered a burger with fries and enjoyed two cocktails. Food was excellent, pours were generous, service was quick, and staff was attentive. All of this for a reasonable price! Nice little place to grab a bite, highly recommend!

Google
Great neighborhood pub with outstanding food. Jose was our bartender and he knew almost every customer by name. Massive plus. He recommended some sharables for my wife and I. Excellent food. We had the salmon tacos with mango salsa. 2 tacos that were huge. Delicious and reasonably priced considering how good they tasted. Great customer service and a nice chill atmosphere. We're coming back. We came back. Had the salads. I had the Asian bowl, great. My wife had the Asada bowl and the steak on it was fantastic. Spicy and savory with a great compliment of Tex-Mex salad. Really frickin good and no expensive. We ate at Whiskey Inferno, paid a lot more and it wasn't this good

We come here often, great food. The staff is wonderful. Taco pizza, pickle pizza, wings, salads… Everything is good. Fun atmosphere! We are always surprised how dirty the front doors are. You need to clean the glass multiple times a day, so it looks nice when people walk in. I’m not kidding. This was a topic of conversation at our table the other day because both doors are always filthy. The hosts at the front stand around a lot, they can windex the glass throughout the day. First impression is everything.

This was our first time at McHugh's. We started with the nachos. They were fine. All the cheese was in the middle so it made for a messy experience having to scrap some off and put it on other bare chips. It was supposed to have chicken but there were only a few pieces to be found. Side of guac was not good. The reuben was average. Wasn't alot of meat in sandwich. Fries were just meh. I believe they were battered and then fried, the texture wasn't good. Club was average as well. Bread was very toasted, crumbs were coming off with each bite. It was very thick, hard to eat a full bite. Coleslaw was not great, it was to sweet. Place needs a cleaning. There were crumbs on the booth seat. Bathroom was not clean either. There was lots of staff standing around to that could have easily been cleaning. Service was friendly and parking is easy.

Yelp
Parking was good, the restroom clean and I love the personal touch of hair ties, mints and womanly "items" for you in the bathroom. The only thing is they are only in the bigger bathroom. So you would have to wait if someone was in there. Great idea though. It's definitely a bar. By the time we were leaving, it was loud. Our waitress was really nice and friendly. The Mosacto I had was great. Food was alright. Burger (The Minnesotan), was bland considering everything that was on it. The fries were decent. The bowl the Harvest salad came in was cute. I wanted to take that home. Would go back because I want to try the fish on a Friday. But not in a hurry.

Yelp
Really great service. We went for brunch and had an amazing Bloody Mary plus a beer with a pickle in it. Nice bright space even though it's a bar and great breakfast food! We shared a breakfast pizza and breakfast burrito. Would recommend!

Yelp
Went on a Friday at 1:30. Quiet with about a dozen patrons. It's a solid sports bar. Good selection of beer and booze. Basic wine selection but you don't go to a sports bar for the wine. Pretty good menu selection. Sammis, burgers, appetizers and a few 'plated' items. Ordered McHugh's burger, medium. It was perfectly cooked, but the burger itself is bare. Cheese and meat. Good, but bare. Had the coleslaw for the side. Bland and a bit too 'creamy'. Pepper and salt helped but it fairly unremarkable. The potato chips, which my partner got, were very good. Not too salty. Served up warm and crunchy. Had the parmesan cauliflower bites as an appetizer, which were very good. 3.75 stars. I'll be back.

Yelp
We love stopping in for food and drinks on weekend to catch a game! There's a ton of TVs, so you can see the game from pretty much wherever. Get there early if you want a seat at the bar, gets busy and it fills up quick! Our go to app is the short rib quesadilla & then we switch up everything else! GF menu is a little limited but there are options. They have great daily specials, but make sure you check it ahead of time if you don't want to get caught on bingo night!

Yelp
i am just some guy from the interwebs, i see the last post was from 2024, so im here to praise this location for doing something so awesome for the community. whatever agreement they have, these videos help me sleep at night. the staff was awesome to give a discount, if any, but the bartender man, giving up a lil extra extra... yes, homelessness is bad epidemic, but sometimes a nice gesture changes someone's attitude. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/U9Ai1bvz7eU

Yelp
Stopped here for a later supper on a Sunday night. Not very busy so we were able to sit in a quiet booth. We both ordered a cup of chicken wild rice soup. It's the creamy version and it had lots of chicken in it. It was good. We then split a black and blue salad. The salad came to us on separate plates. They gave each plate its own chicken wing. It was a perfect sized meal for a late dinner. Service was excellent. Good stop.

