I came here for a family gathering. I always come to Tacoma and say that this building is a hotel, bar, or restaurant. The interior of the building is very atmospheric, and you can take the elevator to the bar on the other floor. We went to the Spanish bar on the second floor. The server lady was pleasant and friendly. Our table was by the entrance and it got cold every time people came and went. We had a total of seven adults, but everyone except me ordered cocktails and alcohol. I took a sip of my husband's cocktail, and it was very delicious. I think the drink was pink***. I ordered a Zeus Lamb Burger and shared it with my hubby. The taste was okay. I want to come here again and look at other floors.

The Old Hangout has become one of my favourite places for a great cocktail. The vibe is incredibly cool, and there is so much to look at! The drinks are delicious (the Mai Tai is my go-to), and our waiter, Sean (or Shawn) is the very best. He is so kind, attentive, and an all-around lovely being. My boyfriend and I were so excited that we had him as our server once again during our visit last week. If you ever visit Tacoma, you HAVE to make sure to check this place out!

The atmosphere of this tiki bar is unmatched. Drinks are super tasty and strong. Food is always amazing. We are from Portland and whenever we are in the Tacoma area we make it a priority to stop here. 10/10

All the pubs are different and unique. The food is fantastic and the decor is one of a kind. I had the vinters roasted turkey sandwich with their terminato Stout, and my wife had the elk burger with white rabbit chardonnay and chased it all down with a berries and blossom tort for dessert. We both had half a sandwich for lunch the next day. So good!

Google
Such a cool vibe. My husband and I are tiki bar connoisseurs and this took the cake as one of the more spacious and open spots. While the food and drink was not superb, the time spent here with loved ones by the fire as the occasional sound effect came over the speakers brought me an immense amount of joy. Great hidden gem in the heart of Tacoma.

Been here twice, it’s a very impressive and fun building, great place to take visitors. The servers in The Old Hangout (level 1 tiki bar) are consistently great, very helpful and pleasant, good to see people that do their job with enthusiasm. Decor / setting in the tiki bar is fun, only suggestion would be to use ceramic tiki mugs vs. clear glass. Mongoose Mai Tai did not quite cut it, just okay, inferior to say Tommy Bahama’s version, no dark rum floater and to me, weird to use a cherry garnish albeit a quality one. Hurricane was very good, but different from e.g. O’Brien’s traditional. Ventures nachos were pretty unique and excellent, lots of nice pork on crispy won tons with nice cheese sauce. Yummy. The steak bites have been yummy, tender on both visits. To me their chicken wings are okay but too much dripping sauce for me. Will come again for sure, but skip the Mai Tai and try something else.

Google
i love this place. so many bars to check out, even a hidden one too. i think the old hangout is my favorite though, due to the drinks and cute decor. prices are definitely way up there, (about $20-$25 a drink) but the drinks were strong enough to where i was questioning if i had ordered a double. 😅 the staff are all unbelievably friendly and it definitely made my experience 9/10. my only complaint is the prices. especially because there aren’t any prices listed on the menu. i’m not sure about their food though, we didn’t order any. everything else, great! you need to go check this bar out!! order the mermaid spit, you won’t be disappointed. :)

Such a unique place! The bartenders were friendly and quick and made great drinks. The atmosphere is phenomenal. It is amazing how they breathed new life into this incredible abandoned historical building and transformed it i to something truly magical.

Yelp
Fun tiki bar at McMeniman's! Down on the bottom floor, I think this is probably the biggest bar and definitely the most fun vibe and decorations. It was definitely busy but not overly crazy, and I had a nice time people watching and having some delicious drinks as I was here on a solo weekend trip! I loved the drink I got so if you're into spicy drinks definitely go for the Not only does it taste great, but it is served in a fun way that is fun to drink out of. Nice service here and a good time all around!

Yelp
I love a great Tiki themed bar and The Old Hang Out is wonderful inside. The Old Hangout name doesn't describe what you might expect to see inside. When you enter, you are transported to a warm tropic mysterious island with a lot to see. Basically a Tiki Bar! As usual, McMenamin's decorators did a fantastic job with the decorations from the water feature in back and the round table surrounding a fireplace to the bamboo bar and thatched roofs and mini seating hideouts throughout the place. Every so often a foghorn sounds, someone rings a bell and lights flash imitating lightning. There is so much to see here that you need a few visits to take it all in (a great reason to return!). We came for a bite and drinks before attending a Halloween themed event at the Spanish Ballroom upstairs. Our server was super nice and helpful and checked up on us frequently. Along with Tiki-themed drinks (I had the Voodoo Brew) our table had the baked brussel sprouts, chicken strips, salad and Bahn Mi. Each of us like our food and drinks as the flavors were great. This place is lively and super cool to visit. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
It's great and food was great! Great server! Will come back for sure! The environment was great and stunning view.

