Montreal’s Best Sports Bars | Eater Montreal

Another Irish pub visit on our Montreal excursion.. great atmosphere cold beer and quick service at the bar . That's the trick sit at the bar get quick service. Food was mediocre at best but your in a Irish pub. Beer made it better . They serve some massive beer towels a seen by the picture here. Good place check it out ☘️🤙

Met a good friend here for a good pub meal. Had the best seats in the house! Nice cold beer, great food, however they screwed up our plates. I ordered fries and he ordered salad. I said it's OK and the waitress responded that she'd have to charge me an extra as it's fries that comes with the meal and not salad. She wanted to charge me for their screw up! The plates went back to the kitchen and they fixed the order. Delicious burger and fries!

Came for the food, stayed for the vibes! The bacon poutine? Next level amazing. We tried the butter chicken pizza too--sounds wild, tastes awesome. Kudos to Angie the bartender--super friendly, made us feel like regulars, and had some top-tier drink and food recs. Also... Kilkenny on tap. I'm obsessed. Pretty sure I could take down a whole keg solo (don't test me). Awesome spot, killer service, and just a good time all around. Can't wait to come back!

To start with I got there around noon. The staff Stava, Baisa, Bobby, Shane, Cici, Luke, and regular patron Eric were so inviting. I'm from the States and 1st time to Canada and Montreal. The people I met casually at McLeans and staff treated Emma n myself like family. So good..... instead of Jazz n Jamaican festival we stayed 12 hours. One of the best times in my life traveling. Will return for sure!

Surprisingly good food, really good value for downtown! We came in during a blizzard, Chenika was a great server and made us feel so welcome!!

Yelp
Where do I start with this review? Food, service, or incredibly friendly atmosphere? When we are on vacation we always try to find an Irish pub. This place did not disappoint. The atmosphere was great in the middle of the day. Our bartender Angie was so sweet and very attentive. She gave us some great advice about where to go and what to do while here. Angie is truly an ambassador for McLean's and Montreal. The poutine and the Jameson chili dog were over the top delicious. We enjoyed our afternoon so much we did not hesitate to return the next day. This will definitely be a special memory of the vacation.

Yelp
I had decided to meet up with some ex-work colleagues for some drinks since I was downtown but due to some people deciding to work from home and some people who worked onsite not being available after work, only one of my ex-work colleagues managed to show up. I arrived there alone at about 5:15pm-ish and as I walked in, I was asked whether I wanted to sit at the bar or sit at a table. I opted for a table. I was then given the food menu and a drinks menu. I took a look at the drinks menu and wasn't sure what I would have. I asked the server how large certain drinks were and then opted for the 3 litres of beer. My server asked if I was sure and then I mentioned that someone would be showing up and she informed me that 3 litres should be fine then since she has seen two people drink this before. For me, I had a rough idea of the amount since I've had or bought 2 litre soft drink bottles before at the grocery store but never drank a 2 litre bottle of soft drink myself in a single sitting. When my server brought the 3 litres of beer, I was shocked by the size of it as it didn't come in a standard pitcher but came in some sort of a dispensing container which was tube-shaped. I noticed that there was a patron WiFi access point name so I asked the server for the password while I waited for my friend to show up and she provided it to me. I browsed on my mini-tablet while I tried the beer and waited for my friend to show up. He showed up at about 6:00pm and he told me that he wasn't planning on drinking a lot but did luckily he did help me to go through the 3 litres of beer as it would have been too much for me to finish myself (although he only had 2 glasses of beer. I believe that the server that I had was finishing her shift so she dropped by our table to ask if we would mind settling up the bill which is normally what happens due to tips, etc. and it wasn't an issue so I paid for the beer and we continued to drink at the table. The place does get loud in the evening so at times, it was difficult to hear my friend and I felt that I had to shout/yell. We left shortly after finishing the beer. In a rush to leave, I forgot that I left my umbrella at the side of the table and as I was going home on the metro, I remembered. I called and the person I spoke with informed me that there were a few umbrellas in their lost & found that matched my description. As I would be downtown again the following day, I asked if I could pick it up tomorrow and was informed that I just needed to ask for the "lost & found" area. I showed up the following day during my lunch and when I mentioned to the hostess that I was a patron last night and forgot my umbrella at the side table, she immediately handed it to me without me having to go through the "lost & found" area. The only minor point that I had to say about my experience in McLean's Pub is that they either don't have or don't advertise any 5a7 special pricing as I didn't see any mention of it in the menu or on the table.