Jarleyn P.

Yelp
All I can say is, God bless to the owner of this store for doing such an amazing things for the community. Thank you!!

Yelp
Great food options...from appetizers to burgers to pizza. The service is amazing - very friendly and on top of things. Fun atmosphere to catch up with friends or watch a game.

Yelp
They keep the place too cold all year round!!! save money and let your customers be comfortabl!

Yelp
Vikings are playing, You are craving a burger so where do you stop??? Why not check out McHugh's. What a great atmosphere on game day. They offer a brunch menu and dinner menu to choose from. We opted for a look at both and stuck with our burger choices, however the table next to us having breakfast looked fantastic and they took some home. If you want to watch the game they offer tv's in all corners so you can catch those play's regardless of where you sit. The food was delicious and served with a smile. Clientele were fun and I noticed they do fish fry nights on Friday so I'm pretty sure we'll be going back. In my experience- it's a great fun stop.

Yelp
The strawberry chicken salad is yummy! We also always get the cauliflower app. Service is great. We have always had friendly waitstaff. It does get a bit loud so we prefer to sit in the booths.

Mike T.

Yelp
Lives up to a fine neighborhood pub that everyone should have nearby. Friendly staff and great dry rub wings. Plenty of TVs, pull tabs, and fun.

Yelp
Great food and service. Bright atmosphere and friendly wait staff. Great destination for an afternoon day trip.

Yelp
We were there to listen to some music on the patio. We had someone with us who couldn't sit at a high top table so we got there early to ensure getting a low table. They only have two or three low tops on patio. The manager recommended that we get there early and it worked to our advantage. The music was great. The evening pleasant. The food was good. The drink specials were good too.

Yelp
I went to McHugh's for the first time on Saturday night and my boyfriend and I were seated right away. Our server was friendly and prompt, but I didn't catch her name. I ordered the Prime Dip (Philly Style) and my boyfriend got the Rachel, both were filling and delicious and we saved half for the leftovers. Fries were crispy and HOT!! I like the vibe of the restaurant/bar, and we will definitely be back to watch a Wild game!

Yelp
This place is a riot! Whats not to like about food, drinks, and trivia night? We actually came in with a group of three for the night and decided to pass on trivia. This is beacuse there were three of us and about 5-10 of everyone else. We felt a bit outnumbered but will come back with more people to even out those odds soon. We ordered a philly cheesesteak and two orders of wings. I got a chance to try the philly cheesesteak and it was delicious! The bbq wings that I ordered had an intresting flavor to it. The servers here were friendly enough. Its hard to tell who was actually our server beacuse we had about 3-4 people comming to chrck on our table... Teamwork! We had alot of fun watching psople play trivia and well be back to play too. Perferably with a team!

Yelp
Service was really slow to get our water, silverware and first visit from wait staff. However, after that everything was great! Won $208 on pull tabs and enjoyed the pub pretzel appetizer, very good! The meal entrees (burgers) were excellent! Would highly recommend the seasoned sour cream and waffle fries. Drinks were a little expensive for the quality in my opinion, they should offer more specials.
google avatar

Christine P.

Yelp
Hadn't been here forever. Fun vibe at 10pm on a Friday night and they had happy hour! We enjoyed the potato skins, wings and pretzel sticks! Not to mention the drinks
google avatar

Yelp
We visit this place often! Tonight was the last time. We have always had extremely good service here. Tonight we ordered two for one vodka sodas. Absolutely no booze. I am not one to complain as I work in customer service. We called the manager over to simply let her know that when paying for mixed drinks we would at least like to have a splash of vodka in our vodka drinks, she grabbed our drinks from us and basically told us to leave. So we did. Haha. Never again. It's too bad because we spend a lot of money at this place. We will no longer be regulars or ever recommend this dump again
google avatar

Rhonda G.

Yelp
The good part was the service from Julie was great. A tall glass of iced tea was one of the best I've had. I got a soup and sandwich combo. One of my favorites is cream of mushroom. This is totally pureed and over salted. A smidgen more and it would have been inedible. The corned beef is okay but even worse on stale sourdough. I got a small side salad with blue cheese to attempt to make up for this and no dice. If I do get over here again I'd take Karl's advice and get a burger. The worst part was the trip to the bathroom. The most hideous purple that would make Prince puke. The floors were almost like they were unfinished. The sinks were nice, go figure. Should have followed instincts and gone to HyVee.

