"Ruby’s Spa is part of Edgemere, a quirky estate in Troutdale, which is a short day trip from the city and also fun for a short overnight. McMenamin’s (the group that owns Edgemere) is famous for whimsical wall paintings and a subtly renaissance feel, and the spa is no exception—you’ll find quirky designs on the walls, dark wood furniture, and a warm soaking pool outside the old white building. While you’re in town, stop at one of Egemere’s famous brew pubs or catch some live music. "

I booked the Ruby Spa package and I was truly impressed by the whole experience! My favorite session of the day was the sun & moon facial. Every single staff member I encountered was kind, respectful and helpful. The soaking pool was also incredible and if you book a treatment through the spa you can utilize the pool all day! My friend and I grabbed lunch halfway through our spa day - the perfect combo! I will be back as soon as I can!

I gave 1 star because I really enjoyed the greenery outside of the hot tub area. Here are the concerns: 1. The changing rooms are very small 2. There is no drinking water by the hot tub. It’s 104 degrees, and we had 90 minutes out there (HOWEVER there was a large, black, fillable water jug that would be used for people in the hot tub, so after we went and asked about it, a staff person came out and grabbed it - she did not look at ANY of us as we all said “thank you!” MULTIPLE times. That horrible attitude was made clear about 30 min later when we realized she was not returning.) 3. Outside of the hot tub there are 0 chairs 4. The shower is scary dirty. There was also a shower chair (yay for inclusivity) that had not been cleaned maybe EVER 5. In a TINY lobby there was a fireplace with a fire that had been put out recently, and the smell of the smoke was so bad it was nauseating 6. The people working the counter were not friendly at ALL Ex 1- I use a walker. I have never been here before. I asked the best way to get back to the water, and I very kindly said I was happy to go back outside and use the ramp, but I wanted to make sure I was following directions in case there was another way…. The lady was obviously annoyed that I had asked her a question, and she said, “or you could use the stairs” and she pointed to invisible stairs that were “that way” ( they were in the hallway through a large door) - did I mention that I use this walker because I am a healing cancer patient and I am seeking positive environments? Yeah. - we soaked and came back in a little early to not hold up others, BUT NO, the tiny dressing room now had a line. This is the most uncomfortable thing when you’ve just relaxed, want to use the restroom, get dressed, and keep the calmness. Did I mention I left my robe outside and our LOCKER keys were in the pocket? We opened the window and tried ro get the attention of our family, and failed. Ugh. So we asked VERY nicely if the front desk folks had any spare keys. She said “ oh maybe, I guess, if I can find any”. REALLY omg. I was over her terrible charm. Not going back here ever again. $45 for 90 Min is post-covid raping for this incredibly under serving establishment.

I visited Ruby's for a manicure for the first time, and I was so glad I did! I'm a big fan of anything McMenamins, and this service did not disappoint. Iza,the nail tech, was friendly, down to earth, and clearly enjoyed her job. The body butter they use for the treatment was unbelievably luxurious. Make sure you make an appointment well enough in advance. I booked about two weeks prior to a special evenf, and barely got in. The next time I am in town, I plan on spending more time at Ruby's Spa.

I enjoyed my time at Ruby Spa thoroughly! The building and decor are super cute, and my treatments were fabulous. Thank you to Heidi, who was super professional and made me feel like a million bucks!!

I purchased a $500 gift card and 2 sweatshirts for my wife for her birthday. She made an appointment to utilize the spa for a deep tissue massage for herself and her sister and was extremely upset and disappointed because her sister traveled 200 miles and she didn’t receive the deep tissue massage I paid for. The massage therapist said I’m small and can only do so much! My wife will never return nor will she ever recommend your facility for any services. When you advertise deep tissue massage you need to make sure your employees are qualified to provide the service!

My favorite place to unwind and forget about my daily troubles. Excellent people, beautiful spaces. The tea is my favorite perk. My facial with Monica was heavenly! If you love yourself, book it.

Booked a foot treatment for hubby. His masseuse was great but the spa was out of the foot bags for the paraffin dip which you pay in advance for. So the poor guy tried to use the hand mit for paraffin dip on my husband's size 12 foot. You can imagine the issue. Well, he didn't get the true experience and that is irritating, especially since this was his first spa visit. Left a not so great first impression. They should have removed the charge for that. They did not. And the masseuse really didn't care. So in that respect poor customer service. Do better.

Relaxing experience with massage and soak in the Spa pool. Lovely atmosphere. Clean linens, accommodating staff. Rustic, cool aesthetic consistent with the McMenamins brand. Way better experience than other spas.

