A two-level coffee shop in a university district, and the academic energy here is real. While other coffee shops start shifting to a weekend vibe by Friday afternoon, this place stays focused—even on a Saturday, most people are locked into their screens, studying or working. It’s great knowing there’s a spot where you can still find a productive atmosphere on the weekend. The coffee is excellent, and the space feels open and inviting, thanks to the high ceilings and second level. We grabbed a table upstairs, which offered a nice view of the café below. Good music, good design, and a balanced mix of quiet and activity. By the time we arrived, all pastries were sold out, but that’s on us for coming after the morning rush. Clearly, this place keeps busy, and for good reason. If you’re looking for a solid coffee spot with a studious, focused atmosphere, Medici Roasting delivers. A must-visit if you need a weekend work session with great coffee.

Google
Ordered an iced latte, got watery milk an essence of coffee. Not sure how it’s possible for a latte to taste like nothing at all, couldn’t taste the milk. The coffee was barely there, it was like a whisper in the back of your throat. I’m no coffee aficionado but I appreciate the different roasts and undertones of a good cup of joe. You don’t get that here. Spacious coffee shop with two floors and many tables so I can see why students go here to study, probably for the ambiance not the coffee.

Today I finally decided to try Medici Roasting after hearing from one of my professors how good it is. I ordered a hot Pumpkin Pie Latte, and it was so delicious! It was the perfect mixture between sweet and bitter. The customer service was excellent, the baristas are very sweet and know what they’re doing. I stayed for 3 hours doing some essays on the second floor. Very cozy and warm atmosphere. I liked how it was a good balance between loud and quiet. Thank you!! I will definitely come back to try new items.

Google
I got the Strawberry Rose Matcha as it was a special drink on the blackboard recommended by the batista, and it sounded yummy but the drink itself didn't taste like much, very watery with a hint of matcha and strawberry flavor. Not very sweet, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it was unflavored in general. The service was nice though, not overtly excited but amiable workers. The atmosphere of the place itself is my favorite part, would be very good for studying, hanging out, or drawing. I don't particularly like the art on the walls though, very trite and bad paintings. But I respect that they're all local Austin artists. I do enjoy the cardboard still life's a lot.

The coffee at Medici Roasting is nothing short of exceptional. They take pride in sourcing high-quality beans and roasting them to perfection, bringing out the rich, complex flavors in every cup. Whether you’re ordering a classic espresso, a pour-over, or a latte, the attention to detail is evident. The baristas are skilled and knowledgeable, ensuring each drink is crafted with precision. Their espresso has a robust, smooth taste with a perfect balance of acidity, while the pour-over options highlight the nuanced flavors of single-origin beans. Service at Medici Roasting is professional and friendly. The staff is passionate about coffee and always willing to share their expertise or recommend a new blend to try. Despite the café often being busy, the service remains efficient, and the baristas maintain a welcoming demeanor that makes you feel at home. Medici Roasting locations offer a mix of modern and cozy aesthetics. The spaces are typically bright and airy, with plenty of natural light, clean lines, and a minimalist design that emphasizes comfort. The atmosphere is relaxed, making it an ideal spot for both working and socializing. Whether you’re there to catch up on some work or have a chat with friends, the ambiance supports a range of activities.

Google
Air conditioner, broken, cooler unplugged with warm sodas in it, tables are dirty, sign on the door says cash only and the whole place looks like it is falling apart. The cup of coffee is decent, but you can’t hang out and enjoy it because it’s a mess in here.

Google
I've been coming here once a week as a little pick me up after I meet with my therapist who works off of UT campus. It is always clean and smells nice in here, the baristas are kind and respectful and always playing something interesting on the speakers. The vibes downstairs differ from those upstairs, one being quieter and one being more sociable and noisy, so it's nice to have two different options depending on your mood. There is charm and character to the inside with wood paneling and real wooden tables and chairs and a real brick wall. Very cozy industrial. The coffee has never disappointed me, it's coffee! And they have a GREAT selection of food and treats available throughout the day. Would recommend it as a place to stop if you're looking for coffee in and around guad and the campus.

