6 Halal-Friendly Restaurants in Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Triangle | Eater Carolinas

"Mediterranean meets the Phillipines at Mediterrasian Bistro, where the menu features dishes like chicken adobo and lumpia alongside falafel wraps, tabouli salads, and lamb shawarma. The kabob mishakel for two to four people is a great choice for groups, and fans of Filipino desserts will be happy to see halo-halo on the menu. The entire menu is mostly, but not completely halal, so make sure to ask the server when ordering." - Matt Lardie

Stopped here on June 26 after a workout with my personal trainer. Picked up lunch for my husband and I. There was plenty of parking outside and finding the location was not too hard. Ordering was easy but was not sure where to wait as the food was being prepared so after standing and browsing for a bit, I finally just sat down in a booth and waited. The chicken was very very good and I will buy that again. The soup was OK but not my husband's taste. I had the best Greek salad when I was in Greece a few weeks ago. I'll stop again if I'm in the area and try some other things on the menu. Mebane has a wonderful Mediterranean restaurant on Hwy 119 as well.

I like this place, especially for access to Filipino cooking locally. Options are limited in that regard. The lumpia was good, my shrimp pancit was excellent. In my trips I've tried the chicken adobo, worth the trip and the beef steak wasn't bad. I was a bit disappointed in the texture but it's the first time I've had that dish, so it's likely my expectations were wrong, not the cooking. It wasn't terrible by any means. The rice was, of course, very enjoyable. I tried the beef and lamb shawarma on this latest visit and enjoyed it as well. There's always something else to try out and I'm discovering new dishes to try every visit. If you have any interest in getting a sample of a very good but very underrepresented communities' meals I recommend you try them out.

I live in Charlotte so when I’m in town I love to stop here and get some home cooking. I wish had something similar in Charlotte! I love this place 😋

This Durham, North Carolina restaurant serves both Asian and Mediterranean food. The meal is delicious, and the restaurant has a great atmosphere.

Google
A hidden gem! The food here is incredible — especially the Filipino Barbecue Chicken, which is hands-down the best I've ever had. Perfect spot if you're looking for amazing flavors in a cozy, laid-back setting. Highly recommend!

Google
We had a great time eating here! The shawarma, pancit, and falafel wrap were all super tasty, we loved everything we ordered. Jen took our order and was really awesome. She made sure we had everything we needed and even went out of her way to get her umbrella from her car and lent it to us when it started raining. That was such a kind gesture. Great food and amazing service, we’ll definitely be back!

Google
The food is amazing! I been looking for a Filipino Food in Durham NC I am so glad to discover this place. The Lumpia, Pancit and Beef Steak Filipino style tastes so good and the meet is tender. #happytummy

Google
Extremely friendly staff, delicious Filipino chicken BBQ sticks, lumpia, and chicken shawarma with very large portion sizes when it comes to rice! Visited with family from the Philippines, and the owner was incredibly kind and accommodating when ordering at the counter, and bringing the dishes to the table. Unique establishment where you can get both authentic Filipino comfort food like adobo & Filipino beef steak, plus Mediterranean dishes.

Yelp
Great food - we ordered barbecue chicken skewers with basmati rice and side of chicken soup and gyro salad. Everything came out fresh, moist and delicious! Will definitely eat here again!

Chloe L.

Yelp
This place is great in my opinion! The lumpia is delicious, the Gyro is very good. I've ordered from this restaurant many times and will continue to do so. Food is packed well.

Yelp
Got the rice noodles and their chicken skewers. This place is amazing and well priced. We've also catered with them for parties, and the food is always fresh and hot. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
I'll be upfront, I didn't know what to expect with this combination but I was pleasantly surprised. Ambiance: 3.5/5 - Plenty of booths to sit in but not much decor and I saw a lot more people getting food for takeout rather than eating in. Pricing: 5/5 - the portions are fantastic for the price! The grilled lamb platter was $16 which came with rice, pita and one side. Food: 4/5 - The lumpia is a must have here. The cauliflower side was flavorful and I enjoyed the lamb although it was a bit chewy. Rice were a tad dry but nothing too crazy. Service: 5/5 - Friendly staff and food came out super quick!