Yelp
This is a beautiful place to be hang out at when weather is nice. There are a couple of restaurants, a few bars, mini-golf, cigars. It is also a hotel, so they know hospitality. There is also a spa. Dog friendly. There is parking. During spring and summer, flowers and landscape is beautiful. It's opened late, can continue on the night with drinks and cigars outside in one of the many sitting areas or fire pits.

Yelp
Last night we wandered over to McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale. Once a county poor farm in 1911, it's now a favorite destination for its quirky hotel, restaurants, taprooms, spa, and winery. We started with a cozy dinner at the Black Rabbit, then wandered through the gardens. We ended the night in the underground winery, sipping a cold cider while listening to the soulful voice of Jacob Westfall. Edgefield always feels a bit magical and is a perfect getaway, even if it's only for the evening.

Yelp
(From August 2024) Many Oregonians are familiar with McMenamins, the multi-purpose venue that's a hotel, golf course, restaurant, brewery, event space, and concert venue all rolled into one location. Edgefield is the concent venue which I had the pleasure of attending back in late August for the 311/AWOLNation/Neon Trees show. As many of you know, 311 is the band I travel for so when I saw they would be performing in this neck of the woods during my time in Portland, I had to get my ticket to check it out. I was pleased with the show; very good sound quality and the concert goers were friendly and pleasant. Also props to the security team and the crowd for helping the girl near me get medical attention after she was dehydrated and near unconscious. The area is can be confusing to navigate to find merchandise, drinks, or restrooms; be sure you follow the signs. Definitely recommend the VIP area since you're up close and don't have to deal with large crowds. I wouldn't mind coming to another show here. Pretty good!

Yelp
The hotel was packed and sold out for the evening that I most recently attended a concert, but I have gotten to stay in the hotel before. There is such a huge variety of amenities to take advantage of. Multiple restaurants and bars, movie theatre, vineyards, soaking pool, golf course, and more! Although it is a more adult-centric hotel it is also family friendly. The staff here is also great. I have always had a great time here eating, drinking, and exploring the property with family and friends. It is also very convenient to have a hotel to stay at right after a concert!

Yelp
For my birthday weekend my wife planned a trip to Edgefield. I had never been but I can say we will be back. We stayed Friday to Saturday and had a blast. Friday we had booked ourselves a day at Ruby Spa. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing. We got there a bit before our appointment at 12:15 pm but they got us checked in and showed us to the back. We both had a facial, body scrub, massage and pedicure. All of which were lovely. The pedicure was a little underwhelming but that is simply because everything else was great. Our appointments were pretty much back to back besides our last appointment which was our pedicure but it allowed us enough time to check in to our room before coming back down! After our time at Ruby spa we had dinner at the Black Rabbit which was delicious. They had a great cheese and meat board! Overall dinner was great and service was also great. The bread pudding was a tad disappointing. The alcohol was so strong it was off putting but that was minor compared to everything. Last part of that night was soaking in the spa. It was great that the Tea House was open and serving drinks! Adult only time was by far the right choice on when to come! We had a nice relaxing time even in the pouring down rain! The next day after breakfast we sat up by the golf course with drinks next to the fire, walked around, did a brewery tour, played pool and enjoyed our time. There is always something to do at Edgefield and quite frankly it was an amazing time. The room was spacious, cool and comfortable. 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
I get the concept and I appreciate the quirky/historical/eclectic vibe. It was fun to explore for a bit and plenty of people seemed to be enjoying themselves. But as a hotel/venue this place is only practical in ideal weather and is obviously intended for able bodied adults without children. It's 95 degrees outside and the only climate control available in our west facing room is an old box fan. It was hot everywhere but worse in our room. Tried to feed my kid a PB&J before everything becomes 21+ later in the evening and got put on a waitlist at an absolutely empty restaurant. Apparently Monday at 5pm is reservation only. While we were waiting on a nearby sofa an older guest expressed disappointment at seeing a kid at Edgefield (prob wasn't meant to hear and this didn't come from staff, but made me feel like kids aren't common or particularly welcome.) My mom who uses a cane was instructed to leave her handicap spot to park closer to our room in the winery wing...which got us much closer but also added several additional staircases. Between accessibility and a wild layout, people with mobility issues should absolutely stay elsewhere. And to top it all off the service was pretty unremarkable. Everyone was hot and irritable, point of sale technology was glitching...I'm not holding it against anyone it just went that much further toward not really feeling welcome. Probably a cool concert venue though?

Yelp
Nice stay at McMenamins! Not only was it whimsical, relaxing but fun. Spa, had a nightcap, saw a movie with dining all in one location. Especially loved walking around in the terry cloth robes. Service was excellent at the Rabbit and movie theater. Love the theater has an option to enjoy your meal while watching the movie. Hope to be back for one of those concerts. 2024, Free parking.