Yelp
We really enjoy McHugh's. The staff is very friendly and the specials are great. A good time always.

Yelp
Overall I like this place and the food is good its quality food, prices good, service good...why only 3 stars you say? Well 3 times I've ordered the club sandwich with no mayo. 3 times it had mayo this is a big issue for me and dont feel its a hard request 1 of the times was to-go so it wasnt caught until it was home. It just got thrown in the trash unfortunately. The other times i was able to send it back but I always worry the cook would be offended and add some "surprise" to it, not that i could say that happened but its a fear when sending anything back.

Yelp
Great patio with reasonable prices. Mary's having a burger and I'm going to go with the Fiesta Salad. Great night when you just have to be outside enjoying a night at 81 degrees.
google avatar

Jill S.

Yelp
Really good bar type food. Ambiance was a little loud but that's because it's the only bar to service those little suburb so it Almost felt like everyone knows everyone which is always a good vibe.

George G.

Yelp
I would strongly advise against using your credit card here. They claim to store your credit card numbers in their computer then will attempt to use it for their own private shopping (I turn my cards off). Also, the bar manager Crystal is the one to watch out for. She's a thief and has been stealing for many years now. Beware. Then to top it off, I had a long hair in my chicken wings. Was told I had to pay for something I didn't eat. The manager and Crystal were both extremely rude to the point I thought I was in the Twilight zone. Never again.
google avatar

Torrey A.

Yelp
The water tastes like butt dipped in molten plastic. I have never been more offended at a sip of water. I can't get anything to eat here to eat because it's all so, so unhealthy.
google avatar

Scott G.

Yelp
We usually get food to go. Kids are crazy in the restaurant. Last couple times they have screwed our orders up. Last time I called and they said they would send a gift card for the one dish that was wrong. Still waiting. That was a week and half ago. Also dine in with orders being mixed up. I try support local businesses but your making extremely tough.

Yelp
Very Disappointed on the Food. Salads suck, burgers suck, service sucked.... Had to go find the waitress to get my tab. Drinks were spendy and not poured well. Overall experience was poor. Good thing I had some friends with to make it a good time.

Yelp
Came in here for the first time in years to watch football with my family. we all love football bit have different favorite teams and fantasy football. When we walked in we asked for one of 13 TVs to be put on the Packer game. Beth was the manager who told us, "NO, this is a Vikings bar" 12 Packer fans were in our section and asked too. finally she turns one TV to the game for 6 tables. Customer Service lacks here except for our young waitress Kayla who was apologetic, she maybe should train the manager on Customer Service.

Cassondra H.

Yelp
A great "average" bar and restaurant. I'm not sure if it has had a face lift or moved to a new location since the past few reviews I'm reading... but it is very nice inside and out. We sat at the bar and had great service, our beers were never finished before being asked if we wanted another or something else to eat. I ordered the petite sirloin and for $10 I thought it was pretty good. Yes, a little chewy maybe but come on, it's $10. Tip: Restaurant.com has $25 dollar gift certificates that you can buy for less than half of that... get one and try it out!

Dave O.

Yelp
This a a neighborhood spot near us that's close and convenient as well as consistently good food. We sat on the patio and Allyson fired up the patio heater which made for a comfortable fall-ish dining. We had fish and chips and the prime french dip. While nothing os cutting edge or trendy everything we order us satisfying and fresh.
google avatar

Karl W.

Yelp
I go for the burgers and it is their specialty. My favorite is the cream cheese and green olive burger. Good quality meat that is always accurately cooked and a nice soft bun. They have changed this burger over the last couple years but is still as good as the last. They have a lot of interesting choices on the menu, but have always ordered the burgers because they are always good and satisfying.

Yelp
Passed by a number of times and didn't stop because of the reviews. Decided to take a chance tonight and was very pleasantly surprised. Excellent service, good food and reasonable prices. Will definitely return.