Google
Been going here for a year and some change- the baristas all deserve more than an applause. They see hundreds of students daily- many of them who don’t even say thank you. But they still show up, practice their latte art, and share an experience with The Drag and UT. They’ve opened the doors to homelessness, student organizations, and so much more. I think it’s one of the greatest tasting coffees in Austin and I’ve heard the same from so many people! When dialed correctly, a double espresso can showcase their awesome vision for specialty coffee. More than anything, the baristas at Guad are some of the most fun and heart-filled people and if given the chance to be treated like humans with feelings and compassion, you’d also join the hundreds of regulars (UT students, UT professors, people who work remotely, and people who have lived in Austin and have experienced the story of Medici the last 17 years) who take the time to head to Medici over any other local specialty shop in Austin. The one thing that does suck is parking so good luck with that!

Yelp
I ordered a matcha iced drink. Customized it with coconut and lavender. Employees are friendly. Ambience was quite and casual. They have plenty of room upstairs were you can work and study
google avatar

Yelp
Deaf-friendly/accessible! Any time I go, I just tell them that I'm Deaf and they always make sure to pass on the message so that they wave me down when my coffee is ready, instead of just saying my name and then wondering why no one comes and claims it. They have really good coffee and atmosphere and the staff are friendly! And I really love all the local artwork on the walls!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Very friendly staff, huge location - right across from the university and has a lot of room for studying. Pricing is a little steep but way better quality than Starbucks. We got a couple iced vanilla lattes with oat milk and the mix of ingredients was on-point giving it a great rich taste, not bitter, smooth and drinkable.
google avatar

Yelp
5 stars for the really nice service, friendly cashier and exceptional matcha. Thankfully well whisked and none of that pre mixed milk and sugar nonsense. You can add however much simple syrup you want and go from grass to sugar cookie real quick. I like a good medium and the great matcha combined with chill music and cozy atmosphere is enough to make me come back! Don't get the espresso with the soda water w ice though, it's basically eating ice.

Yelp
This place is super busy due to its location. It was difficult to find a good place to do work and wifi connection wasn't strong on the second floor. The iced chai was good but the overall experience got this place a 3. Would probably not recommend this place when it's super busy but maybe if you come early and claim your spot it would be worth it!
google avatar

Minh D.

Yelp
Tried their matcha and it was surprisingly okay. Seating was ample because they have two floors but it can be crowded quite quickly with UT students. They have a variety of pastries as well. Good place for to catch up with a friend or do quick work as they have free wifi. Noise level is on the medium/high and lots of movements as people come in and out frequently.

Douglas F.

Yelp
Definitely worth stopping in to wait a bit of time before a meeting on UT campus. Since the UT Union and such are closed to anyone who doesn't have a valid UT permit, having a place with solid Wi-Fi service, decent food (their breakfast tacos are how things should be done, with the right cheese), and good drinks for a morning, right by campus, is nice. It still has a vibe harking back from the days of the Metro coffee house from the '90s, with a decent upstairs. If it isn't crowded, it is a nice place to get something, have a breather, then get ready to start the day.

Yelp
My latest quality of life upgrade: a new courthouse just opened up at 1700 Guadalupe, and as an attorney, I'll be spending a lot of time there. Lately, I've been buying my morning coffee at Medicini. The service has always been impeccable. The baristas are warm and friendly, but quiet-friendly, for when it's too early for an energetic interaction. The ratio is right on for the cappuccino without being too milky, and without tasting burnt or sour. I can't comment on the flavored options because I've been so impressed with the classic cappuccino, a drink that I've had a hard time finding made well elsewhere, but the combinations sound interesting. I will definitely be a regular here.
google avatar

Brianna Z.

Yelp
Got their half-off deal for afternoon pastries, which makes it a pretty good price. Blueberry muffin was standard, but not bad. The ambiance makes Medici a nice study spot
google avatar

Phillip O.

Yelp
I've been to every Caffe Medici location and they are all wonderful. My favorite is the Roasting location on Springdale. I always grab mine to go, but it seems like a great place to meet or work.

Olivia T.

Yelp
I'm a regular here and I appreciate the service and the quality of the drinks. Brandon makes my matcha just right and not too sweet, and I'm picky about my drinks. I feel welcome at this location and no one tells me to leave if I've been on my laptop for too long. The food is ok but the drinks and the service is really what keeps me coming back!
google avatar

J M.

