On the Grid : Meat

"Another independent establishment to expand to Tufnell Park from its flagship shop in Stoke Newington, this friendly butcher and delicatessen opened a couple of years ago. As well as providing raw meat, it's another great place to pick up some cured meats, cheeses, pies, scotch eggs and more for that picnic we keep talking about." - Chrissie Macdonald & Andrew Rae

Amazing shop with great selection. I love the honey roast ham and the prosciutto!! I always go here for a pho day for a qualify bone broth. However, the customer service can be improved. The Italian manager seems to be very rude towards other staffs. Seems very unprofessional to have someone yelling at other human beings with zero respect. Can do better :(

An excellent butcher and deli. Very good cuts of meat, and advice on cooking. Great selection of ham, meat, sausages etc. Lovely people, and you will want to go back. A very good Christmas service too.

The best butcher in NW1 9XR London. Fabulous cuts of meat, from beef to sausages, liver and ossobuco. Knowledgeable, clean, keen staff. There’s a reason why French and Italian expats shop there.

My go-to butcher! The staff are always lovely, and the meat is top quality. Their nut-free pesto is also delicious—highly recommend. You really can’t go wrong here!

Bought a ribeye steak, expensive which is ok but there was no flavour to it. Not sure where they get their meat but not worth the price, Oh and i am a chef so it wasn't the cooking it was the meat itself.

Have been a regular customer since the shop opened. The meat is consistently good but what sets the shop apart is the service. The shop manager Jessica has been a constant and under her watch the staff may have changed but the standard of customer service has never been anything less than fabulous!

A local gem for top-quality meat! Highly recommend this butcher if you’re after premium cuts, fair prices, and a team that truly knows their craft.

Yelp
I didn't WANT to move out of Tufnell Park, but such is life. Meat NW5 opened shop about a month prior to my lease ending, so I got a wonderful taste of what I'm missing out on. The shop itself is nice and open and doesn't feel cluttered/cramped like a lot of butchers: instead of having a traditional butchery setup with the counter dividing butcher and customer, the most of the meat is displayed in a counter at the front of the shop. It's nice not to feel pinned in; at the same time, it probably makes queuing a bit chaotic during busy periods. There's also a deli section featuring a nice assortment of sauces, condiments, pasta et al. The meat itself is great quality (and all free-range too if you're into that) - I got to try their rib-eye steak and pork chops, both of which were excellent. I could have cut my steak up with a child's arts and crafts scissors, it was deliciously textured; as for the flavour, I would have preferred a touch more mature, but this was definitely one of the best home-cooked steaks I've had. The pork chops I had were also great - hefty and flavourful. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try out anything else, but I'm sure I will do when I move back oop north (hopefully). In terms of price and quality, it's definitely up there with somewhere like HG Walter (my former local) - it's not that much more expensive than the free range selection at a supermarket meat counter, plus they have a decent selection of cheaper cuts too. If I ever needed an incentive to return to Tufnell Park...

Yelp
I tried a really good selection of what they sell and everytime I was really disappointed! First time I go for some charcuterie. The ham is A-ok even if I think I had in one slice my weekly dose of salt...The paté is totally disgusting. Second time I tried the burger beef steak,it tastes of nothing at all! But I have no other option in the neighborhood so I got back a third time and tried some really expensive matured beef and... The beef tastes of nothing! The decor and atmosphere are really nice but this is just an illusion. Never again!

Yelp
How lucky do you have to be to have a friendly, knowledgeable, patient butcher near your home?! The quality of the lamb here varies from very good to amazing. There aren't many options for cold cuts but it's not what I go there for anyway. I love that they know where the meat comes from and that it's from local, organic farms. The butchers are very helpful, cutting the meat exactly as you need it, and the staff in general is always friendly and smiling.

Yelp
Meat NW5 is literally the dream. One of the first of many hipster/posh stores to open up on Fortess Rd, Kentish Town (which clearly shows the gentrification of the area) this store has amazing quality food, staff and service. I will frequently pop in here for a nice piece of fresh meat, whether it's a fancy steak, posh sausages, or flavourful marinated chicken. You can watch the butchers do their thing on blocks right at the front of the store, and they really know their stuff. This place is rammed with experts, and they'll remember you, which is a lovely touch. They also have a wall full of seriously delicious wines, with sample tastings every weekend. Their staff know exactly which wine goes best with each cut of meat, and you can guarantee every bottle has been carefully selected. Pick up a little something extra from their tasty range of cheeses, deli items and condiments, and go have a great night in!

Yelp
Meat NW5 is like the ultimate middle class / posh, yummy meat shop. A while ago my husband and I decided to eat less meat, but when we *do* eat meat, we want to make sure that it is really good quality (as happy animals seem to become tastier meat...) This means we'd much prefer to buy from a butcher, rather than the supermarket. We popped in to buy a shoulder of lamb to roast when my mum came to visit for mother's day. The joint was really, really tasty (and pricey - £18.67 for enough for 4 people.) We also bought a couple of small pies because it was pi-day (ham hock & peas, as well as lamb, chorizo & chickpeas) They were both delicious, but at £3.95 each, I'm not sure if I'd buy them again. The great things: - This shop is pretty...it is well set out with delicious food in all directions. - The staff were all really friendly and helpful. - It is full of really tasty things (not just meat! They have a good delicatessen counter as well...) - They have a tub of lollipops for children when families come shopping, which is a really sweet touch. The less-great: - The prices make Waitrose seem cheap(!) - The queuing system seems a bit chaotic. To be honest, I do really like bargains, so I'm not going to abandon the other lovely butchers shop on York Way (it is a little more traditional, and quite a lot cheaper...) but I have a feeling I'll come back here when we fancy something as a treat.

Yelp
Lovely shop and very helpful staff but I ate the onglet yesterday and spent most of the night on the toilet so I won't be going back in a hurry