Yelp
MediterrAsian Bistro is very clean, humble and plain looking, which makes the food the star. Their name sounds like they would have a mix of the two cuisines in their offerings. Instead, Mediterranean food is on one side of the menu, and Asian on the other. I wondered if one cuisine would be better, but we really liked both. Order and pay at the counter, and they'll quickly bring your food to the table. Our food came on huge ceramic plates with Mickey Mouse embossed on them! My friend enjoyed his huge plate of garlic fried rice with chicken (he ate the whole thing!), and I thought my chicken kabob platter with rice, grape leaves and falafel was at least as good as I've had at any other Mediterranean restaurant in the area. Prices are about what you'd expect to pay, and the portion sizes were large.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem in a sea of fast food and chain restaurants. MediterrAsian has a very nondescript storefront with a eclectic menu consisting of Mediterranean staples with some Filipino specialties. The inside is equally low key. You order at the counter & they bring the food to you. Since good Filipino food is hard to find in this area, we decided to order some of their specialties. We ordered a lumpia appetizer, chicken adobo & the bbq chicken skewers. Lumpias were a generous portion and came out piping hot with sweet chili dipping sauce. Filling was very flavorful. Chicken adobo was a generous portion served with jasmine rice and strangely, tabbouleh salad. It was flavorful and well made. The stand-out dish was the BBQ chicken skewers. You get 3 generous skewers of well marinated dark meat chicken. The flavor was reminiscent of Chinese BBQ pork (char siu) and had a wonderful slightly charred flavor. It was absolutely delicious! This was also served with jasmine rice and tabbouleh salad. Will definitely be keeping this on our list of go-to places!

Yelp
I noticed this spot when I was out shopping and decided to give it a try. I enjoy Asian food and this place offers a lot of different options. Customer service was cool and the inside is a little outdated but the food is the star! I ordered filipino adobo chicken and it was incredibly delicious. It was hot, fresh and full of flavor. I'll definitely be back soon to try other menu items

Chris F.

Yelp
Good mix of Mediterranean and Filipino food. I grew up in the Philippines so I'm always on lookout for good tasting Pinoy food and this place doesn't disappoint. The pansit (noodles) and chicken BBQ were delicious. Will go back.
google avatar

Catherine C.

Yelp
Always delicious food choices. Satisfies my Filipino food craving with Mediterranean food also if I choose I wish their buffet would come back. I make a point to eat here whenever I visit the area.

Thomas G.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch and was very satisfied with the wrap and hummus. Place is not fancy, but good stop for lunch
google avatar

Diana L.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for lunch go check out their Filipino dishes. I had never tried Filipino cuisine before and was quite impressed. The portions were large and the flavors were great! We had ordered lumpia, pancit, chicken adobo, and bistek. Some of the meat was dry but I felt that was compensated by flavor. My favorite is definitely lumpia. It's a great place for takeout and casual dine in. The service at the ordering counter was great and the woman who helped us was very kind. Otherwise there wasn't really service since it was more of a take-out place than a dine in restaurant. It's great comfort food and I would definitely return when I'm craving Filipino food.
google avatar

Jaclyn N.

Yelp
The food is always delicious whether dine in, pick up, or delivery. I recommend the gyro, eggplant, cauliflower, and fried plantains. Their hummus is also delicious, but I love the garlic in the other veggies. I give it five stars for food and would only take .5 off if I could for atmosphere. The restaurant has so much potential to be bigger than it is.
google avatar

Yelp
3 chicken barbecue skewers with rice for $14 = not worth it. Menu is unique mix of Filipino and Mediterranean but neither excels in quality. Also eating Halo Halo - there might've been an insect in it - no kidding. Also curry chicken before and chicken was so dry! Sad that is the only Filipino restaurant in the area.