Maxwell G.

Yelp
This tiki bar did not disappoint! Came with a large group, they were able to accommodate and even let us split checks across more than 25 people! The drinks were fantastic - I would recommend the rum old fashioned over their more fruity drinks as I think it's a better value, but both tasted great! The food was quality and affordable! I got the poke bowl, definitely give it a try! Quality salmon, rice, and veggies. I loved the lightning/thunder going off periodically - our group would stop and listen as we are huge weather nerds.

Yelp
We love the Old Hangout and we always visit when we go to McMenamins Elks. It has great Aloha inspired ambiance, food and cocktails. You can even buy some of the tiki mugs for sale. On this occasion it was Tiki Tuesday and all tiki drinks were two dollars off and they had a $22 pu pu platter. It had flavorful shedded pork, coconut shrimp, coleslaw (was pretty bland), yummy fried spring rolls, and macaroni salad. We had a couple tiki drinks to go with the platter. It is a very fine place. There is a fountain and a fire table you can sit at. Service can be pretty slow because of the extensive cocktails, but it is worth the wait. It's also nice that this is one of the bars that stays late at the Elks.

Yelp
I will say that the ambiance of this place is very cool, buried in the bottom of the Mcmenamins building we decided to head here after a concert in the same building. Felt like you were in an actual tiki bar with the occasional thunder storm. Our server was great but also not great. He came by occasionally, but sometimes felt like it had been quite awhile. When it mattered he did take care of us. We ordered the steak bites and the pork belly bahn mi. The steak bites were cooked ok, but were noted to be marinated in chimchurri. They tasted like steak with no flavor. The Bahm Mi that was supposed to be pork belly was just moderately thick bacon, and some sort of slaw on a hot dog bun. The sauce that came in it was less than edible. I tried to scrape it off the bacon to at least save part of it but it was just covered. The server was kind enough to take it off the bill. The drinks left plenty to be desired as well. We decided to cut our losses and tab out. Upon paying and being ready to head out the door a girl and her boyfriend passed by our table heading to the bathroom and she proceeded to throw up on the floor in front of us. This place has potential, but just needs lots of help especially in the food department. I commend our server for trying to compensate for the establishments short comings, but there was just too much.

Tiffany Z.

Yelp
Loved this spot! Really takes you into another world with the ambiance & all the tiki decor. They have a cute shop in the back that's great for gifts & buying tiki mugs. Drinks are strong & tasty! Fun place to bring visitors. Our waiter was friendly & speedy service!

Christy H.

Yelp
Drinks are in a fun, decorated glasses. Slightly stiff. Came with some great friends, we all had a blast! Our server was awesome and attentive. What a great night!! We will return!!

Smaly K.

Yelp
Fun place to hang out with your friends. We came to grab a drink for a friend's birthday while exploring the place. The drinks were fun. I wanted to try some food, but we had plans on getting dinner somewhere else already. Looking forward to coming back for drinks and to try some food.

Angi C.

Yelp
I've been to the Spanish Ballroom for a few concerts but never went down to "The Old Hang Out" until now. This place is really cool!! Let me just say, perfect mood lighting for a date!! Tropical, dark, dim lights, water features, just overall a cool place! My husband and I had drinks and an appetizer. I had a piña colada (fantastic) and a twist (piña colada and raspberry daiquiri. Wasn't a huge fan of the twist, too icy for my taste. The best part was the nachos. Not your typical nachos, won-ton chips with pulled pork and siriacha cheese. Service was attentive once she came over, took a bit to be served, but the place was packed!

Naomi J.

Yelp
Pretty typical bar food (three stars) given the price/quality ratio. It's not bad - it is very average - but it is extremely expensive given the average quality. That being said, I like how they try to keep the food on the tropical/tiki theme! The drinks are good (four stars) and the glasses are cute. There are no prices on the tropical drink menu, so imagined they would be $15-$20 each, so I was not shocked by the bill. As for the ambience (five stars) this is the most tropical/tiki themed bar I have found in the Seattle area. I had a really good time and would recommend this bar!