Yelp
We love Edgefield--it's been the backdrop for so many great memories over the years. It's such a chill, one-of-a-kind spot to hang out with friends, wander the gardens, kick back on the porch, and enjoy a beer and a burger.

Yelp
O McMenamin's, you continue to impress yet disappoint me, confound and bedazzle me. My latest trip to the sprawling Edgefield compound was not for a concert this time, but for a couple day trip to relax in the Columbia River Gorge. It's a great base camp for adventures into the Gorge and so yes, I stayed over in the hotel portion (part of the main lodge building) for the first time ever - but I'll get to that shortly. First let's tackle the Black Rabbit restaurant or rather the bar area of said restaurant where I had breakfast one morning. It's also in the main building and as with all McMenamin's properties, the ambiance here is a total delight, with rustic old architecture paired to interesting, highly creative artwork....I felt like I could sit here for hours. The service, I gotta say, on my visit was 5 stars exceptional: I was left wanting for nothing, even though the staff was clearly slammed on a Friday. True pros, through and through, from the drink orders to the check ins to the serving, it was all spot on. The food, on the other hand, not so much; I had your basic 3 egg scramble with toast and sausage, and the eggs --sad to say -- were hard and flavorless, and the toast, like cardboard. Def not worth the $19, but I tipped well because the service was just so friggin good. And the hotel part? Again, charming artwork in old rustic rooms, but as a place to sleep, it just sucks. The rooms, though fairly decently sized, aren't at all soundproof so you hear everything that happens outside your door and window at all hours, and the bathrooms are communal shared affairs where you have to walk down the hall with a key card every time. Even at 3am. No thanks - especially for the price they charge. That said, the grounds here are delightful and the Rubys soaking pool in the building down the path is super cool. Just temper your expectations, pick your experiences (I.e. stay in a different hotel) and you'll have a good time.

Yelp
I first want to review the dining experience. We had dinner in the Black Rabbit Restaurantand I was very pleased with my entree. Seems like most restaurants serve the same dishes. Not here. I had the orange chicken served on a Ned of mashed potatoes with green beans. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the orange sauce was just enough. Would order it again. We also had breakfast and shared the Denver omelette. Plenty for both my husband and me and, again, one of the best Denver omelettes I have ever had. The service was excellent. The staff at this McMENAMINS are there to please. Very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
A lot to see here! Every building on the estate has its charm, the main lobby is cozy and the lower level has a pool bar. Theres a lot of garden space with paths for walking, and the berry patches are gorgeous. It feels like walking through a village from a different time period. Jerry's Ice House and the Distillery both made great drinks and have lovely interiors, I would love to come here when it's raining.

Vivian H.

Yelp
Hotel is nice albeit lots of loud drunk people wandering the halls late at night with no regard for their volume. (At least they're not driving.) Pool is huge and fantastic Taking off lots of stars for the restaurants. Extraordinarily under staffed and slow service and when the food finally does come out it is cold. Eat somewhere else

Julie D.

Yelp
It was a very busy night at the restaurant so I will forgive them that. Right off when our group of 6 went to order. We were given a list of items they were out of . Like about 5 things. So 4 of our party had the fish and fries. The fries were ice cold on all plates. So no one ate those. They tried to let our server know but he was sooooo busy. Kind of a big disappointment.

Yelp
I ordered a bacon burger and wound up in the hospital for 10 days. It didn't taste right but I thought that might be because they forgot the bacon so they brought it to me cold and way under cooked. It just didn't taste right. 10 hours later I'm projectile vomiting and I have never been so sick in my 60 plus years on this planet. I went by ambulance to the hospital where the doctor told me my kidney was almost shut down. I had eaten there 2 weeks prior and it was great. No problems. This time the meat tasted like it should have been thrown out days ago. I only ate a few bites. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Ten days in hospital tells you how sick the food made me. Stay away!

Yelp
McMenamins Edgefield has everything you need all in one place. From a wine bar, to brewery, to a swimming pool, and meeting halls. The swimming pool is heat by a boiler, so even if the power goes out, you can still use it; since, the water will remain warm. In addition, they have a cool gift shop where you can pick up one of their wines and a T-shirt. the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Most rooms don't have a bathroom, so you have to use one of the many community bathrooms. This is something I don't like, but I will overlook; since, they are very clean and kept up. The nice thing about this place is like you are on a treasure hunt. There are so many neat wall paintings that you can spend have a day just looking at them.