Yelp
Tl;dr: Masarap! Naimas! DELICIOUS! Just moved to the area from Portland, OR so I was nervous about finding a filipino restaurant since I was used to being spoiled by the vast array of food carts and restaurants in Portland. I did not have to worry because this place was just down the road from where we moved to. My (very filipino) parents came with me to help us move so we decided that we wanted to eat some filipino food after a long road trip across the country. Upon walking in, my parents felt very good about the restaurant because you can always smell good food before you eat it. The wonderful woman who took our order pegged us for being filipino almost immediately so my parent's comfort level increased ever more so. We got a variety of different dishes including lumpia, sinigang (hot an sour soup), beef and lamb gyro, and two delhi kebab plates. The hot and sour tamarind soup was the best my mom has ever tasted (second to her own, of course). Even on a hot day in Durham, it "hit the spot". The beef and lamb gyro was the perfect size and had the perfect ratio of filling to sauce to protein. The delhi kebab plates came with two sides. My dad and I area basically the same person so we both got the same two sides: adobo rice and plantains. The platter is served with basmati rice, but we're filipino so of course we could eat even more rice. Everything was tasty and well seasoned. The meat was not dry, and the portions were large. We had enough for dinner later! The staff (family?) that work there are amazing and very welcoming. Treat them well, because they are treating you to a very delicious meal. EAT HERE, and go back soon.

Yelp
This restaurant is close to our new house but we had never tried it until recently. It's kind of odd to see a place that serves both Mediterranean and Filipino food, but just pick one and go with it. You order and pay at the counter, and they'll bring your food out when it's ready. I ordered chicken adobo and my wife got a Greek salad. I've only had homemade adobo in a crockpot so I don't have a lot to compare it to. The flavor was good but I was kind of put off by the basically raw onions it came with -- I would have preferred them cooked some more. It is a small mom and pop shop, and they were trying to hire some help. Prices were reasonable. We'll consider them again.

Yelp
Overall disappointing except for the tzatziki which didn't taste like paste! I wish I could say the same for the rest. I had the gyro and the falafel was over cooked and hard as a rock. The fattoush could have used more marinade and there was no torn up pieces of pita in it. I tried the Filipino rice noodles and it looked nothing like the photo which showed vegetables in it but this was just a clump of congealed bland noodles that were unsavory and unappealing due to the sticky texture. Granted, I didn't try a lot of things so maybe the other items are better but the vegetarian items I had don't warrant another try, at least for me.
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
I stopped by to grab lunch bc I was in the area. In an effort to sample a few different options, I got the veggie platter. I ordered the eggplant, cauliflower, and hummus. I also ordered some baklava and sadly, they failed to put it in the to go packaging that I requested. The eggplant was my least favorite but really enjoyed the cauliflower. The hummus and pita bread were also really good!

Deterion M.

Yelp
Y'all better get some adobo chicken. It was very good. I was licking on the bay leaves
google avatar

Lilly W.

Yelp
If you ever just want a taste of an Asian mom's cooking, please check out MediterrAsian Bistro. Their chicken adobo with rice is so flavorful! My absolute favorite is their chicken egg rolls (chicken lumpia). I could literally eat my weight in them if nobody stopped me. Their chicken and ginger soup is absolutely delicious as well-- perfect for a cold night. They have their seating spaces out for social distancing, but their food is just as delicious to-go. :)

Yelp
Great service in quality of food, speed, and accuracy of order taking. Every time I have visited the staff is working hard to get food out of the door. Even if there are instances when they are busy and could be struggling to meet a high demand on a Friday, you see them hustling to get your food ready quickly. Never do you see anyone resting on their laurels or playing around whenever the line is long. This business is serious and professional when it comes to service, execution, and delivery.
google avatar

Melanie B.

Yelp
The Greek salad had little to no feta cheese, the tomatoes were old, and maybe 3 black olives (not kalamatas). The chicken shawarma was not good, had like 3/4 crinkle cut fries stuffed in it, the tzatziki was more like Mayo. This is not greek food. Also left my side off of my to go order. Large Greek salad and chicken shawarma for $26, bad deal.
google avatar

Kaitlyn R.

Yelp
Definitely an odd looking menu but the place smelled incredible. I got the lamb and beef gyro platter and everything was delicious. Took it to go and grabbed some drinks at Sam's. A little confusing about where and how to order but the food was great.

Katie G.