Yelp
Great atmosphere on a hockey night. Friendly service and fast. Good selection on beers. Wings were a little small. Loved the fish n chip. Moist inside and good crunch. Home fries are tasty. We enjoyed our meal

Matthew R.

Yelp
Disregard any review below 5 stars. Came here for a 4 day hockey tournament and ended up coming to this location at some point, every single night! The food was incredible! The burgers and sandwiches are amazing! The staff is incredible too! Ask for Judy! She's hilarious!!!

Yelp
Traditional Irish Pub, with above average food. Friendly service makes for an inviting place for a pint and good food.

A E.

Yelp
Best glass of water in town! Stumbled upon this on our journey and our beers were accompanied by these perfect waters, not once but twice. Also tried the hot dog poutine, best poutine we tried in all of the meals and days in Montréal, the meltiest cheese curds! Give it a go, lots of sports on if you are a sports fan.

Yelp
Sat outside here and had drinks. Good service. There were people playing music in the square right across the street so you got free music with your booze. Depending on the day the players will be good or awful.

Yelp
Talk about disappointed. I went in for a bite to eat and a drink or two , and ended up coming out feeling like I was robbed . To be clear , the waitress and bartender were awesome , but the food and the prices were downright criminal . First up was my fish and chips . The fish was some kind of bottom feeder junk fish . If it was cod as they stated ,it was older than king Neptune. Not only was it rancid , the French fries and the fish looked as they had been deep fried in heavy duty industrial tractor oil . I also had two double crown royals . The drinks were decent though . The shocker was the price. $87 for rancid fish and chips , and 2 doubles . That is with 15% tip . As I said I don't blame the service staff . I wouldn't recommend, I might go back next time I'm in Montreal , if only because I give everyone a second chance . This time I'll be more wary

Yelp
I stopped in after a long walk looking for a quiet pint or two's refreshment. I certainly got that along with a friendly chat with the barmaid who was attentive, but gave space as well. There's a good selection of draught beers and spirits, enough to cater for all tastes. I didn't try any of the food so cannot comment on that. With lots of TV's it's easy to watch most sports games. I'll definitely would come here again next time I'm in Montreal.

Chris S.

Yelp
Walked in and I assume cause I'm not a regular I waited 10 mins and seated myself and go no service at all, watched the waitress address others as the came in the door and the bar tender rather dance an chat up the locals than serve new guess, will never walk foot into this place again and I come to town at least twice a month, worst service ever! But there is a great bar next door and it's a 1 min walk away, Peel Pub for the save! 11th of April at about 5:15pm is when I was in the establishment.
google avatar

Yelp
Honestly I felt a little apprehensive walking into this somewhat dark pub, but I was greeted by a friendly host and I felt right at home. I'm not a poutine fan, but the butter chicken poutine was spot on! And the burger was grilled to perfection. My only real concern was the bathroom downstairs which seemed a little damp.

Iliana F.

Yelp
Pete bartender super rude I am a female and he discriminated against me. I came to watch football and my favourite celebrity Taylor Swift is dating one of the players, I simply yelled omg yes Taylor when she came on the screen and be brutally told me off. Meanwhile all the guys have been screaming all afternoon and that was ok. When I asked him why he did this he said I was being annoying (he said this exactly to my face.) this is so rude and no way to treat customers.
google avatar

Sophia A.

Yelp
Awesome Pub! Dave let's you put any game you want and drinks were awesome! We had some fries and overall great time! If you need to watch a game while your in Montreal this is the spot to go! COLD BEER! NFL GAMES ON INCLUDING REDZONE!! Great spot
google avatar

Thatcher W.

Yelp
I came in for a pint (or too many) after a long day of work and was taken aback by how friendly the staff was. I believe the bartender's name is Angie. She never left my glass empty for more than a moment without checking in. The Guinness was cold and perfectly served. The price for a pint was a bit steep but I guess it's downtown Montréal in 2021 so it's not all that bad. The only mediocre thing I noticed were a lot of wires hanging down from the TVs near the front of the bar. Somewhat unsightly. It could easily be tidied up by management if they took the time. Really appreciated the staff though. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
While flying from California to Montreal, I found McLean's on yelp. I sent a message asking if they could hold a table for my group so we can watch the Ducks v Sens game. I got an immediate response from the owner it was no problem, but no sound as the Habs game would trump our game. No problem! When we got there, bad news. Rogers TV blocked our game. No worries we still had to eat. We were led to the back, past the slot machines, and up the stairs to a cozy nook all of our own. There were tvs surrounding us, just too bad it wasn't our game. Our server was excellent. She first asked each of us our name, wrote it down, and then wrote our order based on our names. By the middle of the evening she actually called to us by name. How personal! She was sassy and she was organized. We did have 1 or 2 orders mixed up, but it was corrected. She even divided our cheque based on party rather than giving us one big bill. Maybe they do that in Montreal but we don't get that luxury in California! I can't find anything bad about the place.. .well except our game was blacked out, but that's Rogers TV, not the bars. Food was good, but I after visting other places in Montreal, it wasn't the greatest. I'd definitely patronize them again if I am in town.