Yelp
Very good coffee spot for studying and chilling with a convenient location close to campus. The service was alright and they gave me a sticker!
google avatar

Samantha H.

Yelp
I feel like the website is a bit misleading, since it's not clear which of their locations have food other than the breakfast tacos (which they stop serving around 11:30am), so that was really disappointing. I got a Maple Pumpkin Spice Latte and a Cinnamon Knot, which were good, but didn't make up for the fact that you have to pay for parking, so‍Probably won't be back.

Yelp
Really cute place to study, tables a bit shaky though. Ordered a house coffee and it was really weird tasting. Typically love coffee shop house coffees. There's lots of tables just keep in mind it gets busy so wouldn't recommend for large groups.

Yelp
My coffee was delicious! I was in town for a conference, and enjoyed getting a taste of a local coffee shop. I had a specialty cappuccino and really liked the flavor. If I'm ever in Austin, I'll definitely return! This seemed like a good place to work too. Nice ambiance.
google avatar

Yelp
Great (if not best) option for coffee near UT campus. Lovely espresso. They have a selection of pour over but I've not had it (or seen anyone buy it). Some pastries. Breakfast tacos in the morning. Small but tasty selection of premade sandwiches and salads. But generally everyone is here for the coffee. Lots of room to spread out. Many folks on laptops working.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty forgettable coffee if you ask me. Decided to give them a try and ordered a cafe au lait on the Rdy app. It was waiting for me when I arrived, but I gotta say it just lacked that coffee punch I was looking for. I much prefer the coffee at other places around town. Nothing wrong with it, and it looked like a good place to work at, but it feels like the actual coffee is not the focus.
google avatar

Yelp
The classic cappuccino trap. Good coffee, but way too much milk. So hard to say if we liked it or not (good milk though)...

Yelp
Located on Guadalupe street next to a CVS pharmacy, lays home to Caffe Medici. The entrance is hidden by construction but there is a big sign that to help you find it. The interior is super cute and well lit. It's not too noisy which makes it a great place to get some studying done or just a chill time with friends. The service is great, averaging to about 3-4 minutes per cup. I'm currently hunting for the best cold brew, and sadly it's will not be here, just because they don't have cold brew. They do have iced coffee which I'm assuming is close to a cold brew. The iced coffee isn't sour which is great, but it is a bit watered down. But overall a pretty durable cup. My friend ordered the seasonal peppermint hot chocolate. She said that there was a perfect balance between the chocolate and peppermint. The fit sip was more chocolate but then dilutes into a pepperminty taste. Overall, great interior, awesome service, great coffee!

Yelp
Do NOT go here! After my experience this morning, I'll never go here again. Over the years, I've stopped to get coffee here just a few times on my way to class on campus only when I really needed caffeine and didn't have time to go elsewhere because I hate their brewed coffee and the sometimes rude, dismissive service. But today was the last time because the service was obnoxiously rude. The menu lists the price range for brewed coffee beginning at $3.00 without showing the price for specific sizes, so I ordered a small thinking that must be the $3 size. Right? When the surly hipster dude who rang up my order said the total was 3.84, I said, "Excuse me, I ordered a small." He held up a cup the size of a Starbucks tall, looked at me like I was an idiot, and said, "This is a small." "Is that $3?" I asked. He then held up a tiny 8oz cup and sneered, "This is $3." I responded, "Okay, that's what I want then." I then asked very calmly and politely, "Just for clarification, what should I have ordered if not "small?" He lost it and told me to just leave the store!! I repeated I just wanted to know what to order if not "small" for the $3 size. He refused to answer and again told me to just leave. Wow, just wow. As I was leaving I said with a smile, "I really hope you like your next job much better than this one." No more awful, outrageously overpriced coffee served by pathetic hipsters who must hate themselves, no matter how bad I need some caffeine.

Yelp
Stopped in for some laptop time early in the morning and hung out for about an hour with my coffee. This is a large coffee shop with many additional seats upstairs. Plenty of room to spread out and not be bumping elbows with your fellow patrons. There are some breakfast items on the menu but I stuck with a simple drip coffee that was delicious. Plenty of wifi, lots of power outlets, lots of comfortable workspaces which I would expect as they are just about across the street from UT Austin. [Review 10159 overall, 1745 of 2018.]