Yelp
So I thought I ordered a gyro wrap but I received gyro meat over rice. However it was delicious! The beef and lamb meat was so good and so was the rice. The humus was just okay. I added some paprika to my humus which gave it some more flavor. The pita bread was good. I also ordered the chicken spring roll appetizer which was also really good. I'll be back to hopefully try the gyro wrap with Taziki sauce!
google avatar

Yelp
I tried MediterrAsian Bistro for dinner not long ago (via Doordash) and was very happy with my meal. All I had was a small Greek salad with gyro meat, pita bread, and the grilled BBQ chicken skewer appetizer. The meat on the skewers (you get five) was absolutely awesome -- just the right amount of sauce and charcoal. They tasted like they had just come off of a backyard grill -- so good that I can't wait to try MediterrAsian Bistro again just to savor another order of them. The menu overall is a mix of Mediterranean and Filipino specialities -- based on my experience I don't think you can wrong with anything on it, and I'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Deniece R.

Yelp
Not a fusion restaurant. Not a Buffet. There's a Mediterranean menu and a Filipino menu. Both were good with a lot of flavor. Slight change from traditional flavors of each. Chefs are Filipino with a background in Mediterranean cooking. Healthy portions.
google avatar

Ethan A.

Yelp
Great food and value for the price. I got the chicken kebob platter (pictured) with the grape leaves and hummus on the side. The rice was delicious and the hummus was some of the best that I have had. I have had the hummus here in the past and it wasn't as good so it seems to be hit or miss. I also ordered the filipino chicken adobo which comes with plenty of chicken and rice - enough for 2 meals. The flavor is amazing and this is one of my favorite items on the menu. Due to COVID, I ordered via phone and it took about 20 mins for it to be ready. Not sure if curbside is offered, but I went inside to pick it up and it was a pretty quick process.
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
Food was great so I would say five stars for the food. The ambience laughed a lot. So I knocked off one star. All in all great place to get Mediterranean food

S K.

Yelp
Fantastic variety of flavors! From flavorful kebabs and tasty hummus to noodles and fried rice, this place will cover a wide variety of food you will find across Asia. Give them a try!
google avatar

Kris F.

Yelp
Clean in there and staff was friendly. However, I was disappointed with the falafel hummus wrap. Overall, it had a slightly bitter flavor and was not enjoyable to eat. I felt like I was eating it more so to avoid wasting my money and less because it actually tasted good. I was shocked to find that the fried cauliflower is served cold, which makes it less appealing to me(I ordered over the phone after looking at the menu online, somehow I must've missed that detail). The plantains were of the right ripeness and cooked well, but they aren't worth me going back. My guess is that their Asian style food is better than the Mediterranean offerings, but I don't think I'll be going back to find out.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious Arabic/Filipino food. It was a pleasant surprise for the one day we spent in Raleigh.
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Excellent meal, I had the Red curry with shrimp and brown rice. A generous portion that was absolutely delicious. One of the best Thai curry's that I have eaten.

Yelp
I have never had such different experiences. My office gets this place catered very frequently and everyone loves it. So I enthusiastically brought my dad here for lunch one Saturday. What a mistake that turned out to be... We came in right after 12pm so we were some of the first customers of the day. All of my favorite dishes from catering were on the buffet but they were all cold, clearly prepared some time other than today. The eggplant was shockingly cold, as was the cauliflower. The chicken skewers were warm but had a very strange rubbery texture. The noodles were room temperature. The tabouleh and baklava were fine, but not particularly fresh. It was scary how all of these items were sitting on a steam table. My dad used to be in the restaurant business and he said it was a health code violation to throw cold food on a steam table to heat up slowly- that's how bacteria grows and people get sick. I thought if catering was good the restaurant itself must be amazing. How wrong I was. So unfortunate but I won't be back, my opinion of them will be forever changed, and I just hope I don't get sick!
google avatar

Chris K.

Yelp
There is some weirdness with the name of this place - it's otherwise listed as "Baba Ghannouj Mediterranean Bistro", but this and that are the same place. Recently got some Door Dash delivery from here, and it was surprisingly good. Prices are very reasonable and the selection was really quite nice. The hummus is super flavorful, always a good sign. Opted for the Curry Chicken Platter with basmati rice, and was very impressed. The curry chicken was fall apart tender and crazy flavorful. Really could have kept eating it, despite there being more than I could/should have eaten in one sitting. Will definitely be back to try more here!
google avatar

Randy G.