Yelp
This was our first time at this location. We had heard such incredible things from friends and family, so we decided to check it out. What a disappointment. We had some of the worst service we have ever experienced. Our bartender greeted us and brought out the menu. He left and didn't come back for about 10 minutes, after that he asked us what we wanted to drink and seemed as if he was in a rush to leave. Never checked in on us. We had to call him over to order some tater tots. After 15-20 minutes we thought that it should be ready, but we kept waiting. We again, had to call him over to order another round of drinks and that's when he noted that he completely forgot to put our order of tots in. We continued to wait and eventually the tots came out. Finally, we had to call someone over yet again to bring our check. They brought us the incorrect check. It had things we didn't order on it and it was confusing. We asked about it and he had an attitude when we asked, and then realized he made an error and brought us the correct check. Overall, a VERY disappointing experience. Would never come back to this location.

Yelp
I had a nice stay here! Unfortunately I stayed during a really rainy weekend, so was not able to fully appreciate the grounds. I would love to come back and explore a bit in nicer weather! The hotel is very cool. It used to be a nursing home and has a lot of really incredible art and history. Our room was very large and had cool decor and special touches. The bed was comfy, but the pillows were pretty small and terrible. We opted for the shared bathrooms and they were fine. I would have hoped they would have been cleaned more often since so many guests were using them-they weren't always clean when I went in (lots of hair, stains, leftover items). It was also a bit awkward to get up to brush my teeth in pajamas and have to walk by several restaurants with non-hotel stayers. I love how there are so many restaurants and bars on site and they they serve food and wine that is local. It was a magical experience, I just wish I had brought my own pillow.

Yelp
McMenamin's Edgefield has long been my staycation of choice in the Portland metro area. I've celebrated countless milestones in this special place, including birthdays, weddings, and much-needed mental health days when I visit to relax and unwind. Truly, if you were to ask me what makes living in Portland special... it might be McMenamin's Edgefield. The hotel and recreational complex holds that important of a place in my heart. Located minutes from Portland on the cusp of the Columbia River Gorge, this historic hotel is a jewel worth discovering. I'm in love with the vibe of this place! It offers much more than a night's rest, the hotel truly is a living gallery of creativity and imagination. Lively murals fill every surface, from public corridors to secluded nooks and crannies throughout the property. Guests will find colorful mosaics, quirky sculptures, and whimsical details that evoke a sense of wonder and intrigue everywhere they look. I've been visiting this unique property for several decades, and every visit feels like my first as I discover details I hadn't seen before. My number one recommendation to any McMenamin's newbie is to wander throughout the entire property, and pay close attention to the details those in a rush may overlook. The McMenamin family deserves recognition for their remarkable achievements in restoring historic buildings throughout the Pacific Northwest. As an avid fan of history and architecture, I can't help but marvel at the painstaking restoration of the many buildings and structures at the Edgefield property. So many lovely details showcase the property's rich past as a former county poor farm. The design choices create an environment that is imbued with nostalgia and whimsy, and makes each stay at Edgefield a memorable experience. The property feels like a fairytale village with an impressive range of amenities, catering to every whim and fancy. Visitors will find cigar bars, a golf course, a spa and saltwater soaking pool, music venues, multiple restaurants, a theater, art shops and so much more! There is something for everyone at McMenamin's Edgefield. For me, the aforementioned saltwater soaking pool is crown jewel of my Edgefield experience. It's tucked away amidst lush greenery, and meanders through a garden setting with intimate coves and remarkably private spaces for such a large pool. The hot, mineral-rich water is a treat I look forward to for weeks on end. This stress-free environment really hits the spot! There is much to discover at McMenamin's Edgefield, the unique property is a must-see attraction for those wanting to soak up a little Portland charm.

Yelp
Very interesting property! We stopped to check it all out, loved the cool gift shop full of local fare, and had some lovely drinks & apps at the Power Station bar. I had the cider flight (delicious), others had the beer flight (6 pours of 5 oz!) and the last had the yummy seltzer-so good! Stopped at the glass blowing shop & bought a few Christmas ornaments on the way out. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. I would love to return!

Yelp
I love this place, but I'm not impartial since we hosted our daughter's wedding here a number of years ago. I love the ambiance of the place with all the dark wood, the murals, creaky stairs, etc. I returned for the first time since the wedding a few weeks ago on a Sunday, just for a meal. I was surprised the place wasn't more crowded, we got a table immediately. Our server was very helpful in choosing what to have, and he talked me into the eggs with beet hash & bacon. He didn't steer me wrong, it was absolutely delicious. My two companions were really impressed with the place, as they had never been there before. We had a great time: good food, good beer, great surroundings. I hope it doesn't take me another decade to get back there!