Cristina C.

Yelp
This little Lagoon pub is so fun. The atmosphere is great, and the service was quick for a busy night. I got a specialty drink and wasn't a fan, but the nachos were delicious.

Rick I.

Yelp
Discover the hidden gem of The Old Hangout of Elk Temple, located on the bottom floor of the historic building. This Tiki Bar offers a one-of-a-kind experience for adults only, transporting you to the tropical shores of Hawaii. The main level features a classic pub restaurant, while the lower levels boast an array of themed bars that are sure to impress. Although the food and drinks may be a bit pricey, the extraordinary ambiance and experience make it an ideal spot to spend an evening with friends and create unforgettable memories. The Old Hangout is located in the bottom floor of the McMenamins Elk Temple Lodge in Tacoma Washington

Jewelia C.

Yelp
This was the first stop of our bachelorette bar crawl and it was a nice starter! Always love a tiki bar! This one was pretty calm and more of a seated vibe (that's why it was a good one to start but would have probably brought the mood down if we came later in the night). The drinks were amazing, I got a lava flow that was so cute and delicious! Service was suuuuuuper slow and felt like we were stuck waiting to pay for forever but definitely still a cute bar and building overall!

Denise S.

Yelp
The old hangout is a really fun tiki themed bar in the bottom of Mcmenamins. They have a waterfall in the corner, and a fire pit to sit around. Lots of private booths and bar seating. This place has always been an enjoyable place to hang out, and while the drinks and food aren't a crazy 5+ star, the whole menu is well above average and a great place to catch a buzz and grab a snack. I love hanging here! The staff is really nice too!

Gaby S.

Yelp
The drinks here were really good, and so was the food. However, I will say that I think that it was slightly overpriced. The steak bites were amazing, but I don't know if I would say that it was worth the price. The theming in there is definitely great, everything is on par with the tiki theme. There is even a mini waterfall inside. The server was nice and even explained to us the other bar concepts that were located on the other floors. A really fun and unique place to go I just don't know if it's worth the price.

Lauren P.

Yelp
McMenamin's Elk's Temple is full of really cool spots, and The Old Hang Out is one of my favorites! It's a dark, tiki themed bar on the bottom floor of the property. Staff is always really cool. Love the variety of seating here. You can sit at the bar under the tiki hut, at booths, or a big fire table near the exit of the bar. Wherever you sit, there really isn't a bad seat in the house to enjoy the detail put into this bar. For food I haven't had a ton here, but we've tried the veggie spring rolls and the cajun tots. The cajun tots are a staple at McMenamin's so you can never really go wrong with those. The veggie spring rolls were also tasty. The cocktails are all tiki themed, of course, and I've tried the Mongoose Mai Tai and the Mermaid Spit. Both are delicious (and strong) and I always end up going with one of those two any time I come here. My boyfriend always gets the El Diablo which is spicy cocktail, which I'm really not a fan of... But hey, he enjoys it! If you haven't been to the Old Hang Out, it's definitely worth a stop in. Watch out though, you'll want to explore the rest of the bars!

Melissa U.

Yelp
We love this place! The atmosphere is that of a Tiki Bar! I've been back many times and always love their drinks here. They pack a punch and are delicious! If you sit at the bar you get faster service than a table. Their food is pretty good too. My faves are their sweet potato fries and coconut shrimp. I came once when there was an event going on in the Spanish Ballroom on a weekend and it was overcrowded. If you really want to enjoy the place, come during a weeknight.

Annika C.

Yelp
The ambiance is great, just look at the pictures to see what I mean. I've always had an amazing experience with the staff; you can tell they enjoy their jobs and are having fun. Some of the food on the menu isn't the greatest (and you are paying hotel prices) but if you ask your server, I've always gotten honest answers on what to order and what to avoid. Overall, this is a must-visit spot if you're in the area

Lillie A.

Yelp
I come here fairly often. One of my fav little bars. The seats could be wider at the bar seating but who cares, they have inclusive seating. Every now and then a thunder and lighting simulation happens and it's so cute. Dim lighting and sweet servers.

Janie D.