Yelp
Food/Drink: Came here for an early lunch on Sunday, but on hindsight could have eaten anywhere. There was a brunch and bloody mary bar which might attract some people, but we were pretty tied up for burgers and wings. The burger had a full salad on it and didn't have any real flavoring or "umphf" factor to wow us. The wings were decent, but all the sauces seemed like they came from a grocery store shelf. Again, nothing to blow your skirt off. The menu is pretty all over the place, so they've got that going for them (everyone should find something) and they do have a bunch of beers which could drown your sorrow of the food if needed. Ambiance: Here's the theory, it's an irish bar and it's kid friendly. Booths are big, bar is big, menu is big (see above). But the problem is with so much bigness, it's empty. So you feel pretty small in such a big space. They do have an outdoors patio which looks pretty awesome. I could imagine some serious drinking going on out there in the relaxed summer air of MN. Service: OK. Nothing too stressful or complex. We had two so I'm guessing one was training. No mistakes, nothing spilled, so that's good to know. Overall: I won't say No if there's a group of people that are hell bent on going here, especially if the regular places are packed up. This is a place, I recommend the food options of going either "safe" (typical simple bar food) or "extreme" (strangest thing on the menu). It's got to be on these polar opposites that the good comes out. Regardless, get a dark beer and pretend you're Irish and everything turns out better.

Yelp
My family and a friend's family went here for the first time in Dec 2013. Since I had never been, I looked at Yelp for other reviews and frankly, I was a bit concerned from the seemingly negative feedback thus far. Now, having eaten there for a dinner, I must say I was pleasantly surprised and delighted. Was it perfect? No, but what place is? I would recommend it. We dined there on a Thursday night and sat in the dining area. The dining area wasn't packed, so our party of 6 got seated quickly (the bar area was quite crowded). The server was pleasant and attentive. We never waited for drinks and I think I had 2 refills on my iced tea. She made one mistake, which she completely owned and resolved with no issues. For many of the sandwiches you can opt for a wrap instead with the same ingredients. I ordered the sandwich, not the wrap, but was initially brought the wrap. I ordered potato skins and they came out fast, hot, and I was actually impressed. These were some of the best skins I've seen/eaten. They weren't super small and horribly greasy. They had lots of cheese and bacon and looked really good. Everyone enjoyed their meal from the burger to the club wrap to the club sandwich. The kids got chicken fingers (done just right) and a crock of mac-n-cheese. I very much enjoyed their waffle fries with seasoned sour cream (yum). I will definitely be back....in my opinion, better than at least a few other local eating establishments with this particular bar/restaurant type of setting.

Yelp
I live near McHugh's and go there on an occasional basis. The food is pretty good for a pub/sports bar and the drinks are reasonably priced. The patio is nice and service is quick outside. We were there last week and I have an experience to share. I ordered a club sandwich. As we all know, these are always cut a certain way. Mine was cut strangely, in more than four pieces. The manager brought my food over and said this was his fault. If I wanted a new sandwich he'd gladly make one for me. I was totally fine with it as is. It tastes the same regardless of how it is cut. Anyway, he stopped over a little while later just to be sure I was okay with this. I really appreciated his attention and customer service. The cut of the sandwich wasn't a big deal, but if he hadn't said anything I would have thought "who cuts a club sandwich like this? they don't know what they are doing." However, he went out of his way to be sure I was happy - which I was!

Yelp
Best burger and fries in Savage with fast curbside service. The wild rice soup and turkey sandwich combo was also perfect.

Kristin W.

Yelp
We got food to go, and loved the burgers. Even my kids loved the food. I also appreciated that they support local schools with fundraisers. I tried this restaurant because of the fundraiser - but will definitely go back again to support this local business.

Jessica G.

Yelp
Love my bar. I am in the industry in a different city and people ask me if I know MCHughs. Of course. They know me as well.

Yelp
I wish this was better, since it's in my backyard, but unfortunately I've been disappointed too many times. This last time I ordered a Shamrock Burger, which has swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, dijon ailoi, served on a grilled parmesan crusted wheat bread. The texture of the bun was excellent. Everything else was tasteless. I was shocked at just how tasteless the burger was. I used the ailoi, but to no affect. The fries that came with it were also tasteless, other than salt. My wife, not being too hungry, ordered a pretzel and a side of fries. The pretzel sticks kind of looked like pretzel sticks, but the texture was more like a bun and again, no flavor. I did like the mustard that came with it, but the melted processed cheese/oil produce did not help. The one shining star was Sam, our waitress. She was perfect! Very fast service, very attentive without being bothersome, and able to anticipate what we wanted. When I turned down a second beer, she brought a glass of ice water without asking, in case I did want it. The atmosphere was average for a bar & grill, but they do need to find a way to dampen the noise in the restaurant area. With a full house, we could barely carry on a conversation. I also don't see the "Irish" theme. Yes, I did order the Shamrock burger, but other than the name, there was nothing irish about it, with SWISS cheese, FRENCH dijon, and ITALIAN parmesan cheese. As I look around, I also don't see much of an Irish tie in. If you're going to call yourself an irish sports bar, then embrace it!!

