TOWIE’s Gemma Collins and Arg Fell In Love Over Tayyabs’ Lamb Chops | Eater London

"An Italian restaurant just off Portobello Road in Notting Hill recognized for its distinctive décor and as a familiar local lunch spot; it recently served as the place where an actor learned of a major awards nomination, an emotional moment shared with his daughter." - Guy Pewsey

I've now eaten here twice, and as someone requiring a gluten-free diet, I have been so pleased with my experience at Mediterraneo. The first time, I had gluten-free cheese ravioli in their rose cream sauce which was delicious. When I ordered, our server automatically offered to put a gluten allergy note on my order. When I returned the second time, I ordered a gluten-free pizza with ricotta cheese, prosciutto, and artichoke which was as delicious as it sounds! Altogether, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone with or without gluten sensitivity!

Google
This is a nice Italian restaurant. The food is good and so is the staff. They remembered I didn’t want ice in my drink. The atmosphere is somewhat cafeteria, which isn't a serious issue.

Google
1st time me and my family ordered from here and we were very pleased with our meals, crab cakes were filled with crab meat although could have used a bit more Old Bay season for our taste. All together great place to eat. Will order again

Came in on a whim; staff was very friendly and helpful. Restaurant was very clean and inviting. As soon as you pull in to the parking lot, you can smell the hers and spices pouring out. I was in a rush; so I ordered the cheesesteak. Mannnnnnn.. the roll was super soft with a decent outer crust. Meat was nice and tender. I’m originally from Philly so this was a delight. Trying others around have been tough. I’ll for sure be back for the pasta.

Google
Excellent food, great service! My mother lives with. Walking distance and we often eat here when I visit — dining—in and carry out. Always excellent!

Google
This place does not get enough credit! We order from here a lot and the food is hands down amazing! Everyone is friendly food is delicious not one complaint from us! 100% recommend to anyone

Google
First visit & we were not disappointed! Fried green tomatoes are fantastic, I'll definitely be having them again. Our server Allison was really sweet too. But some music in the dining room would be great, its weirdly quiet.

Linda S.

Google
Alison was phenomenal. Best waitress in months. We enjoyed the Margarita pizza and took half of it home. Being too full for dessert, we ordered a limoncello cake to go. The Italian Margarita with a floater of Amaretta was the best. My mom and italian grandmother have always enjoyed dining here. I’m a fan now. I’ll be back.

Yelp
My wife and I dined here on a Saturday night. When we arrived, it was quite busy, but we got seated promptly. However, then we were forgotten for about 20 minutes until my wife went to the front to ask if anyone was going to serve us. It seems there may have been a misunderstanding amongst the wait staff as to whose table we were. Somewhat a sour start, but someone finally came over and service was prompt and friendly. We ordered calamari and cheesy bread for the appetizer. Great calamari--one of the best breading/fry we've had in a while. I was not a fan of the cheesy bread as I got a big bite of oil and my wife got a giant chunk of garlic in one of her pieces. For our mains, we ordered the fettuccini bolognese and veal Marsala. They leaned heavy on the sauce side--which I'm a huge fan of, but not everyone is. I usually find my Marsala dishes not having enough sauce/mushrooms, but that was not the case here! I enjoyed it and the leftovers heated up was just as tasty. My wife's bolognese was good as well but I think it was too much sauce for her. The leftover bag tipped on the drive home and much of the sauce dripped out, but you would've never known because there was still plenty left in the container! Both were maybe a tad salty and you could see the oil in the sauces, but overall flavor was very good. We receive our check and they were kind enough to take the calamari off because of earlier. We appreciated that gesture, as not all restaurants do when that issue happens. Because of their professionalism in the way they handled it, I would eat there again if we are ever in the area.

Ken G.

Yelp
We ate there last evening... there were 5 in our party! Four of us had Italian dishes which were excellent! My martini was weak and had not one olive! Shame on the bartender! Ambiance was dated... service was ok... we had to ask for dinner rolls! For the food, we would return!

Heather S.

Yelp
Try their pizza! We think it's the best in the area. Love their bread as well. Don't know much else about the menu because we always get.... the pizza. The owners are always friendly to us. Just go already!