Yelp
Wow. From golfing, to spa days this place has it all. We really enjoyed our one night stay at this place and really hope to be back. We were saddened by the fact the soaking pool was closed and we hope to eventually go and utilize it. We enjoyed our time shooting pool and playing darts. Bar hopping was fun as well as we got to try drinks from different places. The service was mostly friendly. There was a bad apple, but with a place this large it is to be expected. The overall atmosphere was amazing as we were slays intrigued by the art and history of the place. This is a must go to.

Yelp
As a Troutdalean (right?), I frequent Edgefield. It's normal to see us at the majority of concerts here during the summer, or enjoying a nice dinner at Black Rabbit, or a burger at Power Station, a fire pit by the little red shed, or a massage at Ruby's. Black Rabbit gets 4.5 stars. Amphitheater gets 3 stars. As a venue, I'm consistently disappointed more and more. Please invest in at least ONE screen to see performers. Yes, there are plenty of terrible seats. It's near impossible to see them. Have adults help with exiting vehicles! It's so damn terrible. It's terrible anywhere, but it's unbearable at Edgefield, and managed by 16-year-olds. The process of exiting a venue should not take longer than both/all band's sets. Unacceptable. Also, I don't think it's a requirement to have everyone turn left on Halsey to exit. It's frustrating to live in Troutdale, and not be able to turn right to go home, but to deal with the traffic and be stuck with everyone else heading to the freeway on 238th as a result. Balls.

Yelp
We were treated like royalty with our ADA access to the Lake Street Dive concert on Friday 8/02. The staff were outstanding, friendly, courteous and so helpful. Shuttle service to the gate, water bottle refill. Just can't say enough about them. Concert was great too!

Yelp
My second visit and want to come back every year. I find much peace and joy in the gardens and wandering the halls and of course, Jerry's bar!

Yelp
Had a lovely weekend at Edgefield. My only complaint is the food service. The first night we waited 1 1/2 hours for our food and the second night almost an hour. I don't want to be that kind of person, but honestly, when I am spending what I spent per night, I'd think that McMenamins would have some sort of system for people who are staying at the hotel vs. people just visiting. I am not a cheapskate and don't normally require/demand special accommodations, but this was ridiculous. And to pay over $120 for dinner (with the burger as much as the Bolognese) and having to wait an hour and the food coming out not piping hot, was more than I can take. The sad part for us is we love McMenamins, just don't think we will be going back to Edgefield as we have never had this problem at the other 4 hotels where we have stayed.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting this outdoor music venue (there is also a restaurant and hotel, but I didn't visit). A group of 5 of us decided to meet up at a Phoebe Bridgers' concert. I arrived early, hearing that driving and parking can be a nightmare. Pulling in to park wasn't too bad. However, there was a long winding line to enter the arena. The long line forced us at times to stand in the sun for longer periods of time. I had a water in hand which I was thankful for. There were water stations, but the jugs were either empty or hadn't been put in the water dispensers. Security is tight and there is a long list of rules. For example, chairs have specific heigh requirements (I checked my chair's height at home). However, they still had me take my chair out and measure it. So, that explains the long lines. A couple friends in my group almost were not allowed to enter with their towels to sit on because they were 2 inches too long. Yes, they measured. You see a large pile of blankets, towels and chairs that were rejected at security entrance. Once inside, the lines for food and alcohol moved swiftly. Found a great spot to chill and enjoy the music. Overall, cool venue and would return, but definitely recommend reviewing those rules and measuring your items.

Yelp
Fred and I fell in love with this mcminnamins location there was so much to do. So much to look at! The brewery was beautiful and the fruit trees had us googling each one! The beer and cider were so so tasty! Omg don't even get me started on the mushroom and Swiss double burger that Fred got from the 'Power House' omg the food was amazing! Next time we go we plan on spending the whole weekend to play golf and explore the rest of this 25 acre piece of heaven!!

Yelp
What a great stay! The staff is so kind and friendly checking into the hotel. The rooms are so quaint. We got a room that didn't have a personal bathroom, but the shared bathrooms are really close by and you can still get a lot of privacy. There is free parking, multiple restaurants, and bars onsite. Our favorite drink is the tea bar near the spa and getting the ginger zap - SO GOOD!! We grabbed dinner and were able to take our unfinished drinks around the property. A lot of the restaurants have the same food, so we went where there was seating available. Love coming here - will definitely come back.

