We stopped in here just to check it out and decided to have lunch while we were here. At first it may seem high priced, but the size of the sandwiches are unbelievable. We couldn't fit it in our mouths. Well worth it! We ended up buying steaks as well and they were nice enough to keep them in the cooler for us until we were ready to leave! Great customer service! We will be back! Great place! Nice people! Extensive selection! They also carry exotic meats if anyone is interested!

Look, we drove two hours, took a ferry, and were NOT disappointed!! This is a whole experience. First, it smells incredible walking in. The staff is so friendly, and the selections are SO unique AND authentic. The jerky is not full of pork fillers, the butcher cooler is full of fresh meats, Appalachia honey...just so many little goodies! Now the subs. Look at those freaking subs. The is authentic NY-style subs. I can say that because I'm a born-and-raised NYer. I needed both hands just to hold it! My husband got the Italian and it was a *real* Italian. I got a build-your-own with roast beef, corned beef, Swiss, green peppers, and fried onions. Why am I sharing those details? Because I've never had onions like these, little crispy and fried. Delicious! I have only one complaint and it's so minimal I'm not docking a star. My complaint? The napkins were nowhere near thick enough to handle the enormity of this sub lol. I'm so glad we brought a cooler because we're bringing so much back with us!

Absolutely Incredible!!! The best Pastrami sandwich I’ve had for a long time! I had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful establishment on the way to the ferry and it was amazing. HUGE portions, great menu…. Desserts, salads , sandwiches, and an enormous selection of exotic jerky’s. The butcher portion had some beautiful steaks and ribs. This place is a “ must visit”. The staff is super friendly and the food is delicious.

Wonderful meat! Way better quality then your average grocery store! They cut to your thickness preference, wrap them up ready to go in the fridge or freezer! They also make sandwiches!! We will definitely be regulars!

The phrase you get what you pay for 100% applies here! Absolutely the best wrap I've had in ages! Kids meals are huge but adult meals are enormous! Don't skip on the combo as the desserts are to die for!!

Plenty of variety! I think there was even gator and bison. There were sauces and jellies, candies and syrups ... Just to name a few. I left with crab cakes, crabmeat, mixed berry syrup and Red Rocker candy. Thankfully one of my friends brought a cooler. What a great excursion!

The food was so good. We got a ham on ham sandwich and the pastrami sandwich. For this to be a meat market it was so clean and smelled so good

This place has a lot of unique selections of meats, spices, and sauces. The sub was so big i had to plan my attack before consuming it! Highly recommend a visit out to Surry, Va.

A solid 4.0 place. After driving by this place many times we finally stopped and checked the place out. We didn't buy any meats but looked over what was being offered and seemed fair priced compared to the chain places. My guess is that these would have been way better tasting though. Maybe next time. We just didn't need anything today. Now I will say this besides some nice looking ribeyes, this is clearly the place to go for exotic meats. Frog legs, bison, and alligator just to name a few. We did buy a few sandwich's and our review is based on that. The wifey got herself a roast beef sandwich and I got a ham and cheese. Both were packed with meat. Very filling. Now don't get me wrong you'll pay for these sandwich's but with the meat they stack on you won't be mad. We both like our sandwich's and remember what I said about being full of meat - my wifey brought 1/2 of hers home. As for me - I finished mine but won't be eating an early dinner :). The young lady who made our sandwiches took care of us and the other customers by herself and I think she did real well. The place offers no inside eating but a couple tables outside near the front door that are covered and a couple picnic benches next to the building, uncovered. Today with the sun and heat - covered was our choice. So again after years of passing this place - I'm glad we stopped. Decent sandwiches. I'm sure we will stop in again.

Food: Turkey sub- Fresh meat and HUGE! I like it pretty plain Jane so just may, white American cheese, lettuce snd tomato (nice and thin sliced!) seriously it felt like a pound of shaved turkey meat. Pastrami and roast beef sub-also same amount of meat and fresh quality. Macaroni salad- good, I like mine a touch sweeter but still good and creamy. Oreo cake slice-Really good! Great flavor and moist. Carrot Cake- good sized, flavor and moist. Service: Only one woman working the place so had to wait a bit for sandwiches to be made and to have her help with anyone who came in. Didn't take too long and she was friendly and helped explain the process since this was our first time here. Ambiance: Small place inside with a counter to order sandwiches and see some salads and desserts in a cold counter. No seating inside but lots of tables on a porch and in the yard.