Yelp
Sangria has no fruit Bread is not Italian Service is poor No sugar for iced tea had to ask hostess No lemon for iced tea House dressing very watery and strong vinegar that burned our throats Chicken parmigiana very small Tables close together tight squeeze. Salad dismal
google avatar

Mama T.

Yelp
We ordered their pizza with half pepperoni and sausage and the other half with onions and we loved it. Very tasty and not soggy at all. We also got the lobster ravioli and the the fettucine mediterraneo whcih were also good. Perhaps next time, we should try different sauced-pastas so we can try th other sauces, but the sauce was so good, my son was trying just scrape the sauce with his fork for the taste. It took a while to get our soda refill and we didn't get out takeout box straightaway after we requested it, but it was still an overall good eating experience. Nice family-friendly atmosphere and well-lit.

Cal S.

Yelp
Best Italian around great pizza and pasta. Waitresses are very helpful. Prices are reasonable.

Yelp
My family and I just moved to Westminster a month ago and have been shopping around for our go to pizza. Had heard good things about this place. Been twice now. First time my wife and I both got pizzas and they were delicious. Had ordered garlic knots and they ended up giving garlic cheese bread by mistake (bummed because I'm Team Garlic Knots and didn't realize until I got home), but i wasn't gonna let that affect my pizza judging. Tonight I stopped by to try the pasta - got the chicken parm - and I was more than impressed. Big portion too. Very fresh. Workers there have been nice and next time I'll sit at the bar or will get a table for my fam. Excited about this place being so close to our new home.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our meal and service! Authentic Italian food with generous portions. We'll be back!

Yelp
The ambiance is OK, but the food is fantastic. The crabcake is on point - one of the best I've ever had.

Tracey S.

Yelp
$20 for skinny chicken angel hair pasta and a weak very weak tomato sauce no sign of white wine in the sauce salad was sold as extra which was verbally told as with the entree Not happy for quality for price at all Now have massive stomach issues Service was vet mediocre

Peter G.

Yelp
we hadn't been to Mediterraneo in several years and decided to stop in for pizza. Before I get into a critique of the pizza, I have to commend the wait staff. They were attentive and courteous. The ambiance was fine, though empty for a Saturday night. The pizza on the other hand was not worth the visit or the price. The pie, while good sized, was poorly made and basically tasteless. The base crust of the pie was a wet limp piece of dough. It was far from crisp. The sauce had so much liquid, like a puree, that the pizza could not hold its shape when you picked up a slice. The toppings just slid off the crust. It is a shame but we will not be back.
google avatar

Kim J.

Yelp
Great, attentive service! Food was piping hot when it arrived to the table. Crab cake special on Tuesdays. Crab cakes are FULL of lump crab meat. I like more Old Bay but they are huge and great - Highly recommended! Old Bay wings were large but they were salty. Dinner rolls are good. Calzone was very cheesy.

Yelp
We've eaten here loads of times. I love the crab cake while my husband and family prefers the pizza and chicken parm. The owners are a family whom we've really enjoyed talking with.

Yelp
This is a tad late but went there on 4/1 Seated right away but service was extremely slow- waited almost 20 minutes for drinks to arrive - just iced tea then another 20 minutes for the waitress to take our dinner order - took another 30 minutes to get that Food was ok but overpriced for what was ordered- don't think I'll go back

Tj R.

Yelp
Great food and friendly service. I find Mediterraneo is a great restaurant to take family from out of town with a great variety of pasta to pizza and seafood.

Christine M.

Yelp
We used to go to Mediterraneo many times a year. This last visit will be our last visit. The hostess seated us at a table that needed to be wiped off and didn't have silverware or napkins. She gave us menu's and asked what we wanted to order. Gave her our drink orders. Came back with our drinks and took our order. Returned with rolls and butter, but no silverware or napkins. Brought our food, and my soup had spoons( asked for 2 spoons as I was sharing with my husband). Asked about silverware for my salad, and she did bring silverware for me, but not my husband. My salad had one grape tomatoe cut in half and some varied greens. The chicken was very plentiful. It was their speciality salad, and I really wanted more salad, peppers, tomatoes, feta cheese, olives... Greek salad. My husband's sandwich was hard to eat and he was sick overnight, and he only ate half the sandwich.