Yelp
Take the elevator down to the 1st floor of McMenamins Elk's Temple, and you will find The Old Hangout. The space feels like a tiki bar that could be anywhere in the world. There is a water feature, a vintage fire pit, bamboo booths, Chinese inspired design details, and more. The menu includes a curated selection of tiki classics and inventive house specialties, plus a full menu of pan Asian cuisine. At 5pm on a Thursday, we were the only people there. The staff were friendly and attentive, and our food and drinks came out quickly. They played good music, and the vibe was fun and exotic while still being chill enough to have a conversation. I got the Pearl Diver, which was delicious. Their rendition includes Plantation Original Dark rum, gardenia mix, and freshly squeezed lime and orange juices. My husband got a Daiquiri, which was also tasty and not overly sweet. The food seems expensive, but the portions are massive; large enough to share. The Kung Pao Cauliflower tasted straight out of a hole in the wall Americanized Chinese joint (in a good way). The Cajun Tots and Coconut Shrimp were just okay. All of the dishes were extremely salty, but with the sweet cocktails, it kinda worked.

Yelp
Saigon Kick Crispy Chicken Hoagie 3.5/5 overall. Crispness 4/5. Batter 4/5. Sauce 4/5. Flavor 3/5. Bread 4/5. Size and value 2/5. Good chicken and sandwich but the piece of chicken was about half the size of the hoagie. It should be at least the same size, so 2 pieces or double up the chicken size would be what I would like to see. Still a good sammy and I love the Tiki vibe here.

Daniel S.

Yelp
Dumb drinks, overpriced tater tots, and LONG wait times.... What's not to love?! My personal favorite feature is the foot pool you can soak your feet in after all the walking it takes to get there!

Liesl S.

Yelp
THIS IS LEGIT. We have become kinda Tiki aficionados. It's frivolous and fun, but also very specific. This place nailed it. You go through a dark doorway to come into your tropical retreat. There is a full-blown waterfall in the corner. It's dim, but not dark, which means you can actually read the menu, which you'll want to do. A proper Tiki place is supposed to have: a cool cocktail menu with drawings: Check hodge-podge decor of unclear South Pacific origins: Check pupu - basically appetizers of unclear Asian-inspired nature: Check some thatched roof situation: Check To the best of my knowledge, Mermaid Spit is not a Tiki original. But it could be. Just order it. The food is also legit, which was a bit of a surprise from McMenamins - we expected a burger with pineapple on it, but they went much further. The Gaucho Steak Bites (asada-marinated sirloin steak, chimichurri, black garlic aioli) were delightful. The Tokyo Tots (crispy pork belly, scallions, furikake, teriyaki, wasabi ginger aioli) were a bit more their typical fare with a Tiki flair but were also good. The Kung Pao Cauliflower (Kung Pao chili sauce, peanuts, scallions) was also perfectly cooked and seasoned, leaving us wanting a second cocktail, but sadly we had to get back so one and done...

Ryley S.

Yelp
The drinks aren't proper tiki cocktails, they're all too far off to say they're a spin on them. The service was also meh. I came when it was dead and the bartender didn't really say a word. If you're looking for better tiki decor go up the street to devils reef because the ambiance here is not great. Not the worst restaurant I've been to be not a great tiki bar by any stretch of imagination.

Talia W.

Yelp
Great drinks, good food. Like a grown up rainforest cafe vibe. Very cute. Gets really busy on the weekends so it's best to get your name on the list early and explore the other bars in the building. The wait is worth it for the food.

Laura H.

Yelp
This is such a fun and funky bar! I love the decor, it's dimly lit, the music is chill, and the servers are friendly and prompt. Great place to stop for a drink and/or a snack!

Delmis Y.

Yelp
First time in this place, and it was a neat little spot. The 2 people who sat down after us got their order before we did, even though we ordered long before they did. I got the Bui Bui Bahn Mì sandwich, and it was good. The only real issue I had was that there were 2 parts of the meat that were dry, tough, and chewy.

Akanksha G.

Yelp
Friendly staff, delicious drinks, and such a fun vibe! I came by with my friend for a girls night, and we got a spot pretty quickly as we decided to sit at the bar. Unlike most places, Old Hang Out had nonalcoholic drink options that were true mocktails - cocktails with just the alcohol missing, instead of overly sweet mixes. I decided to get the Coco-Not, which was their rendition of a nonalcoholic pina colada. From the first sip, I was hooked - cold, refreshing, and just the right amount of sweet. After walking around in the summer heat in heels, it was the perfect drink to unwind to. Plus, it came in an adorable mug with a pineapple, just like a real cocktail! I absolutely loved the Tiki theme as well. It was a great way to feel transported to Hawaii without actually having to leave the city! Plus, it had a good mix of casual and dressy folks - perfect for any type of night. I had a great time and will absolutely be back!!