Such a cute place but very disappointed that a butcher shop restaurant used processed/fake turkey and ham. My husband's sub was huge as was my salad!!! Fair price for the huge portion but I'd much rather have a smaller sub/salad in exchange for real meat.

Prices are absurd, which I guess makes sense since there is a total monopoly here and the town itself is a bit remote. The meats for sale did not look very fresh. I was impressed by the number of local goods they have and it could definitely be a great place to grab some local gifts. We were thinking of getting some sandwiches since they did look great, but pricing was high and the wait was very long. I was very turned off by the fact that they offer 10% off to leave a review, but they make you complete the review and show the cashier before cashing out. Seems a bit pressuring and disingenuous.

This Sandwich shop is worth trekking to Surry just to try. It's small butcher and Sandwich shop. They have tons of different kinds of meat, but the highlight is the sandwhiches. The meat was wonderful. Each piece I tried was full of flavor nothing like the stuff you can purchase in the grocery store. Also don't let the picture fool you. The sandwhiches are huge. One will fill up the hungriest person. All in all they be should take some time to visit surry and have lunch here.

I am new to the Surry, Va area and got a Rueben on Rye when I first visited Meats of Virginia. I was totally impressed. It was packed with corned beef and all the flavors blended perfectly. They greeted me as soon as I came in and explained the options for all the high quality meats and products they sell. I like high quality food and they obviously do too. The atmosphere was bright, cheerful, and takeout only. I'll be back many times. People drive from long distances to eat and shop here and I see why.

The first time I visited, was just passing through. I just picked up a few items from the store. Today, I got to try the veggie sub and I got a turkey sub for my kids. Both were delicious!!!! So many veggies and so much meat, it was very satisfying. Absolutely the best sub I've ever had!

Amazing Fresh Deli Cut Sandwiches, Using Real 100 % Meats & Cheeses, Definitely Can Taste The Difference & Higher Quality In Each Bite ! We Have Been Waiting To Go & Now Hate That We Waited So Long.. Yum

They have the meats! Yes, this establishment was once called Edward's Ham Shop! I loved it then and love it now. Yes, I miss the nostalgic Edward's which closed after 100 years (!), but I was happy the new owners kept the meat industry alive by offering some delicious meats, deli items, and local foods. They also still carry the famed Edward's hams and it's worth a trip to Surry to stock up on these scrumptious cuts of meat! On a recent trip, I filled my cooler with pork chops, bacon, several steaks, Edward's ham and Edward's sausage links! I also grabbed some snacks, chips, Virginia peanuts, candies, spices, sauces, some ham biscuits, drinks and other products. They offer ice packs and my haul was kept nice and cold for the duration of our trip! The new owners we super friendly and helpful! I'm hog wild over this place!!

So many hard to find meats! Fresh venison, elk, and ostrich! Will be coming back for sure.

We kept seeing their roadsigns on our rides to the Scotland/Jamestown Ferry. Finally stopped for Lunch. Great Porch with tables and a great lawn area with tables as well as a big parking lot. It is a deli for Sandwiches but also has Ice Cream and Milkshakes. It also is an old time store with local Jams, Jelly and Canned and Bottled Vegetables as well as Peanuts. They are also a Local Meat market that has exotic meats such as Buffalo, Bison, and Others. The sandwiches are Priced to match the size of the sandwich, they are Stuffed with enough meat and fixings to share so you might start with one to share. We will make this our stop for future drives and picnics in the area!!

Excellent quality meats, if I had four hands I'd give them four thumbs up! They have the best steaks I've ever seen and eaten. The staff is very friendly. The store is set up perfect.

This is a cute place to stop to get an ice cream, milkshake or container of peanuts. The milkshakes were delicious!

I ordered an Italiano with all the fixings for lunch. I felt like an idiot thinking I could eat this in my work truck because the sandwich was bigger than my face and proceeded to get all over me. It was OK, too big without the right vegetable to meat combination for my liking. Two bites and it starts to fall apart. Nice staff and cool little store.