Yelp
I love edgefield and everything they offer! I do have one complaint about the pot belly dwarf bartender at luckys bar. We walked in downstairs about 40 minutes before close and we were greeted with sarcastic remarks and bickering between co workers. I went to order my drink and the dwarf scoffed and made me look like a fool when I didn't realize the drink I ordered was from another bar. I apologized and he continued to berate my friends with sarcastic comments about ordering drinks. 0 stars for the dwarf but 5 stars for all other aspects of the establishment!

Yelp
McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale is incredible! 76-Acres with various bars & restaurants (with both indoor & outdoor seating options), movie theater, a concert venue, hotel, spa, golf course, gardens, cool gift shop, and I'm sure I'm leaving something out. I mean, they have printed maps for visitors, if that gives you a clue of how expansive this place is. I highly recommend reading about the history of this property on their website. And I love how they incorporate that history into each individual space here (even the small room that was the ice house for the property is a cozy little Grateful Dead themed bar that seats just 10 people). Even if you just stop in for a drink and wander around, it's worth checking out. Some of the bar areas outside have plastic cups, so you can enjoy your beverage while wandering the grounds. When we recently visited there was a wedding reception going on outside, and it looked fabulous. Check out their website for details on each of their various bars, restaurants, etc., on the property.

Yelp
The food was good, the cocktails were okay, the service was acceptable. The booth we sat at had a weirdly cold draft/breeze.

Yelp
This review is restricted to the concert experience. We won't go back. The traffic access into the concert was terrible (45 minutes just to enter the lot). But, that was a pleasure compared to the 2+ hour wait to exit the parking lots after the show. Totally disorganized and inept traffic management. One of many downsides of this is that half the crowd leaves well before the concert finishes (a real downer). Otherwise, while the theater bowl is a beautiful setting, there are very few decent viewing points (the hill slope is so gradual that everyone between you and the stage is in your view), the food choices too narrow to their so-so pub food with rules meaning you can't bring anything healthier in), the sound is mediocre, and the curfew is very early. And, considering the long hilly walk to enter and exit, and total lack of seating, god help any patron with mobility concerns. There are so many other terrific music venues on the west coast, this is one to skip.

Yelp
It is the year of our Lord 2024, the first residential AC unit was installed in 1914. 110 years later and y'all can't be bothered to put AC in the hotel? Not even a ceiling fan in the room?? Jesus H Christ, for the price you pay here the amenities at the hotel side are bare minimum. I guess if you like old buildings, and sharing bathrooms with strangers, and over paying for food and drinks, and paper thin walls then this is for you. I understand the appeal of a "Rustic" or "Classic" aesthetic, but for the love of god modernize your building so when people come here in the summer they don't sweat through the grandma linens you put on the bed while they sleep at night.

Yelp
I've been holding off on writing this review for a loooong time... Two months to be exact (whoooops). There's so much that goes into a weekend stay at Mcmenamins Edgefield, and my review probably still won't do it justice! My boyfriend and I went for a weekend back in June and originally the forecast said mid seventies and sunny, which would've been great, but we had a weekend full of rain instead. Still didn't stop us from having a good time! I will say the property is large, but on the online map it looks a LOT farther apart than it really is. You'll definitely do some walking, but don't feel too overwhelmed! We were also crazy surprised at how huge the rooms are. They're massive! If you don't get lucky and you're not able to get a room with a bathroom in it, you will have to deal with the communal style bathrooms. I will say that for women, it's really not bad. There's a large lobby and then three or four full bathrooms, with locks, where you're able to shower and whatever else so you don't feel like you're in college - as for the men's, my boyfriend said that it's very college-dorm feel and there was only one shower for them. Another bonus: being able to walk around with drinks wherever you go! No need to worry about tossing a drink if you're going to a new spot, you're able to bring it with you. Think of it as a mini Vegas (but much more classy). Since this McMenamins has so many different stops along the way, I'll go ahead and note the ones we stopped at: Jerry's - The Grateful Dead spot at this location (every location has a bar dedicated to them). The vibe is really cool, and also kind of creepy. Very dark. Good drinks and nice staff! That said, we ordered some nachos and they were quite possibly the worst nachos I've ever had... We still ate them because we knew we had some drinking ahead, but definitely do not buy them. Winery - One of our favorite spots! Seating is right by the production space, and there's also live music here from time to time. The flights are incredibly generous pours, and I really enjoyed their wines. There wasn't one that I didn't like! Red Shed - Quite possibly our favorite spot the entire weekend, we made a point to go several times. It's literally a little shed, not quite run down but on it's way... It has one of the smallest bars I've ever seen, but they have a solid selection! There's a fireplace, and about seating for 8-10 people, if you get really cozy. It was a cool spot to sit by the window and enjoy the gloomy weather. Lucky Staehly's Pool Hall - A cool spot if you're into the sports bar feel! They had steel tip boards and obviously pool tables. The pizza here was decent, and one of the only spots we could find an IPA which was a bonus. Black Rabbit Restaurant - We came for breakfast one day and they had a ton of new hires who were training. We were brought the wrong drink at first, then brought a mimosa sans champagne (sooooo just OJ) and then they brought a mimosa back, but we had ordered Bloody Mary's. The staff was super kind about the mix up and just brought us our regularly ordered drink and also let us keep the mimosas on the house. Score! The breakfast food was good, but didn't blow me away. Loading Dock - Just a walk up bar if you're looking to snag drinks while you walk the grounds. Nice service! Distillery bar - Another super cute spot! They have outdoor seating near fire pits where you can watch the golfers at the golf course. They had whiskey flights, beers, and other liquors available. Movie theater - Super cute and incredibly cheap! Highly recommend it if you have the time. Plus, you can stop at the bar below and bring your drinks up. Soaking Pool - Another highlight. It's open til about 11 and it's the PERFECT temperature and was surprisingly never too busy! Anddd, you guessed it, there's a bar right next to it so you can enjoy some drinks while you're in the pool. PHEW. It's a lot to take in. This would definitely be a hard spot to come to and just spend a few hours because there is SO much to see. Highly recommend booking more than a day here. Also, be sure to invest into the Passport if you're a McMenamins fan! You get stamps at every bar/restaurant at each McMenamins location, and you get prizes for getting the stamps. Once you collect stamps from all the locations, you get invited to members-only parties, obtain free stays, and lots of other perks. It's really cool! It's $30 per person for a passport, but if you're into the properties and exploring more than just one, it's worth it. I didn't know much about the McMenamins properties before I started dating my boyfriend, but now that I know about it, I'm all about it! I'm so excited to explore more of the properties and snag more stamps. ;)