Renee L.

Yelp
Excellent! My large order was to be ready at 5:03. I arrived at that time, signed for my credit card charge and within a minute of arriving to pick up my order it was being placed on the counter in good order. The food got rave reviews at home, especially the crab cakes, Shrimp Chesapeake with rose cream sauce, Fettuccine Alfredo with Shrimp, and the rolls. Will be back again! Renee

Loriane B.

Yelp
Great food and great service !! we have had carry out and recently dined in. I am gluten free so often my options are limited. I was pleasantly surprised not only see options for gluten free pasta but also zuc noodles. I had the Shrimp Chesapeake with zuc noodles. It was served hot, a large portion and tasty with plenty of seafood and excellent marinara sauce. Highly recommended!

Kark K.

Yelp
All pre-Packaged not much is fresh. Had the Veal last night Veal patty was old deep fried until shoe leather, Tomato sauce was so salty Never again 3 of our party had the "Crab Cake" lots of crab meat but just a bland taste Never again stay away
google avatar

Victoria J.

Yelp
Always good food. The BEST Greek salad. Also a huge fan of the eggplant parmigiana and the crab cakes. Honestly never had a bad meal here.
google avatar

Jesse Y.

Yelp
The crabcakes here are pretty amazing. I see no need to go outside of this town for a good lumpy cake! Better than Rocksalt in my opinion. You also can't go wrong with a side of broccoli or meatballs or both if you feel wild! It was my favorite pizza in town also but has recently slipped down to number #2.

Suzy D.

Yelp
Highlights include their spaghetti with meat sauce, pizza, and believe it or not, crab cakes! Theirs rival any seafood restaurant in Maryland!

Susan L.

Yelp
We've lived in Westminster for a year. This quickly became our go-to pizza take-out place because of their deals -- and tasty pies. Last week I went for a change of pace and got chicken parmagian for my take-out. I'm glad I did. It was a generous flavorful double portion of chicken with the typical spaghetti with sauce side and a warm crusty roll. And the price was a couple dollars less than most Italian restaurants. After reading these reviews, I'm anxious to try the crabcakes!

Annabelle M.

Yelp
Would give 0 stars if possible. Came here for a birthday celebration with 6 people. Every person besides one ordered pasta. Every pasta dish was absolutely repulsive as well as overpriced. Within 30 minutes of consuming the mediterraneo fettuccine I was feeling the affects of FOOD POISONING. I had clams in my meal that tasted sour, the scallops and crab meat were also cold and soggy. My mother got the same dish as me and refused to eat it because it tasted so horrible. Another member got a veal pasta dish and didn't eat theirs either because it tasted so sour and vinegar-ry. Another ordered the shrimp Alfredo and again, did not eat it because of how disgusting the taste was as well as the shrimp. We also tried the $15 cream of crab soup which again, was NOT eaten because of how horrifying it tasted. Even the Greek salad tasted old and the balsamic dressing was repulsive. Nothing we received was acceptable to serve to customers let alone worth the prices we paid. I paid $27 for food poisoning and the birthday was ruined. When the servers heard me throwing up in the bathroom all of them ran to the kitchen to hide and refused to come out until we left. Not offering money off our check or anything to fix their mess. This place should be shut down and absolutely not allowed to serve its customers the food that it does. I'm absolutely horrified that this place is still open and they are still serving food poisoning to their customers. Save your money and health and do not support this sickening business. Health inspector will be involved ASAP.

Yelp
The customer service has been good and the wait staff has always been friendly, no complaints there. I've been here twice and been disappointed both times by the food. I got a panini sandwich one time which just had very little taste. This past week i ordered the Chicken Marsala and was not impressed. The chicken was overcooked and Marsala sauce tasted like jarred brown gravy. Maybe the pizza or some other items are good but I don't think I'll be returning.

Romi A.

Yelp
One of my favorites. Our go to for our anniversary dinner with the shrimp Vesuvius. I love their crème of crab, fried green beans and crab cakes. The crab is full of lumpy meat with little to no fillers. There's nothing I don't like. I definitely recommend!!.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in Westminster! Real Italian food made by people who care about your experience. Don't give your money to that chain Italian place in town!! Go here instead! The pizza is great, the ravioli is better, and the crab cake is absolutely better than any other place in Carroll County-I've tried them all. Service here is usually very good and the price is on point. We go here on the regular now as it is consistently a great place to eat!