Yelp
A few weeks back I went to Medici Roasting for the first time and I ordered a Latte ($5) and it was decent. I didn't care much for it, but I figured since I was there I would get some work done. I couldn't stay more than 10 minutes as the Wi-Fi was not working. I had to leave to another coffee shop a few blocks down, so I could get some work done. Not a good experience. I give them a 2/5.
google avatar

Allister D.

Yelp
This coffee shop is just alright. This is more of a college town type cafe with coffee, draft beers, and your typical pastries. It's an excellent place to come and study and read! I ordered a cortado which had espresso brewed from Spyhouse coffee co. (Based in Minnesota). It wasn't creamy and bold enough for me but it was decent. This place is excellent for students since it's directly across the campus. I did enjoy sitting on the second floor on this comfy couches (a little tore up but it's whatever). Grab a cup of coffee and read a book here!
google avatar

Tiffany H.

Yelp
The best thing about Medici is its proximity to campus which makes it a convenient study spot. It's coffee, however, is mediocre so it is not a go-to.
google avatar

Yemi ..

Yelp
About the best caramel latte I have had in an extremely long time if not the best ever. The only regret I had was that I did not have enough time to savor the latte in the cafe. The customer service was good as well; friendly and welcoming. Definitely will stop by again when in the area.
google avatar

Jon H.

Yelp
I was visiting from out of town and looking for a place to work on my laptop for a few hour and Medici was perfect. Good vibes, lots of students and other people working. The open space and upstairs and downstairs make it the perfect place to post up and enjoy a great coffee.
google avatar

Kimberly B.

Yelp
A great coffee shop amidst the busyness of all the other shops along Guadalupe! It has two floors and plenty of seating. The coffee is good and even though I'm a heavy matcha enthusiast who always orders a matcha latte at every new coffee shop, I found their other drinks to be pretty good. The only thing is that the WiFi tends to cut out or not work but perhaps that's because there's a lot of people using it (which is a good!). Overall, this is my go to coffee shop near campus!
google avatar

Sherrill S.

Yelp
I almost never drink coffee, but when I do I go to the quirky coffee shops. Cafe Medici is definitely a quirky one and has its own personality. This is a great place to get some group studying done because the atmosphere has a chill vibe. There are two levels to this coffee shop- so there's plenty of space all the time. I ordered a latte and recieved in within 3 minutes of my order. They put a cute heart design with the cream/foam to my delight. It was the perfect taste for me- just the right amount of sweetness. Love this place and will be coming here again next time I have a group meet up!
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
The best coffee shop in Austin! I go a few times a week for an oatmilk cortado and they nail it each time!
google avatar

Kellie H.

Yelp
Caffe Medici is convenient and quick. The baristas were really nice. Unfortunately, their coffee is pretty meh. They have a decent amount of space for studying and chatting with two tables for outdoor seating.
google avatar

Sam P.

Yelp
It's no secret cyclist love coffee and I'm no different. Hot summer months here in the ATX call for iced lattes and honestly they can really be hit and miss. Meet up here to pickup a new bike. Space was nice everything chill iced latte was a miss (hella weak) and expensive.
google avatar

Iris C.

Yelp
A-MAZING LATTE! I had wavered between getting just a drip or a latte. Guy behind the counter said he makes a pretty good latte so I took his challenge. And happy that I did! I claim to be no coffee connoisseur; however, I know what tastes good and that was one FANTASTIC LATTE! And it had coffee art. I know, I know, you're thinking everybody does that. Actually, I disagree. Many coffee places I've been to actually don't have coffee art! So I loved having the cute foam design. The weather was nice so I sat outside a bit before trekking around UT so I can't say much about the environment, but I'll just say college kids are lucky to have a cool coffee house like this with delicious coffee. Thank you to the Barista! Now that I'm not in Austin, all I can do is crave another latte. Until then...
google avatar

Brian K.

Yelp
I'm so Old School Austin I can remember when this place was called Metro... And before that it wad Insomnia... And before that it was Mick's Mix... And before that it was a Whataburger... Damn, I'm old. Oh, and the current owners serve up some good coffee.
google avatar

Jeff W.