Taylar F.

Yelp
Went to the old hangout tonight to celebrate my cousins 21st & there were a lot of us. My family is big & we all move around quite a bit. After a little discussion i told the server we could take 1 check & i would have everyone venmo their portion. I went to another bar and while i was gone, she split all the checks & got it right! Natalie (server) was also so polite & gave greatness service. Niko & Devin were also wonderful, doing great teamwork with Natalie & making sure we had a great experience! (Drinks were great, food was... ok but still leaving 5 star review because this team deserved their accolades and it's not like they pick they menu ‍)

Agnes S.

Yelp
Another cool hideaway in Tacoma that's tiki-ish. The cocktails certainly tiki, but the decor is a mix like it's still developing. It was still a pretty nice spot to hangout for a nightcap with the family. If I remember correctly, the Old Hang Out is located on the first floor of McMenamins. Walking in from the elevator area, we were told by waitress to just pick any available space to sit. Sweeeeet... It wasn't crowded at all, so we got to sit in a booth that fit our group of 5. The vibe I was getting was intimate with the dim lighting apart from the centered bar, and not playing outrageously loud music. Love it when I can hear our conversations, but the background's loud enough to drown surrounding groups' chatter. Solid tiki drinks for sure. Our faves were the Funky Monkey and Mermaid Spit, plus the spot had a solid Hurricane. I think the only disappoint was that they were out of their tiki mugs, which is more of a personal loss since we were just visiting. Can't argue with prices being on par with downtown areas' bars, $13 to $17 per drink.

Tiffany A.

Yelp
I moved away now but if it's one thing I miss about Tacoma, it's The Old Hangout. So many good times with friends there. All the staff have been super friendly and the food was great . Highly recommend

Yelp
The old Hang Out Ratings: 3.4/5 Food: 2.5/5 - I was visiting my friend and his girlfriend in Tacoma, and this was one of the places they really like and decided to take us here for dinner. This is my first time here at McMenamins, and apparently there's are a ton of restaurants and bars downstairs. Please see the description of the food and drinks I got at The Old Hangout. - Mai Tai [GET]: The drinks here are good, especially the Mai Tai. There's a strong taste of high proof rum with dry orange curacao, and freshly squeezed lime and orange. The drink was presented beautifully, wonderfully garnished with tasty tropical and acidity flavors and mint leaves. It was a superb drink and solid. - Saigon Kick Crispy Chicken Hoagie [SKIP]: This was a big disappointment. The Thai-spiced chicken was fried and dressed in sriracha mayo on a hoagie roll. The chicken and breading ratio was off, because I didn't have much chicken meat. I like the toppings such as the onion, pickled daikon-carrot slaw, cilantro, and onion on the sandwich, definitely added lots of flavors and textures to it. However, the roll itself was soft and soggy; they did not toast it at all. The fries was very soggy as well, felt like it was someone's leftover fries. There as no crunch whatsoever, so bad that I couldn't even finish it. You should skip this one for sure. Ambiance: 4.25/5 - I was a fan of the atmosphere, very similar to an atmosphere of a Tiki bar. It was located in a hotel called the McMenmains Elks Temple on the lowest level, and by far the best decorated bar here. It can be difficult looking for this place, literally like a maze, so can be hard to find if this is your first time. I love the crazy décor. There's a water fountain, tons of booths, and tropical awnings as decorations. Definitely a great place to hang out with friends. Price: 3.75/5 - The chicken sandwich was $17 and Mai Tai cocktail was $14 before tax. The cocktail was solid for the price listed. It was tasty and strong. The sandwich with the fries though... I'd would say not so much, although the portion was decent, but it was just a very average sandwich to me. Service: 3.25/5 - This place can get busy during dinner and loud. Our server was nice and friendly, but the service was not quite there. Maybe she was just too busy. When our food came out, we realized that the server never took one of my friend's order, causing him to wait for additional 15 to 20 minutes while we eat our food. Just sucks we cannot enjoy our food all at once. BLUF: Food menu is limited with only burgers and finger food options, and they were pretty average. However, the Old Hangout is a great place in Tacoma to get drinks and fun vibes. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a place to catch up with friends and some amazing cocktails.