Mary P.

Yelp
I went for the first time yesterday. Food and service were good. (We got an apology any time something was taking a little longer). Our waitress (I think she said her name was Heavenly) was very sweet, and on top of things. We were told the fettuccine noodles are freshly made by the chef. My only complaint is that it's pretty pricey for what you get. The pasta dishes don't come with any sides - you have to pay extra for salad or another vegetable. I would go back, though.

Lorraine B.

Yelp
Been coming here for a long time and as far as I'm concerned it has the best Itslian food in the county! Service I'd good too!

Matt D.

Yelp
Went to Mediterraneo for the first time the other day. I've had their pizza before at family or friend get togethers and it's decent. I got chicken parm in the restaurant. The chicken and cheese was good, but it was covered in one of those cheap disgusting orange sauces. For a real Italian it was rather nasty. This makes me not want to return to get any pasta dishes.

Richard A.

Yelp
Moved to the westminster are back in September. I've loved every restaurant I've eaten at so far, Expect for this one. I honestly don't know where to start. But, I'll try and start with the "starters" (sigh). My wife and I got the calamari and "fried Green tomatoes", the calamari was frozen rubbery and flavorless crap. The fried green tomatoes (SIGH), these had to have been the worst food I've ever hade. If I was in prison, this would be the food I'd expect to get if I got locked into solitary confinement. Okay, now for the entrees, or whatever they were. I got the gnocchi (frozen) it was drenched in some flavorless tomato sauce and more cheese then the state of Chicago Illinois, tasting like nothing. Good thing I have seasoning at my house. My wife got the shrimp scampi, I asked her if she ordered soup. It had more oil running through it then the Keystone XL pipeline. This place should take the saying "it's not delivery, it's digiorno" because everything here it's frozen and not good.

Loren D.

Yelp
We often get carry out from this family owned Italian restaurant. You can tell it is family owned because the food is so good they must put their heart and soul into each dish! Everything we have ever ordered has been great, they even cater to gluten free folks- thank you!

Ron G.

Yelp
My wife came upon this place accidentally and discovered a gem of a restaurant. We were presented fresh rolls which were tasty. Than my wife ordered a 12 inch pizza with black olives , which was served piping hot. I got the seafood marina which included fresh shrimp, crab meat, mussels and clams served over zucchini spaghetti, which is great for us who are watching our carbs. We will definitely return
google avatar

Lee M.

Yelp
Not real good and fairly expensive for actual dinner entrees other than pizza or subs. As parents of a local college student we have usually had mediocre experiences in Westminster so this was pretty much par for the course.
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
Doesn't deserve any stars. The people that work there are money hungry taking orders and money when they know they can't fill them.
google avatar

McKayla B.

Yelp
I moved here from NJ and had a hard time finding pizza like home. This is it! The pizza is delicious, and they have great deals. Love this place, finally found my pizza shop
google avatar

Tarhy A.

Yelp
I've chosen to revisit this place and it's proved to be certainly a good choice. What I'm about to drop on you was all take out. Their onion rings were great...shocked since most times you get these little beauties home (from other places) and they are soggy. Not the case here. I also ate half an Italian Sub (all the way) which was really good. The other choice was half of a cheesesteak which I NEVER eat. Glad I did because this cheesesteak (all the way) was totally delicious. I also opted for grilled chicken on-top of their Greek Salad with their house dressing...yeah it's good. What I need to do is go back in there and fatten up on their homemade Gelato over the summer. Yeah it's happening and my belt, when I actually wear one, will have to get used to me using another hole up. Sorry belt
google avatar

Abigail R.

Yelp
Came here for a work lunch. They have lunch portions which were filling. I got the shrimp Alfredo, and the shrimp were huge. The others ordered lasagna, eggplant parm sandwich, and chicken Marsala. The homemade bread rolls were awesome. You could taste they were fresh. Everyone left full and happy. Would definitely come back.
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Overall best in Westminster for me - food is always amazing - friendly staff - top notch authentic Italian food - can't say enough good stuff about this place. Visited maybe 15 or more times
google avatar

Ashley T.