Yelp
Wonderful spot for a mix of Asian & Mediterranean food. Most may not be aware that a lot of muslims live in the Philippines; which has created a cool blend of foods. This is a great place to explore and the prices are SUPER affordable. Great customer service and clean. Before COVID-19, there was a buffet option, but now is all take out and some dine in.
google avatar

Julia Z.

Yelp
Came back to order halo halo(yum!) , also ended up ordering food from the menu: beef bistek. That dish was very flavorful, although the meat was on the dry side, but it was still a delicious meal.
google avatar

Marianne M.

Yelp
What a gem! This place is absolutely delicious. I cannot wait to return (frequently) positioned next to shiki sushi and bean traders it's easy to come often! We ordered from the buffet since everything looked fresh and hot. Highlights - Filipino chicken skewers -plantains -coconut ginger chicken soup -chicken spring rolls -Taziki sauce and gyro meat -fried eggplant Seriously so yum! I noticed the menu had changed between Weekend and weekday and included falafel and grape leaves midweek! When doing take out try to get the veg wrap with EXTRA garlic sauce. It's really phenomenal! The eggplant and cauliflower are so well seasoned. And although fried we never feel heavy after
google avatar

Yara A.

Yelp
Love the combination of Philippino and middle-eastern cuisine! Never seen such a combo before but they definitely are a success! Ive ordered a few times from here and they have impressed every single time! Although, as a true middle eastern by blood, I should say their hummus is not the best. However, you definitely should try their fried eggplant- délicieux!!
google avatar

Sania M.

Yelp
I was surprised by the Filipino-component of this restaurant. I walked in to grab a shawarma Dan's was happily surprised by the buffet of Filipino and Arabic cuisine. I will admit I am writing this review after eating here 3-4 times including once today. It's really good... particularly the bbq chicken on the skewers. Get the bbq chicken on the skewers!
google avatar

Angel T.

Yelp
Kinda stumbled across this place on accident and glad I did. I have been wanting Filipino for a while now and it's no an Asian cuisine as readily available as Chinese or Japanese so when I saw they had a lunch buffet I was like let's do it!!! The chicken adobo was so yummy with the perfect amount of vinegar flavor. The grilled chicken skewer was also delicious although some pieces were over cooked others were perfectly delicious. The lumpia was also decent as well as the pancit. In true buffet fashion I sampled mostly everything. In conclusion I think the Filipino portion outshines the Mediterranean portion, especially with places like Med Deli around although the baklava was pretty good. I'll definitely be back here because the food was really good and the price is reasonable. If I didn't get the buffet I'd get the adobo entree and experiment with the desserts. (Also the staff was really friendly).
google avatar

Siobahn G.

Yelp
This was my first time trying MediterrAsian Bistro. I went during lunch and found that they have a delicious buffet. I don't normally like buffet meals but almost everything I tried was delicious. They provide and prepare Asian/Thai and Mediterranean style dishes. I will definitely come back but I look forward to seeing what else is offered besides the buffet.
google avatar

Corey T.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing if you're a foodie! Greens, BBQ Phillipino chicken, veggie and chicken spring rolls, baklava desert, curry chicken, and the chicken adobo, gyro lamb meat was good.
google avatar

Jillery Ellen S.