Yelp
I do not think we will be eating meals anymore my hamburger was $25 bucks and the fries were tiny it was too expensive and not a very good quality for the dollar.

Yelp
Ambiance was wonderful, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Laidback atmosphere, no rush easy going. Food was great.

Yelp
The hostel was not heated which was not noted on the website or any portal heaters provided even though it dropped to 39 degrees. They offered extra flimsy blankets. Getting a sandwich from the Pub took over an hour.

Yelp
Talk about really cool place to hang out all day and always find something new. My cousins last minute decided needed to check out McMenamins Edgefield since it was on the way to Mt Hood. I never heard of McMenamins Edgefield or realize few more of them in the Pacific Northwest. The whole concept is make these old buildings (most of them nursing homes or insane asylum at one time) renovate them sort of into modern hotel. The best part is they keep essence of the building and history of it feel walking around the property. McMenamins Edgefield crazy think built in 1911. I love seeing all the old building, landscape from garden area to in general is awesome, so many bars on the property can chill and everyone has it own theme or different vibe. Not just bars they have winery and brewery. The winery setup like normal wine tasting menu or taste anyone. The brewery pretty cool. They even have movie theater (showing newest Thor movie), outdoor concert venue, and pitch/putt think nine hole course. Sure missing lot that never had chance soak it all in. The one bar we stopped get drunk was the Jerry Ice House. If Grateful Dead fan of all bars that one make sure stop get drink. The inside super place but places chill. The memorabilia from concert billboards. The drink menu. I loved it! The best parts about the place they encourage u get drunk and mingle around the grounds. We did got drink at Jerry Ice House exploring the area. Also they have passport program pay $30. It looks just like passport every different bar hit get stamp. If full it up not just this property other ones get something. Nothing major but different and cool. If looking something different to do in Oregon should check McMenamins Edgefield.

Yelp
Hotel was an experience- be sure to double check if your room has a private bathroom. But we were able to bring our cat, and overall great time exploring the property.

Yelp
WOW such a disappointment the last 3 times we've been there!!! the food absolutely sucks and the service is slow don't know why because they seem to have enough front of the house staff? The menu's suck at every restaurant they have and the grounds are in great need of upkeep!!! the little red shed i s hard to find because of over growth and all they have for seating is hard picnic benches! took more than an hour to get a very lame, cold pizza. The music was great but couldn't stay long enough because of uncomfortable seating. Mcmeniman's wake up this venue won't last unless you pay attention. stayed in a musty smelling room and had to share a bathroom. not worth money for eating and lodging!!! bad bad bad WAKE UP!!! Wake Up!!!