Yelp
Caffe Medici is a spacious venue and a great place to study. However, they are way too pricey. $ 3.25 for a small cup of coffee is not inexpensive. College students live on fixed incomes. Lower the price of your java drinks and I'll be back.
google avatar

Blair V.

Yelp
If you like iced black coffee, you'd be disappointed at Cafe Medici. Compared to Starbucks iced coffee, Medici's tastes watered down. I would stick with their lattes. They also carry a few beer selections for the non coffee drinkers. I like the pastries that have, especially their raspberry croissant. Come early if you want to grab a breakfast taco, as they carry a select few of Taco Deli's tacos! There is plenty of seating as the coffee shop has two stories but parking can be hard to find around campus especially during school hours/days. Avoid parking at the Co-op parking garage as they charge an arm and a leg. Try to find parking along Guadalupe or the street over as side parking spots are more affordable, $1 an hour.
google avatar

Mike P.

Yelp
Service: 4 | Quality: 4 | Setting: 4 | Value: 3 Must get: Latte (hot) Around campus, I think Caffe Medici has the best coffee. I ordered a small latte, and the espresso flavor really comes through! However, they'll charge you $1 more than either Starbucks or Coffee Traders. You are paying for the couches, eclectic decor, and abundance of tables, but less than those half have outlet access. There's free wifi, which is something to be expected nowadays, and a constant mix of people doing work, having meetings, or just hanging out. That being said, it can get a little loud. Caffe Medici is a great place to meet someone or do some homework on your own!
google avatar

Kaileen M.

Yelp
Grabbed a quick breakfast and coffee on my way to campus. Cold brew was good, and they have solid brisket/barbacoa tacos. And lots of seating available upstairs!
google avatar

Leila R.

Yelp
I had mixed feelings about my first (and only) visit here. After a cold, gray, drizzly day of touring campus, this place looked like it would hit the spot. Unfortunately, it didn't. When you walk in, you know it is definitely a university hangout for studying, homework, and just vegging, which is great. I decided on a dirty chai (hot because I was cold) and for the 12oz size it came to almost $6?! I was honestly taken aback. I have had many a dirty chai and for the small size it is usually under or around the $4 mark. The only time I have paid $5 for a dirty chai was when it was blended with TWO shots. Which brings me to my other sort of "ummmok?" thing about this place...they don't have a blender, so you cannot get blended drinks. The barista informed me its because they are not Starbucks and with the noise level of blenders it would harsh the places mellow vibe. Ok, I get that and it's fine, except for I could get a much better dirty chai (the chai had absolutely no flavor to it) at Starbucks for about $1.50 less, blended. But, maybe dirty chai isn't their "gig". So why the 3-stars? The service saved this place from the 2-star bottom of the barrel. Both of the baristas were very nice and accommodating and though I did not enjoy my chai, the free mocha latte we ended up getting (the barista made this by mistake instead of the hot chocolate my friend ordered) was delicious, well made, and the foam art was amazing! I don't ever see myself coming back here again, but I always like to experience the local vibe and I definitely got that at this campus location.

Natalie M.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere! Great latte and great selection of pastries. Definitely recommend
google avatar

Yelp
When I can't study at home, I'll come here. Coffee and food is good and affordable. Plenty of spots to sit down, but parking is scarce. Find street parking or ride a bike! If you plan on staying here longer than your laptop battery can handle, plane to bring an extension cord, or better yet, a surge protector so that you can charge your beloved electronics with those around you. Restaurants are nearby if you get hungry as well! Cvs and Chipotle are neighbors. The Union is a stone's throw away. Would recommend this as a place to study or catch up with a friend, or to read a book!
google avatar

Jannifer K.

Yelp
$5.50 for a pour over is incredibly steep to me (compared to other shops I frequent). This wouldn't be my first choice, but if you're in the area it's probably the best you can get. On the plus side, the upstairs seating is quite cozy, and baristas are friendly. All in all, based on price point, atmosphere, coffee quality, and location, I wouldn't recommend this place to others but this place is still alright.
google avatar

Kirsten H.

Yelp
Tons of seating, clean bathrooms, good coffee, and a nice selection of pastries like muffins make this a good place for breakfast. The breakfast tacos they offer until they sell out makes it an even better place!
google avatar

Charlotte J.

