Meena Rice Based Cuisine

"Don’t be alarmed when you pass through a rice field driving here, as this hidden gem is worth it. As its name suggests, this alfresco restaurant specialises in rice, alongside new spins on Thai classics. Most are garnished with fruits and edible flowers, giving them bursts of colour. Along with the five-colour rice balls, northern-style spicy minced fish salad is a delight. Vegans will enjoy their many options, including the spicy stir-fried eryngii mushrooms." - Michelin Inspector

The food taste good, it's Michelin winner past few years. We love the hung lay, pot of healthy color rice, fried cows lip veg. Tips: They have air con room away from mosquitoes bite, only 6 tables available so call to reserve in advance for dinner.

This restsurant is amazing. The setting is beautiful with the trees, lights, water etc. Seating outside and also small inside area with AC. Food, service and presentation was lovely.

My wife and I went to try this restaurant out since I am a foodie and a cook. The food was no point! We order three items and some drink. The fried king mushrooms were delicious and not so oily, we also had the chicken curry with roti. The chick and potato was so soft and tender that it broke apart with just the touch of your fork or spoon. The Roti was light and airy not so oily. We also had fresh veggies with a tomato paste and minced pork. My wife had a brown rice smoothie drink and I had a pineapple strawberry mint detox drink. The final bill was also great we spent about 950 baht for the whole meal and drinks. We will definitely be back and encourage others to try it out. They have won Michelin stars every year since 2021 .

Place is amazing but is not Michelin. If They say it is Michelin than has to be detailed oriented. Food indeed was detailed oriented, except fich fillet was bit dry. The details killed the vibe, for example, that there were 2 songs going around and around. Forks were not given in front of us ( just throwed in one place). We had to ask to be order. And Michelin restaurants comes with story. Here were no story. Just beautoful pictures and nobody to ask what is what. If it would not be Michelin I would rate 5 stars.

After a less-than-perfect first visit last year, we decided to give Meena Rice a second chance, inspired by Mark Wiens’ YouTube review. While the food has its highlights, our experience left us feeling mixed. The restaurant is located a bit far from central Chiang Mai, so it’s a good idea to arrange transportation both ways to avoid long waits for a driver. On both visits—once during a busy time and this time arriving before 11:00 AM—the service was consistently slow. It seems the staff lacks coordination or clear procedures for managing tables, which can be frustrating. Additionally, most of the staff do not speak English, so it feels like the restaurant caters more to local clientele. That said, the atmosphere is undeniably charming, with a jungle-style setup and an old wooden deck that’s perfect for a relaxed meal. The food itself is decent—flavors are tasty, and the exotic raw veggies add a fun touch. The colorful triangle rice is a unique and cute feature, and their herbal drinks are refreshing. However, availability of dishes can be hit or miss, which might leave you adjusting your expectations. Should we give it a third try? We’re unsure, but it’s worth visiting at least once to enjoy the lovely setting and unique offerings. If they can improve their service, it could become a much more enjoyable experience.

Meena Rice Based Cuisine is an absolute gem in Chiang Mai! From the moment you step in, the serene ambiance and warm hospitality make you feel right at home. The restaurant focuses on rice-based dishes, and every bite is a celebration of authentic Thai flavors with a modern twist. The **Khao Soi** was rich and creamy, with perfectly cooked noodles and a depth of flavor that left me craving more. The **sticky rice with mango** was the perfect dessert—sweet, fresh, and beautifully presented. I also loved their signature rice dishes, which were both hearty and flavorful. What sets Meena apart is their commitment to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. You can taste the quality in every dish. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The restaurant itself is charming, with a cozy, rustic vibe that complements the food perfectly. It’s a great spot for a relaxing meal, whether you’re dining solo or with friends and family. If you’re in Chiang Mai, Meena Rice Based Cuisine is a must-visit. I can’t wait to come back and try more of their delicious offerings!

It was a relatively simple meal but done creatively with local vegetables. Our table was in a private dining area near to the children’s playground but because of the distance and the fact that the buzzer was not working, we had to send out the group members each time we needed service. Foodwise, there were mostly hits. The deep fried wontons were nice but could have used a bit more shrimps, while the fish cakes were great. The pork ribs were also tasty, and the group enjoyed the crab meat soup with rice noodles even if it was a tad spicy. Each of the dishes was accompanied by various herbs and flower petals. The drinks were a little weak though they did use sliced fruits etc. Reservations are recommended.