Yelp
This was my first time and I think I'll do a better job with my choices next time. I had the grilled lamb platter and I found the lamb very dry. I had a surgery and if items are too dry I end up . The cauliflower was a good side but I expected it to be hot. The falafel was ok but i should have ordered a sauce for it. The fazuka salad was very good. The beef platter was moist and flavorful. The summer rolls are fried...my BF was thinking they were summer rolls... So he bad. Lol. The staff is sweet and friendly and bonused me with a soda. I see they have a filopeno fish dish a guy was eating on my way out... And I def want to try that!! I simmered the lamb and let it get softer so that's good. Maybe the chicken is better for me. Next time I'm sure EVERYTHING will be great and my review score will go up. Clean place. Wore masks.
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
I decided to get take out from here since the new reviews all sounded great. I didn't like the old mediterranean place that used to be located here, but seems like recently they have changed it up into a new restaurant and now it's a mix of Asian and mediterranean food. They do have a buffet which looked good but I would recommend that for a dine in option. This is a good quick place for take out. I called ahead my order and it was ready for pick up in 10 minutes. I got the chicken gyro and made it into a combo. The prices are good and it's worth it to try out a side and get a drink. I got the hummus as my side and it came with extra pita. Even though they just fill one tiny side of the container with hummus, it is actually a big serving of hummus. I couldn't even finish it all and have some for leftovers! The chicken gyro was also huge and stuffed with a lot of chicken. It was hot and fresh. Next time I would probably ask for the tzatziki sauce on the side because there was a little too much in the wrap for me.
google avatar

Mic S.

Yelp
So this is a Mediterranean/Filipino restaurant. From that knowledge alone, I had to try it! It's not a typical culinary combo. Combo, as in NOT fusion. Don't expect chicken adobo gyros (although that does sound tasty). My bewildered tastebuds aside, I appreciated the variety that MediterrAsian had available. I went in for the Sunday buffet. There were staples of each cuisine: Filipino like pancit and kare kare and Mediterranean like schwarma and hummus. The dessert bar was severely lacking: the fried banana spring roll and churro were cold and greasy and there were those weird little tasteless cakes that you often find at Chinese buffets. Nevertheless, when you're in the mood for an atypical lunch, MediterrAsian bistro is a solid go to.
google avatar

Debbie P.

Yelp
I was very excited about trying this place since I had never eaten Filipino food before. I had the chicken adobo which I won't order again because the chicken was extremely dry. My husband had the lamb platter & thought it was really good. We shared a order of lumpia which was delicious! Will likely try this restaurant again because there were other Filipino dishes on the menu that sounded very tasty.
google avatar

Erin S.

Yelp
I just chanced upon this place after shopping at Sprouts a few doors down. I got two things: 1) chicken BBQ is SO good! Juicy & tender and perfectly seasoned. 2) chicken adobo was a bit dry. The ladies there were very nice though and I'd be happy to go back and try more dishes!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is amazing!! I've been coming here since they had their old name "Baba Ghannouj". My go to item is the Chicken Philly wrap.. it is soooo tasty!! The combo with fries is a great deal. Another favorite of mine are the gyros. I'm Greek so I am picky when it comes to finding good Mediterranean food! The food and service here are great- I highly recommend!

D K.

Yelp
We were shopping in the Southpointe area on a Saturday afternoon. We wanted something different for dinner. Thanks to Yelp for steering us right again. We love Mediterranean food and have wished for an AYCE option. Could hardly believe it when we saw the buffet option for $10.99 adults and $6.99. It's small, not a million buffet options but everything I tried was great. In particular we liked the Asian noodles, chicken skewers, lamb beef gyro meat, stuffed grape leaves, eggplant, Greek salad, hummus and tzatziki sauce. There was a good drink selection but it was charged extra. Yummy baklava dessert was included and we ate a lot! If you like good Mediterranean food you know it's hard to get a non buffet meal for $11. I'm excited to add this yummy option to our regular Southpointe dining favorites. Would recommend.
google avatar

Bruce G.

Yelp
So Mediterranean and Fillipino together is kind a strange combination, but I like strange so I thought I would give MediterrAsian Bistro a shot. As others have mentioned the buffet is pretty small. I tried a sampling from both sides of the ethnic ocean. The Fillipino chicken on a stick was ok, maybe a little overcooked in my opinion. The plantains were good, as was the rice. On the Med side, I liked the eggplant. The falafel was just ok as was the bread. There are definitely better places in the area strictly for Med food. Overall, not bad, and definitely a unique combination, but they might just want to expand the Fillipino part of the cuisine since that is the more unique of the two around these parts.

Kamiya B.

Yelp
Food was really good. I ordered the curry chicken with rice and grape leaves. The grape leaves tasted similar to collar greens and were really tasty. The curry chicken came with steamed rice but I would recommend basmati instead. I'd also recommend getting some cucumber sauce to put on top of the chicken!