Yelp
Like a warm blanket on a cold winter day, this oasis on the middle of downtown has served me and my friends well for about 25 years. Like Neil Young sang about a small town in the song Helpless, "All my changes were there" That's how I feel about McLean's. It's the friendly staff, the old wood tables, chairs and wall paneling, the TVs, the pool tables upstairs, the Habs games watched, and the time Carolina beat us in the playoffs and my buddy Rick came as close as I have ever seen to a live heart attack. The memories, the dates, the times we came here to pre-drink, post drink, and those other nights when we just stayed put here the whole time. The stories I could tell would only be rivalled by those about the Peel Pub...(not the new bullshit location next door, the real one on the corner of St. Catherine and Peel, may god rest its soul) The food here is average pub fare but always hits the spot. I hope it NEVER changes. I fucking love you McLean's! Yours Truly,

Yelp
Came by for a quick 5-7 drink. It's a cool place, very spacious, quick service, giant beer bucks. I ordered the onion rings to share with my boyfriend and although the portion was generous, the onion rings weren't good. Very soft and tasteless. It could be a cool place to meet up with friends and have a drink. Might come back and try some other food.
google avatar

Nicholas G.

Yelp
Fantastic establishment, service, and food!! I ate too much. I enjoyed some of that Alexander Keith's red which is perfect match for the atmosphere. I smashed the pickles then had a burger that was amazing. Really cool spot and great people! Will be a go to when i'm in Montreal.
google avatar

Yelp
Getting towards the end of my day of visiting Montréal, my FitBit had measured 15000 steps as I walked in to McLean's. That calls for a beer! Well served by Kenny the bartender, who helpfully poured said beer and in a friendly manner helped me find a very fancy restaurant for dinner. And not just for me. The Bruins fans who came in later also got a recommendation. Absolutely awesome. Sure, I could have stayed at McLean's, but I can have a great burger and some sports fans anywhere. I wanted something a bit fancier.

Donald L.

Yelp
I spent 2 afternoons at McLeans and the experience just got better and better. First day was just beer and atmosphere was excellent. Second day was more beer but then I went for food. The steak and mushroom sub should be the only thing they sell, I can't belive they could possible have anything tastier than that steak sub. The other highlight was the staff. Each day i was there i was there during staff change. Each crew was incredible, friendly and overall amazing. Im not jn Montreal that often, but McLeans will be my first stop everytime i go. Amazing overall experience, i can say enough good things.

Yelp
This is so far my favourite pub. It's our go to place when we want to hangout after work. This place has the power to change my mood after a long day of work. They have the best chicken wings in the area. Their nachos, pastas, burgers are amazing. Great atmosphere as they have a pool table, enjoyable music and staff is friendly and active. I've been there so many times and I don't understand how I'm only writing a review now. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
While on our trip to Montreal, Candace and I accidentally stumbled into the world's worst place. We promptly left and headed next door and found McLean's. To be fair, anything would have looked great in comparison, but McLean's was cool regardless. It happened to be Comedy Open Mic night, which we were a bit trepidacious about, but it ended up being really fun. We saw some good acts and also some other acts. The last act of the night was the bartender. I'll use that as a smooth transition into discussing the service. The bartender was great. I've always considered tending bar to be an art, and Peter was clearly very skilled technically. Watching him perform brought about pure pleasure. It's always a toss up whether or not your drink is going to be satisfyingly strong, but Peter was definitely generous. He also remembered my name throughout the night, which is always appreciated. If I had one complaint, it's that he could have been tidier, but I'm probably just being up tight.
google avatar

Ryan K.