Yelp
Fun interior including the water feature. Had a party of five and we were surprised at how good the food was. Our excellent server, Sean, really made it a great night out.

Hira W.

Yelp
Fun ambiance and great cocktails and decent food. Fun place to hang out, service was good.

Yelp
When we head to Mcmenamins, the tiki bar is our first stop! The drinks have always been really good, but the food is hot or miss. The sweet potato fries are great, and I've tried (and loved) nearly all the drinks on the menu! For the food, I have often found it to be pretty typical bar food but with a tropical twist. The service is also always great, and our waiter was so nice this past time. I will always come back here for the drinks and fun vibe!

Alison T.

Yelp
This was my first time at McMenamins, so I was a little lost when I first walked in the door. But, for those of you seeking a tiki bar, don't give up! Head down the stairs and you'll find exactly what you're looking for. Perfect tiki bar ambience with a good variety of tiki drinks beautifully presented with tasty tropical flavors. We tried the nachos, which were an interesting twist on traditional nachos. The passion fruit tart was amazing! The only reason I'm giving it 4 and not 5 stars is because it's a solid, classic tiki bar, but probably wouldn't be my overall top pick for cocktails/food. But it's perfect if you're looking for a tiki bar!

Tia J.

Yelp
My favorite bar in the whole Elks Temple! Located on the first floor this is by far the best decorated bar in the house. Check out the cobra and mongoose on the bar! Complete with waterfall, pond, and tons of artwork there's so much to check out. We visited this bar 3 times during the 2 days we stayed here. We tried several different drinks and some of the food. The Bloody Mary was superb! The Asian spices give it a little different twist. Our bartender also recommended a whiskey sour with egg whites. It was surprisingly very good as well! We decided to get the bucket of mystery beers too. For $12 you get 3 random beers. It can be fun to try new things! The wings were amazing! I highly recommend them!! We also had the sundae with grilled pineapple. Soooo good! We weren't impressed with the ice cream sandwiches. I'll pass on those next time. Our servers/bartenders were all great. Very friendly and great personalities. It gets busy in here in the evenings, especially on the weekends, so be patient. It's a tiki bar, take in the scene around you, and relax.

Karen R.

Yelp
We went here last Friday - arrived at 4:30 and left around 6 pm. Our server was awesome! Super friendly and very attentive. She was clocking out around 5:30 or so and asked if we wanted to cash out with her or transfer to the new server. We opted to cash out because I wanted to make sure she received our tip. We paid our bill and left the folder on the table. The new server came by to check on us but we were done. We left. Two people in our party went to the restroom. I was waiting just outside the door. Our new server came running over and said we didn't pay our bill. Even though I explained that we had, he continued to I insist we had not. He went running back to his POS station where he and his manger looked up our payment. The manager and the server kept glaring at me and talking. Clearly they found that we had paid our bill! No apology. This is why customers get annoyed. The staff made a mistake and rather than own up and offer an apology, they doubled down by glaring at me after they found the PAID bill. Do better. If you go...make sure you know your server acknowledges that you paid your bill!!

Katy R.

Yelp
Overall, we had a wonderful family brunch and lunch in here. All of the drinks were enjoyed, standard mai tai bar prices, and a decent food menu! The food fulfilled all of our families pallet desires, as we all enjoy eating different things. The Saigon sandwich was especially good and the brussel sprouts were inhaled. We will be back! We love McMenamins and all of it's bars.

Katie H.

Yelp
A really great tiki bar in Tacoma! Drinks range in pricing from $12-$18 and $45 if you want to take the cup home with you. The bartenders are knowledgeable, friendly, and fun spirited. The bar simulates storms every now and then and plays thunder sounds while strobe lights flash to simulate lightening. Made for a fun atmosphere. The whole Devore throws you into a new tiki vibe. The bar is warm and the drinks are cold. I forgot we were in Tacoma for a while. Definitely would be back!

