Three Restaurants to Try This Weekend | Eater DC

"I maintain fierce loyalty for the hummus at this Alexandria spot and use it as a benchmark when trying new hummus shops, though my mention here was largely comparative rather than an in-depth recent visit. " - Eater Staff

This spot is the perfect one stop shop. You can get your groceries done, check out the bakery, and even get lunch all under the same roof. The grains and other dry groceries are reasonably priced. Everything seems authentic. The food is great. The staff is very kind. They have an area to eat your food, and the design of the store is intriguing and well thought out. I come here often to get food and study at one of the dining tables. I’m very grateful to be able to support an amazing, local, family-owned business like this.

The BEST pita bread I have had in NOVA! I have met people there that have driven hours on weekends to come and get it. They make it fresh every couple of hours. During the week they make wheat bread pita, but not on weekends. The store itself is small but well stocked and has a variety of products. They are a bit pricier than other local middle eastern stores. They also have a small kitchen you can order food from and a small dining area.

We were looking at cars on S. Pickett street in Alexandria and stumbled upon this place. It's a store, but has a food counter in the back of the store. Our lunch was fantastic. I was told by the car dealer that their breakfast is also great. It's about 30 min away from my home, but we'll be heading there again for sure! Really good!

Very cool grocery store... although a bit misleading by the name. Very interesting groceries from all around the world. Lots of baklava... we enjoyed our first time visit today

I love this place. I used to come here all the time back when I used to live in the area and I'm happy to see that this place is still a quality place to shop. Although I find some of their products on the expensive side, other things are very reasonable depending on what you're looking for. (For example: some bulk products that are weighed and packaged into bags there) But I mainly love this place for their prepared food - both from the refrigerated section and also freshly made behind the counter. I think the prices are very reasonable! 🤩 Today I ordered a falafel platter and I thought it was enough for two people. (See photo) It wasn't super crispy, but it was tasty and filling. It came with 5 falafel balls, parsley, tomatoes, picked beets, a big salad and a drink. Their spinach pies are also very authentically Lebanese and just look at the chocolate creme filled chocolate éclair! They are also all extremely nice there. You have got to try this place! 😉

Some of the best authentic middle eastern food I’ve ever had. Extremely clean and well organized. 10/10 👍👍 5 stars

We drove there yesterday, for more than 25 miles and had a shocking experience. This place is such a big disappointment. In a few words, it is overrated, way overpriced, pretentious, chaotic (if you ask for help for some item they don’t know where you can find it) and most importantly, not clean at all. And on top of it, they are cheating in a very peculiar way. First, I went to buy some pita bread and olives. At the olive section, I asked for the price of the green olives with pits. I was told that they are $9 per pound. Well, they seemed a little bit overpriced, but since we drove there for almost one hour from MD, I decided to buy one box of approximately one pound green olives with pits and one box same size of black olives. When we arrived home and opened the box I discovered that I was charged for pitted olives, which are $2 more expensive, and the olives that I got were of uneven quality. Please see the pictures below. Next, we went to order chicken gyro and to pay for the goods in our basket. When we wanted to pay with a Credit Card, I was told that the system was down and the cashier handed me an old-fashioned CD slip to sign. I signed it, but I was not given a copy of the receipt/slip. Upon my request to have a copy, I was given a copy. And the handwritten bill was not itemized. I am wondering how often this happens to them!. Please see the pictures below. Well, the next few issues were more than outrageous. The people behind the counter were very slow. Slower than snails. We waited for our order to come out for almost 15 min, and when we went to the so-called Caffe area to sit and have our lunch, that was a real disaster. The tables were filthy. It seemed they had not been cleaned for days. Gross! And now few more words on the fake chicken gyro. Yes, fake gyro without any taste. It was cold and prepared in a way gyro is not made anywhere in the Mediterranean world. Probably it was made a week before or frozen for a long time and sold to us, customers, as something special. No, there is nothing special or Mediterranean in that fake gyro. It was so bad that we could not eat it, and we had to leave it on the table. We left outraged. Please see the pictures. There were similar reviewsin the past by some custumers like this one, a year ago or something, and the owner responded that they would improve the service, but, obviously, nothing has changed so far. I don’t recommend this place to anyone. Avoid it!

While we've only tried the prepared foods at Mediterranean Bakery, it's really been fabulous. The selection of sweet and savory pastries are great... Get the savory ones warmed up if you want a quick bite. They're also really affordable. While we haven't gotten a lot from the hot food area yet, the flatbreads we've tried are so delicious. Again, really reasonable prices, they're ready quickly, and taste great. We've had the ground meat and the za'atar and cheese, but it's another area where I want to try more of what they have to offer. They're nearby for us and have quickly become a go-to when we want something different and not spend too much.