Yelp
This is a great little cafe right off of the UT Austin campus. We stopped in here on a sunny Saturday afternoon looking for a cold beverage and cool place to drink it, and we found both. I tried their cold brew and my boyfriend had a Topo Chico. The cold brew was great; strong and flavorful, exactly what I needed, and for a fair price. The space itself is two-stories, and we sat on the ground floor near the cash register. It seems like a great place to hang out and get some work done if you're a student or you live nearby. The barista was friendly, and overall we had a good experience at this coffee shop.

Yelp
I woke up super early for church on a sunday morning and planned to take a stroll to try this coffee shop. I was excited to try it since it had so many reviews with decent amount of stars, and when I saw the pictures of the designs it looked like it was amazeballs. When I walked in, i loved the huge rooms, available tables and the basic layout of the coffee shop. The service was great and the barista was very friendly. Why did I give 2 stars?? This review is based solely on their iced vanilla latte. My total came out to $4.60 and it was the smallest size! I was disappointed to see the size of the regular, it literally looks like a small cup. not even 16oz. $4.60 is a good price for a large, but for a small??? kinda thought that was a little ridiculous. After being disappointed with the size, I was hoping the taste of my sweet vanilla latte would make up for my frowns. Either the Barista forgot to put in my shots of vanilla or I just couldn't taste it. Im pretty sure there was no shot of vanilla because the proportion of the small size cup didn't even taste one bit of flavor/sweetness. It tasted like a regular strong somewhat bitter latte. Sigh.... this ruined my morning stroll back to the apartment. I was not a happy camper.

Yelp
If I attended college at the UT, this would have been my home away from home....however, I'm definitely no longer a college student, but at the current moment, I'm hanging among the college crowd. This cafe is full of desks, comfy chairs, BUT not outlets for your devices. Those are far and few between, so come here fully charged if you have a device. That being said, this place is totally an awesome place to study, read, and catch up with a friend. Noise level is average, so if you need complete quiet, it may not work for you. However, wear your BOSE headphones like I am; and it pretty much drowns out the noise. Coffee is average prices--same as a Starbucks. However, yesterday I got a gluten free pop tart (OMG, totally delish) but it was a whooping $5.15!!!! That was shocking. Overall, I really enjoy the location and the coffee (americanos are what I've bought both days) have been awesome. I'd recommend!!
google avatar

Lilan N.

Yelp
I like this caffe Medici, because it's conveniently located on campus, but it's not as good as the other location. This location is saturated with businesspeople or students chattering away, either on their cell phones or to each other. Other than the loud noise level, the coffee was good! The vanilla latte was sweet and to my liking, and the toddy was very delicious as well. They do know what they're doing with their coffee! A bit pricey. Places to do work, but no outlets and slow WiFi.
google avatar

Sara K.

Yelp
Great location. It's extremely close to campus. I like to come here to do light studying in between my classes. There's a lot of tables available, but that doesn't mean it's easy to find a table for yourself. The place is usually packed especially in the afternoon. One thing I dislike about this location is that sometimes it smells like piss. It makes me nauseous whenever it has that weird smell. It's a great place to study if you want to get out of campus but still be close enough to campus for studying. I prefer the downtown location over this location though.

Andrew K.

Yelp
Be careful to close out your tab after ordering. I walked away to grab the coffee after ordering and the server immediately clicked to add an extra 25% to my credit card for tip. Not the best coffee either.
google avatar

Cristina T.

Yelp
Seriously the best coffee I've had so far. I really love that they make their caramel in-house, which gives their caramel latte super delicious. I mainly just order caramel lattes whenever I stop by, iced or hot. If you're a coffee lover who appreciates good coffee and a good atmosphere to study/work, definitely stop by. And if you do go often, ask for a punch card.

Yelp
I really love this Cafe Medici. It's probably the best of the bunch. Of course it's littered with caffeinated UT students, but if you go during off hours, you can find a great, quiet spot to get shit done. They have a floating seating area that is unlike any other coffee shop in Austin. It feels far removed from the chaotic downstairs. Every time I've been here the staff has been excellent. There's a lot of turnover for baristas, so I'm sure your luck will vary, but with all service industry workers - treat them with respect and you'll get it back. The one downfall is the parking situation. Aka: there is none. If you want to drive here, you better have your rabbits foot with you.