Once you walk into the building In order to get to the bar you have to take the elevator down it's on your right hand. When you walk into the bar you can take a sit anywhere and waitress/waiter comes to take your order. Our waitress was very attentive and nice. We had a few appetizers wings, the Pan con queso (which was my favorite) ask for extra bread though and calamari. I had the West Indie Mule which was also good. Stopped by on a Monday evening it was not busy at all. I will definitely be going back to this bar. Oh and we didn't have trouble finding parking and there was no charge.

Yelp
Great place to hang out, chill, and eat some food/appetizers. This place serves bar food/appetizers, so don't expect to come here to eat a full meal. The drinks here aren't too bad either. It can get very busy, or you might be able to find an empty table or so - depends on the day. If there's an empty seat at the bar, it's self seating. In my experiences here, the bartenders have been super nice. You can order appetizers at the bar as well. As for table seating, you'd have to check in with the host. If there aren't any open tables, the host will take down a phone number and text you when you have a table ready, so we did just that. Once we received a text, we went back to the hostess, but she ended up giving our table to the group in front of us, and we would have to wait a little while longer. Once we eventually got seated, we had placed our order with our waitress, but she wasn't as nice as I remember the bartenders to be. She was rushing us when ordering, and just wasn't as patient. I like this bar for the atmosphere, especially with a larger group, but the customer service could be a little better.

Yelp
The food menu is kinda limited in my opinion but lots of speciality cocktails and drinks! It's about $11-13 for pina colada and similar blended cocktails. Excellent ambience within the Mcmenamins building, there is no other bar like this one! Finding parking on a weekend/evening can be tricky so allow extra time for that.

Yelp
I made stops at several McMenamins locations throughout the holiday season, and the Old Hang Out was definitely my favorite of the bunch. There are plenty of bars to choose from in the Elks Lodge, but if you're looking for ambiance, this is absolutely the spot to stop at. The Old Hang Out is a classic tiki bar with a vibe I would almost describe as being like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. Or maybe like eating at the Blue Bayou in the ride. The dark lighting, wooden bar, and waterfall (!!) inside make it feel like you're outdoors. Of course, you're actually inside, which makes it a little better because you don't have to deal with the rain! We stopped in for happy hour, which really has some excellent deals. $4 sliders, of which I tried 3 varieties. The Thai chicken slider was my favorite - spicy and crunchy without the peanut sauce being TOO peanutty. All were fairly solid, so I'd recommend getting all three for the whole experience. Flights are $7.50 during happy hour, which is an excellent deal for 6 tasters. You can choose from anything on tap, and the variety will be a bit different than other locations, so it's especially nice if you're trying to have a bit of everything made at a McMenamins location. The Tiki drinks looked awesome - about what you'd expect, with neat mugs and cups that fit the theme of the drink. We did not get one, but it would be a must if we were staying longer and perhaps at the hotel. Mocktails are also available, so everybody can have an Instagrammable moment with their drink! The service was great and our waitress was nice. I can see them getting pretty slammed in the space, so perhaps staffing a few more folks down there would have been a good idea, but I imagine New Years Eve is a bit of a service anomaly otherwise. If you're going to the Elks Lodge or hoping to visit a McMenamins, make sure the Old Hang Out is on your radar for a spot to sit down and enjoy!

Yelp
Great atmosphere at the bar and I've had several cocktails from their menu probably four all of which were what I was looking for

Yelp
Great service, it's a tiki bar out of the Pirates of the Caribbean. The drinks are fantastic! The food is excellent, great place to vibe out during the night.

Yelp
This place is super cool! I love the decor and atmosphere. There is a big waterfall fountain and a large chandelier made of shells. The lighting is dark but you get used to it pretty quick. They have some low volume thunder occasionally. The seating is booths, tables and the bar. It's pretty comfortable. The woman's bathroom was clean and had lots of toilet paper. There are two stalls. The lighting in the bathroom is much brighter than the restaurant. The servers were all very nice and friendly. The service on a Saturday afternoon was quick. The food was disappointing. There aren't many (if any) things that aren't spicy. I had to get my food without a bunch of stuff because I can't handle spiciness. The prices are pretty high for what you get. Over $11 for two small shrimp tacos that came with no side. Over $18 for a hamburger.

Yelp
I love a good tiki bar, and this place delivers. The cocktails range from classic to inventive, and all hit the mark. The tiki glassware, when used, is also great for selling the drinks. The food is also delicious, and the southeast asian/island style fits the mood and adds to the appeal. This is a great location, and I'm glad I got to try it while I lived in Tacoma.
