"It is an 11-minute drive from the highway to Mearkas. The short journey through the stunning Frisian countryside serves as a prelude to the sense of tranquillity that awaits you in this glass-walled restaurant flooded with light. The surrounding vegetable gardens, fields, and glamping tents form the backdrop to this ode to Friesland. Chef Kees and gardener Christiaan have joined forces to showcase the finest local produce. Everything is either homegrown or sourced from nearby suppliers. In his set menu, the chef skillfully marries the hearty flavours of Friesland with a touch of sophistication, in dishes characterised by vitality and freshness. Think North Sea sole, delicately marinated in lemon, enhanced with local bacon and expressive garnishes of sour cream, fennel, lemon, puffed quinoa and paprika sorbet. A digestif by the campfire makes for the perfect ending to a uniquely serene experience." - Michelin Inspector

Truly excellent on all fronts - Mearkas deserves the 5.0 rating it has. Excellent food showcasing local produce in a beautiful setting, thoughtful service and just a delightful evening all round. Nice that Chef Kees comes round to speak to you at the start of the meal to explain his vision for the place - you can see the effort that has gone into each dish that follows, from the amuses through to the main courses. We'll certainly be back!

Entourage great, service sublime, food tasty, presentation very good, portions a bit too small, specially the fish and meat, there was hardly anything to taste due to the size of the piece of fish and meat.

A wonderful experience. Here you can get the taste of many different ingredients used in interesting dishes. The food was superb and the service excellent. If you want to quietly enjoy the evening together then this is definitely worth a visit!

Beautiful setting, delicious food and wines. Service was attentive and friendly. Particularly loved the snacks with a glass of champagne on the terrace before coming inside for the meal. Definitely worth a visit!