Yelp
The food and staff at Edgefield are fantastic. Every one who works there is very friendly. The grounds are beautiful and worth a walk in any season. The nifty paintings on the walls and doors are fun to look at and there's lots of room for gatherings. The buildings are dimly lit, including the rooms. Most of the rooms have a shared communal bathroom. Which isn't that bad but they didnt seem to be cleaned enough as the garbage in each room would fill up . Beds are pretty hard. So I like the Edgefield but wish they'd invest a little more.

Yelp
This review is for the hotel and hostel at Edgefield - looks like there are listings for the restaurants and maybe bars as well, so that'll be a project for another day. I have stayed multiple times at the Edgefield and have generally enjoyed my stays. There was one notable night when we were in a room with a window onto a porch where people were partying and loud until the wee hours, but McM made that up to us. My favorite part of staying at Edgefield is how there is a lot to do right onsite so that you can just relax into the stay. The soaking pool is my favorite. I've never had a room with a television and now that I'm used to that, I actually appreciate it. I sometimes get sucked into too much Food Network at other hotels and it's nice to read, ponder and relax. I've stayed in the Women's Hostel a couple times and love that, especially for a girls weekend. They do provide towels and toiletries, large locking lockers and a bunk with a curtain. You can get a robe at the front desk if you want one. Seems like a bunch of others have figured out to block the end(s) of the bunk with a towel or robe because the person in the bunk next to me lit up my entire bunk through the end with her tablet. Eventually, I pulled my robe across and was able to achieve some darkness. Next time, I'll remember to pack my sleep mask. Some friends rented rooms in the Administrators House and that was really awesome. The house has a kitchen, dining area and livingroom so we were able to hang out in our own space. Grand Lodge has more of those kinds of spaces throughout the hotel and I think Edgefield could use some of those. I ended up hanging on the porch a lot. Anyway, great place to stay.

Yelp
We have been here many times. Food is great! We just love the rest and relaxation here. Pool is very relaxing.

Yelp
Used to be a really fun relaxing place to watch a show. But militant security requirements and personnel have made it not worth attending shows from even my favorite bands. At least bring back lawns chairs.

Yelp
THIS PLACE HAS IT ALL: brewery, distillery, winery, spa, saline pool, hotel lodging, beautiful grounds, live music, a MOVIE THEATER, walking gardens, lots of food options: pub style, swanky, laid back, cafe, etc... we tried a little bit here and there and loved the underground pool hall. This place is an entire vibe within itself. I will be back again for sure. Next time: to stay overnight!!

Yelp
This is such a bummer to write, because I've been going to McMenamins around Portland for like 20 years, but the last three experiences I've had have been so bad, I feel compelled to say something at this point. Today I went to Edgefield's Power Station for a gluten-free burger. I have celiac and there's like NO WHERE to get a decent gluten-free burger in Portland. I go in around 2 p.m. and the wait is a half-hour. I decide to wait because again, there are so few options for me to eat. I wait and wait and wait for a seat....and finally gave up and sat at the bar. At the bar, my seat was kicked probably 50 times while people walked by, but hey, it's a bar. Then I wait and wait and wait for food. And it finally comes and it is SO BAD. I like to always give grace to food industry folks because it's one heck of a hard job and the place was packed. But this bun was worse than the normal meh gluten-free buns I have to endure. It fell apart in an instant and the meat itself was super dry. I normally don't send food back but I did this time. They took my two glasses of wine of my bill and brought a burger wrapped in lettuce. This burger was also super dry. I ate it because I was starving and desperate and left. The wait staff admitted it was not their normal gluten-free bun because they'd run out. They also had no gluten free beer, and I distinctly remember being able to get them there before. Having celiac is bad enough, but having the food be awful and be charged extra for your disease, while waiting and waiting, is the worst. This is the third time my experience has been bad. Last one was at another MC location in Tigard, John Barleycorn's. I was there on a Sunday at like 2 and it was dead there, and the service was unreal. We had to get up to get our check, to get utensils, to get water, you name it. No one checked on us. We had to get up and ask for everything. That was in January of this year. And the third time was also at Edgefield, where I went for a Robert Plant concert last summer. I sat trying to get into the parking lot for two hours (left the house four hours early) and never got into the lot. I finally gave up. It was absoltely impossible to get into the venue because it was totally oversold. I literally wasted $300 on tickets. I called and no one called me back. This franchise has gone terribly downhill and it's a bummer because I've always loved it! But the food, service and concert venue experience are all just so disappointing now. Guess I'll have to find somewhere else for a gluten-free burger. Attached is today's bun...there's no burger because they removed it from the plate to replace it, but that's what it looked like after I took one bite--a million pieces. I wish someone would actually care about the dining experience of those with celiac.