Nate P.

Yelp
We were there awhile back and had the absolute worst customer service from the General Manager. She ruined our experience. Service was great from the server but would definitely not recommend dinning there if the General Manager is there because if you have a problem it will not get resolved and if it does it will be handled very VERY poorly!!

Yelp
We live really close to McHugh's and have eaten here about 20 times in the past year. Here's the good & the ugly: The best items on the menu are the pizzas and the potato skins. They use real cheese for their skins (not the processed cheese spread gunk). The OK items are wings and burgers. You can't hit far off the mark with burgers and fries. The worst items: anything chicken. I don't know why but the chicken is ALWAYS rubbery and tough. The sandwiches are just as blech. We usually take our kids with us, who love the kids meals and the service is usually pretty good. The cocktails are decent and the atmosphere is ok- nothing special but it really doesn't need to be for a sports bar.
google avatar

Dani T.

Yelp
These guys do happy hour right Bogo for a dollar drinks and $5 apps. This was our first time in and we will definitely be back. We had the mini pizza and potato skins.

Sue T.

Yelp
I have been going to McHughs as a regular for years and have always enjoyed it. However today when the bartender was delivering my drink, she spilled it all over me and my husband's jacket, pants, shirt , purse and shoes. She was apologetic and I understand how accidents happen. We ordered cocktails and an appetizer and was comped 1 drink off our tab. I think this is enough said and am hesitant to go back.
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
The boneless wings and Thai chili pizza are my favorite! Great happy hour too! They also have Bingo on Wednesday nights which is a lot of fun! Cool patio in the summer as well!

Sinaj J.

Yelp
Jason was so rude to my daughters tonight. He didn't acknowledge them when they came in. He was unprofessional and didn't seem to care about his fowl attitude. He wasn't apologetic at all! I'll be telling EVERYBODY I know who frequents this establishment to not return. Don't go here unless you like crappy service and negative attitude! No Stars!!!!!

Jennifer S.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars, I would. Service was ok and the food, well we don't know because we left. We we're there on a Saturday for lunch with my mother who has Celiac disease. We asked to talk with the manager so we could ask a few questions. Upon arriving at our booth she was very rude and dismissive. She wouldn't even help us or answer our questions. We hate having to ask the questions but we have to. Because of her rudenss and unwillingness to help us, we left. I think her name was Jenna or something. When asked she wouldn't spell her name or clarify. As soon as she is gone, we'll give it another shot. She was awful! The owners should be embarrassed

J K.

Yelp
Over the past six months I have made about a half dozen stops at McHugh's. Despite their poor reputation and all the negative things I have experienced and witnessed there in the past, every time I was hoping it would be a better experience than the previous but unfortunately their staff consists of such poor quality. The atmosphere is a bit dumpy and the bar area each time has been gross! The bar is sticky, and the place has a raunchy smell to it. The noise level is obnoxious- so much echoing. You can't even have a conversation when there are only a few people in the bar. I have experienced about three different bartenders and really all but one (believe his name is Jason-very good) should be fired! The bartenders are very negative and rude. The bar is not that big and many times there are two bartenders but yet still it is a mess. Simply put, the bartenders are poor quality. They are inexperienced and inefficient. An overall lazy attitude and on a good day are mediocre at best. They biggest thing that cannot be overlooked is their blatant gossiping about their patrons and co-workers (including management) and the fact they don't seem to understand that they are there to service the customer. It is not a good sign when each time you visit an establishment the bartenders are gossiping about someone and that takes priority over their customers. The clueless bartender last night (8/30/19) is the worst one and the most unprofessional and unfriendly. She has a terrible attitude and is extremely rude - she needs to get out of the service industry!! Each time I have experienced her she has displayed very immature, bossy and rude service - she clearly has no desire to better herself. It is sad when you are in you mid 30's (guessing her age- she looks like she lives a rough lifestyle though so she could be younger) and you can't even make it in the service industry. From what I understand many others have observed her poor behavior and have had problems with her. Not sure why they keep her around- a quality establishment would not. The clientele is of all ages and is nothing special-mostly career drinkers. Food is good but it's too bad the lack of quality service ruins it. I try to support local but the customer is clearly not their priority. I will not be returning. Anywhere has better service and the same quality food.