Yelp
I've been here multiple times over the years. I truly love the pub scene in Montreal. McLean's pub definitely is one of go to pubs in the city. The menu is extensive, including a lot of the usual pub fair. I went for a French onion soup and a sub. Everything was great. They have a nice selection of beers to chose from too. What I really love about this place, aside from the great pub vibe, is the staff. Super friendly, especially the wait staff. Just adds to a great night out. Cheers!
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
Solid bar service, French onion soup is ok, fish & chips were ok. No beer selection beyond mass produced and larger breweries (what can I say, I'm a beer snob). Beer prices were good, whiskey not so much.
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
I walked over just after 6:00pm so I can't say if there's much parking. I would guess that a public parking lot would be close by for sure. The pub was busy when I arrived but not to the point that there was any kind of long wait time. There were still few tables popping up and a spot for me at the bar close to the Jays game and Raptors game. I decided to try the Smoked Meat Poutine and it was exactly as advertised. I also had the beer special of a pint of Labatt 50 for $5.00. I suspect that after dinner the evening there continues with the buzz of socializing and drinks. If you want to be in and around one of the more frequented locations this pub is a good choice. The staff were really friendly and greeted me right away and the bartender made sure I had what I wanted through out.
google avatar

Ka M.

Yelp
This place is alright. We came to try to watch a NFL game but left at halftime because of the music. The music was awful and so, so loud. Think of basic covers of boring, semi popular songs and then add a harmonica. When the singer announced he'd be playing all night, we made the decision to leave (as did several people near us). Would have been better to have the sound from the game on or even the radio... Food is bar food, nothing fancy.
google avatar

Jim H.

Yelp
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. We always visit this pub whenever we're in Montréal. Close to the Metro and a Habs hangout on game night.
google avatar

Alberto V.

Yelp
At an Irish bar they chose to play a crappy saskachewan game over the fighting irish for non locals instead of keeping the local crowd happy
google avatar

jd h.

Yelp
Excellent service, average food. I had fish and chips and it was not that good. The ambiance is great -- a happening place prior to a Habs game. The waitresses are good and attentive.

Yelp
Great pub! Went on a Thursday; great food and drink! Judith, our bartender, was kind and a great server. Awesome to talk with and made the evening and all around great time! Came back on Friday and was taken care of by Kiki. Great personality who made our night out memorable. If this comment is read by staff, please know Kiki was a great representative of McLean's! She was attentive and fun to talk with. Overall, the experience at McLean's was excellent; highly recommended!
google avatar

Denis M.

Yelp
McLean's has been the group "watering hole" for my friends and I for the past several years. From the casual nights of them playing quarters or celebrating birthdays or foolishly ordering a second 10L tower or getting some freestyle rap from our waitress (shoutout to Adrienne she can drop some serious fire) it's always a good time. The only thing holding me back from giving it that 5/5 is that some of the food is a miss while others are quite good. The alldressed pizza offered on on Hockey nights during habs games is my go to at this point. The wings are a good alternative - I've had the honey garlic though. The big point of contention has to be the nachos. It's gotten to the point where even La Cage does em better. :( That being said that won't stop me from going to McLeans, but I would certainly like to give them that last star.
google avatar

Tman S.

Yelp
The staff is very welcoming we had several drinks and also ate a few apps..I will try this place again when we roll thru we frequent from New England alot. thanks folks

Yelp
This place was just amazing. The tower beers are great and service is amazing. Shout out Sarah the bartender.
google avatar

Matthew B.

Yelp
The bloody caesar comes with a heaping hand of bacon, what more could you want? Although it is not the most aesthetically pleasing bar, it clearly has a lot of history and heart and is a great place to enjoy a few beers or cocktails and classic bar food. Kenny the bartender was particularly great, and ensured we had an excellent time at McLean's with good conversation, speedy service and extra bacon with our Caesars. If you are looking for high-end, this isnt the place for you. But if you're looking or a good time, I would highly recommend McLean's
google avatar

Cindy N.

Yelp
Oh McLeans is the place, where the Jameson we chase with a pint of cold Guiness Beer Where Kenny Mac is the the star, standing behind the bar he's the best booze slinger by far Oh and on Sunday at noon, I'll be there to lick last night's wounds, With a Bacon Cesear in hand (once you've had one you'll understand) McLeans Pub will have you doing a headstand.... or an Irish jig, or the moonwalk, maybe a riverdance. Either way, you should go. The staff is great and uber friendly and the food is tasty. But above all go for the laughs...and the beer of course don't forget the beer. Does Whiskey count as Beer? Fuggedaboutit'

Yelp
Some friends and I stumble into Mclean's this morning after a long night of drinks and debauchery. We're greeted by a jovial bartender by the name of Kenny, he greets us with a warm welcome and more importantly some witty banter!! The "Kehd" is quite the character, this bar is quite the place. It's the first time I wanted to befriend a bartender but won't be the last time I come to this place!! Charlie
google avatar

Yelp
I just love McLeans! I started going with a friend for a good burger at lunch about 3-4 yrs ago. You got a seat at the bar, burger in almost minutes and after a few visits - Tim had the Crown Royal ready to pour when I walked in the door. McLeans to me, must be what Cheers felt like for Norm. There's always a game on their multiple tv's, huge towers of beer, staff that get to know you and what you drink and surprisingly amazing samosas! Ya there's that the one guy at the bar with the repetitive stories no one cares to hear, but Cheers wouldn't have been the same without Cliff ;) Not too long ago the legend of Hurley's (otherwise known as Kenny's bar to most) joined McLeans and most of us have changed our weekend watering hold to McLeans as well. In your first 5mins of being served by Kenny at McLeans - you'll know why. What can I say? The selection of whiskey, great company and even former staff constantly frequenting- McLeans found the niche of not only being a great place for tourists, but the locals as well.

