If I'd have to rate "McPs Taphouse Grill" solely for their beer selection, it would be a 4.5 out of 5 stars. But since I came for food and drinks, I need to be as fair as possible on this review. Located in the heart of South Lake Tahoe (on the California side) and directly on South Lake Tahoe Blvd., this place has been serving up comfort food and over 3 dozen beers on tap dating back to 2013. Parking here can be quite a challenge so I recommend going to one of the nearby casinos (which charge after the first hour). The business hours of operation are also very generous as they are open 11:30am-12am (Mon-Thu), 11:30am-1:00am (Fri-Sat), and 9:30am-12am (Sun).
I came here with my lady during the afternoon of Saturday 1/22/2025 around 3:45pm as we met up with other friends for an early dinner before a concert. As for the overall layout of this place, it had that cavernous cabin like feel to it that suits the menu that this place has to offer. They also offer a small stage for live music, TV's for viewing, and dedicated barstools if you wish to enjoy your brew at the beer pouring areas. My party of 7 sat at a large communal-style table with ample space to set our phones, iced waters, and utensils as we were all comfortable dining inside.
Since I was planning to go to a concert later that evening, I wanted to eat a very heavy meal to keep me full throughout the rest of the day. Therefore, I went with the "Aloha Pulled Pork" sandwich which was slow cooked pork in BBQ sauce and a pineapple in between a soft Pretzel bun. It also included a side of seasoned pub fries. I also opted for a half order of the "Fish & Chips" which was beer battered Alaskan cod and included a side of coleslaw, lemon wedges (for the fish), pub fries, and tartar sauce. To drink, I went with a low-calorie Michelob Ultra. Total time to get our food was roughly 10 minutes.
I will say that this place has your standard pub/comfort food. Nothing amazing but just good stick to your ribs food. The fish tasted fine, was well-battered and crispy while the sandwich was tasty while the sweet BBQ sauce in the pulled pork accompanied the soft bun. If I could compare it to somewhere else, it is quite similar to BJ's Brewhouse or Dave & Busters. Service was good as our waiter was quick and attentive. They also have a fairly extensive menu offering small bites, appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, and true Irish pub fare (bangers & mash, Shephard's pie, Mulligan stew, etc.). All in all, "McPs Taphouse Grill" is a decent place with okay prices and good pub-styled food. My rating, 3 stars.