Yelp
I had a lunch meeting there just the other day, and it was great! I ordered a turkey panini, which was generous enough to last me two days for lunch! It was very delicious and the bread was amazing. The service was quick and friendly, and the restaurant was clean and tidy. I highly recommend!

Deanna M.

Yelp
The food was hot and tasted good, but there was a delay in getting the food. It took longer than it really should have. People in tables around in, who arrived after us received their door prior to us. We did not have anything complicated either. The waitress was attentive, and brought drinks quickly, and kept them refilled without asking. This is a first time for us coming here, may give it another shot. Hopefully it will be quicker next time.

Yelp
So I really wanted to like this place. I've heard many good things about the pizza and thought ok, let's do it! I should have stuck to just the pizza. I hate to complain and I rarely write reviews. That being said... We sat outside and it was a cute little set up, quiet. Our waiter was nice and we ordered a crab dip, Greek salad, cheese pizza. I decided on the shrimp fra diavlo which I have had many times in other restaurants and honestly was reluctant to order but the waiter suggested it so I thought ok! Let me say I have worked in the restaurant business for 25 years. I've waited tables, bartended, managed, even worked in the kitchen. I have pretty low expectations for Westminster restaurants just because I know it's just small town and not a lot of great options. But the crab dip was a weird consistency, the cheese was separating and there was a lot of oil but we ate it anyway. Until I bit into something I initially thought was a shell (btw, very little crab meat) but was actually a piece of plastic. I understand stuff like this happens and i didn't make a big deal about it. The waiter immediately had it taken off the check. The salad was fine and the pizza was very good but my shrimp dish was a tomato sauce, so I assumed it would be a lighter, healthier option. However it was swimming In oil. That too was separating which is always a red flag to me. If I wanted fattening and oily I would have gotten the scampi. The waiter dropped the food and didn't come back till the end. I ate 3 shrimp and a bite of pasta but I just didn't like anything about the dish. When he did come back at the end of the meal He said "sorry, that's how our marinara is here" He explained that the tomato sauce was different but the marinara is made with oil. Then gave us the check. That's when I got upset, there was no offer for dessert and he didn't even ask if he should take the pasta off the bill. My husband asked him to remove it and he did but wouldn't have had we not asked. I know it's Westminster and it's a pizza place but as a restaurant manager myself I'd never let my server charge for a meal the customer a) didn't like or b) didn't eat! So we won't be going back but now we know
google avatar

Matt A.

Yelp
Disappointing. Website is unclear. ALL orders were prepared wrong. Calamari was soggy. Was expecting much higher quality cuisine. Overpriced cheap quality food. This is the kind of Italian food you can get anywhere. Nothing special here.
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
I have really been digging this place more and more. It is a really nice family that makes good food and the wife and I have this one on the go to list if it was a long day and we want Italian.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about our Takeout meal for my birthday. The Chef made me an entree that is not a regular on their menu but is sometimes offered as a Special: clams with rigatoni in cream sauce. My husband ordered the chicken parmigiana. Both entrees were delicious and the portions generous enough for ample leftovers. We both had a house salad that had fresh ingredients and tasty dressing (Parmesan peppercorn). The homemade rolls that came with the meal are always memorable. So glad I chose this restaurant for my birthday dinner! They did not disappoint. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Wednesday night pizza special for carry out is great. The pizza is very good and the service is nice.

Yelp
Friendly, great customer service while serving genuine quality Italian food! Primos! Each experience one which makes customer happy--dependably tasty food!

Liam I.

Yelp
Love Mediterraneo, good food, good service, even better prices. The one problem I have is that the cheese is falling off of the pizza as I grab a slice!! It is still good, I just don't want a glob of cheese in the middle of the box after the pie is done.
google avatar

Yelp
Been here twice, first time the service was ok- slow, barely came around but the food was good. 2nd time we came here, we ended up walking out. We waited 15 minutes and no one ever came to our table to even offer us water, the final straw was when, the table that got sat well after us, got drinks and put in their food order before anyone came to our table at all. I want to like this place, but unfortunately the service leaves a lot to be desired.
