Nothing quite prepares you for entering the Main Hall upstairs. The building dates back to 1857, and is an architectural masterpiece. Stunning portraits of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln grace either side of the main stage, with other portraits of local historical figures surround the balcony. The ceiling, walls, wooden balcony, and stage are all archictecturally stunning. Performances and lectures read like a whose who of history-Enrico Caruso, Mark Twain, Henry David Thoreau, Charles Dickens, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton,Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Beverly Sills, Henry Mancini, Tony Bennett, Yo Yo Ma and Winton Marsalis are only some of the figures gracing the stage here. Fantastic place to see a concert as the acoustics are incredidle. Ony downside is it only seats about a thousand. Come here for a show, your jaw will drop.