Yelp
I ate/drank here on my recent trip to Montreal. I arrived with my boyfriend and a friend. There was free WiFi so I was able to check in. The drinks were cheap for the city, and strong. Just what we were looking for. I ordered the vegetable samosas. They were delicious and the perfect snack/appetizer. I love how they came with lots of fresh veggies. My boyfriend got mozzarella sticks, and our friend a local to Montreal orders the poutine. They both enjoyed their food very much. The atmosphere was very loud, almost divey, but clean at the same time. Despite the noise I enjoyed my time here. This is a great spot to grab a beer/drink.
google avatar

E V.

Yelp
Sarah was very nice behind the bar. If I come back to Montreal I would return here. I had the wings and fries- it was a great portion but the wings were a little small- a lot of little wings rather than a few large ones. Some people might prefer it.
google avatar

Yelp
Hit this place up after working all day in Boston and then driving the 5 hours to Montreal. It was a lot of fun. We arrived and while the bar was crowded, we got a table right away. We ordered the beer tower that was a perfect way to start off the night. They had a great juke box and the crowd was really diverse and having fun. I threatened my group to drop a $20 in and put Justin Beiber on again and again. Needless to say, that did not go over to well with the table. Our server Jackieline was friendly and efficient. As soon as the drinks started running low, she was on top of it. We were certainly not her only table, so she managed it well. The part that I liked best about this place was that it stayed open until 3am. We did not get to Montreal until about 1130p. Headed out around 1215a, so it was nice to have a place that was still going strong until 3a. We had a great time here! Stop by if you are there.
google avatar

Wesley M.

Yelp
We literally lived here yesterday as it was the first bar on NYE that didn't have a line or crowd. We watched the U.S. Vs Canada game (Canada won) and had some Labatt towers and poutine. We even got 4 free tickets to Germany vs Finland game! Really cool place with great service. The food was just ok. We also rang in the new year here. You get free Jameson shot at midnight!
google avatar

Kayla L.

Yelp
This bar is amazing!! As soon as we walked in we were greeted and sat right away. Our server, Destiny is the absolute best. She went above and beyond and was super helpful and friendly. I highly suggest this bar for good food and drinks.

Patrick G.

Yelp
For anyone who hasn't been here you need to stop by. Great staff, good vibe. Try the butter chicken pizza! Its a flavor explosion. There is Typical Irish and French favorites with all the Poutines you'll ever need. Bar tender Kenny will take good care of you! Whoever gave this place less than 4 stars must be a grumpy person.
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
Great place. Go see Kenny at the bar. Be sure to ask him about how he lost his bet on the patriots... Very friendly place, they make you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. Shots of Jamo all around. Will be back for sure! Update 2/5/16 Kenny not only did they make the playoffs , they won the whole dam thing.......but I think we all lose seeing you in a Patriots Cheerleader outfit!!!!

Saptarshi C.

Yelp
Food and drinks were not bad. Not much options for cocktails. Ambiance and music was good.
google avatar

Glen P.

Yelp
This place is a definite 5 star pub. The food was top notch. I recommend the sausage dinner. It comes with rice, fries and a salad. The fries alone make it worth the trip. The beer select was very good with about 15 on tap. The wait staff was friendly and a bunch of hockey fans....go figure. The thing that makes this so is the atmosphere. Just a great place to be. Check it out!

This place was great! The staff is super friendly and most of them speak English very well. I must have stayed for about four hours. I really wanted to see more of the city, but I was having such a great time with the bartender Kenny and many other locals, that I didn't want to leave. Not to mention, they have my favourite beer on tap, Alexander Keith's IPA. I had a few of those, as well as the Italian Poutine, which is fries, tomato sauce, and cheese curds. It was awesome. And yhey have quite a few TV's, so if you want to watch a big sporting event, this is a great place to do it. I can't think of one bad thing to say about it. It is definitely on my list for places to go again, next time I'm in Montreal.