Sandwiches were freshly made and ingredients were plentiful!! Friendly owners!! Great selection of meats to take home. Large variety of salsas, dips, jellies, soups ,?&!homey. Just a quaint shop with a tasty menu

My husband and I stopped here while taking a ride. First we were treated by a lovely lady who had a smile and was very welcoming. She described all her sandwiches and offerings. We ordered two sandwiches. My husband ordered the Italian and I ordered one with Pastrami and Roast Beef. Both of course had lettuce, tomato, etc. The owner came and explained how he likes to make big sandwiches so that people will come back. When he gave me mine I couldn't believe how heavy it was. When we opened our sandwiches I COULD NOT BELIEVE how big they were!!!!! I could barely open my mouth big enough to eat it. The meat was so fresh and so were the veggies. My husband is a big eater and he could not eat it all. He saved the other half for dinner. It took me three days to eat mine. We can not wait to go back to this true Treasure of Surry County. They also have all kinds of different cuts of meat, from Bison to Elk. Thank you for the best Sandwich Experience. I stack this place next to Katz's Deli in New York City. See you soon!

Very disappointed. Processed pressed ham in the club. Not worth the money at all. Don't waste your money on a sandwich. We threw it away.

They serve Processed salty ham that isn't worth eating and to top it all of I paid $22 for a ham sandwich and drink nothing else.... Whoever claims it's the #1 deli in Virginia probably hasn't eaten anywhere else

Good sub - limited options the day I visited so I'd be eager to know what a normal day looks like. Service was a bit slow as only one person was working and she seemed to be having a rather busy time with customers and a supply delivery. Loved sitting on the porch to eat. I'd try it again to see if it's as busy all the time or if that day was a fluke.

Great sandwiches and nice meat selections. Staff is polite. Exotic meats as well. Nice to have meats like steaks individually packaged.

Sandwich was absolutely amazing only issue I had was I didn't know where to start. If your hungry this is where you want to go for a food I promise your not going to leave hungry. It seems a little out the way but if you take the ferry it's a pretty quick trip and well worth it.

Adorable place of the beaten path. Family owned with huge portions of a variety of sandwiches. We split a Cuban that was very tasty! Brought home an Italian sandwich that fed two for lunch. Won't be long in Virginia, but glad we found this place on FB!

First time visiting this place was yesterday. Got a pastrami/corned beef/swiss on rye. Absolutely amazing! High quality deli meat, and plenty of it! Such a pleasure to patronize a small business that provides great food. This is be a mandatory stop when I'm in the area

We arrived 10 minutes before closing and the deli was closed so we couldn't get a sub sandwich. Why advertise open till 7 when you really aren't. Everything was thrown out I was told. Same thing happened when it was Edwards Hams, nothing has improved.

First time ordering from here. Particularly impressed with variety and high quality of products and open communication. Steve and his son are friendly and courteous. Have ordered from others in the past. But no more! Husband says, "Semper Fi," Steve.

I came here once the expectations of eating sandwich on the moon now what I got was much greater then that the sandwich was so good that I might as well have been eating the moon and it was so tasty now the customer service was extremely good and I will highly recommend this place...

I have been wanting to stop here for a while but they were already closed when we came through. Finally got to stop today. Ordered 2 Turkey Club Subs. One with what comes on it (add oil & vinegar) and one with just mayo. We made them combos, with a drink, desert and chips. I had to settle for Jalepeno chips as they were otherwise sold out. $50 later, we head out. When we got the subs home, first thought was wow no wonder they cost so much. They are so huge. Like over a lb of meat. Then I tried to bite into it. Unfortunately the quality of the turkey was the cheapest deli version I have seen in awhile. So bad that I could not eat it. I threw all of that out, leaving the bacon and the tiny bit of lettuce, tomato and onions. I am so highly disappointed. For a specialty store like this, you should be carrying the top of the line. The price should reflect the quality of the product not the quantity.

We've ordered from here many times, we typically order the Pichana, Ribeye, and Tenderloin. Everything has always been top notch quality, delivered in a timely manner and competitively priced.
